The place is not clean at all full of bugs.The room wasn’t clean from the previous people and the bed sheet had hair and dirty spots, bugs, and ants everywhere.the hotel has no AC not like they advertised. They promised for refund and they denied it. It’s really bad experience. I don’t recommend it for anyone at all.

We chose this location because we wanted to avoid the overpriced hotels & the insanely crowded Venice. The 6L bus stops in front of the hotel every 20 minutes and ends in Venice. Staff was helpful & friendly. Room wasn’t fancy but quiet and pretty clean. We paid a little more for a bathroom in the room. AC worked great and the shower ran plenty of hot water

Small property, with decent size rooms. Hotel is safe and secure and easy route to local transport.
Someone was always on hand to help if needed.
20minute walk to train station where could go into the centre of Venice or venture further a field. Room was well presented and cleaned to an expected standard. Would recommend hotel if on a budget.

Never again... most Terrible hotel experience

First of all, specific conditions like limited time reception and check-in as well as absence of an elevator should be bold and clearly displayed. In this case the condition of checking in before 10 pm was discovered after the booking. Hence while driving on the highway we searched for the hotel number and called to ask for a late check in. They said it would cost we extra 29 euros. So I sent a local friend my passport copies to check us in. He got the keys and gave these to us at a restaurant before we reached the hotel. Still, when we reached the place it was locked and we had to call the reception again. in response Me Omer came from inside and opened the lock. He demanded the extra payment without which he would not allow us in. As was true I told him that check in was before 10 pm and gifts can always go out for food or something else after checking-in. Due to the extra 29 euros the price became much higher then a better quality place. Most of all it was his terrible attitude that was due to not only his nature but also due to his dislike for people of my country. Then at the age of 65 I had to carry all the luggage up two floors. In the morning also the same person had such a terrible expression on his face and that seemed to say \"the devil May care for all I'm concerned.\" It was the most terrible hotel experience of my life. Any self-respecting person should stay away from this hotel. After that I am more aware for the future. No more cheap hotels.

The staff are the sweetest!! Everyone so far has been so helpful and very good English!! The hotel is in the middle of block with lots of parking on the street. We stayed here and got on the 6L bus to Venus for the day. It was so easy and cheap to do. If they put in breakfast in the morning they could charge double!! Overall best affordable place we have stayed .

The service was amazing! We showed up half an hour after they were closed (we had no idea hotels closed) and thankfully the front desk person was still there to let us in! The room was nice, but the beds were very firm and uncomfortable.

The couple who owns the hotel was very nice and helpful. I liked the amenities that came with our room and it was great that we could buy bus tickets at face value from the hotel owners. The bus stop to take the bus to Venice was about a 2-3 minute walk and altogether about a half hour ride to the touristy area from the hotel!

Affordable base to explore Venice

This is a clean basic hotel not in Mestre city center. There is a convenient bus to Venice that stops near the hotel every 20 minutes, and takes 20 minutes to near Venice train station. We bought bus tickets at the hotel, which was extremely convenient (as tickets are not sold on the bus). Street parking is available and there is a good pizza restaurant nearby.

Locked out of my room. No night service. Manager comes At 7 am . We get to airport to late and miss flight. Have to pay extra $1500 per person for new 1 way ticket. If hotel had night service we could have made our original flight in time and I could save $4000.00 Worst Hotel in the worst city in Italy.

Basic hotel with misleading photos

Photo of exterior is a bit misleading as shop was never open. Very basic, good If you just need somewhere to sleep. I knew it wasn’t going to live up to expectations so wasn’t expecting much. The owners were pleasant. It’s about 40eros via taxi to Venice or you can get a bus which seems to be very cramped and hot. Vending machines available. Not got much to say on this hotel just it’s very basic, sometimes had hot water for shower but mostly the water was freezing cold. Think I got bit more in the hotel than outside and air conditioner in my room was awful but was good in the other room we booked. I booked 2 rooms with no balcony though there were rooms with them , felt like we were just given the basic rooms. A bit disappointing.

