A fantastic few nights stay while we explored the local area. The room was functional and comfortable. what really made our stay stand out was the landlord and the locals, they were all super helpful and chatty. If you are happy with a no frills stay in a beautiful area i would highly recomend the Bell

I recently stayed at this hotel and overall had a great experience. The location is quiet, which makes it ideal for a more relaxed stay, yet still convenient enough for getting around. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the food was genuinely impressive, especially the amazing breakfast, which was a real highlight of my visit.

The room itself was comfortable but a little dated and could use some TLC. It didn’t take away from the stay too much, but it’s something to keep in mind if you prefer more modern accommodation. Friday night was a bit rowdy, so it might not be perfect if you’re hoping for an early night. There’s no on-site parking, but there is plenty of free on-street parking nearby, which was convenient.

Overall, a pleasant stay with great service and food, in a quiet location with just a few small areas that could be improved.

Room was clean and comfortable, although had been recently redecorated, and furniture had not all been replaced, so had to request a hanging rail. A small desk and chair would have been useful too. Staff very friendly and helpful, breakfast very good with generous portions. Did not try the restaurant or bar, overall very happy with choice and would use again.

Friendly pub and staff, sat in a picturesque village. Just a few little touches would make this a 5 star review. There were bedside tables with draws, but nowhere to hang a coat or clothes. Room was clean and en-suite well stocked with toiletries. Had to move the kettle to plug it in, and although we had tea sugar and milk, we had to ask for coffee, but this was sorted quickly. Breakfast menu as you come in to dining room would be helpful or in the rooms.

Comfortable and froendly

Arrived close to closing time and was warmly greeted by publcan, staff and pub regilars.
Felt safe and was well fed at breakfast time. Nice to hear other guests talking about their intended visitsof the day.
Publican helpful with my additional enquiries and offered suggestions of taxis to get to and from a venue..
Lovely lunch eaten after checking out.
Beer Garden well looked after and village was nice to wander around with further walks suggested, if required.
The place is cared for.

I stayed in a single room. Was clean and the mattress was comfy. I would have liked a chair and a fan in the room. Toiletries and tea-making facilities. Landlord apologised for the building works taking place on the pub. I had a good fish dinner. Didn't explore the village but looks pretty and a lot of locals use the pub. No car park but seems to be an adequate availability of street parking. Short drive to Kelmscott.

Needs some finishing touches

The owner reduced the rate prior to the visit due to ongoing building works. We had no issue with this as only staying one night. But the walkways to and from the rooms were untidy and messy, even though the building works are happening this could have been kept a bit tidier. The room was freshly decorated, but the tv didn’t work, there is no overhead light only two small wall lights one of which doesn’t work, the blind does not cover the window so at 4am it was very bright in the room. The bathroom radiator was thick with dust, presumably from recent decorating, the previous persons empty shower gel was still on the top of the shower cubicle. All these are easy fixes and if sorted would make a nice stay. The breakfast was very nice and the landlord was pleasant.

We stayed in Room 4 arriving on 16th April. Toilet found to have feces in it and not cleaned properly! Carpet in room not vaccumed. Mirror in bathroom had fallen and was located on sink not secured. Only window to room had 90 degree slats fitted on exterior. Room very dark. Unable to open window that had a large amount of dirt to its outside and building had scaffolding to its exterior as a roof repair was due to take place shortly.
The crash bar to the fire escape door that was the only point of entry broke as we exited!
In all very poor and should not have been advertised!
A pump for the water was located in the roof space close to the room and provided a lovely wake up call at 6:30 am due to its loud noise as other residents used water!
Manager not present as night off!

The Bell Inn. Could Do Better.

