Being from the US, the hotel was the perfect German charm we were looking for. Common area and room was clean and all the employees were very helpful and friendly… and spoke English, which was a plus!!
Fantastic German breakfast was included in our room fee. We also had dinner at the attached restaurant. Food was German fare and was wonderful, as was the staff.

Very cute property with excellent views. The front staff was very helpful with accommodating us and our late arrival. The room was nice, though outdated. On the website when translated to English, it stated that there was a restaurant open until 10 and bar until midnight. When we arrived late, we were a little shocked to find out that nothing was open. The breakfast was pretty basic and a little cold. The receptionist showed me where on the website it said things were closed, so I believe it was more of a translation issue on the website, but it was still a bummer when we arrived hungry. Overall, the hotel suited our needs just for the night and heading out early morning. We did not get a chance to try any facilities.

Lovely alpine veiws

We just had an overnight stop here on our way to Austria. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the village and nearby monestry. The view down the valley is fantastic. The room was very clean and the restaurant served a good selection of Bavarian food. Parking was good and the village only a short walk away.
The chimes of the monestry clock every 15minutes might not be to everyone’s liking but certainly adds to the alpine atmosphere.

Our room looked out onto the Ettal Monastery and it was gorgeous. You get a great workout walking up and down to the monastery.

Linderhof is about 12 km away. Ettal Monastery is within walking distance. They have the cutest little frogs there. You must look for them. About the size of a dime.

Food wasn’t bad there. Breakfast was a nice spread.

We had dinner at Ettal Muller which was authentic German food. It was delicious.

The hotel restaurant was equally yummy and we all enjoyed our food.

I arrived very early ( around 0900 ) after a flight from Hong Kong to Munich and a couple of hours drive to Ettal. The lovely lady at reception gave me a very nice room immediately even though well before official check in time. I very much appreciated the opportunity to have a shower and a few hours sleep. I had a very nice dinner and the breakfast buffet good too...

Superhard bed, scratchy sheets, but amazing spa

I'll start with the bad, the sheets on the bed were very scratchy, this usually isn't a problem, but a scratchy pillow can become distracting. The bed itself wasn't very comfortable, due to how firm it was. At one point I considered sleeping on the floor, and even tried placing all the pillows underneath me to make it a little more comfortable. Also the wifi was not very good. It was an accesspoint for some other provider, and would often drop my connection.
Now for the good. The room was very clean, and very quant. The view is amazing as long as you pay for a room with a view, otherwise you're stuck looking at a grassy hill. It's probably the best view in town to be honest. The spa was great. It's very new, and has lots of features, which are available at no extra chrage to guests. The staff was also very friendly and helpful.

Stayed here for 4 nights in September 2018. We had one of the rooms with the view of the monestary. The view was amazing, and we enjoyed the balcony. Unfortunately, even though the weather was very warm, they had a fire in the firepit going every night downstairs, which blew smoke in our room, which wasn't great for my asthma. The hotel does not have AC, and the rooms were quite warm, so the window/door had to stay open. We did ask if there were any room fans but the answer was \"no.\" The breakfast was plentiful and delicious, and we did eat at the hotel restaurant and that was delicious as well. The beds were unfortunately very lumpy and in need of replacing.

Old hotel, beautifully positioned above the Abbey in Ettal. Very convenient for visiting Linderhof castle and other interesting attractions. Free, secure parking. Excellent restaurant (on patio) weather permitting. Downside is that the inside of hotel is tired and in desperate need of modernising. Large dining room is old fashioned and lacking in atmosphere. Our room (a comfort room with balcony) had a bathroom under the eaves which was tiny. There was a bath, but no usable shower - you could not use the shower head as you could not stand up!! Also, the water pressure was such that a bath would have taken at least 30 minutes to run. I would also think that these rooms would be unbearably hot during the summer - no air conditioning or fans. Breakfast was included but very disappointing - basic at best. I would not stay here again.

