We stayed in one of the lakeside rooms which had a beautiful view. Room was slightly cold because of this but reception did provide us with an extra heater.
It was my husbands birthday so they provided a gift and prosecco which was lovely. Food was great, lovely staff and clean hotel. Book ahead for the spa to avoid disappointment.

I was extremely disappointed with my recent stay at the hotel.

Upon arrival, it was immediately apparent that the property was understaffed, resulting in lengthy queues at check-in. The overall organisation felt disjointed and chaotic from the outset, which set a negative tone for the stay.

Dining options were very limited. Only one restaurant was available for dinner, operating on reduced hours, and we were unable to secure a table during our stay. This is not what one would expect from a hotel of this size and standard. Furthermore, there was only one electric vehicle charging point on site, which was unfortunately out of order.

The swimming pool arrangements were also disappointing. Access was restricted, and guests were required to pay an additional £10 per person to use the facility — a charge that is highly unusual and felt unreasonable given the overall experience.

The room itself was dated and in need of maintenance. The bathroom appeared tired, with rusty taps, deteriorating grout, and non-functioning shampoo dispensers. No conditioner or basic amenities were provided. The room was very minimal and lacked attention to detail. Cleanliness was also a concern; the extractor fan was covered in mould and dust, and overall housekeeping standards appeared insufficient.

In addition, the rooms are not soundproofed, and we could clearly hear noise from neighbouring rooms, which significantly affected comfort and privacy. The double bed was small and dated; a king-size bed

Room was lovely and looked recently refurbished however the bathroom was tired - lots of limescale, loose tiles on the wall, peeling silverware.
Staff were warm, welcoming and friendly.
Breakfast was plentiful and couldnt be faltered.
The worst part of our stay was the paperthin walls - on one side someone had snuck their dog onto a dog free floor and the said dog barked everytime someone walked past the room this went on until 2am. On the other side were 2 drunken guests who had no volume control when talking, and whose limited vocab meant every sentence contained the f word, this went on until 4am. Sadly not exactly the romantic night away we had planned.

We had to cancel our stay at De Vere Cotswold Water Park due to a genuine family emergency and provided two days’ notice. We weren’t asking for a refund — only the option to reschedule, even if it meant paying an additional fee. Unfortunately, the hotel refused outright and retained the full payment.
I understand cancellation policies exist, but good hospitality should allow for some discretion and humanity, particularly in quieter periods like February. The complete lack of flexibility felt unnecessarily rigid and quite disappointing.
Sadly, this experience has left us feeling that guest circumstances are not treated with much compassion, and on principle, we would not choose to stay here in the future on principal .

I booked this hotel as it had come highly recommended. I'm leaving wondering why?!

Upon check in Chloe initially ignored myself and my husband having looked me in the eye, looked down and continued a conversation with her colleague; then decided to abruptly check us in. She was cold, unwelcoming and immediately as she took one look at us treated us according to that! Euan was there who in our opinion saved the day, as I'd would have checked out there and then!!

Lucie was very kind and helpful too.

The above were put directly next door to us in room 318; the ENTIRE floor was empty so staff, I think deliberately put these uncouth, loud, aggressive and extremely disrespectful people next to us knowing what would ensue!!!

I called reception around 1:30am spoke to james who was himself helpful at the start, but quickly became combative; talking over me, and dismissed me.

I told him I had been woken up by these uncouth lot next door quite a few time!!!

james Duty Mng was very rude, talked over me the entire time and refused to let me speak or get my point across on three separate occasions!!!

john was also unhelpful by not asking if I'd like help moving my luggage! He then lied when I'd asked him if he'd mind helping me, saying he'd asked Mr if I needed help when he hadn't!!!

I'm angry disgusted and would like a refund as my ENTIRE HONEYMOON has been ruined!!!!

This is a lovely hotel. It's well placed for a visit to the Cotswolds. There is a large car park, check in was easy and our room was so nice, overlooking the lake. Breakfast was good, a self service buffet with lots of options. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We've stayed here several times and it never disappoints!

I’m not sure what to call the “room” we were given. Room feels generous. It was more like a makeshift hideout tucked into the eaves of the building — cramped, dark, and honestly comparable to a prison cell… though to be fair, most cells probably get more natural light.

Things went further downhill at dinner. I ordered a vegetarian meal and was served a dish containing more chicken breast than a Nando’s family platter. We complained, they whisked it away, and proudly returned with a “fresh” vegetarian dish — except they’d literally just picked the chicken out and forgotten a bit. Cue round two of “spot the bird.” After pointing it out again, the plate mysteriously reappeared minus the final piece of chicken. Magical.

This was, without question, the worst experience we’ve ever had at a De Vere hotel. And the saddest part? This was our fifth visit. We used to love this place. But after the prison loft and the chicken salad that refused to die, it’s safe to say this will likely be our last.

Well well well, the De Vere. A hotel so scenic it felt like I was walking through Middle-Earth on the hunt for a flat white. Rolling hills, whispering trees, and my cocker spaniel leading the charge like Aragorn with a tennis ball. Genuinely stunning — the kind of place you could propose marriage, bury a body, or both depending on how brunch goes.

