Great location! Walkable to shopping, restaurants to Catholic church, National Palace, museums and Metropolitan Cathedral Church. Also close to Elektra store in case you need to exchange money. Close to airport about 25 minutes depending traffic. The staff was very nice, thanks Heidi and Evone.

NO AIR CONDITIONER!! was the down I could not sleep because it was too hot! and nobody in the whole hotel knew about a taxy or any other transportation to go to the bus terminal I have to go outside and catch a street taxy that was very unsafe!!

The hotel is located right in the middle of everything. So expect noise from the street cars and vendors from 7am until midnight. We only stayed one night, so we just dealt with it. Another thing, our toilet didn’t flush. I told the front desk about it around 2 in the morning, but they never came the next day. Also, my grandma was in a wheel chair. No one told us there was a ramp in the back of the hotel thru the garage, so we had to haul her chair and everything up the stairs thru the lobby. We didn’t know about the ramp until the next day when we were leaving already. Very sad that the front desk ladies didn’t bother to tell us, yet we were struggling. Also, they weren’t as friendly. Seemed miserable and not even a smile when we’d speak to them.

I think the staff need to ve trained to offer acuerete informaron un terms of places to visita, maps, directions. I spend half a Day los by fallowing information.
In terms of tours, maps,, places to visit and restaurant they dont have no clue. Is not like other countries that are prepare to receive tourists

I can't say enough about how great the staff here was. They were lovely, kind, and helpful.

However, anyone staying here must be aware of one huge issue. The property is located near a busy pedestrian and auto intersection, and is extremely noisy from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Drivers laying into their horns, motorcycles revving, and street vendors shouting on megaphones all day long. This is not a place for peace and quite. Also the nearby church (Iglesia San Francisco) participates in the Guatemalan tradition of bombas, or fireworks for over three hours as a call to prayer. It was ear-shatteringly and heart-stoppingly cacophonous. I, unfortunately, would never want to stay here again.

HRP is well managed and clean. The staff is always cordial and helpful. The restaurant is good. The bar can get rowdy and too loud, but the rooms are upstairs and mostly very quiet. This is a classic place with staying power. It has an old world charm. I have been coming here for 13 years and I will plan to return regularly. Gracias!

La red de wifi fatal sin funcionalidad, el personal de seguridad y mantenimiento fue mil veces más atento que el de recepción. I Liked the service and staff, the location is Awesome.
I disliked: not all rooms have A/C they charge more if you Want A/C
The beds are not Confortable to my standards, and they move easly,
Guatemala has a thing against A/C everywhere you go (except For a couple of Malls) you won't find a descent Ventilation system that is probably why this Hotel charges extra For A/C ...Yes A/C is a must to me.

The free shuttle service from the airport was comforting, and well welcomed. However, apparently the the driver has Saturday’s off though and we were not made aware of this until the Friday before we left. The rooms were clean, and well maintained.. the location was great for walking. Very safe. A free continental breakfast was a pleasant start to each day. My only complaint was excessive road noise from the non pedestrian side of the hotel as cars honk their horns driving through the intersection.. everyone honks their horn. By the third night I was adjusted to this though and it barely bothered me. I would recommend requesting rooms away from this side of the hotel.

Give this hotel a try

Fine old hotel in the historic centre of the Guatemalan capital. The area has a bad reputation, but I always prefer to stay in the centre. Good restaurant and bar, and lots of alternatives nearby. A worthy rival to the Pan American (just a few blocks away).

Nice hotel in lovely central location. Free continental breakfast not much to speak of (2 pieces of toast and fruit), but restaurant offered other breakfast items for purchase. One sticking point is that the free breakfast is only offered to 2 members of the room. We had to pay for breakfast for the 2 kids even though they were listed on the reservation.

Pretty Nice place.

Really amazing place to stay. We reserved 2 night in a triple room, it was kind of small but it wasnt uncomfortable or tight at all, we all had our space perfectly, and the bathroom was so big that i loved it.
also really cheap for the quality that gives, and the free breackfast was just amazing! Absolutely coming back again :)

This was my fourth time in that hotel but sense last time it has changed alot.
Went to check out at lobby and finding out I was one and half our late for check out .didn't get a call on my phone or nothing.
Than I was charged for half the the price of staying . And they charged their price and not the on line prices. .end up paying twice as much as if I was in a better quality hotel.
The water presur and cold water was bad .
The beds the legs were braking off had to do a little work in fixing .
Not person available to bring luggage to the room..called the hotel the driver had gone home to pick up personal from hotel
Not a very friendly staff at hotel..
Will not recommend to vicit and I will never go there if I can help it.

Colonial style hotel in historic zone - excellent location.
Staff very friendly however the big drawback is that very few (only 3 in the 5 days we stayed there) could speak very basic English. If the hotel wants international visitors, this must be addressed.

Safe hotel in Guatemala city, expensive drinks in downstairs bar and passable food in restaurant.
Initially refused to believe we had pre paid at check in, if you pre pay make sure to print out a receipt before you check in.
Also had trouble using US$ bills with the minutest of 'nicks' and not in perfect as new condition.

Foul smelling restrooms

Do not stay in the 3rd floor. They have a function room there and the party music there will keep you awake the whole night. Add to that the foul smelling restroom in our room. My friend almost got mugged too when he was walking to bus station from this hotel. The location is great though because it's near the main plaza. Lots of things happening on the street infront of it every weekend.

Love this hotel! I stay here every time I go to Guatemala City. Safe, secure, clean, reasonably priced, and conveniently located right in the heart of the Historic District, blocks from the National Palace, right in the middle of the best pedestrian walking area of the city. There are plenty of things to do, see, and eat within walking distance of the hotel. Good Wi-Fi. Walking distance to the Litegua bus terminal, which has buses every hour to all points East, all the way to Puerto Barrios, on the Caribbean Sea.

The hotel was basically OK. I only stayed overnight while waiting for my flight out of Guatemala City. But it isn't in the best part of town. While I did go to the church across the street and walked to the post office, I didn't feel safe. There were plenty of police and armed security guards around, but that's the problem. Why all this firepower? I am a single woman, traveling alone.

It was okay, the only problem was that we had such a hard time getting in touch with the hotel to make sure they will pick us up from the airport, we had to pay a taxi to get to the hotel. WE WERE VERY UPSET ABOUT IT.

Also the AA gave us the seats for my husband and my self to far away from each other.

Decent hotel in zone 1

Stayed at the Hotel Royal Palace for 1 night while touring around zona 1 and 2. There aren't many hotel options in this historic part of Guatemala City. It is conveniently located along 6A Avenida which felt very safe to walk up and down. Only about a 5 minute walk up to the Plaza Constitucional and the Mercado Central. The beds were clean, and the bathroom was decent although the shower doors were moldy. Air conditioner was old but still works. Had some communication problems at the front desk as they don't speak much English, but the free airport shuttle service is a good extra, although if your flight is too early in the morning they likely won't be able to accommodate you. As my flight was really early, they helped call me a taxi, and I didn't have a chance to try their included breakfast buffet, but they were nice enough to pack me a boxed lunch to go.