we never stayed in the place, I selected that place because I saw look nice, we came to europe for vacation, specially Venice, I rented a car, unfortunately I have a problem with that car, flat tire in the expressway, more of four hour until get fixed, in the meantime we called from my usa cell, used a international call, we called to the hotel to let them know, we'll be there late, around 7 pm, there never, NEVER answer the phone, well, we thought the hotel is already paid, after the car tire has been fixed, we continue drove to there, we arrived around 1am in the morning, everything was closed, NO BODY was shows up, I knock the door for more half hour, no body, until someone shows up by the window, so very nasty guy, I explained what happened to us, the do not even understand english, not even italian, I do not what can languaje he was, look like he was upset because I knock his door to many times, was unbelievable all that happened to us, I called from Italy to hotel.com on USA, try to help me, but these people do not how to resolve this kind of situations.
I have to find another hotel 2 o 3 in the morning, spend more money for that, I was tire, angry, disappointed, finally found it some place to stayed, next day because my wife told me to do it, we went back to the place, diferent people was in the counter, they apologized for that, we tried get our money back, we paid for two nights, all went to garbage, I don't get nothing back, hotels.com not help us about that, to bad

A charming little family hotel

If you're looking for an affordable hotel close to Venice, this is what you're looking for. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We parked our car in the backyard of the hotel and there was free parking on the street. There's no breakfast but there's a supermarket 10 minutes from the hotel. The owners are very friendly even though they speak only a bit of English.

Nice hotel with minimum amenities. Bit farther away from he main Mestre station so you either walk 35 minutes through dark neighbourhoods, or try to figure out the bus system and pay twice the normal price to buy a ticket onboard a bus. Not their fault, but the long walk away from Mestre wasn't convenient. Staff were very friendly and polite although they barely spoke English so it was hard to get information and figure things out. They did try hard and were very very nice and helpful as much as they could be with the language barrier. He older gentleman in the lobby (I'm assuming the father of the manager?) was very nice and sweet, spoke not a single word of English but opened doors for us and was very kind. The shower water heater was slow so the temperature fluctuated a lot. Easier to just have a cold shower.

Remembering that Venice is pretty expensive, this is good for the price. The hotel staff was as helpful as they could be given their limited English skills, and the guy at the front desk carried our luggage up the stairs because there was no elevator. The hotel facilities seem to be a bit old - the shower door often got stuck, and we were without hot water for a day because of a glitch with their heater. But again, the staff was helpful as soon as we were able to communicate the problem to them. The double bed in the room was two twin beds pushed together, which meant there was a valley in the middle of the \"double bed\", and any time we rolled into the valley the two beds pushed farther apart.

Hotel closed on arrival - no room for the night.

The stay was completely spoiled before we even arrived. Our flight into Venice was delayed so we informed the hotel that we'd be arriving late and gave them the time that we would get there. We turn up at 12.30 to find the hotel locked up with no one there. We tried calling but no one answered even though we could hear the phone ringing from outside.
We were forced to look for somewhere else to sleep at 1am in a country we've never been to before and pay for a night in another hotel.

We finally got into the hotel the following day, the room was ok but the cleaners start hoovering all of the rooms and hall everyday around 9.30. This goes on until around 11.

We contacted hotels.com after our visit to discuss the possibility of a refund for the night that we couldn't stay in the hotel, the hotel insisted that they stayed up until 2am waiting for us but we didn't arrive. When I presented evidence that we'd arrived at 12.30 the hotel didn't respond to queries. It's been two months and we still haven't heard back from them.

Wonderful family run hotel.

