The hotel and surroundinfs itself was beautiful! However we were extremely disappointed with the disruptive nights sleep. We could hear all noises made from the room above, hear the person in the room next door snoring all evening and also little things like holes in the towels. We wasn't asked about our stay on leaving and felt quite disregarded at this point.

Lovely building but everything has been cut to the bone with only the bare minimum provided. a) In short lack of heating, the radiator in the bedroom was less than luke warm (we asked and were told it was on a timer!)
b) lack of staff - one person it appeared had been designated on a Friday night to do reception, bar and serve drinks in the restaurant - which resulted in a lack of proper service being available c. a very annoying background intermittent humming noise in the room during the night (which we think my have been caused by the fridge in the room). Not impressed.

There was no on/off switch for the bathroom. When I called reception (about 9:30pm when we checked in) there was no answer. Breakfast was good and room tidy and well ventilated. Overall nice style older hotel with character.

Beautiful old building, grounds, canal access,great views & very friendly, cheerful staff, although at times clearly under pressure. Very good breakfast on both mornings. Accessible & good hot shower, comfortable beds.

Negatives:
We were in the family room, this involved going down & up 2 flights of stairs, with a very curious & dangerous configuration of steps at the top of the first flight, where you could not have both feet at the same level. However we found we could avoid this bit altogether, by going out through the front door, to access the second up flight. Then down 2 further flights of stairs, motion sensitive lighting not v good in bright daylight & difficult to see room number on arrival. We had known there would be a lot of stairs.

Room had a couple of things which were disappointing, but were immediately addressed by the staff. We did not mention the lack of natural light, the small window is opposite a brick wall, or the v. peculiar smell, which permeated our clothing, as the staff would not be able to do anything about this.
The room is not suitable for early or light sleepers, as it must be under a corridor, as quite sustained marching back & forth over the ceiling & opening of doors,early & late. All a bit disappointing as we were really looking forward to the stay.

I would definitely not recommend the room for anyone with mobility problems or impaired vision.

The staff were absolutely amazing all going above and beyond, the meals were fabulous and beautiful grounds to explore. There are a lot of stairs to navigate and I wish the windows had screens to keep insects out. For some reason my bathroom didn't have a ceiling fan so the room lacked air circulating which will unfortunately create moisture issues - hopefully this will be fixed.

First of all it looks amazing from out side, front and back. The inside doesn't dissapoint either. The bedrooms on the other hand are in the newer style annex but to a good standard. We had a campervan which was easy to park in the big carpark at the front.

Beautiful hotel and a wonderful stay overall! The property was lovely, and we really enjoyed our time here.

The only downsides were that the room was very hot and would have benefited from air conditioning, and at breakfast we weren’t told they had run out of beans before being served the full English. It would have been nice to have been informed beforehand, to have the chance to choose an alternative or appropriate substitute!

We wouldn’t return here. We stayed one night for a wedding and check in on Saturday went well. The outside of the building and the grounds were lovely. The accommodation section is not in keeping with the main hotel. The bed was rock hard so a very uncomfortable nights sleep. It was also warm with no air con or fan in the room. Breakfast was a disaster. We waited 15 minutes just to be seated, with several young staff stood around and only one older lady actually seating and taking orders. When asked, the young waiting staff had no idea about gluten free options. I ordered the GF full English which arrived without the sausages and toast. The waiter went to see where they had got to and returned a short while later with these items. The bread was stale and the sausages were still raw - stone cold and completely raw in the middle. The bacon, eggs and hash brown were all barely cooked and the baked beans had been sat under a hot plate so long the sauce had gone hard on the top. They clearly couldn’t cope with a full capacity of guests. We left without finishing and other guests left before their food even arrived. At £25 a head for breakfast it was terrible. Do not recommend and would not return

Lovely, oldy world hotel. However with this there are accessibility issues which weren't clear at booking. It was a nightmare lifting our pram up and down the stairs every day (to the furthest away room).
I contacted the hotel asking for a cot to be added to our room for our 6 month year old. They obliged, but on check in i was charged £20. I was not made aware of this at the time of asking. If i had I'd have brought our own!
Long wait for breakfast, and restaurant menu is not good value.
Rooms nice enough and building/grounds are beautiful. A walk along the canal is highly recommended.