A quick stayover in the village of Ducklington to see family. The pub was ok, but it needs a really good clean. The room was the same and basically two double beds in a double room to make a family room, the beds were however perfectly nice, warm and comfortably but again, the room just needed a really good clean. The facilities were basic at best but ok for a stayover. The staff were friendly but you can see it was run on minimum staff. For example, the breakfast chef was chef, server, and the only person there in the morning. The town, pub and place are perfectly pleasant but lacking cleanliness in our opinion. Even something as simply as our evening meal table hadn't been fully cleared by the time we came for breakfast

Lovely stay at The Bell in Ducklington

Enjoyed a comfortable at The Bell Inn.
Very Olde Worlde. We had breakfadt and an evening meal on our two night stay. The food and produce used were excellent and the breakfast really was plentiful and first class. The Landlord seemed to wear several different hats and was most welcoming and polite in everything he did. We found the room, although dated, very clean and hygienic. We would not hesitate to stay again bext time qe are that way on.
The only downside was the BLOODY SCAFFOLDING.

Ok for a short stay - good cooked breakfast

The Bell is a 17th-century inn with a wealth of original fearures and a lovely open fire. However, it was lacking in atmosphere and the evening meal we had was not great and quite expensive too. Our room was comfortable and clean but the heated towel rail wasnt working and bathroom mirror was off the wall. It was also a bit dark and claustophobic as there were permanent shutters over the window. On the plus side, the cooked breakfast was excellent and the host was keen to make sure we had everything we needed. The location is also very pretty and close to Oxford, Blenheim, Witney and the wider cotswolds. It was good value, given its location, but I'm not sure we'd stay there again.

One night manageable

The staff member who welcomed us was friendly and helpfully showed us to the room. However acess to it was outside via a poorly lit metal staircase, which would've been a nightmare to go down if there had been a fire as it had no contrast edging.

The room hadn't been heated and it took a while to get the room warm once we'd turned the radiator on. The shower cubicle door couldn't be fully opened as the toilet wa too close, but everything was very clean and the bed comfy.

The dining area at breakfast smelt awful probably because the pub is small and had no doors between different areas. The food was no more than ok and there was no-one around when we came to leave, so we just left the key on the bar.

Decent B&B

For what I wanted, which was just a bed for the night, it was fine. It's a 'locals' pub, which does mean good beer a decent food. The room was pretty small but sufficient for what I needed. The biggest issue though was no hot water in the shower in the morning. Hot water in the sink, but not in the shower and I waited an extremely long time, in case it took a while. There was no-one in the pub to ask for help, only the chef in the restaurant, so a bit disappointing.

There is no car park, so parking is just on the road outside. I was assured that it was perfectly secure and I didn't have reason to doubt that, but it did feel a bit uncomfortable having to leave my car overnight on the road a walk away from the pub.

The food in the restaurant was OK, nothing extraordinary, but I have to say, the breakfast was amazing, one of the best I've had anywhere.

I arrived at a lovely old pub in a nice location for one nights stay after a long drive. Was told that there was no food served that night but breakfast was arranged for 9am.The room was basic but Ok for me.
The pub was deserted in the morning and no amount of knocking could raise anyone. After 9.15 am I gave up and drove into town for breakfast at the same place I went the night before.
Very annoyed and disappointed about the Bell Inn.Not good enough.

Great stay in a beautiful country pub

Lovely country pub with great staff and friendly locals. Room was basic but clean with really comfortable beds and had a great sleep. We stayed on a Friday night and didn’t hear any noise after 11pm. Lovely outside space where the local's was playing games. Side access so we didn’t have to go through the pub every time we came and went. Best part of the stay was the breakfast, very good quality and cooked so well it was one of the nicest full English I’ve ever had.bottles of water and toiletries in room was an added bonus I would definitely return again

Quaint, friendly & ideal for solo travelers

There was everything to like about The Bell Inn, especially its location across from a scenic and rapidly moving river. The room was small but definitely adequate for a solo traveler. I worried needlessly about having a shared bath because it was just steps from the room and always available. The pub below the guest rooms served a variety of tasty food, especially top-notch fish & chips. Plus, there was very talented LIVE musician on Saturday night who also guided karaoke time. It ended at 11, so no late night noise. Overall, there is definitely a fun family vibe here. I was surprised to see many recreational vehicles/campers parked in a large area behind the inn, expecting that to be a problem. It certainly was not. In fact, those guests were polite, respectful, and quite enjoyable. If you're looking for something terrific instead of a chain hotel - and want the experience of interacting with local people - The Bell Inn is definitely the place to be. I am sooo glad I chose it!

