We booked this property because there were not any others left and had VERY low expectations going in based on past reviews.

However, I have to say I was very pleased with our stay!

For the price- This is a great value stay! Great breakfast, great location. This is NOT in Garmisch but is in the Partenkirchen side of town. Just an 8 minute bus ride to downtown Garmisch.

Biggest CONS:

Church bells- The church bell across from the hotel can be very annoying and woke me up at night a few times.

Additional Fees- I booked for 3 guests on Orbitz but for some reason the hotel only showed two even though I showed them my Orbitz reservation showed 3. They charged us additional for the 3rd guest that they \"were not aware of\" This is a problem in there systems with 3rd party booking platforms such as Orbitz that they need to address.

Good hotel/restaurant with just minor issues

The hotel was clean and lively. The restaurant was a good traditional place. Breakfast was extensive. Room was prim and simple with a brand new bathroom. Location was good (I didn't mind the church clock tower across the alley, but others may). Only real issue was the advertised wi-fi was down and the management didn't seem to care about addressing it even though I was clear about it being an issue.

My booking with Expedia had kitchenette and hair dryer.. There was neither in our accomadation. There was no fridge either as per booking. No kettle in room and was asked for €1.50 for a mug of hot water. None of our 4 phones were able to get free WiFi for the duration of our stay. So no ability to book online deals on ski hire or ski passes. There were holes in my bed sheets. Some of the evening female staff were not friendly at all. The breakfast and breakfast staff on the other hand were wonderful. I understand it is a busy time of year but rolling beer barrels at 2am outside our window woke us up.

I do not recommend this place. There is NO WiFi in the room. I specifically booked this room for the free WiFi. I asked to switch rooms since the place was empty but he said to talk to his chef who said he'd fix the wifi in 1 hour. You can get a weak signal in the stairwell but the mgr scolded us for sitting there. The mgr did not say you had to pay to park. He directed us to the parking garage. We got a ticket. You can only pay with Euro coins not bills and not credit card. When I asked for change, he had a purse full of coins but would only give me a 5Euro coin and the remainder in bills. You have to pay another 20 Euros to the guesthouse when you get there for a city tax. You can not easily adjust the radiator heating system. I think it turns off at night. The shower drains slowly. The breakfast hostess was very kind. Breakfast was delicious. I will not be back.

Charming place for an overnight stay.

Two gentlemen in restaurant were a delight for check-in although there’s no indication as to where to check in. We stayed in a double room with a shared bathroom. There were just a few other rooms taken so sharing was ok. The room we were in the TV didn’t work but we were there for the sights! Bed was comfortable and room was clean. Took a beer to our room after dinner to enjoy alone.
Rooms were on upper floor with stairs only. (For those that have difficulties with stairs, this is probably not the place to stay.)
We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and it was a traditional German family style seating lending itself to meeting people.
I’d stay here again.

Room was very basic. On suite was dirty with shower blocked. At 4 every morning, the church bells start to chime every fifteen minutes for every hour. There is no double glazing so the noise levels are unbearable with the church being right beside the hotel.

Mattresses/beds were okay, but pillows were pretty bad. It was pretty warm in the room and it would have been nice to have a sheet or light blanket instead of just the duvet, so I ended up taking the duvet out of its cover and just using the cover. Breakfast was a really good traditional German cold breakfast, lots of cold meats, fruits and good breads, and the breakfast room was very charming.

Not bad, reserve a room with a bathroom in it.

Beware, make sure you reserve a room with a bathroom, or you will have to use the community one, located in the hallway with the rest of the guests on the floor.(1shower,sink,and toilet for the whole floor to share) Otherwise, great location,easy to find, dinner was ok, but the breakfast was Superb! I had no other issues except the whole community bathroom /shower thing..

We all loved the charming ambience of the entire place and the staff's friendly and helpful demeanor. There is a church directly across the one lane street that rings its bells to call worshipers to service. Some may find that bothersome.

I just love this location—it’s picturesque! We booked a room for 3 & were pleasantly surprised to have a 2 bedroom apartment! It was very nice! The breakfast was good as well. Wish we could have stayed longer to try out the dining room and music.

Great location and very nice basic room. Beware of church bells...RIDICULOUS on a Sunday morning. They go off all night and on Sunday at 6am for 6 min straight and every half hour and hour. Recommend property but the bells are very INTENSE!

Charming guesthouse in scenic location

We had such a lovely stay at Gasthof zum Rassen! The building is on the main historical street street of Partenkirchen, so the area is lined with cute little inns. We loved this one best because of the great staff. Robert and Denis were so kind, helpful, and funny. They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The chef also make an AMAZING breakfast every single morning.