It took forever to find the place bc it wasn’t pulling up correctly using their address. We used different map apps like Google Maps, Waze, car maps and all were taking us to a red light and saying arrived. When in fact the hotel was before the red light. The hotel once we arrived was beautiful outside. Had dinner reservations for 8 people at the hotel for 8pm. It took 2hrs before our meals were brought out. Then everyones meal was way over cooked and cost a small fortune. Rooms were a nice size but windows only opened a 1” or 2” inward so room was very hot. Even with the 2 very small fans they provide. Then on a few occasions there was no one at the reception desk so you are wondering around the hotel to find someone to help you. Overall I wouldn’t recommend it.

The room was very good, we stayed in the new rooms which were finished in 2024 and are very nice and comfortable. Check in was pretty slow though as was waiting for a table at breakfast. Breakfast was not great, not much choice at the buffet, and the cooked breakfast was very ordinary. 1 poached egg, 1 sausage... Has rationing been reintroduced?!

Stonehouse court hotel is a great place to stay. Keep in mind it’s an old building despite the new building it is still damp.
Breakfast is amazing, however evening dinner is sometimes hit and miss. Menu is expensive for the quality of the food.

There was no heating provided. We had booked one of the more expensive, luxurious room but couldn’t enjoy it as it was so cold. The staff were pleasant but quite condescending. I was promised the heating would come on but it never did. Being warm and cosy seems basic when booking a hotel bedroom.

This was a remarkable historic place to stay with so much architectural character in the old building. Just sitting in the bar having a drink by the huge historic fireplace was a wonderful experience! The grounds, walk to the canal and adjacent church were equally amazing. We also had a lovely dinner and breakfast but the building itself and grounds was a highlight of our 2 week visit to the Cotswolds!

Couldn’t fault the staff for friendliness or help but the room was tired and the shower came out over the edge of the cubicle so had to be mopped up with towels constantly
The bed was very hard
It really wasn’t as nice as the premier inn we stayed at the weekend before
The breakfast was not good either and very unorganised .. no hot plates no mushrooms and no advice given when we arrived as to order the eggs you wanted
Prefer a breakfast served and the toast had to be put through twice

Beautiful building and a lovely patio with tables and chairs and beautiful gardens with easy access to the footpath by the canal. There is a nice sitting room with a bar by the entrance. My room was quiet and clean, the bed was comfortable. Plenty of hot water for a bath. The only things that weren’t so great: my room was quite dark and the wifi didn’t work at all throughout my stay.

Room and breakfast were fine. The hotel is quite scruffy and could do with a lick of paint and new flooring. Staff were nice but inexperienced. Breakfast was standard 3*. However the restaurant is insanely overpriced and poor quality. The menu sounds good but every single dish disappointed. Between 4 of us we had a handful of nibbles and 4 mains, one drink each (2 soft) and the bill came to £190! The dishes looked good but were bland and lacking texture. For example the £24 salad had no dressing. Avoid the restaurant - much better options available in the village

Rooms clean and fresh with added touches which even more expensive hotels have stopped providing. Evening meal was great. Generally a nice hotel, with what would be a nice atmosphere. I think I was unlucky to book on the same night as quite a large Xmas party which over stretched the staff. When I got to the room, it was clean, however the bathroom needs a bit of a revamp, the hot tap was loose, shower had no temp gauge and was very inconsistent with the temperature.
Breakfast was very nice, and the morning staff had things a bit more under control. Nice early start on the breakfast which was appreciated for a business trip.

Stayed for a wedding and when booking online the price went up when paying on the day. The room was tiny, bed is only a double, certainly not big enough for 2 normal sized adults. The bathroom cleanliness wasn’t great, the shower leaked all over the floor. The bedroom windows were huge and opened into what is already a cramped room, so no room to move. The breakfast wasn’t great and for the price of £180 a night I was expecting a lot more.

The only complaint I have is the water pressure in the shower. The showers hardly function and need attention.

