A lovely B&B

The view from our terrace room was across the green and rolling hills, with scattered sheep and a few stone farm house. Very pleasant. The room was spacious. The bed was very comfortable and the temperature in the room just right. The breakfast Jeanina cooked was excellent. The B&B host went out of his way to get us to and from a working bus stop since the road was closed and buses not going through the village. So super helpful.

Give it a miss!

Difficulty parking on arrival. Had to park between a works lorry which moved to one side for us and a fork lift.
Room small, poorly furnished, one drawer in room, half size wardrobe containing an electric box hung on wire. No tea or coffee facilities in room. ‘Private’ bathroom along landing. Very small old tv with screen held in place by room fan. Remove shoes at outer door. Twin beds comfy. Breakfast ok. We only stayed for the one night, having booked for 3 nights, but was still charged the full 3 night’s rate of £360. Hosts words were “loads of people ask me to reduce the price, but I don’t do that”. It wasn’t just our opinions then? Very disappointing. Avoid at all costs.

The Tibbiwell Lodge is run in a way that shows why they love what they do. The place is adorable, clean, exactly as pictures show but actually better, and the hosts are amazing - friendly, accommodating, and extremely hospitable. The grounds are amidst the beauty of the entire village and surroundings! I would highly recommend this place to anyone and I would love to go back one day!

I stayed in the twin room, at the back of the property, which at £100 per night, was overpriced, in my opinion.

The room is not en-suite, although I had sole use of a bathroom in the hallway. There are no coffee/tea making facilities in the room (they exist but are downstairs, in the dining room). There was also no drinking water or a glass in the room. The beds are ok but obviously singles.

The breakfast was nice.

The property is set back from the road with just a sign saying ‘B&B’ at the turning, rather than the name of the B&B. Easy to miss.

This was our first short break, since the start of the first lockdown and we could not have wished for a better place to stay.
The Lodge is set in a beautiful location, a stones throw from the centre of Painswick, with great views across the valley.
We were warmly welcomed by Richard and he used his local knowledge to help with a couple of questions that we had - places to see, where to eat etc.

The accommodation was clean and tidy and the staff were friendly and helpful. Food was lovely. The only down side was the accessibility as most of the backstreets in Painswick are very narrow and the lane in which it located is steep. So great care is needed when driving to and from the property. However you will be guaranteed a great value for money stay when you arrive.

This is a lovely Bed and Breakfast and the hosts are very welcoming. Set in a village steeped with history that sadly as i was there for work didnt have the time to really take in all the sights

The room i stayed in had a nice little balcony which ovetlooked the surrounding countryside. The only downfall is there are no tea_coffee making facilities in the rooms, you have to go down to the dining room and make a drink there. As i am a very early riser this was a little inconvenient

Not a quiet stay

The b&b is fine but it’s really like staying in a room in someone’s house. I booked the double room with the balcony. As the reviews suggested the balcony was lovey and overlooks green hills. I sat out on the balcony in the late afternoon but there are two very small children living at the b & b that screamed and yelled the whole time. So it was anything but peaceful as the children were right under the balcony. At breakfast the children were once again yelling and screaming. But thankfully it was quiet overnight. So if a peaceful break in the Cotswolds is what you are after this is not the place to stay. But the young woman working there is lovely and seems to do everything at the b& b. So there wasn’t anyone around when my tv wasn’t working in the evening which was disappointing as I had been hiking for many hours and days and just wanted to lie in bed and watch tv before sleeping. But otherwise the b&b is in a great location and very clean and the dogs lovely.

We visited family so we know the area but this was the first time in Painswick, lovely village, I wasn't prepared for the tiny road to the lodge, Very steep hills & Narrow but we soon got used to them. Tibbiwell Lodge was lovely, perfect for pet owners. Our dog Wilson was very welcome as were we. Breakfast was made fresh everyday. What we liked most was we could come and go as we pleased. We would stay here again

Exploring the Cotswolds

Lovely welcome upon arrival. Owners were very friendly and knolwedgable about local area and things to see and do. Nothing was too much trouble. The property was not obviously visible from the road so a little tricky to find but we thought this added to its character rather than it being a negative point. Beatuiful views of the surrounding countryside and the village itself was lovely. A great base from which to explore the Cotswold area, nearby cities and attractions.

This B&B is very pet friendly and I wouldn't recommend it if you are not fond of dogs. Whilst the owners' dogs were well behaved, there was also a guest's dog around the breakfast table.

Lovely short stay in the Cotswolds

We stayed at the Tibbiwell Lodge for one night last weekend, when we came to visit friends in Stroud. We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived and were shown to the Balcony Room and had breakfast arrangements explained. As we arrived on Sunday afternoon, Jenina gave us her recommendations of where to eat in Painswick, as some of the restaurants/pubs were closed. The guest house is a 5 min walk up the hill to the village, so is very easy to explore.

The Balcony Room has some very pretty views. It was a good size for my wife, five year old son and me, clean and comfortable with an en-suite bathroom. I found the double bed a little bit soft and thought I was going to roll out of it a few times, but had a good night's sleep.