The building is beautifully painted in the traditonal Bavarian style. The area is also ideal. It’s about a 15-20 minute walk from the Garmisch train station, where you can also get the train to Zugspitze and other mountain hikes/lakes. This place is perfect for a long weekend or a full naturey hiking vacation. Would love to go back!

Room amenities were rather sparse, wi-fi was poor (though I understand that proprietor is upgrading system in 2018), BUT you can't beat the value. Restaurant (including complimentary breakfast) was superb, and location couldn't be any better if you want to be in the center of nightlife activity.

Horrible experience!!!!

Hotel style from the 70th and did not have any renovations since than. Pictures in hallway from 70th. Shower did not work and it was told to service personal they just shrugged in disbelief. Room number was #3, can easily be checked because I am quite confident shower still does not work at all. Breakfast included did not provide any serving utensils, so for a breakfast buffet it was quite unsanitary, to say the least. Will not recommend this hotel to anybody else and actually it is quite sad that Orbitz carries it amongst their list. Very disappointed at Orbitz.

Focus on the positives, not the one disappointment

After reading other reviews, we were a bit reluctant to book. We read about the loud church bells and not-so-friendly welcome. I'm so glad we decided to \"work around\" those two things, because our stay was wonderful. We got used to the bells and discovered that 99% of the staff was great--- especially Sobe who was there every morning/day.
The room was very clean and the price was unbeatable. We really enjoyed the traditional attached restaurant and plentiful and fresh free breakfasts. We extended our stay and will be back, hopefully. Thank you!

Passing thru Garmisch

Stayed for just one night recently. The outside of the hotel is very cute and traditional German style. Also the restaraunt was great. But they seemed to forget about the bedrooms...( ours anyway) it was missing that style, everything was white and bland-walls, bed covering, dont think there was even a picture on the wall. TV was TINY and in the wrong place to even see it from the beds. WIFI did not work the entire time we were there. So, with no WIFI and no TV it would have been boring for longer than one night. And there was only ONE shower for the entire floor, (two toilet rooms available). Definitely a no-frills place. But location was great, lots of restaraunts etc right on the same street.

Horrible. They added Extra taxes on to the room even tho they were supposed to be included in the price. The room had no towels or toiletries like advertised on here. They charge for any extra commodity. The sheets were dirty, and our closet to put or clothes in was broke and has yet to be fixed. They also advertise wifi on here but they have one ethernet cable randomly on each floor.

Noisy place to try to sleep.

The noise from church across the street makes it difficult to sleep. The bells ring not only on the hour and half hour but rings 40-50 times on the hour, even at one, two and three am in the morning. No cup in rest room form brushing teeth. Only get minimal towels for use and old and worn out. Have to ask for hair dryer as not kept in the room.

Decide what you want to be

Are you a hotel or a restaraunt? We showed up and walked through the restraunt at 1600 without even recieving a single question if we could be helped, Finally I got the waitress to help us check in. Nice room with a private bath. Food was good at dinner as well. Waitress seemed iritated that we didn't speak Gernan and was quite short with us. Having lived in Germany for two years now, most establishments that are tourist based are understanding of visitors language barriers. My German is terrible and she seemed irrittated I even bothered trying. Be warned that the church across the street goes all out at 0600 with the bells. If you are a late sleeper, this could be an issue. The last straw for me was at checkout. I made a reservation with a credit card. Nowhere did it say I would be told to walk down the street to a bank and get a cash advance because they don't accept credit cards for payment of the stay. Oddly they accepted it at dinner the night before. I was half tempted to just walk and have them bill the card they had on file from my reservation. If you don't take credit card (even though I used it for dinner at the same place the night before), post it.

My husband and I stayed at the Gasthof zum Rassen for a week over the holidays and we were not impressed. The employees were rude to us (e.g. we sat at our table in the restaurant for nearly 30 minutes without being helped when they knew we were waiting). Our room was picked up daily but not ever really cleaned - when our towels were placed on the bathroom floor to be changed we found the same ones hung up again. We enjoyed the spacious room which is often rare when traveling in Europe, but it was very cold. Because it would take so long for the room to heat up, we'd leave the heat on in the afternoon, but would always return to have it turned all the way off. One girl was nice enough to do our laundry for us (we'd been traveling for several weeks) for a fee of 5 euros (about $7.50) per machine per load but then insisted on shoving what should have been 2 loads into one machine. Our laundry was returned to us over 12 hours later in one huge extremely wrinkled wad and we were charged for 4 machines (2 washers, 2 dryers); this happened twice, for a total of $60 to do 2 loads of laundry. We were denied a detailed bill and when we tried to discuss the bill, they suddenly forgot how to speak English. So...no, we would not stay again though we had a wonderful time in Garmisch despite the inhospitable \"gasthof\".

Typisk Bayern-hotel med god service.

