Lovely serene location near the canal and river (might get busy when the weather is good)..Lovely traditional spacious and comfortable rooms, in good clean condition. Communication before arrival excellent. We weren't able to use the spa bath as the plumbing currently needs re-doing to prevent leaks and there is no shelf to put the toiletries in the bathroom. Breakfast isn't available at the restaurant currently but there is Toby Carvery or the cafe at Over Farm next door. Location is convenient with a car being close to Gloucester itself.

This place is delightful, charming and wonderful for walking. There are narrow stairs you will need to carry luggage up so be aware. Ask in the restaurant for a bottle of water. The food in the restaurant is excellent, truly exceptionally delicious. The staff were all terrific. Their outdoor space is beautifully inviting. Parking is plentiful and free of charge. There os an EV station. As for our room, it may have beem the smallest they offer. It had two twin beds and a nice window to the small road in front. The beds were comfortable. The furnishings were simple yet sufficient. There was only one chair at a small desk where the kettle and coffee maker sat. The small in room frig didn’t work and was unplugged in the cabinet but it was not necessary for us. There is some noise from other rooms and people moving about in the way of creaking floors and water noise but it wasn’t bothersome during sleeping time. Think of it as a place to sleep rather than hang out in your room. We would stay here again for all of the positives it offered.

An absolutely wonderful place to stay. Lovely staff, food, walks, the room was great. Great food and the chef came round to speak to each of us to make sure we all enjoyed our food. A really special place that we will go back to.
A couple of points to make though, they do not serve breakfast and there is nobody to hand a key back to on our leave which is a bit odd otherwise very highly recommended.

Lovely room, great decor, furnishings and well equipped. Good bathroom and shower. Room spotless.
Convenient location just off dual carriageway, but can hear road noise if windows open. We stayed during a heat wave, so the fan was very welcome.
Good communication and can check in and check out without seeing anyone.
The restaurant has a lovely waterside terrace, open for lunch and dinners apart from Mondays. Breakfast is not available at the hotel, but there is an excellent cafe and farm shop a few minutes walk away.

The shower in our room needs some work. The shower curtain was falling off the rail and there was a large black stain on the floor where water leaks onto the floor.
We loved your inn and it was a beautiful setting. The pub below was a bit pricey but the food was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again and would tell our friends.

Staff were very helpful including when we accidentally locked ourselves out of the room.
The place was nicely located too next to a beautiful canal and the area was very safe.

The only negative was that our room was right at the top of the building and the weather was 20C. There is no air conditioning and it was unbearably hot, even with the fans that were provided and the window open.

Lovely stay, would come again. Nicely presented room and bed was comfortable. Lovely walks along the river on doorstep. Easy parking. My room was on second floor so I struggled a little bit to carry everything up. The room was very warm so I was grateful for the fan provided in the room. I would worry about how warm the 2nd floor would be in the summer. The email with check in information was great. The farm shop nearby is very good and useful.

Parking was easy/safe. Good location. Close for motorway & City. Theres a Toby carvery ( not dog friendly) 2 minute walk, farm shop - cafe not dog friendly & very expensive for a takeaway roll & sausage/cup of tea. Nice views, staff were helpful/pleasant.The lofthouse restaurant/bar appeared popular and dogs were permitted in a small area to the back of the restuarant. The food was nice, but limited in choice. The room was a good size, bed was comfy. However, the bathroom needs attention, the floor is mouldy due to the corner bath shower position, there was no plug for the bath, nor a bath mat to prevent slipping when showering. The milk was not replenished the next day to make tea/coffee. For a modern building I expected more from it, there are no usb sockets in the room. When travelling,we are usually expected to strip beds in most places we visit & did this the moring we left. The linnen on the bed was great clean, unfortunately i can't say the same for the duvet, it was badly stained, as was the matress [there were no protectors on the bed]. The has burn marks and stains on it.

On the plus side it was a last minute booking because another hotel let us down. Room was pleasant if small and bed comfortable.
Less good was the staff in the pub who didn’t really feel the rooms were their problem. We should have had an email to explain access, key-safe, password and check-in/checkout but didn’t.
Website says breakfast available but actually it isn’t on Sunday.

A Good Solid Place to Stay just outside Gloucester

Easy to find and a nice setting. Check-in was tricky because the email telling us how to do it was sent on the afternoon we were arriving - not very helpful. Fortunately the person behinf the bar was able to sort that for us very quickly. The room was OK though the fan in (unobvious in the wardrobe) was so noisy as to be pointless. There is plenty of shaded parking and it is about a 35 minute walk into Gloucester docks, over the Telford Bridge and across the Alney Island nature reserve. A pleasant walk on a sunny day but might be trickier in the wet. Can't comment on the breakfast as we didn't have it (nor were we offered it in truth), preferring to go into town and take the cheaper Wetherspoons option by the docks.

Interesting location by canal and forest with pleasant walk and dining area. Food is a little expensive, but very high quality. Room was OK/good with a few things that could use a refresh. Having no reception area was a little odd. TV was small and jetted tub didn't work. Comfortable and quiet. Country setting but close to main access roads. Motorway is a few miles away in busy traffic.

An awful experience we didn’t receive an email apparently sent to say it is self check in on a Monday evening. Arrived and it was all in darkness, called the contact number numerous times but it just went to an answerphone. Hotels.com also tried to contact them. Finally messaged us later in the evening but we had already had to find somewhere else. They did say that they would be in contact regarding a resolution but yet to hear!!!

