This is a self serve hotel in a great location. Amenities such as an ice machine, front desk to speak too, etc. are missing.

I chose the economy room as I was travelling on my own. EV charging was free and available but parking was for a daily fee.

I had frequent contact with the support staff and they often answered within 10 min by text but were not able to resolve all issues. It was game three of the Montreal-Buffalo NHL game and although I should have been able to watch live TV according to their information, we could not get the TV to do so. Only free channels such as Tubi. I spent some time on the phone with the support staff and they were not able to help.

Location is fabulous, windows open so you can cool the room down and in my economy room there was a Danby remote for something that looked like a fan and/or AC but there was no such thing in the room.

Nespresso machine with coffee mate and small fridge in your room, no kettle but microwave in a common area. Bed was comfortable but pillows were not great.

Very, very small room but again, that's what I asked for and if I travel again with my partner, I would choose a larger room so that we could actually sit (only one chair in the room).

Our stay at Hotel Charles-Alexandre was lovely! The location just off the Plains of Abraham park was wonderful for walking into the Old Town. The park, the river and a choice of cafes and restaurants are all in easy reach.
The room itself was clean, spacious and pretty! There is no staff on site so we didn’t meet a single staff member but they were very communicative by text - checking in on us daily.

Loved the character of this hotel. It had an antique feel with old world charm. Since the building was a bit older you do hear foot steps and voices a little bit more but it was what I expected from this type of building and didn’t bother us. We never once saw a staff member but they communicated through text and checked in very often. The contactless check in was very easy and we were really happy with their communication and attentiveness. Everything in our room was plugged into 1 extension cord which wasn’t ideal, if we turned on the lamp the fridge made noises and while making coffee the lights would flicker. But it didn’t cause any issues. The location was great as there were so many restaurants in walking distance and easy to get around. Over all we had a great stay, the value for what we paid was very reasonable and would stay again.

Expect to deal with this hotel via text message and have them not solve your issues and defend themselves by saying that they send you instructions on how to fix things if something fails to function.
They will send instructions but not resolve
The issue if those instructions don’t work.
If you are considering staying during winter times be aware that the entrances are not salted and they are dangerously slippery. My son almost fell because the one of the paths of the entrances was not salted and

There’s no one on site after certain hours, so if someone goes wrong with your room at night time, there’s no one to help.

Room was dirty. There were “dust hares” under the beds which were only downgraded to dust bunnies when I requested a deep clean. Broken light bulb in the bathroom, lack of soap in soap dispenser and tiny bugs everywhere were not addressed despite our requests.

Nous avons vraiment adoré notre séjour à l’hôtel. Notre chambre était parfaite : les lits étaient super confortables et le concept avec lits superposés, c’est idéal quand on voyage avec des enfants.
L’immeuble est vieux, mais justement… j’ai trouvé ça super charmant. J’ai aussi beaucoup aimé qu’il n’y ait pas de réception. Tout se fait en ligne, mais c’est très facile de parler à quelqu’un si on a besoin d’aide.
Le petit stationnement (avec frais) est pratique, et surtout : il y a une borne de recharge pour les véhicules électriques — gros plus pour nous!
Il y a aussi une salle commune où on peut se préparer un petit déjeuner, avec micro-ondes et grille-pain. Très pratique le matin.
Bref, on a adoré notre expérience et on espère vraiment y retourner un jour.

I planned this trip to Montréal to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and was genuinely excited about it. What should have been a nice, meaningful getaway ended up leaving me feeling unsettled, disappointed, and honestly shaken — not just by the stay itself, but by what happened afterward.

From the very beginning, things felt wrong. We had trouble even getting into the building because the electronic key system was confusing and unreliable, which left us standing outside in the cold trying to figure out how to enter. When we finally got inside, I was startled to see that the main entrance door had been broken and replaced with a sheet of plywood. This wasn’t some back entrance or temporary interior repair — it was the front door. Seeing that immediately made me feel unsafe.

Inside the building, there was a strong chemical smell that gave both of us headaches and made it hard to relax. It lingered and added to the overall feeling that something wasn’t right.