This hotel exceeded our expectations. Beautiful neighborhood, lots of trees. Hotel has shiny beautiful marble floors, squeaky clean. Owner carried luggage to room. A good place to see Venice for a few days. Transportation
is very close to hotel, maybe 100 yds. Takes about 20 minutes to get to downtown Venice. Buses very reliable.
We took cab from cruise terminal, straight to hotel. Thank goodness we stayed in Mestre, later during stay we witnessed hundreds of travelors dragging suitcases thru the sidewalks of Venice (no easy task). AND we didn't
have to put up with noise or crime. Mestre very nice town. We got to know the real Italians here, there are two sidewalk cafes near, and a Pharmacy, and a neighborhood Grocery for snacks. In Venice City food is outrageously priced. So are hotel rooms. Mestry is a great alternative, quiet at night, no pickpockets, etc. Only recommentation: Need morning Coffee/Tea for westerners. We had to go to coffee bar, 5 min walk, to get our morning coffee. I would definately stay here again. Saved $1000 U.S. very little inconvenience.

The hotel is located 20 min. away with bus to Venice. The hotel staff was the best ever. Very polite, friendly and always kindly responding to any questions. The room was suitable. The bed was comfortable. It was very clean. They cleaned the room every day. The furniture inside is not modern, but its well kept. The neighborhood is peaceful, although there are many migrants around. I highly recommend it for people that like to rest well during their visit to Venice.

Hosts were very friendly and helpful. They for instance allowed for a somewhat later check in and provided a map and tickets into Venice on a daily basis. They spoke little English but we managed just fine. There was an excellent Italian restaurant right around the corner called \"Ghi Ghi\". Rooms were very clean although cleaning (and hoovering) began early in the morning and the building was somewhat noisy. Light sleepers may want to bring ear plugs.

It is a low key hotel in a residential area, low cost, clean rooms, friendly staff and close to transportation that gives you a 15-20 minute ride into Venice. Stayed here while travelling across Italy. 20minute walk from the main trainstation. The neighbourhood did feel abit like a maze once you find yourself it's fine. The staff are lovely friendly people, very helpful. The hotel could do with abit of an update but has everything you need. All in all I was happy with my stay.

Unclean room with fleas...AVOID

The room had fleas (I guess from their old carpet) and we felt extremely itchy after spending a night here. The bedsheet was also extremely slim and the bed cover was dirty. When we checked in they said the room was not ready yet, they asked us to leave our luggages at their restaurant which was completely visible and we felt unsafe. And people with disability BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL NOT TO CHOOSE THIS HOTEL! It does not have elevator and we were traveling with 2 luggages. The man at the front desk saw that my friend had a broken leg and still refused to help with our luggages. He just gave us a disdain look and a solid no. I understand this was not his obligation but his indifference and coldness took us by surprise. The only credit goes to their cleaning lady who quickly came to us the next day when she saw us struggling with the luggages. Poor hotel. Will never cone back again.

Easy commute to Venice

Hotel was clean and easy to connect to Venice. The owners had daily tickets to Venice for public transportation available at the desk. Only $2.50 per day which was a steal. The bus stop is just 3 minutes walk. We had a rented vehicle which the owner let us park behind the gated driveway which was nice since parking is always an issue in big cities. So we never used our vehicle while staying at the hotel. We spent 3 nights there. We loved it.

The only bad thing that above our room there seemed to be an apartment or something that the people above us were a little noisy, but we got a great deal and if you not to picky this is a good place for the money. The room was small, but cozy. Private shower and bath. It is not your typical American Holiday Inn, but we would stay there again.

Warm & Friendly Hotel - Very welcoming!!

Hotel reception was friendly and warm, no issues in communication. Location was few stops away from Mestre Railway Station and about 15-20 mins to Venice via tram and bus. Return Tickets could be purchased directly from the hotel reception which is very convenient. The hotel surroundings are quiet and very local experience. For the price paid, it is worth the stay and highly recommended for budget travellers and those who like to experience the local Italian way of living. Of all the places stayed while travelling throughout Italy, Hotel Amba Alagi gave the best hospitality service and experience!!

My sister and I stayed here for 2 nights.Clean and comfortable. The owner was friendly and accommodating although he does not speak English. He even showed us the bus stop to go to Venice. We recommend this place for a reasonable price and we feel safe.It was 25 mins by bus to Venice,not bad at all and we purchased the fare at the hotel. There's a nice restaurant at the corner too.

it was a very good stay for the price. The transportation to the city centre is very easy. The hotel provide the round trip tickets for 2.60 € whic includes tram and bus. The tram station is 2 minutes walk and easy to find. The staff is very helpful and friendly. You can also park your car in the garden. There is enough space for two cars but we were the only family with the car during iur stay.