Det er et typisk Bayern-hotel mht. stilen. Mellemklassehotel. Alt i fyrretræ, sengelinned i farve og mønster som man kan forestille sig et sådant sted - og gennemført. Nyrenoveret badeværelse. God mad og fin morgenmad. Beliggenheden er fin - midt i byen - og de har et serveringssted lige udenfor døren og lige på den anden side af gaden. Et nærliggende P-Hus - 5 Euro pr. døgn - meget billigt. Et hotel vi let kunne finde på at besøge igen.

Vrij gehorig. Hotel zit tegenover een kerk die elk kwartier de bel laat gaan. Ook hoor je iedereen over de gang lopen. Daarnaast zat onze kamer boven de plek waar het personeel rookt dus hadden we ook een heerlijke (sarcastisch) geur in onze kamer.

Udsigten fra værelset var fantastisk, morgenmaden var ok, rengøringen på værelset var fin, i restauranten var der dog klistret og mange fluer, vi gik og fandt et andet sted at spise aftensmad. Badeværelset var pænere end anvendeligt.

Kommunikation im Vorfeld unserer Anreise etwas schwierig, allerdings dann netter Empfang. Saubere Zimmer und Badezimmer. Ja, die Kirchenglocken sind laut und direkt nebenan, aber es gibt ja Ohropax.

Allerdings: Würde ich einen Aufenthalt im Rassen empfehlen? Auf gar keinen Fall. Es liegen überall Compact-Zeitschriften aus, ein höchst populistisches Magazin am rechten Rand des Spektrums mit teils explizit rechtsradikalen Inhalten. Auch wenn der Aufenthalt für die Hauptsaison im Touristengebiet preiswert war, lieber etwas mehr Geld ausgeben und Hoteliers mit weltoffeneren Anschauungen unterstützen.

Ganz ganz schlechtes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis

Wer nicht durch die laute Kirchenglocken geweckt wird, wird spätestens um 6:30 von lauter Radiomusik geweckt, die aus dem Speisesaal nach oben dröhnt. Selten so schlecht geschlafen.
Das \"King-Bed\" waren einfach zwei zusammengeschobene dünne Matratzen auf alten Gestellen. Generell ist die Ausstattung in die Jahre gekommen und entspricht in dieser Preisklasse (> 90 EUR pro Nacht für ein Zimmer mit Shared Bathroom) einfach nicht mehr dem Standard, den man erwarten kann. Dazu kommt, dass das WLAN im Zimmer so schwach ist, dass es quasi nicht vorhanden ist.
Fazit: für 40-50 EUR pro Nacht wäre das alles ok, über 90 EUR ist definitiv zu viel.

Komme gerne wieder!

Für unseren Zweck war die Unterkunft genau passend! Das Zimmer war groß, das Bett angenehm das Gemeinschaftsbad am Gang ok. Das Frühstück hat auch alle Geschmäcker abgedeckt! Zentral gelegen, Bushaltestelle gleich dahinter. Parkmöglichkeit auch vorhanden.

Der var kun kold vand i bruseren, ingen WIFI-signal på værelset, hotellet kunne ikke tilbyde et kort over området, der er ingen varm morgenmad og samtidig var vi tæt på at betale dobbelt, da personalet mente at vi ikke havde betalt. Alt i alt så er hotellet for dyrt i forhold til, hvad man får ud af det.

Trivelig, tradisjonelt gjestehus/hotell med relativt nyoppusset rom/leilighet. Veldig dårlig mottakelse, men for øvrig hyggelig opphold. Hyggelig strøk og sentral plassering i Partenkirchen, men nærmeste nabo til kirken med kraftige klokker. Flott frokost!

Hintaansa nähden ihan kelpo. Vieressä olevan kirkon kellot huolehtivat herätyksestä kuudelta. Aamiainen hyvä, mutta ravintola-annokset baijerilaisittain rasvaa ja etkkaa. Pysäköinti vitosella julkisessa parkkihallissa hotellin takana.

Leider entspricht das gesamte Hotel nicht dem Eindruck, den es auf der Website und von draußen erweckt! Das Check in war ehr unfreundlich und der Mitarbeiter wenig hilfsbereit. Auf die Frage, was man zu der Zugspitzbahn wissen sollte, antwortete er: woher soll ich das wissen?!? Sie wollen doch darauf!
In unserem Zimmer gab es einen Kühlschrank, der nicht angeschlossen war und in dem eine offene Dose Fisch vor sich hin gammelte, ein Becher Milch und anderes mehr... Fotos liegen bei Bedarf vor!
Das Frühstück war reichlich aber lieblos und der gleiche unfreundliche Kellner muffelte vor sich her! Einem Traditionshaus in bester Lage unwürdig!
