Had an interesting experience in the hotel restaurant. My soup was forgotten, but still appeared on the bill. After dessert, I pointed this out. They brought the soup instead of removing from bill. Have never had to eat soup after dessert before. Know there was a language barrier but service at the restaurant for dinner had many mistakes, not just at our table. Have never experienced this in any restaurant ever in being served soup after dessert and having to eat it. Dinner food was also the most mediocre food I had in my whole Bavaria trip. However breakfast was good! The food at breakfast was delicious and tasty. The room we stayed in was big, but a bit old and could do with an update. The bed was comfortable. The air quality in room was poor but fixed by opening the windows for a bit. The bathroom was big and lovely with a huge bath and hot water. Not a perfect stay but Ok. Just some things to improve on next time.

Large hotel, we got spacious rooms. The hotel is a bit old but beautiful. Big free parking available. Breakfast is a standard European style. Room cleanliness is decent, and towels are replaced properly. The bar in the lobby is very small and I didn’t really like it. In one of the rooms, there was a clogged shower that caused flooding, and it was only fixed the next day, which was quite unpleasant.

A Special Place

We totally lucked in with finding the Klosterhotel. The hotel is traditional and beautiful in every way, and very reasonably priced for the location. The restaurant and breakfast were excellent. The kloster complex across the street was a special treat. Our only regret was that we didn’t book for a longer stay.

Delightful charming hotel with very sweet staff. We had a room for three people and it was very spacious and had all the amenities. Nice robe and bath towel for the pool and spa. The hotel is in fantastic condition so I’m wondering if it was nearly updated. The breakfast in the morning was very good and included. The grounds are wonderful and it’s close to nice little shops.

We stayed two nights during our honeymoon. The hotel/room/town were all adorable. Our suite was spacious and clean. There’s a bus stop in front of and across the street from the hotel. Ettal Abbey is also across from the hotel. The front desk has a visitor card for guests to use for free local bus travel (after 5 euro deposit/per person). We used it to travel to the Schloss Linderhof and Oberammergau. We used the pool, saunas and massage amenities. Absolutely loved our stay and wish we stayed longer.

This hotel is located in a very beautiful place, it has nice backyard and swimming pool/sauna!
Breakfast is good, especially their tea selection. Hospitality is ok, but noone is going above and beyond to assist you. Two main things that really bother! First is that they don’t have 24 hours reception - receptionist leaves at 10 pm and there is no one who can help you with anything after that time. Even at check out we got in little trouble: we were leaving at 7:30 am (which is not too early) and heading straight to airport (so we did not have any extra (free) time to wait) - there were no receptionist at reception at that moment… ;(
And second - they have Nothing to drink! There is no tea/coffee station in the lobby, no even water. On the top of that there are no kettle or coffee maker in the room. It was very unpleasant because my kids got thirsty before bedtime when all stores/restaurants were already closed, and even hotel reception was closed as well. When I complained about that on the next day they told me that “oh, you can come to reception anytime (anytime is already not true) and we will make you a tea”. Ok, we tried that one time and they changed us 8Euro for that ;0
Overall it is a good hotel with spacious and clean rooms, it just needs some adjustments.

When we arrived there was no one at the front desk, then the lady that showed up said she is not trained to check people. It took a while before we were checked in. The room was not what we had paid for but we figured it is just for one night. After going to the pool wanted to take a shower, cold water was not working. So we had to change room. She gave us two card to go down to the bar, had a beer and Jin tonic she said that was more than what the coupons were good for so the rest will be charged to our room. The first room was in horrible shape the second one is a little better. It is a big hotel with maybe ten rooms occupied. Just do yourself a favor, go somewhere else.

The hotel was convenient but I did not get the room requested. I booked a suite and the hotel put us in a handicap suite. I asked for an alternate option but all they had was a view of a crane. The hotel finally put us in a downgraded comfort room with was 30 Euros cheaper but refused to reduce the rate because I booked they Expedia so we paid for the suite and stayed in a regular room.