I paid extra to stay in the supreme room. Unfortunately this room is on the back of the hotel without any views which was the reason I chose this hotel. The rooms with the views are the smaller rooms. The manager wasn’t friendly and for some reason didn’t want to give me a robe for the spa. However, the rest of the staff were nice. The restaurant was excellent for breakfast and dinner. I would recommend the restaurant for sure. Our waiter always had a kind smile.

What a beautiful hotel in a breathtaking backdrop! We had a lovely stay at Hotel Blaue Gams with good service, a charming room and an excellent German breakfast buffet. The attached restaurant is cozy and great for a late night beer. The only thing I would change is that our room was right next to the stairwell, which was noisy in the morning. Overall, this is a great place to stay and you can’t beat the price.

Nice stay. Mountain view is no view at all.

If you want a view of the town and the Cloister you have to pay for it. We had a mountain view room which translated to seeing the side of the hill just outside of the balcony. The sauna facilities are very nice. The restaurant at the hotel is also very nice with good Bavarian Food. There is a walkway to down to the town, but treacherous in winter.

Lovely Bavarian Alps Getaway

If you're looking for a bed and breakfast, secluded feel, in the Bavarian Alps then this is the place for you. The views from the \"hotel\" are breath taking and the hotel is located in a really cute small town. There are also other towns near by (5 minute drive) if you're looking for more shops and restaurant options. The great thing about Blaue Gams is that it's more of a private feel with less tourists than some of the other towns. The staff was great! I arrived a little before check-in and no rooms were available yet but when I came back at check-in time, 3pm, I was given an upgrade on my room and was switched from a forest view to a room with a balacony overlooking the monastery which was breathtaking. Breakfast is included with the room which was lovely every morning.

Great Place to Stay

This hotel in the tiny village of Ettal is a diamond in the rough. Very nice facilities at a great value. The hotel is very attractive and clean. Huge, delicious breakfast buffet is included with the room. Good food at the onsite restaurant. Very quiet and relaxing. The location is great as a hub from which you can easily visit Munich, Neuchwanstein and Oberammergau. Five minute walk to the village of Ettal. Highly recommend.

This is a great hotel .. Quiet location with perfect view of the village. Listening to the bells at the Monastery was wonderful. Short walk into the village for shopping and dining. We went on a tour in the Monastery .. Not to be missed. The hotel has old world charm, very comfortable rooms, spa facilities. The new sauna and wellness area was very nicely done. We dined in the restaurant one evening, attentive staff and delicious food. Breakfasts were very filling and plenty of choices.

We stayed at this Hotel for a total of 4 days and used it as a central location to head out from on day trips, but return for a great dinner and a relaxing night. Lovely and quiet hotel minutes from Ettal Abbey. Absolutely gorgeous view from our balcony. The included breakfast was very nice and an unexpected surprise, and the general decor here was very homey and beautiful. We had a triple room and the bed I slept on was the sofa bed, which was not very comfortable. However, the regular beds seemed to be fine, and everything else was very nice. Lovely Bavarian hotel in a pretty and quiet location.

Good Stay.

This is a perfect landing pad location wise to see all that lower Bavaria has to offer. It's relatively close to Garmish, Linderhoff, and Neuschwanstein. Also a pleasant surprise is the Ettal Abby less than a 5 min walk from the hotel which was actually quite amazing.

The hotel itself is pretty charming although lacks some of the creature comforts we've become used to when traveling. The breakfast was good, the service was good too with everyone quick to offer up smiles. The walls however were paper thin and we were smack dab at the top of the stairway, so sleep was interrupted quite frenquently with people coming in and out. Also the sauna seemed like it would be really cool but it's only open from 3pm-7:30pm... Needless to say we were never at the hotel during these times.

We would probably come back and stay here in the future and it's a good option if you are looking to stay off the beaten path but still have access to the popular activities in the area.

