Some amenities were not available- Finnish sauna was out of use due to construction/repair, and the restaurant is only open Wed-Sun. Paid $72 for \"half pension\" option for two people thinking it would be comparable to others in the area-- it was buffet and not worth the price. Also paid extra for \"king\" bed which was just two beds smushed together. Did not receive VIP room upgrade.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Our room was right by the lake and we had an amazing view from our balcony across the mountains. The room itself was a family suite with two bedrooms and a separate living room. It was clean and nicely decorated with lots of space. We had half board and both the breakfast and dinner were good. Both were buffets with plenty of choice. There was always a vegetarian option for dinner and soup, a salad bar and a variety of desserts. The staff were all very friendly.

The location of the hotel is stunning. We didn’t have a car and did lots of walking as a result. It’s about 35-40 minutes to walk to a shop in town. You could walk to a train station for the cog wheel train to Zugspitze in about 30 mins. There were also a couple of places to eat within walking distance - near the alpspitz cable car.

The lake was surprisingly warm for swimming and hiring paddleboards was very reasonable at 10 euros for 30 mins.

Our children enjoyed the giant chess and curling available for free. There was also a selection of board games at reception.

All in all we had a great time here and would recommend it for families.

The property is in a rural like setting yet is only minutes away from Partenkirchen. There is a beautiful lake to sit outside and enjoy as well as a walking path around the lake. The breakfast and dinner buffets were huge and had so many choices to eat. The food was very good. There are several lounge areas both inside and outside to sit around and relax. Parking onsite. I would stay here again!

Excellent hotel! Chose it primarily because of the surrounding scenery and it did not disappoint. The hotel is suprisingly large and consists of multiple buildings. The staff is super friendly and helpful (despite my poorly spoken German!), the room was very nice & clean, the bed was comfortable, and the breakfast buffet is unsurpassed - food tastes great and there are so many choices! The restaurant (by the lake) is also very good. I would definately choose this place to stay at again if my travels bring me back in this direction. Highly recommended!

This was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in! It was even more beautiful in person. It's a nice hike down to the town with really nice views along the way. The room was cozy, clean and comfortable with a gorgeous view of the lake. It was so nice waking up in the morning and sitting on the balcony watching the sunrise. The food was delicious as well, with a very nice restaurant. We rented bikes from the hotel to bike around the area.

Room servive was average at best: ran out of shampoo and liquid soap. dirty dishes were left in the room, beach towels were not changed. View out of rooms was spectacular, but we paid for that. Dinner options limited. Dinner buffet not very attractive. Staff only average for $400/night

We loved the size of our family panorama suite, the view of the lake and mountains was absolutely stunning. However, the accommodations are missing basic amenities for active families traveling with children, such as nightlights (all reading lights by the beds were only usable in conjunction with the bright wall lights, not separately unless you unscrew the light bulbs) or dimmers, wall hooks in the bedrooms, a second bathroom with bathtub, outlets by the beds, a line or rack to dry off your bathing suits and wet clothes, a light on the terrace, a tea/coffee maker (we were told to borrow a water kettle from the front desk but it didn't come with cups or tea bags), separate light switches in the living room (there are plenty of lamps but you can only turn on all of them at once or you sit in the dark, no reading light or possibility to dim). We appreciated the fridge in the room but it was tiny and didn't fit most of our bottles There is no AC and the only way to get air is to open the windows which means you're letting a ton of bugs and mosquitoes in, as well. A huge spider in the bedroom seemed to benefit most from that.
Another issue were the closings of the lakeside restaurant and spa upon our arrival. The spa didn't reopen until the end of the second day due to maintenance and it appears that there is still construction and limited access in the sauna area. The jets in the jacuzzi didn't work. The limited dining options forced us to drive down to town twice.

The hotel is off the beaten path but that's what makes it quiet and beautifully surrounded by nature. Our room overlooked the lake with mountains beyond! The breakfast was very good and the restaurant at night was excellent--It isn't open full time so we only got to eat there once in our 2 night stay. Parking was in front of our building. Nice for families and lake activities (nothing motorized). Would highly recommend!

Wow wow and wow! This place is amaaaazing!!!! From arriving in our hire car, we just knew this place and it's setting were going to be something special. A beautiful warm welcome from the girls on the front desk. Some complimentary delicious treats were offered to us on arrival!

This hotel is very high on class and quality and the setting on the lakeside and amongst an amazing forest you can hike all around. The snowfall made it even more magical.
The food was delicious. We ended up just eating at the hotel in the evenings because it was very reasonably priced and nice selection of menus. You can either eat in the main hotel or the seehaus where we had our wonderful room with theost breathtaking views of the mountains.
Breakfast was also a highlight every morning. A fine and quality selection of cooked breakfast (bacon, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, hard boiled eggs) Porridge/Bircher/yogurts and all the cheese and meats.