Parts of hotel were closed for refurbishment. Had dinner - but appeared as the restaurant was closed, and were shown to the hotel lounge/library
Food was below average- with the burger brioche bun served burnt /black!
Despite complaint was charged full price and service charge which was automatically added to final bill but was removed when challenged
Of note - we were the only people eating!! Poor experience and poor value

After climbing then ascending several stairs to the ground floor we followed the corridor round to look for the rooms. When we reached the garden extension it was a maze of steps up and down. I found our room number 30 and expected my sisters to be next door as requested but that was not the case and they were down and up several sets of stairs and on another level, not ideal again but I could see that the room number layout would not allow us to be together. Pity this was not explained when the booking was made, and we asked for rooms next to each other which we were told would be possible.
We eventually struggled with the luggage to the rooms to unpack and were not offered any assistance.
•There were loads of paint scratches on the entrance room door and inside all the skirting boards were heavily scratched and dirty.
•The curtains were falling off the tracks
•The windowsills were lifting in two places
•There was no decent light over a mirror for me to either dry my hair or do makeup
•No decent light over the bathroom mirror
•There was no separate armchair as shown in the photographs of the hotel
•No bathtub as listed on hotels com
•Cobwebs with spider on bathroom window
•During the week after using the towels they were hard and scratchy
I felt the food was adequate but very overpriced for what we received.
What really bothered me was that the table was sticky.
Inside the hotel was shabby with scratched paint on all the doors. Hotel needs a major upgrade

Great stay for a family wedding

I stayed for two nights for a family wedding. The hotel is so lovely with lots of character. Every member of stay was extremely friendly and very courteous. The food was lovely and the breakfast was plentiful. The grounds are really well kept and pretty. There is a lovely walk by a nearby canal. The only thing that prevented me from giving top marks was that the furniture in my room needs updating and there are no sockets beside the bed. The bed itself felt as if I was sleeping on a cloud. A great sleep!

Lovely looking old manor house with mostly friendly staff to assist us in enjoying our stay. We were on the top floor and had to negotiate many stairs to reach our room as no lift. Unfortunately, we were at the front of the property overlooking the car park and a busy main road. We were woken very early each morning with a laundry delivery, noisy residents and sirens. Probably better if you are located in the newer garden suite at the rear of the house. Double glazing could’ve reduced the outdoor noise. For someone who’s not bothered with TV particularly when I’m away, I was appalled to see a huge TV placed in a prime position at the end of the bed in the centre of the room. Decor was pleasant throughout with a beautiful large bath although the shower is a very tight fit. I like the efforts to stay green with a choice of reduced room make ups in exchange for drinks vouchers, a lovely touch.
Was quite disappointed with breakfast choices as I don’t eat traditional English. Overall, it was a comfortable stay for a couple of nights but I wouldn’t return.

A real shame. Such a beautiful property but it let itself down so much. The bedroom looked so beautiful, yet the bed was an old spring mattress over baseboard, so it was horribly uncomfortable and was located underneath a corridor, so once staff started moving round from 7am I was wide awake (after arriving at 1am). The staff seemed barely willing to do the job required at times, let alone go above and beyond to make people's stays special. Certainly not worth the money we spent

The tray and table with the coffee and tea making facilities were not properly cleaned, the tassimo machine was not working, they never managed to make it work. They offered us acoffee from the bar though. There was a suitcase left in our room. The shower rail was broken and a used soap was left in the shower. The bathroom windows were mouldy.
The breakfat buffet was messy and nearly empty (we arrived at 9.00). No beans,very little orange juice, bread was nearly gone, so the sausages.
The table was sticky, the side plate and my cup were both not clean.
Nobody was wearing masks, no hand sanitiser, an open buffet where people touched everything.

We had a pleasant stay, nice breakfast and comfortable, clean room.

What wasn't satisfactory was the delay for a room. I had 2 emails from Hotels.com. One saying check-in was 1400 and the other 1500 so thought it safe to arrive at 1620 but there was no room available until 1720 - over 3 hours after the recommended check-in time.

We were told this was due to staff shortages. Staff were polite and we had a complimentary drink while waiting with other guests for their rooms.