Worst night ever !!

There is no parking to start with.
It is an old run down pub with a few old regulars it seems.
We ate a tasteless meal at night & just about acceptable breakfast.
Our room was at top of the fire exit, draughty under the door and very worn and dirty blinds that didn’t block the light out.
Stains on the top of drawers and cobwebs everywhere.. on top of that the constant noise from the aircon unit… all night !!
Finally the boiler kicked in at 6am to complete a sleepless night.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
Save your money and find somewhere better than this… it shouldn’t be that hard.

It was okay

There is limited parking so just be aware. Room was comfortable but not as clean as it should have been. There was lots of dust. There was also hair in the bathroom. There were toiletries. The bedroom was basic but comfortable. Kettle with tea and biscuits was a nice touch. Room is over pub you can hear people talking but kick out is at 11 and it’s quiet from then. Breakfast in the morning was good cold buffet with cereals and fruit plus a full English option.

The room was very basic the paint in the bathroom was all coming off .
The room was not clean after the first night plus we found things in the drawer from previous people.
The first morning we went down for breakfast at 8 am as breakfast was from 8am till 9am , was given a nice list with the things we could have but less then half off it was available no fruit, yogurt croissant's psin au chocolate when asked if there was any was told that they had not come in yet, only I curtains of orange juice so when it was gone no more

Amazing little get away. Comfortable room. Welcomed on our arrival was very warm and friendly.
The food and pub was excellent.
We travelled with a child who was entertained by a number of games.
The staff and locals were all welcoming and more than happy to have us to stay.
We had to leave before normal breakfast time and they happily opened breakfast early by a whole hour.
We will return.

Clean and Good value

Clean and suitable for a quick stay.

Very friendly and helpful reception staff- lovely to be greeted to warmly . And - Was provided with a bottle of fresh milk for tea which has not happened anywhere else. Husband found breakfast very tasty and well cooked .

Basic in some respects - quite small - so just a rail for clothes and had to ask for hairdryer. But - shower very clean ( no bath). I found the bed very comfy but husband found it too hard .
Definitely worth the price.

The establishment was a typical English pub inn however the bedding was not clean. As the quilt cover was tucked in this was not obvious on arrival and only noticeable once covers were loosened off which was during the night due to the room being so hot. It looked as if the quilt cover had been put on inside out after someone else had used it without it being cleaned. I did show photos to a member of staff when settling my bill and she said she would speak to the person responsible for the housekeeping.

We won't stay here again

We were given a friendly welcome on arrival and shown to our room. This was clean, apart from the carpet which was in need of cleaning. The bed was comfortable.
The most extraordinary thing was the shower, which delivered tepid water in 10 second bursts accompanied by a loud noise. A bath would have taken forever to fill and would by then have been cold.
The breakfast "pastries" were plastic-wrapped and cotton wool textured. The cooked breakfast was better.
This is a smart village, quiet overnight, and the pub is an attractive building.

THIS PLACE HAS A LOT OF POTENTIAL. ANDY DID HIS BEST TO ACCOMMODATE US AND WAS HERE TO HELP. HOWEVER THE ROOM WAS TOO SMALL. THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH SPACE TO MOVE BETWEEN THE TWO BEDS. THE WINDOW IS QUITE STRANGE. IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO OPEN THE WINDOW AS NORMAL. THERE WERE BIG SOLID SHUTTERS IN FRONT, SO NOT ENOUGH LIGHT COMING IN. WE COULD SLIDE THE PANNELS TO GET FRESH AIR IN. WE FELT TRAPPED IN. WE COULD HEAR TOO MUCH OF THE PEOPLE OUTSIDE THE PUB IN FRONT. IT WAS NOT PEACEFUL AND NOT WELCOMING ROOM, WITH ALL ANDY’S EFFORT, WHICH WE ARE THANKFUL FOR.
WE WANTED TO LEAVE STRAIGHT AWAY BUT REALISED THAT IT WAS TOO MUCH FOR US TO GO BACK HOME AFTER A LONG DRIVE.
SO WE LEFT THE FOLLOWING DAY INSTEAD OF STAYING FOR AN ADDITIONAL NIGHT.
THE TAPS FOR SHOWER AND BATH MAKE A LOT OF NOISE AND STOP AND WORK CONTINUALLY.
WE ARE EXPECTING A REFUND FOR THE ADDITIONAL NIGHT.
ANDY UNDERSTOOD PERFECTLY WHY WE WERE NOT HAPPY AND WAS APOLOGETIC.