This hotel is at an excellent location if you’re interested in the Benedictine Kloster, which is literally right across the street. It o retty much commands the high ground in this pretty village’s square, flanked by its restaurants. King Ludwig’s castle, Linderhof, is situated about 10 km outside the village The facility is more on the historical then the modern side, but it doesn’t show any sign of neglect. In fact there is a “classy” feel to the place. It gives every indication of looking very well cared for in the interest of maintaining its four star rating. It seems to be well-built, judging by the lack of noise from adjoining rooms or hallways. The building has an elevator, and the Wi-Fi is strong and reliable. The room was quite small, even by European standards. Ours, featuring a double bed, measured roughly 19 x 15 (with the bathroom taking up 6 x 7 of that total square footage). Not much space remains for two people sharing the room to maneuver about without being in each other’s way. It’s not a deal breaker, though, since one is not intending to spend that much time in the room anyhow. The meals there were excellent. We had both a dinner and a breakfast. The dinner offered a generous portion platter at a reasonable price. Breakfast offered an excellent array of choices, served in a historical looking room, large enough for a wedding reception. You get a fair return on your Investment here. Would we stay here again? Absolutely!

Beautifully located next to the Ettal Monastery. Breakfast is simply gorgeous, have rarely seen such a broad range of top quality offerings on a buffet. Rooms are very clean and decently sized, windows can be fully opened to let in some fesh mountain air over night. Very friendly staff and decent sized free parking behind the hotel. Overall excellent value for money and highly recommended for travellers looking to stay in Ettal or Oberammergau.

We only stayed overnight, on our way to Munich. Ettal is dominated by the stunning monastery with amazing basilia but is otherwise a small village of a few shops and houses in s valley in the Bavarian alps. We had great views of the mountains from our room. Tidy rooms, great breakfast included, free parking. The hotel restaurant has a great selection of Bavarian food.
The hotel has a spa and swimming pool but we did not try these.
Two problems:Wi-Fi in our room was not great, maybe because we were last room at end of corridor
Beds were made of pine, quite noisy
But overall a very nice hotel

Very nice, but falls short

This is a very nice hotel, but it falls short in the areas of basic hotel security and amenities. There was no security chain on the door, allowing housekeeping to walk in at will. There was also no mini bar and no coffee maker in the room. In addition, there is no guest laundry in the hotel. Each of these items is to be expected of such a nice hotel that caters to the traveling public.

Charming hotel, but....

The hotel has lots of charm and we enjoyed the pool and sauna. The included breakfast was excellent. Since there were very few other places to eat, we ate both nights at the hotel; the food was very good.
The only problem we encountered was that our room had no hot water the first day. We reported it to the desk clerk who spoke very little English. Since we do not speak German, he made it clear using gestures that we could shower at the swimming pool and he would call someone. We had hot water the following afternoon, but none in the evening. The hot water came on again the following morning. We were one of three rooms booked together, and only ours had a problem, so it was not a pervasive problem.

Request an interior room if you are bothered by traffic noise or church bells, since windows must be open because there is no AC. By the way, the Kloister church is beautiful and the Kloister-made beer is very good.

During my two week trip in Europe (in approximately 12 hotels) the Klosterhotel Ludwig der Bayer provided, by far, the best and most extensive breakfast. It was fantastic. This hotel was also the only one to have a pool. The room was nice although I could have used a fan since it was July (maybe they had one available - I just didn't think to ask). Friendly and very helpful staff.

We absolutely loved our stay at this hotel. We stayed in four different hotels during our trip in germany and this was by far the best hotel! We had a cute appartment with a fully equipped kitchen, a large living room and dining room and of course modern bathroom and bedroom with lots of storage. The hotelis quiet, we never heard our neighbours. And we had a big balcony with a table, chairs and a rack to dry our laundry. The room was extremely clean and the staff came each day to clean up the room while we were out visiting. The hotel is locates in a cute town, only a few minute drive from garmisch. There are a ton of activities to do nearby! We also had a beautiful view over the mountains from the balcony. There is a beautiful pool with a sauna and outside, they have a park where the kids can play and they have an area where we can relax. We had the best food of our trip at this hotel! The breakfasts are AMAZING!
We were always looking forward to go for breakfast in the am. I strongly recommend that you take a room that includes the breakfast, it is worth it. And we had dinner 3 times at their restaurant and the food was amazing each time! Try the pork medallion with the mushroom cream sauce and homemade pasta! Or the lamb stew! Delicious and by far the best meals we had on this trip!
We will definitelt go back to this hotel when we return to Germany! Great staff as well!

Beautiful view; awesome breakfast buffet. Mattress in single bed a bit hard. Soap in shower dispenser was almost empty. Carpet in room needs to be shampooed for stains or replaced. Ditch the sofa off the suite of rooms near room 226-- it must be 50 years old. Very reasonable rates. Do not leave the hotel without taking care of personal needs--village WC near monastery costs 50 cents to use; there is a fee for town parking too.