The room itself had basic issues that shouldn’t happen anywhere presenting itself as a hotel. There was no soap in the bathroom, the TV didn’t work, and the stairs were extremely narrow and steep, with no elevator, which was not clearly disclosed when booking. There was also no front desk or staff on site, which made the entire experience feel unattended and isolating.

What upset me most was that this was supposed to be a birthday trip — something special — and instead it felt stressful and disappointing.

I stayed here alone for one night and overall had a great experience. The hotel is very well located, extremely clean, and the rooms are spacious, cozy, and comfortable. I really appreciated the smart TV, mini fridge, and coffee setup in the room. There’s also a shared kitchen downstairs in the lobby, which is a big plus.

One thing to note: the walls are very thin, and you can hear quite a lot from neighboring rooms.

Other than that, I really loved my stay and would definitely recommend it, especially for a solo stay or short visit.

La chambre n'avait pas été faites lors de notre arrivé à 17h15 le 31 décembre. Une chance que nous sommes passé avant notre soirée. Puisque personne n'est sur place, nous avons dû téléphoner et attendre pour se faire donner une mauvaise excuse... seulement un petit ménage avait été fait puisque les personnes gardait la chambre pour une autre nuit... C'est n'importe quoi, aucun lit de fait, plein de café dans le lavabo... Aucune personne du Management n'a téléphoné pour s'excuser ou offrir une compensation. C'est inacceptable quand la base d'un hôtel est d'avoir des chambres propres pour de nouveau client. De plus, nous chambre avait besoin de beaucoup d'amour en comparaison aux autres chambres de l'hotel.

I prepaid for an EV parking spot because I needed to charge my car. However, when I arrived in the evening, my designated spot was occupied by another vehicle. I called customer service several times before finally getting through. They said they would ask the manager to coordinate, but the car was never moved.

I then tried to park in another EV spot, but that charging station was broken, which left me unable to charge at all. It wasn’t until 10:30 the next morning that the Volvo—an ICE car that didn’t even need charging—finally moved. Fortunately, I still had enough range to drive a few kilometers to charge elsewhere; otherwise, it would have been a very scary situation.

In the room, there were two heaters, and one of them was broken and not working. The bathroom has a glass window with only a sheer white curtain. It felt very unsafe when showering, as it was clearly visible from outside. Overall, the experience was very poor.

Les places de stationnement ne sont pas indiquées derrière l'hôtel donc on ne sait pas trop si on est stationné chez le voisin... (peut-être était-ce au sol mais en hiver on ne voit rien). La télé ne fonctionnait pas. Il manquait une porte de douche... (eh oui!!). Des serviettes blanches avaient des grandes traces de vert.., et on voyait que c'était usé... pas mal usé... L'endroit est bien situé, mais l'hôtel manque définitivement d'amour.

The room was clean and pretty. NIce view to the street! Parking was confusing but worked out fine. Maps of the local areas of interest would have been nice. We had no idea how close many nice restaurants were without have to hike up the hill toward the Old City. The only slight complaint was the room was very warm, hot at night and being on the street opening the window was a little loud. Other than that it was very good value for the cost :)

I booked this hotel because they have an electric vehicle charger. I called them to verify before booking. When I arrived and paid the parking fee, the chargers were not working. No one is on site so I called them using their front desk phone. They said they’d send someone to come look at it. They never did. I called back a few hours later and they said it wouldn’t be fixed until tomorrow.

I paid extra to stay here vs other places because of the car charger. Very disappointing as I had to leave early to charge my car on the way back to the airport.

Check-in: I never received any check-in instructions until 2 hours from 4pm of the day of arrival. This was really concerning me because the notes associated with this hotel's page indicated that the check-in instructions would be sent up to 48 hours ahead of check-in. The access code was easy to use, but the sheer lack of communication leading up to receiving the access code was so frustrating, that I found myself messaging them via the hotels.com website as well as their own website's \"contact us\" page.

Room itself: We were given a room on the second floor (the top floor of the building) and the room door was right in front of the staircase. The room door was associated with some access code device, but the latch was a bit loose, which ended up with an incident where some random person barged into the room (with no explanation of why they even barged in..). This gave me some concern for my security. Everything else seemed clean and organised UNTIL I saw a spider crawl across the ceiling and a centipede-looking bug crawl across the floor. I in fact woke up the next day to a spider in my shoe. There was also a ball of dust next to the radiator.