This place is amazing value and has a lovely older lady serving in the seehaus. she is a right character! Called me The Schnitzel man because I couldn't get enough of their elite level schnitzel hee.

Would stay here again and most certainly will be back. :)

The location is great and the staff was absolutely wonderful. The ladies in the breakfast dining room couldn’t do enough to make sure you were happy with your breakfast. The staff at the front desk were helpful with our requests and helping with our planning for our activities. The hotel had some renovations going on that should make the experience even better. They renovated the sauna and the breakfast dining area. There were repairs being made to one of the elevators that required you to use others, no real problem. Overall a great experience.

We have stayed here five times and love its location and ambience however we see things sadly slipping. No longer the big welcoming log fire in the reception area. Sauna and steamroom closed for renovation (that's ok that it is being renovated but nobody told us this when we booked ). Floating pontoon for drinks and snacks on lake removed. Half board dining one night was simply awful. In fairness, breakfast is first class. Staff are wonderful all areas. Not a lot to get the show back on the road Hotel Riesersee so go for it!

Hotel was located beside a beautiful lake and had a nice view of the mountains nearby. There has to be better soundproofing or at least some staff should keep a lookout for loud guests , especially after 10PM when everyone is trying to get some sleep. While we were staying there, a large group of guests were in front of the hotel, being loud and rowdy all the way till midnight. We could hear them well, even though our windows were tightly closed.

The small lake was a bit dissappointing--not because of its size but I think because it didn't look clean or inviting. However, on the day that we left (2 night stay) we saw someone cleaning out the muck or whatever it was floating on top of lake.

Nice hotel but not as good as it was 10 years ago!

Revisited this hotel after 10 years absence and although it is a nice hotel in a fantastic setting it was missing the previous ambience and in need of some tlc. The clientele has changed and the spa and pool was being repaired during our visit which was very disappointing considering that was one of the main reasons for booking. All in all a nice hotel but has changed too much to tempt us back.

A Wonderful Hotel and Spa in the German Alps

Lisa Stark, the Front Desk Manager, was great! She gave us a great room with a balcony overlooking the city of Garmish, which was beautiiful at night as she predicted. Our server for dinner, Ilisa Pavkovic, was excellent as was the food in your restaurant. Likewise, our server at the wonderful breakfast, Durdica Kucek, was also attentive and excellent. I liked the massage that I received that evening from Maria Galland. We both enjoyed the spa with the sauna and steam room in the evening. A wonderful hotel, which we will recommend to others.

Great price and wonderful views. Compared to traditional German hotels these rooms are large and comfortable. We always stay in the loft rooms. The restaurant serves good food and is very convienient. The breakfast is good and has enough options. We have stayed here multiple times with no issues. This last time we encountered a night manager that might have been having a rough couple of days but the day staff made up for the issues. Advice for Americans, they are very strict about charging for a third person even if the room sleeps more than three. We were told that two children can stay free but a third adult either needed their own room or was an minimum 55 Euro extra per night. All in all, this is a great hotel and good option for those Americans that can’t stay @ edelweiss lodge on base.

Stayed in the D wing right above the spa. Very convenient getting down into the gym and sauna and pool - a straight shot on the lift. Had a loft bedroom facing the lake (frozen over as of 24 Jan) nice views nonetheless. A bit disappointed with the condition of the sofa. Heavily soiled on seats and arm rests. Walls were paper thin. Could hear neighbors and folks milling about in the hall way. Breakfast buffet was excellent with a good selection of breads, fresh fruits, eggs, meats, cheeses and drinks. Sadly they didn't have a fire going in the fireplace until the weekend with just two pieces of wood on one side of the fireplace. Overall a great stay even in the winter. Will try in the spring or fall.

The hotel resort is tucked away at the end of a road high on the foothills near an Alpine lake (Riesser See). The views fron the property are inspiring. Similar to a cruise, they print a suggested activities brochure each morning. For a resort experience, you will want to opt for the (halb pension) option that will include breakfast and dinner buffets. The quality of the buffet food is excellent and the wait staff are very accommodating. Drinks are not included in the price, but are very reasonable. The property is about a 7 minute drive to Hausberg skiing area and central Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The property is very clean and I noticed A/C units for each guest room. The property also has another restaurant with full service, but is not included in the halb pension fee. There is a full service spa, indoor pool, small fitness center, extensive bar, and various meeting rooms. Parking in included: they will issue you a special pass upon registration. Most guests were couples in their 30s to 60s, and several brought their well behaved dogs.

Not the best location being so far out of town but the local area is very nice and well worth a walk around the lake. The hotel wasn’t the most comfortable but ideal for only one night as we stopped in Garmisch en route to Austria. Restaurant was very disappointing as they didn’t seem to want our patronage. Our German isn’t very good so can be expected I guess.