The breakfasts are absolutely great - the full English breakfast is cooked to order (you have to fill out your choices the night before), plus there are cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc. to choose from and very good fresh coffee.

Jenina (and their two lovely dogs) made us feel very welcome - especially our son, who chattered away all the time and wanted to explore the rest of the house!

The entrance to the guest house is a bit tucked away and quite narrow (as are all the roads in and around the village, for us out of towners anyway! The parking sensors kept bleeping like crazy once we turned off the main road!)

We would definitely stay here again if coming back to the Cotswolds!

We stayed in the twin room which hasn’t got the wow factor of Balcony and Terrace Rooms which have balconies. The twin room hasn’t a balcony and the private bathroom is not ensuite but bath robes are provided. It is in a quiet setting (church bells couldn’t be heard!) with parking and received a wonderful welcome. The breakfast was excellent! We ate at The Falcon Inn both evenings as it was so good and cool in very hot weather. Will certainly return if we meet up with our friends again.

We were in the terrace room, large, ultramodern bath, and a terrace large enough for table and chairs, and a gorgeous view of the valley and villages across the way. We didn't see much of our host, but the person who really ran the place, Genina, was fabulous. She did our laundry; she made coffee early each morning; she had great information and was readily willing to share. Highly recommended,

We booked 3 nights here for the Terrace room through hotels.com. On arrival, no record of our PAID reservation. Not on the books. We were then placed in the studio apartment, we were told it was an upgrade. Well, I have never been upgraded anywhere, and this was NOT an upgrade. The room smelt of damp, the floor was dirty, I could no bear to walk bare foot, the bathroom left a lot to be desired, black and mouldy and very bad smell of damp. Our towels were so worn out, thin and grey. I assume they were the dogs towels...yuck. The linen on the bed smelt and looked old. We spent the whole night scratching, no sleep at all. No hot water for first shower...was only Luke warm. At breakfast my husband said something about the scratching we endured all night. It was then that they cleaned down our room, changed the linen, and gave us decent towels. The smell remained. We went out and bought a huge can of dettol spray discenfectant and sprayed the bed, old yellow pillows and linen, could no bear another night like the one we had. We had a better sleep, but still bad damp smell throughout the unit. If you like dogs roaming about, then this is for you, they are constantly near you, with their soggy smell. I do not mind animals but not in the house, or at breakfast.
On a good note, the breakfast was good.

When we arrived at the B&B after walking the Cotswold Way all day, we received a warm welcome from the Tibbiwell staff. We had one hiccup when we realized that our Canadian interpretation of a \"private\" bathroom did not mean the same here - the bathroom for the twin room is actually located in the hall. However, owner Richard quickly offered to switch us to the balcony room which has a double bed plus a single bed, and does have an ensuite bathroom - we were very grateful as we never intentionally book a room without ensuite bathroom. We very much enjoyed relaxing on our balcony in the sun as we were taking a day off from walking. This B&B has much to recommend it, including good location (quiet but close to everything), very nice owner and staff, clean, two charming and friendly dogs, and a good quality standard English breakfast. The only reason we don't give full five stars is that we always think it's better if people don't have unreal expectations - the Tibbiwell rooms are comfortable but they aren't fancy, and also there doesn't appear to be a lot of soundproofing, which would only be a problem if there were inconsiderate other guests. On the nights we stayed there, all was quiet by 9:00 pm. This B&B is good value for money and we would recommend it to anyone looking for accommodation that feels like a home.

Handy for the train station.

This was the friendliest B &B we stayed in during our eight day walk along the Cotswold Way. It was lovely to be greeted by tea and biscuits as we arrived quite tired from our hike. It was a long way from the track but it is very handy if you are arriving in Cheltenam by train.

We received a very warm welcome to Tibbiwell Lodge and our room was very welcome after a good walk on the Cotswold Way. The excellent breakfast set us up so well for the longer walk next day. The location is perfect and we both recommend the Balcony Room in particular. The friendly dogs are a nice bonus.

Home away from home

Great welcome received when finally found the place. Comfortable bed and enjoyed the company of the Labradors at breakfast, they were well behaved and cute. Janine was a great host and nothing was too much for her. Breakfast was an experience not to be missed as it encouraged fellow travelers to exchange stories rather than sitting in total silence.

Good place to stay on the Cotswold Way

We liked our room very much - we had the balcony room, which had lovely views across the valley below Painswick. There was a table and chairs out there perfect for reading and relaxing with a cup of tea (if it hadn't been so rainy!). Our hosts were friendly and the breakfast was really good.

My only complaint in an otherwise lovely stay, was the household dogs. When we arrived we were asked to leave our hiking shoes in the hallway - perfectly normal along the Cotswold Way to keep the rooms clean. However one of the dogs was chewing on a plastic clog. Our host assured us it only chewed that particular shoe, but we came home later to find it chewing someone else's trainer. So we took off our shoes and carried them up to the room to keep them away from the dogs!