Tired and stupid breakfast times

Although I expected a 14th century inn to not have totally modern amenities the outside metal staircase to the rooms was rusted and had holes rusted through. The room was a little tired and I was unable to shut the window in the bathroom (room6) due to it being rotten. The radiator in the bathroom was on full blast and could not be turned off. A major issue though was that although Bookings.com stated breakfast was 7-9AM when I came down for breakfast the pub was locked up. Despite trying to ring there was no answer. I had a business meeting in Oxford so at 7:45 I had to leave and source breakfast elsewhere. When I emailed I was informed that breakfast was 8-9am and I should have been informed at check in which had not been conveyed to me. breackfast starting at 8AM is not really much use to business travellers

This was my second stay at The Bell and unfortunately my room was not as clean this time as during my first stay. There were some tea/coffee marks near the tea/coffee area. Behind the drawer cabinet and also the wall side of the bed needed hoovering. But the room was still pleasant and comfortable. The breakfast was fine and all staff were polite and friendly. Location is perfect for an overnight stay near the A40 before continuing your journey the next day. Ducklington is very pretty, worth an evening stroll.

Would I stay again? Probably!

No on-site parking available. Only place available was on the road which is fairly narrow, near village duck pond.
Room was OK but a bit tight for 3 people. Heating was not working throughout the pub, restaurant and bedrooms. But there was a small electric heater in the bedroom. Bathroom was too cold to take a shower. At dinner, one of our drinking glasses still had lipstick on the rim even though it had been washed. The "waiter" changed it and apologised. We discovered at 10.30 pm that a glass in the bedroom also had lipstick on it but too late to change. Evening meal was OK, so too was breakfast. Overall an *ok* stay.

We were disappointed to find that access to rooms was via an outside fire escape. As my wife has very limited mobility she did struggle with the stairs. We had asked for a ground floor room on booking but there was no mention that this was not possible as all rooms are up the fire escape!

Friendly staff, poor cleaning

The staff and locals were all very friendly and made us very welcome. We have stayed at The Bell in the past plus I knew some locals as I used to live around the area.
The whole place needs a deep clean. I kept sticking to the seats in the dining room. Bedroom 4 that we had was dirty. Old cobwebs hung from the ceiling over the bed, there was dirt on the window sill, cobwebs behind the bedside table along with an empty mouse bait tray. The bathroom extract was cover in old dust, there was thick dust on the picture of an elephant in there. The shower was filthy and the flexible shower head was too long and could reach the shower tray which is against regulations due contamination between dirty water and fresh water. The shower outlet looked grubby so on lifting the cover it was full of old hair and muck.Toilet brush holder was filthy. Photos say more than words

Sweet local pub - probably not suited for families

Service was amazing and everybody was incredibly warm and friendly. Room was OK with two large beds and some nice biscuits but was up a fair few metal stairs which I didn’t realise so was interesting with a dog and a baby. Shower wasn't great as water pressure was operated by a very noisy pump which spurted and stopped and was also very loud whenever other residents had a shower. Room was noisy when the pub was busy which wasn't best when trying to get a baby to sleep but I guess that's the nature of a pub. Breakfast was quite nice but only available between 08.00-09.00 and evening meal was disappointing. This was handled very well by staff and they were incredibly accomodating to our needs which was appreciated. Water for hot drinks and Coke tasted very odd though.