Lovely Hotel

Really enjoyed our stay. The hotel reception was very good and although we were well ahead of the official checkin time gave us a room straight away. Very welcome for a couple of weary travellers. The area around the village of Ettal is very scenic and interesting with the large \" Kloster\" across the road and several of King Ludwig's castles including Neuschwanstein and villa Linderhof within an easy drive.
We found the food in the restaurant very good and the buffet breakfast had excellent choices to get the day off to a good start. We would definitely stay here again.

En de toplocatie in een supermooie omgeving, vlak achter hotel starten wandel en langlauf pistes. Slechts 30 min van ski of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Maakt deel uit van groot klooster met rondleidingen in brouwerij en likeurstokerij.

Zimmer wurde leider nicht richtig gereinigt. Sauna und Pool leider viel zu klein für die Menge der Gäste, erholen konnten wir uns hier nicht. Haben bei einem 4 Sterne Hotel mehr erwartet. Dame an der Rezeption war leider beim Emfpang nicht sehr nett, vielleicht hatte Sie aber auch nur einen schlechten Tag. Frühstück und Restaurant waren gut.

Das Personal war sehr nett. Man hatte uns zum Abendessen einen Tisch zugewiesen. Als die Dame uns dorthin brachte, hat sie wohl bemerkt, dass uns der Tisch und die Lage nicht gefallen hat. Sie hat direkt gefragt, ob wir woanders sitzen möchten und einen neuen Tisch vorgeschlagen. Zum Frühstück besteht freie Platzwahl. Das Hotel hat anhand unserer Geburtsangaben bemerkt, dass meine Frau Geburtstag hat und uns direkt einen Tisch reserviert und geschmückt. Beides zeugt von hoher Aufmerksamkeit des Personals und so stellt man sich das vor. Vielen Dank 👍 Haben wir alles auch schon anders erlebt. Insgesamt war das Hotel auch sehr schön. Ein Haupthaus und mindestens zwei Nebenhäuser. Das Restaurant bietet rustikale Küche (Biergarten Style). Daher war das Essen kein Sternemenü, aber trotzdem lecker. Preis-/Leistung passt. Auch ist die Lage zum Kloster Ettal genial. Direkt gegenüber 😊 Wir denken, dass wir gern noch mal wiederkommen werden.

Gutes Hotel in der wunderschönen Umgebung. Frühstück ist sehr gut ( eine zweite Kaffeemaschine wäre aber wg. Wartezeit sehr empfehlenswert ;) ). Zimmer sind sehr sauber und gepflegt. Der Wellnessbereich hat im Prinzip alles, aber etwas unbequem ist, dass die Verbindung zw Saunerbereich und Pool verschlossen ist und man muss einen Umweg Zufluss gehen. Es sind daher auch zu wenig Liegemöglichkeiten im Saunabereich. Dafür einige im Poolbereich. Alles zusammen ist das Hotel empfehlenswert, wen man insbesondere gut übernachten, Frühstücken und die Zeit in der Umgebung verbringen will.

Familienzimmer war toll, mit dem extra Zimmer und Bad war man sehr entspannt. Kommen gerne wieder, Abendessen/Küche war auch stets lecker und wir haben jeden Abend genossen. Die Zimmer waren sauber und gemütlich, Zimmerpersonal hat stets in kürze die Zimmer wieder gereinigt. Wir haben uns sehr gefreut. Vielen Dank ans ganze Team

Ein sehr schönes Hotel direkt gegenüber vom Kloster Ettal mit Parkmöglichkeit, direkt vor der Haustür. Die Zimmer sind sehr geschmackvoll im bayerischen Stil eingerichtet, der Wellnessbereich lädt zum verweilen ein, und das Frühstück hat keinen Wunsch offen gelassen

Gerne wieder!

Da wir aus Wettergründen ein Tag früher angereist sind, mussten wir ein Tag später in unser ursprüngliches Zimmer umziehen. Dies wurde von Magdalena hervorragend organisiert, da wir unterwegs waren. Am Nachmittag waren alle Gepäckstücke im neuen Zimmer. Kleiner Kritikpunkt, das Essen könnte für so ein gutes Haus etwas besser sein. Ansonsten waren wir rundherum zufrieden!

Joli mais un peu triste

Ambiance un brin monastique forcément dans cet hôtel lié au monastère local. Les chambres sont bien équipées mais un peu tristes. Le petit déjeuner est correct sans plus. Pratique pour visiter ke château de Linderhof.