Good hotel with a view

Good hotel complex located outside of town, on a beautiful hillside (in my opinion not walking distance to the center of Garmish unless you are ok to walk about 45 min on the street).
Hotel is older but well maintained, room was confortable and had a balcony with a view of the mountains and town. Buffet Breakfast was ok, plenty of options to choose from, but seating was an issue at times as the staff was limited and did not get around to clear the tables fast enough (they did work hard to please guests so can’t fault them on that).
Overall ok value for the money, would probably stay again.

This was a perfect resort hotel for our September visit. It was too cool to use the lake and it wasn't ski-season, yet, but we enjoyed hiking and visiting the natural beauty of Garmish-Partenkerchen! The hotel is starting to show its age and seems not to have been updated since the 1970s or so. The staff was amazingly helpful directing us to nearby mountain to hike and locations to visit while there. We stayed for 3 nights and loved every minute of it. With a nice, quite balcony overlooking the town, we were able to unwind each night. Highly recommend with or without kids!

They are so racist to Arab people

The staff ask me to pay deposit 500 Euro and I was shocked and ask them for more explanation and directly provide me with an information sheet in the Arabic language and they said you have to pay or no room, on the end I paid. after that I have asked Germain and European residents in the hotel if they face this all of them they say no, no one paid deposit. In the check out all the people in front of me, they make an easy check out with a smile expect me because they said wait we will check the room first then will do check out, I was impressed since all the residents looking to me.

Finally, they are so racist to Arab people, we are not welcomed in this hotel.

Weather was hot and room had no AC. Sink and tub did not drain properly. Double beds which are common in Europe but are set up to be one bed are not comfortable. Hotel has a sign that says \" Barefoot Only\" in pool area, but floor is tiled and very slippery. Easy to fall. The hotel is in a prime location as you wake up in the am and look at the mountains. Minor fixes I'm sure.

Location on a lake. Very pretty. This is an old hotel and it shows. Shower in thet tub, very inconvenient, water all over the floor.

The hotel location is excellent thought a bit outdated but be careful they might delay your checkout process but letting you standing and the checkout sftaa will go up to check your rooms as if you have stolen but thing from the room

Incredible views and friendly staff

The hotel staff was very helpful, the rooms were nice, and the view from the hotel grounds is incredible. Would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a place with a view.

We had a nice, two level room. When we got there, we were planning on having dinner, however, due to a wedding, the entire service restaurant was inaccessible, despite being largely empty. They did have a buffet that was rather expensive for what you got, but when we tried room service, they kept redirecting until we were put through to a number that didn't work. We tried calling the front desk, but no one answered. Otherwise, the hotel was comfortable and close to great locations. The only thing would be to check if there are events going on nearby, we ran into a large one that inhibited our ability to go to the mountain.

Unique and picturesque hotel on a mountain

Business trip - found the hotel to be much more isolated than needed for my purpose. None the less food was amazing ! And hotel staff were extremely kind- room was warm with a nice view and amenities like gym and spa were a plus.
I was comfortable and happy with the time I spent there.

Expected better

Great views. Service at large was mediocre and somewhat belligerent, perhaps due to the hotel at capacity. Ordered meal first night and took well over 1 hour and 15 minutes for a cheeseburger (which was completely burnt). Gym seemed dated from 1980s, which was curious given that it bills itself as a spa. Again, perhaps in less busy conditions it is a wonderful place, I can only vase my assumptions on this experience.

Great spot.

This is a great spot just outside of town on a nice lake with plenty of hiking trails nearby. The breakfast is huge for European standards and really good.

great location , but service should be better

first this is a four star hotel and at your site it shows 4.5 stars (what is the definition for that? ) it is more likely to rate a low 4star hotel. the location is great. but the service should get better. no shampoo in the room . no refill of cosmetic products. the ashtray in the balcony emptied only on the second day from leftover of the previous visitors. the floor in the restaurant was sticky and a lot of other small things that make the all picture.

Highly recommended!

Really enjoyed our stay at the Riesserseehotel. The service was fantastic!
Breakfast as well as the Seehaus restaurant (with its view from the terrace) were great! The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times! We can only recommend the Riesserseehotel to anyone visiting Garmisch.

Beautiful one night stay

This was always a one night stop after visiting neuschwanstein castle some 60kms away. We were lucky(?!) that the area had a recent snow fall that made the whole area look magical.
We arrived in early evening to an efficient reception ncluding a glass of apple juice for everyone.
Rooms were smallish but very comfortable.
The hotel stay was very affordable. We had great dinners and breakfasts at the buffet restaurant and everything was good value.
If we are in this area again I would certainly stay here again.
The hotel itself is probably a little aged but not out of character with surrounding area of Germany and Austria.