Washroom: Clean enough but the sink was installed literally four feet away from the bed. The floor of the shower was clean, but the installation to cover the water (shower \"doors\" I guess) were not the cleanest.

Other: Hair dryer's back (the metal mesh) was literally scotch-taped to the dryer. Fire hazard. Be careful.

We had a nice stay at Hotel Charles-Alexandre. However, it would have been improved if there had been a concierge staff at the front desk. We had a few issues that could have been quickly resolved had there been someone to talk with, and someone to advise us as to local restaurants, shops, sights. The location was good, and the bed comfortable. No dresser in the room, just a small closet with no hangers, and no fresh coffee in the lobby. We had a dehumidifier/AC unit in the room that leaked on the floor and a window we couldn't close. Staff checked in daily via text, but someone at the front desk would have been very helpful.

The location was ideal for our sightseeing. The atmosphere was very nice and our room was good. The beds were comfortable. There wasn't any staff around at any time and that was a bit problematic when something was needed. For instance, we ran out of tissues and there wasn't anyone around to ask for more. Another example is not knowing how to use the HVAC system in the room and there weren't any directions as far as I know. I think it is strange to not have anyone to act as \"host\" for the property.

I felt unsafe during my stay. A window to my room accessible via the fire escape was secured with only an old-fashioned latch and no proper lock. When I raised this with staff my concerns were dismissed with excuses and contradictory and misleading explanations. A receptionist even laughed at me when I called. No secure alternative, temporary fix, or refund was offered. As a woman, having my personal safety concerns mocked and brushed aside was unacceptable. I think it’s a pretty basic expectation to have proper locks on all entryways to a hotel room. To date, management has not contacted me even though I was advised someone would follow up.

Nice small hotel, ideally located to walk everywhere in old Québec City. The room set up was perfect as we travelled with our dog, though a little small and missing desk to store our cloths. I don't know prices in the area but it seemed like a very very good deal. Nice place, wonderfully located near very good restaurants, large parks, the riverfront, and a scenic 20 mimute walk to the old city. Lack of on-site staff was balanced by quick and helpful responses if you telephoned the remote concierge. Slightly dirty under the beds (not a big deal) but otherwise very clean and a nice vibe.

The A/C was not working at all. We called the front desk few times, but unfortunately nothing. We asked for a fan as sleeping with the windows open was not possible as it was too noisy, but never got the fan. A bit disappointed..

Parking was an issue as it was during the summer festival in Quebec. At $25 for reserved parking spot that was occupied, and ended up in another spot and got boxed in (likely by festival attendee). Just ok.

It was an unexpected and a terrible experience on my arrival with my family of four at the property in the evening. The room was not ready and there was no housekeeping done. I reported this to the helpdesk agents. They suggested some other accommodation in the vicinity as it was last minute and they could not find an alternative for us.

If the agents gave up, you can imagine what we had to go through calling and checking when our mobile phones were almost discharged after driving for 10 hours from Toronto.

It was terrible - new city, new language, no contacts and left stranded in spite of booking three weeks prior and receiving confirmation emails, uptil the day of arrival, from the Hotel.

I had to book an alternative hotel, on my own, at double the rate.

Hope, nobody has to go through this ordeal.

It has been one week since I emailed the property team and I have yet to hear back from them.

Perfect location! Home away from home...

It was a perfect location for us! The property felt like an old school boarding house with laundry, a kitchen area (microwave & toaster oven), cozy entryway, and the ice and filtered water machines were fantastic! The onsite parking was tight (spots 9 and 10) so I'd ask not to be assigned there; and we couldn't figure out how to turn the a/c up higher so the room was a bit stuffy (pretty humid weather when we were there) but not unbearable. The staff were SUPER nice and helpful so A+ on customer service. We would definitely stay here again and look forward to returning.

Great Location. Not having a staff member onsite is interesting as is the all-electronic access. The staff was most responsive though remote. We are in our 70’s and in good shape but dragging luggage and ourselves up 33 stairs to our room was a burden. At least a disclosure that there is no elevator would be good.
