The room was very old, the toilet seat was broken and clearly been attempted to be fixed multiple times but failed. The beds were uncomfortable. The room and linens were clean but let down by the overall condition of the room. The staff were mostly unwelcoming but the location was perfect.

Rooms had old locks with huge keys n no chains so felt unsafe at night .the hotel stopped heat at night , when went down to complain the guy said to write on the email no . Same answer in the morning.at night outside the hotel door n also at reception 2-3 guys sitting n chatting n you could smell drink on them . Not a safe place . Only positive point is the location. Better option would be excelsior hotel nearby

We arrived to find the lift broken and our room on the 6th floor. The bedding configuration was not what we had requested and when we explained to the staff why we needed twin beds, they shrugged. Lift was eventually fixed and bedding provided for the sofa. The room was dated, ashtray on the terrrace was full. Convenient location

I spent very little time in the hotel. I basically only slept in it as was otherwise busy with work commitments in the city. The room was okay. A little dated and tired, a little grubby here and there but not dirty. Overall it was ideal for me to get my head down and expect nothing more.

The room could do with a safe to secure valuables.

Location is excellent though, 30 second walk to the cathedral square.

Breakfast didn’t start until 8am, which was a shame as I had to leave the hotel prior to this both mornings.

The room is perfect for solo travel (double room could work for a couple) - I upgraded my room mid stay. My first room was a single room with a twin bed there was duct tape holding the toilet flusher on wall that was a first lol / my second room was a double bed and a floor up. I was curious - both rooms were very spacious and clean. No frills Hôtel , amazing for the cost and amazing location also amazing water pressure in showers. The front desk staff -Adam was very friendly and helpful!

The hotel is not new but our room had been redone and was perfectly fine. The rate is really good for the location. Obviously being close to the cathedral means front row seat for the bell ringing ;-). So if you enjoy a lie-in, it's probably better to choose an hotel further away.
The area around the hotel is great, lively with lots of options to eat.

Adequate for a very short stay

Very dated and carpet was dirty. They supply slippers for your feet and they were much needed! The balcony flooded in the 2 nights we stayed there due to the rainy weather. Only one mug in the kitchen and not much else to eat off.. a few plates. One pan. Water tastes disgusting out of the tap but they had bottled water to use. Wasn’t sure if this was free or not. They need to make that clear. Not a great stay, but place was very spacious and was adequate for 2 nights. We did have the maid knocking on our door at 11:20 on the 2nd day asking us to leave because she needs to clean and check out was at 11:00. We told her we were booked in for 2 days and she just huffed at me and walked away. Very bad attitude. The receptionists were lovely though and apologised for the maids behaviour after I commented on what had happened that morning.

I honestly don't understand why the place doesn't have a better rating. The interior is kind of wierd, like a mix of different styles. But that's the only thing that can be noticed. The room and the bathroom are very big and clean. Amazing friendly and helpful stuff. Great location and amenities. Great water pressure. Comfortable bathroom with the space for all your things. The only thing that can be an issue is fridge. There is no one. But I want take any points for that because overall I was very satisfied.

This hotel is run down. It looked like something out of a really bad movie. No night tables. No fridge. No soap. No tissue. The floor was filthy. I had to wear my shoes to go to the bathroom. Cheap vinyl planks on the floor and dollar store curtains on the windows. The bed is way too low to the ground and the “supposed” bed skirt was just pinned on. This is not a zero but a -10.

It's a bit noisy outside with the cathedral bells in the mornings and people walking around at night, but the location is super convenient since it is right next to the train station and the Cologne Cathedral. The room I had was very small. It wasn’t in the best condition but it is very convenient to access the Dom area and transit. So as long as you know that, and if you are looking for a place just to lay your head, this property would be fine.

Worst ever hotel stay

This is without doubt the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. We had booked to four nights but checked out after one it was so bad - we have never left a hotel early before but we could not wait to get out of here.

From the first moment when the receptionist ignored us to talk to her hairdresser friends on the lobby to the moment the next morning when we gave her back the keys and left as quick as we could, it was a nightmare.

Our room was unbelievably hot. There was an AC unit in our room that did not work. When I asked at reception about the issue the man there laughed at me and said there was no AC in the hotel. I left wondering whether the AC remote in my hand was a figment of my imagination.

The room was dirty and squalid. The carpet in our room had more stains than it did actual carpet. There was a kitchen that came with one dirty bowl one unwashed glass with lipstick stains and various other crockery that looked like it has not been cleaned in years.

The curtains in all of the rooms did not close properly. They failed to cover the windows and meant you could not block out the light. The curtains themselves were so thin they had no effect anyway.

Then there was the building work. Our whole floor except for our room was being ripped apart and rebuilt. There was building noise until 6pm on the day we arrived and it started again at 8am the next morning. It was really loud. They were also hot treating the roof and the smell sealed into the room.

The hotel had an odor upon arrival.Drunks in the lobby, and was filthy. I took the chance to see the room which was appalling.A tiny, dirty room with a plastic mattress with ants all over it and the blanket. I was shocked and horrified that Expedia would list such a place. Clearly a flop house of sorts.I am requesting a refund.

Some hiccups and obstacles

On arrival we were told there was a city tax to pay which I think Hotels.com should have dealt with when we booked the room.

We booked a twin room and then received a single double bed. There was a staff shortage and after some waiting we were given another room which we manually separated the double bed.

The shower fountain kept falling down and the was no plug for the bath.