The grounds were biblical. If you told me God himself had done the landscaping I’d believe you. My dog was in his element, sniffing every leaf like it had been scented with royal jelly. I half expected woodland creatures to burst into song and form a choir around us. It was like taking the hobbits to Isengard, except the hobbits were middle-class dog owners and the only thing getting destroyed was a ham and cheese panini.

The hotel itself? Cracking. Comfy beds, nice bar, the odd whiff of faded grandeur. Like a posh aunt who drinks before noon and once had a fling with a minor royal.

But let’s get into the meat and bones, shall we? Sunday afternoon at the bar — enter stage left: Miserable Man in the Blazer. This guy took our drinks order with all the enthusiasm of a slug with a hangover. Grunted at us like a warthog sniffing for apples under a log, barely made eye contact, and shuffled off like he was being forced at gunpoint to serve the general public. He looked managerial too, the sort of bloke who probably has “People Skills” on his LinkedIn, but in reality has all the charisma of a burnt crumpet.

The room felt pretty basic and parts of the hotel are a bit tired. It was clean. Staff were ok, not much to say, did their job and not much else. Maybe because it is such a busy place.
Car parking was ok, too. Location is great.

Fine for a top for the night but quite tired room and needs modernising. No central light in room so quite dark. Bathroom fixtures stained and shower head position meant water went on floor. Bathroom shampoo/shower gel distributor was not working - reported to reception after first night but nothing changed. No plugs next to bed for charging phones. Bed reasonably comfortable and breakfast was good though.

Cheap room rate, very comfortable large room, great bed, but shockingly bad room service. £19 for a pizza that tasted like cardboard (a supermarket pizza would’ve been much better) and £10 for bizarrely inedible Ben & Jerry’s — I don’t even understand what they did to it to result in several inches of solid yellow ice on the top.

The next morning I went down to the breakfast buffet and took my coffee outside to look at the pretty view for a minute. I then turned around and found all the doors locked, and the staff person who one minute earlier had welcomed me to breakfast let me back in and told me off: “You’re not supposed to come in this way”. I’d just walked out through the same doors one minute ago — really weird.

Basically, don’t attempt to eat here!

Everything as it should be in the room. However……anyone could have walked into the block where my room was. No security lock/keypad on the front entrance. Only screw holes where there had once been one I’m assuming. Major worry as the lighting outside not great either. This needs to be sorted as a matter of urgency. If there had been a security rating I would have given zero. The corridor carpet also very grubby. Fantastic staff all very friendly and helpful.

Very busy hotel but the staff coped very well BUT we were in a room a long way from the main reception and restaurants. Coming out in the dark after eating there was no lighting working and was missing in places meaning we had to feel our way back to our room. Being in the countryside it was pitch black. I cannot believe that this hasn’t been pointed out to De Vere before and they haven’t done anything about it.

Rooms are very tired and outdate like from the late 1990's or early 2000's. The bed was uncomfortable and it seemed like they put a king mattress on a double-bed base. There was dust and stains all over the carpets, the walls had dents in them, the bathroom weren't cleaned well. There's no fridge in rooms. The 'laundered' bedsheets had hairs on them too.

Cleaning lady walked in at 9am while I was sleeping. There's no 'do not disturb sign', just a 'no service needed today' sign. We wanted the room serviced however we also didn't want to be disturbed, so what are we expected to put? At 9am on a Saturday morning the cleaner decided to knock on the door for cleaning and then walk into the room. Not her fault as the signs as equally as useless for her but not pleasant when I'm still in bed.

The Spa6 staff act friendly but are actually quite rude. Firstly which spa hotel makes their travellers pay extra to use the swimming facilities. It's absurd, if you don't book a spa treatment, you had to pay £10 to use the pool for an hour. The pool had around 5 people in there (per CCTV footage on their screen) yet when I asked why we can't go in they said they were at capacity in quite a rude manner. Not a very relaxing first encounter.

There's no hot tub, it's just a few jets in the swimming pool.

It's ridiculous, they really should be downgraded from a \"4 star\" hotel to a 2/3 star. It's basically equivalent to a Travelodge with a chargeable pool and bigger rooms.

Spa was very good and food, especially breakfast was fantastic. However, the room was dated and there were no lights in the main bit so when the curtains were closed the two bedside lamps didn’t offer much light so it was very very dark. No bedroom lamps on the desk or over the chair or over head lamps which was very strange. Also the bar area was a bit impersonal in the evening.

Staff were helpful, however when attending for breakfast I was told ‘it’s closing’ rather than just offered a seat, when breakfast was due to be open for another hour.

We then also had a small bite in the lounge area the next day, and the food took nearly 40mins.

We used the spa facilities, and these are always great.

The room was comfy and just as we would expect.
It’s the second time we have stayed, and would go back again.

This is definitely a conference hotel and with over 400 rooms can get busy and noisy. Food average in the evening - Breakfast very good but you are left to your own devices to work out where everything is. Avoid rooms 102 & 104 which are directly outside the public bathrooms so all you can hear are the hand dryers at all times of the day. These rooms are also for physically disadvantaged - the bathrooms could do with more tlc.