No fault of the staff but this review would not be accurate if this matter was not mentioned.

I would stay there again but was disappointed in this aspect as we were heading off to an appointment at 1800 for which we were delayed.

Our deluxe king room was only average and spoilt by a TV mounted at the end of the bed!
Overpriced at over £150 per night.
Carpets threadbare in some areas - obviously struggling too maintain an old listed building. If you have to stay ask for a room in the new wing.
Our windows didn’t close properly and had no retainers.

Beautiful spacious bedroom and bathroom. There was a strange smell in the hall but I suppose it is an old place.
Breakfast was ok nothing amazing.
Wonderful view in the morning.

Not Impressed.

Staff were at a stretch on our arrival, very polite and doing the best the could as quickly as possible. They had pre warned us of the problem, which was most useful. Room was ok, bed a little uncomfortable. Sunday Breakfast was unfortunately terrible. The hot food was all cold, and the plates available to put hot food on were also cold. Beautiful building and surrounding and Gardens. We are sure that in the future it will get better.

Nice big room however cobwebs everywhere. Booked half board and hence were told that we could spend upto £25 per head however when it came to clearing the bill, we were told that drinks were not included in the £25. At no point was this mentioned while we were ordering our food. They also said that this was mentioned in our booking which wasn’t the case. So we were misled and as a result, we left the hotel quite resentful

A little bit of history waiting for you to visit.

Not really fair to judge service due to staff shortages at the time if our stay.

The main building is dated as you would expect from a centuries old Manor House but as a Hotel it is functional.
Access to the top floors of the main hotel would be a problem for those not good with stairs.
Great canal walks are just outside the hotel grounds and the outside area is great to relax & unwind.
The hotel is a Wedding venue so maybe enquire as to whether there is a Wedding booked during your stay.
All in all good value especially if you pre-book breakfast.
There is some interesting history attached to the building and the staff we spoke to were very knowledgeable.

Mixed feelings staying here

Hotel didn't serve any food and restaurant was closed. No offer of a deduction in room rate and they blamed corvid for staff shortages. I was about to feel bad for them until i returned that evening to a full blown wedding taking place onsite. The manager then admited they simply prioritised the wedding and thats really why the restaurant was closed. Not really professional when i was paying £120 a night! £6 a pint. Not my best experience staying here.

It was a very disappointing experience as it was not what was advertised. The room was small and a very horrible smell unit as well as the rest of the hotel. I am sorry to say but it is one place I will not be returning to.

Atmospheric hotel

Lovely hotel with a canal at the end of the garden. We stayed in the main building which was full of character. We booked a cosy room as we only stayed for one night, but it seemed like a normal sized room with a decent sized bathroom. The restaurant was nice and atmospheric and the food was good. Our only complaint was the slow drinks' service in the garden and the fact that no one came back to ask if we wanted another drink. I would understand if they were busy but staff were standing around.

Have stayed here on a few ocassions . On this recent trip veyr disappointing. First room was very dirty with rubble across the floor and builders dust. Whilst I know the hotel may have been closed due to Covid I would have expected extra care to be taken when reopening to ensure rooms to a high standard for returning guests. New room given when I complained. No milk portions in room and no breakfast or dinner available.

Beautiful hotel in Cotswolds

We loved our room with a view to the gardens and the old church. The hotel has done a great job in making a beautiful old building accessible and comfortable. We opted for half board as we were not sure of finding restaurants open due to the Covid crisis. The food was delicious and the service courteous.

The reception staff were friendly and overall arrival experience was positive. Bar staff were friendly and helpful, and the bar service was good. The room was large with a large bathroom, however, no view as the window was facing the opposite brick wall and the room layout was inconvenient, eg tea making tray was stored in the wardrobe with no access to electrical supply. The restaurant menu was more like a roadside cafe, the food was bland and of average quality plus the service was slow.

Lovely setting in a great location, staff were very helpful and welcoming, our room was great (size, facilities,etc.) but could do with an update (cracks in the plaster, gaffer tape over bathroom window cracks, etc.) which made it a bit on the expensive side.
On balance I'd visit again but would pick another room.