A gem of a place to stay

Lovely family, very helpful. Extremely clean and well cared for room and ensuite. Family explained how to get about; from Mestre Bus Station, take tram T1 going to Panorama, get off at 5th stop - 'Beccaria' - then stay on same side of street and walk in the direction of the tram, and you'll find the Hotel off the main road on your left (a walk of 70/80 meters). Getting to the heart of Venice Island is simple, takes about 20/25mins and costs €1.30 (tickets can be obtained from Hotel). Great little Restaurant 'Gigi' and two good Cafes (for breakfast) back on the main road less than 100 metres away from Hotel. If staying for more than a couple of days, get the 72hour Water Bus - Vapotetto - pass (currently €40) as this also covers all public transport. If you do only one full day 'island hopping', you will recover the cost on that day alone. One point to watch out for - if you aim to get back to the Hotel after 9.20pm, then you will have to get off Bus 6 (or 6L) at the 'San Antonio' stop and walk all of 8 or 10 mins along the main road to the Hotel (it's safe and well lit) as the connecting T1 Tram stops after 9.20.
We definitely aim to be back to Venice, it's such a unique City, and we would definitely be staying at Hotel Amba Alagi, a real 'gem' of a place to stay in a nice location and so convenient for all the Venice sightseeing you could want to do!

Transportation was good, bus and tram just round the corner from hotel. 25 minute bus journey into Venice centre. Bus tickets issued at the hotel, 7euros per person for a return journey. Only a coffee machine available in hotel, but good coffee. We purchased pastries from a nearby bakery for breakfast the next day. Venice was wonderful and would love to go back. Negative: room needed some work. Ceiling fan swung wildly out of balance at speeds higher than low. Air conditioning did not work...luckily the temperature cooled at night.

Great value overall and safe.

Great stay and friendly service

Though we booked the room with air conditioning but was told that the system had shut down because of winter. No big issue though because the room was chilly at night...staff were super friendly! Love the stay! There's a direct tram from the Venizia-Mestre station. Very convenient as there's direct tram and bus to Venice island. Alot cheaper to stay outside Venice island yet within proximity.

Real italian neighourhood, no tourists,what more!!

I loved this hotel and the staff , the owner, his son and daugther in law were very kind. The fact that they spoke poor english made our stay more enjoyable, you felt like you were in a real italian neighbourhood. If you stay here, MAKE sure you visit the cafe nearby and meet Cicco - trust me on this, he makes the best capacchino ever that my wife enjoyed every bit of, i obviously stole a few sips. Also, the hotel is very near the bus stop . By the way from the airport you take bus number 15 to mestre , when you get there switch to the tram and i believe its 5 or 6 exists after, ask those around you , they were helpful with us.

I should have done my home work, this was not a bed and breakfast or boutique hotel it was rooms for rent both long term and short term. the lobby was clean but smelled of body odor. When we asked to the Wi-Fi code we were given a slip with the user name and code but later found out that it was only valid for a single device and when I asked for another one for my wifes phone and one for my lap top I was told only two per room. When we went to the room is was old and the room smelled bad. This was a big enough disappointment and since it was our last four days in Venice we actually moved to another hotel.

Good hotel about 20 min bus ride from Venice . Rooms were nicely remodeled in an older building. Owner was very nice. He doesn't speak english but he has friend to help translate if necessary.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, when leaving the y even walked us to the bus stop. The location was not a great one for visiting Venice though. A little far to the main bus stop through a not so great neighbourhood .

easy bus to Venice, but someone got bedbugs

Very nice hotel manager who gave us great information, including the ability to get straight to Venice on a bus stop 50m away. The surrounding neighborhood is quiet, and it's also next to a tram stop to get to Mestre Train Station. However, one of my friends got bedbugs, which obviously colors this whole review.