Accommodation needs Attention

The condition of the accommodation is disappointing as the carpet is incredibly dirty could do with replacing for darker colour, our window was broken as was the tap and the iron. No central heating in room so a fan provided but you can’t keep this on at night so was quite cold. Bathroom very poor layout not enough space to get ready privately so only go with partner or close friend. Extractor not working.
The location and surroundings nice and restaurant nice and breakfast really good but takes a very long time to come up to 45mins and it was only us. We spent a lot here over the weekend asked for a refund just on poor accommodation but was declined.

To be described as luxury and to be charged over £100 for a the night was poor. There was no one to meet and greet, no reception etc. Not an issue in its own right but there wasn't enough toilet roll for the stay! No plug in the basin or the bath. The room was cold and despite turning the thermostat up it made no difference. Food facilities were closed. I don't complain but this was overpriced for the experience. The towels were also very small! Tap handle was missing as well.

Public area carpets filthy, room carpets much the same and room cleaned to minimal standard, door very insecure, window latch falling off, sink tap handle missing, shower cold. Not only was our room directly above it, but we were not allowed to use the bar or restaurant facilities on arrival. The stay was nice. The room had lots of good features like a jacuzzi bath and a large fridge. However the room was a lot more run-down than was shown in the pictures. We wouldn't have minded this but it was one of the more expensive hotels in the area and it just seems like it wasn't being well looked after and the quality wasn't there for the money.

Amateur hour with terrible duty staff

Lovely place, very practical and charming rooms. However if you check in on one of the unmanned days (a bad idea in itself), watch out. The duty team left us with no access code, no way to check in, we spent an hour outside calling them and also Hotels.com at the end of a long journey. Eventually another guest who had their direct number managed to raise them for us and we were let in. But our room had no electricity/lights - presume a fuse had gone. But of curse no staff onsite to fix it. So we were sent wandering about till we found another one available. By which time it was too late for us to get a meal nearby. Then absolutely no apology and no refund. Such a shame about the duty staff, as the building is charming convenient and very smartly done. But you can't pay for accommodation and then find you can't access it.

Nice room, great style in the bar/restaurant. Good breakfast available. Two improvements could be made: as the room had no central heating, should have a quiet convector heater not the small, noisy fan heater provided;
The cups for coffee are packed with the milk, sachets, sugar, spoons - but all those have to come out to use the cup. That is plain annoying - get a separate container.

We had a lovely stay with our Sproodle. Danielle and the team were very welcoming. The room was very clean and a good size with Kingsize bed, 2 seater sofa, desk and wardrobe. The En-suite also had a bath with power shower. The on-site restaurant the lock keepers was fantastic, great food and service. Would definitely stay again.

The hotel is conveniently placed for the City Centre, a nice country walk. However, it was let down by an inability to fully cater for its guests. I was forced to eat elsewhere on Sat evening after being told there was no tables available. I returned to the hotel at approx 7:45 and there appeared to be a few empty tables. Nonetheless, the hotel was well kept and the staff were nice.

I booked this venue at quite short notice. I chose it for the location. We wanted to get into the Cotwolds and see around Gloucester and Cheltenham too.

The name of the hotel premises is Mooring Post but the hotel is located above the very classy foody pub named the Lock Keepers.

I would recommend that the hotel name is made more accessible from the outside.

Parking was very close by. There is an electric charging point.
The building is old but renovated well.
The rooms are nicely decorated in a calm and ditting manner.

Our room had a jacuzzi bath and a fairly large shower head sunk into the ceiling. Very nice.

The pub is a foody establishment not a clubby one. We did not warn them that we were arriving quite late. This meant that they closed the kitchen early. Bear thar in mind if arriving after
8pm. The mattress was soft and the room warm.

We went missed breakfast because we were sleeping so late.

We came back on Saturday in time for desserts. Absolutely delicious. My partner is quite picky with her ice cream. She loved the chocolate ice cream. Huge chunks of chocolate apparently. I had the salted caramel cheesecake. It was a delight.

A second great night's sleep before we left.

We did need to keep the windows closed since the A40 is close enough to be an issue with open windows.

The Nespresso coffee machine did its job very well.

The staff were friendly, helpful, not intrusive and worthy of praise.

Would we go again ?

Totally irreponsible landlord. Provided me with an access key for the kedpad entry, and it didn't work. Tried contacting the landloard on the specified email and telephone with no response. the property is unmanned for certain days ( not mentioned at the time of booking) and the contact number provided is for an answer phone. Had to drive back all the way back to Cambridge in the heavy rain. Till dat no response from the landlord. Don't look at this accommodation as thre is a chance for you to get locked out unless you have plan B in hand. totally irresponsible landlord.

Lovely property, handily located next to A40, no traffic noise issues, views over River Severn and canal basin. Easy access to Gloucester on foot via park.
Wish I had checked The Lock Keeper website (the bar and restaurant for the accommodation) for opening times, as it was shut during our stay. Managed to have breakfast there before heading home, it was delicious and would have loved to have spent the previous evening with a few drinks and a meal next to the river.
Hotels.com website did state room only had shower and shared bathroom, our room did in fact have full ensuite with jacuzzi bath.
All we need now is another excuse to go back to Gloucester.

We picked this hotel because of location , able to leave car at hotel and walk the 3 km to Gloucester town centre and the quay . There are walks to Maismore and town centre along the river Severn . I didn't have food at hotel ,only problem very noisy because of position near road and railway line .

The hotel was very clean and the staff were very courteous and helpful. It is a little treasure of a find and we will definitely be staying here again. We only had the breakfast here but it was excellent.

The hotel has bar / restaurant downstairs with the rooms upstairs. Our room clean tidy and has everything you need. The food is excellent and the building has been recently renovated to a high standard.

Bathroom not clean, no room maid service , restaurant not available ,you have to pay £10 extra for cooked breakfast. Continental breakfast available but basic. Nice room and pleasant girl in the bar.