There was no luggage storage room left when we checked out.

Good location and average hotel and average service overall 6/10.

While this hotel is in an excellent location, I was a bit surprised that this was the most expensive hotel that we stayed at in all of Germany but it was the most basic. No airconditioning, a hair salon in the foyer, quite dated and am not sure why it has \"Arthouse\" in its name

Basic hotel but did the job. Hard to tell about pricing as was there during Euros and short notice so obv a price spike.

Staff friendly enough...room very basic...quite dusty and bedside lights didnt work, no air con (even tho i paid extra for it!)....gets quite noisy due to location so if you are a light sleeper this isnt for you.

Had a decent sleep as bed was quite comfy, even in hot weather and thats the main thing.

Shower pressure very good and bathroom was perfectly fine.

Overall a hotel thats a good base for exploring Koln due to location (2min from cathedral and train station, 5-8min from the Rhine) and somewhere if you just wanna crash- not a hotel if you want a luxury stay.

It is very convenient as everything is in within walking distance.

1) The things we didn’t like about this place is that on Expedia, it said they had air conditioning but turned out they really didn’t. So, the room was very hot even with the windows open and we couldn’t sleep, so checked out after the first night to go stay at a different hotel.

2) The staff must use vinegar to clean, so the smell of it just linger so strongly in the hallway and it was just horrible. Also, the repair crew kept things lying around in front of the doors, so it was very inconvenient for us to exit.

It was not a good experience for us as we couldn’t sleep at all, but if you are okay with not having an AC, then it is definitely in the Köln’s prime spot.

Good base for the Cathedral

This is a well placed hotel a stones throw away from the Cathedral.

We stayed for two nights to visit the markets and it was great to use as a base.

The room was quite clean and tidy and the staff were excellent, due to an early flight we got the a few hours before check in but as our room was ready we were checked straight in with no issues.

The bed was comfortable enough but the spare blankets in the cupboard were a bit dirty and we didn't end up using them even though it was a bit cold.

Wifi was Horrible! Very frustrating situation! I had to use off my phone data instead. Even then signal wasn't the best. Therefore was not able to complete what I needed to work on.

But it should be an easy enough fix for the hotel if they choose to fix it!

Otherwise, carpets really need cleaning. BUT great for the central location near Central Station / Kölner Dom/ Catherdal.

In general the property is run down. The shower head would not stay up and needed to be held in place with one hand. The sink was badly worn down and needed to be replaced. A group of creepy men were constantly standing outside and staring at the women in a gross way. A group of similar men stayed outside the hotel playing music and talking very loudly until 3AM. To be fair the sheets were were clean and the bed comfortable. The location is excellent. A few steps away from the Domer and Hohe st.

I liked the location and the receptionist a lot! (Room 109) What I didn't like a lot was that the table still had stains from previous mugs. Also one of the sockets is a bit loose so make sure to properly plug in the charger! In the shower the shower head holder is weirdly angled so you have to hold it in your hand but that's no problem.

The property location is a 10/10 it is located at the heart of the city center. The staff are very friendly as well.
The Hotel however is in need of renovation and just feels outdated. On a hot day there is no Air Conditioning and you cannot open the windows since the noise from outside is too much. All the reviews about the strange smell in the rooms etc were true for us. To add to this there was no hot water in the night to the morning. The hotel cleaning staff missed the turndown as well so we had no turndown in the 3 nights we were there unfortunately (They offered a turndown when we complained but this was late at night and we were just looking to sleep) If your neighbors are noisy you will not get any sleep since the noise really travels through the walls.
In conclusion
Pros: Amazing Location, Friendly staff, good wifi

Cons: Funky smelling rooms, No AC, Poor quality sheets and pillows, Amenities are dated, no charging ports at the bedside, no in room safe

Location is very central, just a minute away from Dom and the train station. Still, fairly quiet and away from the more trafficed streets, even though the homeless seemed to have a get-together place just around the corner.
Room very basic, with a bed, tv, a large table and a chair, and a kettle. No storage, curtains rather poor and letting in a lot of light.
Bathroom rather unpleasant, with terrible lighting and from above covered with slats through which one can see there are cables and pipes up there.
If the bathroom were more palatable this might be an ok place but based on my experience I'd look for another option when next in town.

Room service only change the towels, and the rubbish bin that’s all ! The toilet water kept flowing for 3 nights stay although it was reported the first night with a very annoying water flow sound nothing fixed. Otherwise hotel location is really great !

was extremely disappointed with check-in when I was asked to pay an \"early check in fee\". The front desk said it is usually 20 Euro, but they can reduce to 10 Euro. which of course they wouldn't let us pay by credit card - so the cash went right into the guys pocket. such a scam - but not real choice here. The location is very close to train station and walking distance to all the Kolsh places etc, and it was relatively cheap - so you get what you pay for. but try looking somewhere else first.

This is the worst hotel I have stayed in during my many visits to Cologne, the room was poorly decorated (i.e. boring) there was a bed, the sheets had small holes in them, there were two dining chairs and a table with TV, the bathroom was small and narrow. The breakfast was ok but at 12.50 very expensive for what you get and the hotel itself is way over priced. This is not a 3 star hotel and barely raises itself above a hostel. I will never go back.

Location is perfect, so close to the Cologne cathedral and also Cologne Hbf is in 3 min walk. A little bit noisy until late at night but acceptable. Room was small but clean. Staff was nice too. There was staff at the front even around midnight, so why do they restrict the check-in until 6 pm?
