The food offered for the breakfast buffet was unfortunately every day the same and not sourced from the area the hotel is located in.
That's not what one would expect from a 4 star hotel in Germany.

The person on the reception did not speak well neither English, nor German, and it was impossible to understand her. Rooms were mixed up (even though I clearly discussed on the phone that best room is for the bride), instead all luggage were carried in the wrong room. No drinking water bottles were provided in the most expensive room of the whole hotel, which is ridiculous. When we called and asked to order some, we were told to go to the bar and ask for it ourselves. That was only after the person on the phone finally understood what we wanted, because again, neither English nor German was working. The rooms were clean and beautiful. Those with the view really had a great overlook over the lake.

My husband and I had a fantastic time. American Military on a business trip. Will be back soon and will definitely come back. The staff were lovely and the room is cozy and clean. The area is stunning, the perfect location.

We stayed one night in September 2024. Room 286 has a balcony overlooking the lake and the mountains. Geraniums line the deck railing. The room is beautifully designed with plenty of space for your things and it is very well lit. Above the usual care was taken with the lighting, the ceiling painted detail above the bed and the photograph mural on one wall. The best room we have stayed in on this three week trip.

Dinner was buffet - it was good with plenty of choice. Breakfast is served in the same restaurant overlooking the lake. Very nice hotel.

Had a wonderful stay at the hotel Badersee, 5 min on car to Eibsee or you can hike from the place. Room was small and no air-condition but they gave us a fan. Clean towels and bedding, bathrobes included for Spa. 90c Sauna with panoramic view to Zugspitze. Breakfast and dinner very good and large variety. There is a lake at the hotel area and terrace that’s overlooks Mountains. I recommend and would come back :)

We were there for one night and acknowledge the limitations of my experience. It was a fine hotel. The staff was friendly enough, the breakfast buffet had a lot of options, and the property was scenic. The room felt small and dark and left something to be desired. We did have a great Bavarian meal in Grainau, which was a highlight of the trip. If I could book this leg again, I might do Fussen or Garmisch for the Lake Eibsee day.

Amazing Stay at Hotel am Badersee

Our stay at Hotel am Badersee was so cozy, comfortable and memorable. We would highly recommend a stay here if you will be in southern Bavaria and we would return here on a future visit to Germany.

We spent the day at Zugspitze and this hotel was the perfect location to stay after that. We originally planned to spend 1 night only, but liked the hotel and location so much that we spent 2 nights and took the opportunity to take the bus (with the complementary bus passes provided by the hotel) to visit some of the smaller neighboring towns and villages in the area (Garmisch was beautiful).

A highlight of the stay was the delicious food that was served at the dinner and breakfast buffets. There was a large variety of things to pick from and it was in a beautiful setting overlooking the lake, but most important of all, the food was absolutely delicious. We loved the variety after eating most of the traditional German foods for several days in Munich.

We were also pleasantly surprised by the lower $10/night parking fee as compared to parking fees in Munich.

Fantastic four nights at the beautiful Hotel am Badersee, which is just 4-5km from Garmisch and a short hop to Lake Eibsee. We loved everything there and would definitely like to go back to enjoy the spectacular scenery nearby. The room, facilities, spa, breakfast, free parking, and excellent staff (especially Cosmin) made our stay in the Alps a memorable one!

Beautiful location

Hotel am Badersee is beautifully located on a crystal clear, reflective pond at the foot of the mountains. Dining at the restaurant overlooking the pond was peaceful and beautiful. The food and service were excellent. Rooms were updated and comfortable. Location is excellent for nearby hiking and access to the Zugspitze bahn to take you between the Eibsee and Garmisch Partenkirschen. We would happily stay here again.

Great winter resort

Great hotel nestled in the lap of nature in Grainau. It’s about 6 km from Garmisch but totally worth it! It’s located next to a beautiful lake with a nice hiking path. The rooms are old school but well appointed with amenities. The sauna was very nice after a day of skiing. Food was good and we enjoyed our breakfast. There was free parking available outside but we took the paid basement parking to keep our car warm and easily accessible via the elevators. There were many sweet little gestures like a complimentary postcard postage, Christmas presents etc. Overall we loved it.

The Lake view room was great, and clean. My check-in was terrible though. 4 huge luggages and the lift to hotel was obscure, through the restaurant. For this price, I had expected an escort to the lift at least, but dissatisfied with the front counter which had twice failed to help me out to even walk with me to the lift. I mean, how difficult is that especially since i had 2 young kids in tow, there for the first time. Had a bad initial experience but fortunately the rest of hitel staff were wonderful.

Exceptional Experience with a View

It was dark out when we reached Hotel am Badersee. It was cold. It was late. I’d consumed way too much sparkling water and was 10 minutes away from having to get my car seat reupholstered. At that point in our three-week trip, I would have been perfectly happy with a Vietnam-era cot and latrine.

Instead I checked into this gem and was blown away by the luxury, service, and attention to detail.
The check-in process was painless and parking was conveniently located in a garage underneath (you could park outside if you like but for only 8 Euro, it was a bargain to have it inside and right next to an elevator).

Our room was spacious and, unbeknownst to me at the time, looked out over a beautiful lake and impressive mountains. When we woke up it was like we had been transported to the late-Cretaceous period. “Life finds a way.”

The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the bathroom was perfect. I liked the separated shower/sink/vanity and water closet. Crisis averted.

There was a ton of closet space and also a ton of desk space which meant I could get some work done…except that the WiFi was really really bad. While I could connect to the router, the service was too slow for my laptop to register and my phone barely squeaked by. This just meant that I had to relax instead (insert eye-roll for effect).

The food was delicious and there was plenty of time and space to enjoy a long lazy breakfast.

Everything about this gem of a hotel was a delight. The room and furnishings were outstanding. We arrived when it was dark and the view out our balcony in the morning left us breathless. The breakfast was a wonderful Bavarian treat. The spa and sauna was obviously designed with love.

Beautiful location

Super views of the mountains. Beautiful calm and quiet forest environment. Loved the area. Rooms are nice, very spacious, comfortable but not very modern. The staff was mostly ok, however the restaurant staff did not seem too happy to serve us at 20.30 on a Sunday eve after we've had a whole day of travelling and just wanted to get some food.

Die Hotelanlage ist sehr gut gelegen (Haltestellen, Fuß und Wanderwege) und sehr hübsch direkt am Badersee. Die Anlage ist zwar recht groß, doch mindert die Architektur recht gut diesen Eindruck. Das Zimmer war gut eingerichtet und der Balkon bot zusätzliches Ambiente mit tollem Ausblick. Alles in Allem recht zufrieden!

Unfortunately the experience from the food was not as we had thought it to be . And if you have special needs redarding food to take care off , this it not the hotel . Das Hotel am Badersee ist seit Jahren eine unserer Lieblingsadressen.
Personal, Ambiente, Restaurant, Wellnessbereich und die Umgebung des Hotels sind einfach nur ein Traum.
Für uns der ideale Ort um zu entspannen.
Wir versuchen, seit unserer Hochzeit hier im Hotel (welche damals übrigens auch grandios geplannt und ausgerichtet wurde), jedes Jahr zu unserem Hochzeitstag hierher zu kommen.
Einziger Wermutstropfen: Seit Corona haben die Übernachtungspreise leider deutlich angezogen. Weshalb wir die letzten Jahre nicht mehr so oft hier gebucht haben.