We loved this hotel, it felt very traditionally German! It is quiet, and relaxing. There is a town down the hill but we didn't go down there, only stayed one night but would have liked to stayed longer. The service was great! nice but quaint room and bath. You could hear sheep outside the window at night ha. The breakfast was wonderful! the only negative thing is there wasn't any air conditioning in the room. So it was hot at night staying in early August.

Beautiful setting in a lovely quiet town.

This hotel is in a beautiful setting, with lovely views of the mountains and Monastery. The terrace is a great spot for dinner or drinks. Spacious, clean and comfy room with a much appreciated balcony (travelling with our 11 month old baby, so very useful in the evenings when she'd gone to bed). Good choice at breakfast. Would have liked more info/recommendations from reception staff on local area.

Lovely, traditional Bavarian guesthouse/hotel

The hotel is a lovely, traditional Bavarian hotel. The rooms were roomy by European standards (which is more like an average size to most Americans' understanding)with a very nice, clean, modern bathroom. There was a lovely view over the Abbey in town and it would be a very short downhill walk to the Abbey and shops/restaurants as well (although a beastly climb back up!) That said, you should really eat at the hotel restaurant because it is so cozy and the food is great too. Breakfast was included and it was a very generous continental buffet with a few hot items (eggs and sausages). It is between Garmisch and Oberammergau, a short drive to either - so a nice alternative if you want to be somewhere centrally-located, quiet and nice. The wifi worked very well and there were a couple of tv channels in English as well. On a previous stay we selected the guesthouse side - and it was also very nice, although a bit more basic and a bit cheaper as a result. Both are great options, and overall - I would recommend this place and/or stay there again myself.

Wir waren auf der Durchreise für 1 Nacht im Hotel Blaue Gams. Wir waren sehr zufrieden und würden jederzeit wieder kommen. Unser Zimmer war zwar klein aber sehr gemütlich. Für 1 Nacht passte es. Das FrühstücksBuffet war sehr gut. Das Personal sehr freundlich. Besonders hervorheben möchte ich das Restaurant. Das Essen war sehr gut. Auf jeden Fall dort essen und nicht wo anders hin gehen.

We LOVED this place! Great location in a very cute village, delicious breakfast and friendly staff. Some very nice hiking trails in the area as well.

Nice typical german hotel next to the famous monastery, clean room with good sturdy beds. A little too pricey for the value but sufficient. We had a good stay here

Unterkunft sehr schön gelegen. Allerdings hatten wir ein sehr kleines Zimmer im DG mit entsprechender Dachschräge. Für eine Nacht war das Zimmer ok - aber einen längeren Urlaub wollten wir hier nicht verbringen. Das Zimmer war neu renoviert und ansprechend gestaltet, die Betten war sehr bequem.
Das Abendessen im Restaurant war köstlich.

Lo que más nos gustó fue la vista de la habitación, la temperatura estaba perfecta aunque el baño algo pequeño. Mala la información sobre horario de la misa en el Claustro. Y el parqueadero se queda pequeño a veces. El desayuno estupendo!

Selten bin ich so unfreundlich empfangen worden. Wir hatten eine sehr sehr lange Anreise und eine freundliche Begrüßung wie ein \"Willkommen\" wäre Standard gewesen. Stattdessen wurden wir von einer genervten Mitarbeiterin eingewiesen, wo die Zimmer seien, da wir ja zum ersten Mal da seien. Ich hatte vorher einen Tisch zum Abendessen reserviert, auf meine Nachfrage wurde mitgeteilt, dass diese Bitte weitergeleitet wurde an das Restaurant.. eine sehr grimmige Begrüßung insgesamt, die während des Aufenthalts nicht besser wurde. DAS kenne ich anders in anderen Hotels.

Vackert bayerskt lanthotell med skral inredning.

Vackert hotell, fint läge, vackert modernt rum. Flott design men Undermåligt bad/dusch/wc-rum utan riktig dörr och ingen alls plats för egen utrustning, duschvägg inte optimal = blött. Sänglampor opraktiska. Middagsservice långsam, närmare 2tim. Reception 0 information om orten. Frukost utmärkt.
