The staff, location and breakfast was very good. The bed was not comfortable at all. The weather was very hot and the room was not prepared for that. We couldn't open the window as it was a first floor and was noisy outside.

Charming hotel in the center of Cirencester with friendly staff. Rooms are on the small side but have everything you need. Note that there is no A/C but there was a fan in my room that kept things pleasantly cool. There is no lift so rooms may not be accessible for everyone (but they can help you carry your suitcases to the room). The bathroom has lovely amenities (White Linen) but be careful getting into/out of the tub as it can be slippery. Breakfast is available in the dining room with multiple tasty hot options and a nice cold buffet with cereal, juice, yogurt, fruit and pastries. Coffee & tea are also available in the rooms. (I suggest making coffee in your room since the coffee served in the dining room is mediocre; this was really the only negative of the stay). We had dinner one night in the pub/restaurant and it was very good with plentiful vegetarian options.

With the hotel sprawling over three houses of different builds and levels there is plenty of character and to get to our room no.14 meant crossing all three houses and manoeuvring over 25 steps, some up, and then a few down again, but it was great fun, and this reviewer is 80.

We were expecting a great experience, as it said it was a five star hotel on Expedia. It definitely did not feel like a 5 star hotel. The check in staff was rude, the sheets & pillows had stains & tears and it was very loud in our room from the restaurant downstairs as well as from other rooms. We would stay elsewhere if we visit Cirencester again.

Unfortunate room problem
Unfortunately luxury king bed room we had booked had problems with heating and the hot water so it was too cold to stay in, so we had to be downgraded to a compact double room, nice and warm by comparison, but the bathroom was through a door and down a few steps somewhat of an inconvenience by choice, evening meal although was lovely and plenty of choice for breakfast all cooked superbly so overall not a complete disaster

Both restaurant and bar staff needed more training ( they were not familiar with names of drinks or liquor coffees.
3 main courses were not available on the evening we stayed and we were not advised of this untill after having made our choice, so it was very disappointing as this was meant to be a special occasion plus there was very little to choose from, so bad communication amongst staff.

A two night stay in a wonderful traditional country town hotel. The staff were uniformly friendly and helpful at all times. The food was excellent. In fact, though we had planned to eat elsewhere on our second night we ate in the Fleece again. Would not hesitate to reccomend the Fleece or to stay there again if we are in the area.

Excellent location just wanted to get away for a long weekend. I can only say the staff make this hotel. They have gone above and beyond for us. So friendly especially the lovely waitress who bought us some honey and lemon drink as we were suffering with bad coughs. We would definitely come back and a quick mention to the manager who gave us directions to some beautiful villages and a great pub the Wheatsheaf. Food is outstanding and the atmosphere warm and friendly. We had a very comfortable stay thank you so much

From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble for the staff - that includes all departments, always pleasant, friendly and professional - all done with a smile. We were lucky with the parking and arrived early so there wasn't a problem to find a spot although there is limited area at the back of the hotel. Warm welcome ,our room was on the first floor - room 2 - it was ok, good size, well decorated with small bathroom -the only real
negative was that it was a bit dark and even though there were 2 chairs to sit ,they weren't really that comfy to relax and watch the tv - we were staying for 2 days over xmas.

We had a drink in the bar the first night and the staff were attentive and it was a great cosy atmosphere.
Breakfast the next morning was just what the doctored ordered. The yoghurt and granola was delicious.
The second evening we had the sharing ploughmans with some chunky chips, just enough to keep us going.
The only issued we could say is the service for breakfast on the Sunday was extremely slow with people being served first who came in later and the muffin for the eggs benedict was tough, as though it has been frozen and defrosted in a microwave.
But this did not detract from a great hotel.

Good food, large room, v comfortable bed, nice staff. In. our room ('deluxe') the bathroom was a bit disappointing. the floor needed refreshing, but most seriously the shower was a hazard. The floor when wet and soapy was v slippery, and the bath mat only covered about a third of it. That needs attention before someone is hurt.

Air conditioner needed in the bedrooms. We could not sleep because the room was so hot. The windows would only open a tiny amount and the wee fan could not cope. very expensive for very poor level of comfort. NEVER AGAIN.

We were lucky, we had an upgrade into a beautiful room on the first floor, very comfortable and clean. Lots of stairs so request a lower level if you struggle with stairs and have large baggage. Lovely breakfast and excellent pub for dining. There were a few parks on site but also a large paid parking site very near, free after 6pm. Staff were lovely.

Arrived at hotel. Staff were friendly and helpfull. Staff explained hotel car park was full (only small car park) but a long stay car park at the rear of hotel had plenty of spces. This wasnt an issue as we could unload our bag at the hotel and the park the car (2 minute walk away). Room was clean as was all hotel facilities. We ate dinner there that evening and it was beautiful. Even woke up to a racing post outside our door ( we were staying for the cheltenham festival) this was a really nice touch i thought. Located near all shops/bars and restaurants. Overall 5 stars would recommend and would stay again.

.On the spur Of the moment decision to stay in Cirencester on Way back from Manchester to london. Read the excellent reviews and decided to book. Would highly recommend.Our room was very comfortable with lots of amenities and a lovely rolltop bath.Staff were really friendly and helpful.

Just had 2 of the worst nights I have ever experienced. Firstly the hotel is no where near a 5 star, the room was covered in thick dust and cobwebs, there was stains on the sheets and food splattered up the headboard.
The breakfast was mediocre at best, and the walls were also splattered with food. The room was boiling hot, even for a chilly October evening so had the windows open to listen to some sort of air conditioning unit (not sure what it was) humming like a waiting truck all night.
Worst was the 2nd night, we were woken up at 3:30am from staff handing out of a window smoking and listening to music, complaining about someone complaining. There conversation echoed around the small courtyard and their constant trips back to the bar for drinkand past our door was concerning. This went on for over 2 hours… when we tried to speak to the concierge in the morning, we was laughed at and told if we wanted to complain there we’re no managers there this week. And if we wanted to check out late there would be a charge.
As a pregnant lady hoping for a relaxing few days away I would say… STAY ASAY ST ALL COSTS. I was pining to stay in the kings head opposite that was fully booked !

The only downside were the thin walls where we could hear the person next door snoring and because we were at the front of the building it was quite noisy so we did not get a huge amount of sleep. We had to buy ear plugs to get some sleep. Bed was also not the most comfortable.