Great hotel, ok location

Staff super friendly (no English, but can still communicate), rooms nice with soft pillows, spacious, very clean, bathroom good, coffee machine convenient, bus tickets available from hotel, bus stop close, train station not too far, restaurant four blocks away. Hotel in neighborhood so quiet without a lot going on. Easy to get to Venice. Overall, great hotel and good option if you don't want to pay the prices of Venice.

Nice hotel outside of central Venice

Pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The hotel staff were excellent and even escorted you to the bus stop for Venice. Hotel was basic but clean. We had a double room with a shower as I know that some rooms don't have WC & shower facilities. (Something to watch out for when booking). The area, Mestre was quiet but we felt safe. In fact of our tour of Italy, we had the best pizza in a restaurant 15 minutes walk away. We took the number 15 bus heading for Padova outside Mestre train station to the hotel rather than walk. It was really easy, just make sure you look at the hotels website for directions. The stop (Baccaureia) is where you'll get off and literally the hotel is 50 metres away. If you're not bothered about staying in Venice, then would definitely recommend.

Fine hotel.

The hotel was fine and the manager was very nice and helpful and we managed to communicate well - he really tried to understand my poor Italian. The only thing I was disappointed with was the location and really it was my fault for not being more careful. It is 40 minutes from the airport, close to the train station and 15 minutes from Venice. It was hard to get anything reasonable to eat.

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. They gave us bus tickets (we had to pay for it ofcourse) to go to venice. The bus stop for the bus to Venice is just a few yards away from the hotel. The rooms very clean and tidy. The beds were good. The only thing is that they have to single beds joined to make a double, which can be a bit of an annoyance. The hotel does not do breakfast, but there is a cafe and a restaurant just outside the hotel. I will stay here again just for the good people they are.

Great family run hotel... Would recommend

This place was great! The staff is great, however, they do not speak the best English. The rooms are clean and the housekeepers are fabulous. It is a 15-20 min bus ride to Venice and the buses are often crowded.

Nice neighbourhood but hard to find

The hotel itself is hard to find because there are several turns to reach it. However, the rooms are quite spacious and reasonably clean. There is a direct bus to Venice itself nearby so it is a cheap alternative to staying on the islands themselves.

Great priced hotel just outside of Venice

You will save lots of money by staying outside of Venice, the prices in Venice are becoming pretty silly. This place, Marghera, is only a 15 minute bus ride from the bus station in Venice, Piazzale Roma. Last bus is @9:20pm, so no rush to get back. The staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly, will answer all your questions and sell you a return bus ticket (as you cannot buy on the bus). It is a basic hotel, some rooms with showers, some without but good sized shower room to share on each floor. There is one coffee machine to get a fix before bed or first thing in the morning, 55 cents, good tasting cappuccino! There is a very good restaurant just round the corner, we ate there our 3 nights in Venice, not only cheaper than Venice but tasty food and friendly staff. Great desserts!

Great place to stay

Staff at this hotel were amazing. They were very friendly and we were sad to leave, they could not do enough for us. The rooms were clean, beds comfortable and extra bathrooms available if your travelling in a group. Would recommend this place to everyone and would go back.

Nice hotel with some issues

In its own category the room was quite okay, it was very clean, although the painting on the ceiling of the bathroom was really not in a good shape. However the car parking is a bad joke. We chose this hotel because it was written there is a private parking for it. When we arrived we asked for the receptionist (fortunately my wife speaks a bit of Italian because most of the staff do not speak any languages but Italian) and he showed us a tiny parking behind the hotel where there were places for two cars, but in a row, so if someone wants to leave with the first car, you have to move away with the second. We asked if it is okay if we park on the second place for the night or not. It was okay. The receptionist woke us up 5:45 AM to move away with the car...

Great value hotel. Very clean and family friendly.

The managers were so nice and helpful beyond expectations. The hotel is one block away from the bus stop and they have bus passes available for purchasing.
I highly recommend this hotel excellence value for the money.
