We enjoyed a very nice five day stay. The ground floor of the hotel is very Manor House style. It is cosy with areas to relax in with comfortable furniture. It has a good dining room and also a separate bar, the Oak Bar, where you can enjoy a drink and a lighter meal. The gardens are attractive and
there is ample parking space. We particularly enjoyed the cold and hot breakfast options available. Our standard room was a decent size and the bathroom was larger than normal with a separate bath and shower.
We did not use the spa facilities.
It is conveniently located just outside Cirencester and is approximately a 20 minute walk into town.
We would definitely stay at this hotel again if we were in the area.

When we got there on a Friday afternoon there was a party going on the lawn,with a barbecue and a bar that had a bar with a musician playing music.The atmosphere was very pleasant.We ate in the hotel and the food was perfect.All in all a lovely stay in the Cotswolds

Great hotel, beautiful building. Appreciating the hotel is family owned, it could do with a little modern tlc TV didn’t work in the bedroom for channels 1-4.

Extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work, towels are quite old,

Check your dinner bill, we had 3 bottles of wine added to the bill but we’d only had 1 £25 bottle. We were being charged for 2 x £45 bottles we’d not had.

When we called to get the tv satellite sorted in our bedroom it was the waiter and head waiter who attended our room #faultytowers

Could be 5* but I’m reluctant to give it more than 3*,

£200 for 1 night without breakfast is expensive for mother and daughter aged 83 & 52.

We’ll shop around n xx time.

Great location for popping into Cirencester and day out in the Cotswolds. Room was huge and very clean. Staff were helpful and friendly. Hotel was undergoing a paint job when we stayed but everyone working was very polite and helped us avoid any wet spots! Would definitely stay again,

Reception staff - lovely.

Bar/Restaurant Staff weren't rude but didn't seem bothered with actual service. I counted 10 dirty tables as we walked into the restaurant area, they were still all cluttered 90 minutes later. After waiting for table service for 15 minutes, I found a member of staff who asked to me follow them to the bar rather than serve us at the table, for no real reason than their convenience. We were approached once and asked whether we wished to order food but no one came back to ask as after that so we gave up. No one was rude, but no one really cared whether we were there or not.

Spa was lovely and all the staff polite and engaging.

Rooms are dark, low ceilings, out-updated furniture, etc.
All in all, the hotel is good enough, though one may not think of it as a spa like experience, especially when considering that this is one of the attractions/ amenities that they are offering & advertising.

Overall it was a lovely place to stay, and the staff were great and food fantastic. We had a room in the main house on the top floor, overlooking the garden. However we did leave a day early because we had two sleepless nights on a overly firm mattress and thin lumpy pillows. When you wake up at 2am, 4am and 6am, and are tossing and turning because you can't get comfy does spoil a lovely stay. Simply better pillows and a good mattress topper would make the world of difference. I'm not sure reception staff when i noted it saying 'no one has complained before', doesn't mean previous guests haven't felt the same! If you love firm mattresses where the springs dig it, you'll have great time.... saying all that the staff we met were fantastic and food we had was great quality and served with care and attention especially taking accont allergies!

Great condition rooms, bar staff and table service staff couldn't be more friendly. The only down side was the restaurant food. Edible but nothing special. Steak was dry, gnocchi meal was just simply gnocchi and ripped up mozzarella with passata tomato sauce poured over, I sent back my poached eggs at breakfast as they were hard, not runny. I had high hopes for the restaurant food but it was no different to what I could quickly whip up at home. My 3 stars are purely for the hospitality staff but not the chefs.

The rooms are a bit old and run down. The water pressure wasn't great either however I'm not sure what the hotel could do about it.

The restaurant is way too expensive to what it is. We had a dinner which was good but nothing extra. The breakfast was nice tho.

Overall our experience was okay but will probably not coming back.

Staff are very nice here, room was spacious but cold. Heater wasn't powerful enough I'm afraid. Landing radiators on our floor never came on for the 3 days we were there.
Lovely bar area and plenty of places to sit and relax. Breakfast was nice but wasnt included in the booking.

At 2pm on Monday 10th November, we were relaxing on our beds when a maintenance man entered with his key (he did not knock the door) and shocked us by saying he was checking some painting that needed touching up. We were very shocked and when he realised we were 8n the room he apologised and left. We took this up with the blonde lady on reception who apologised and said maybe it was an error on their side, but she didnt know for definite and said they do need to carry out repairs sometimes. Surely thus shoukd be dobe within the 4 hour tirnaround from check out to new guesr check in? Also, she said we should have put the 'do not disturb ' sign on the outside, but again that is putting the blame on us. We felt it was a violation of our privacy and no real explanation or compensation offered.

All very nice. We didn’t have breakfast so cannot comment but all the sitting areas and little pub area are very nice indeed. I personally like to have areas within a hotel where you can sit and read in comfort and this hotel certainly comes up trumps in this. Only reason for my 4-star overall rating is that the hotel does not have a lift which was disappointing. Other than that - great place.

Perfect stay

We enjoyed the whole experience of our two night stay. The room was clean and comfy. We had two breakfasts & two dinners during our stay, all four of the meals were tasty & served hot. The service was excellent, friendly & efficient. We would definitely stay at this hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay and whilst the room was very clean, quiet and comfortable it was rather dark due to the small windows. The food was very good if a little expensive and the steak and wine recommended by the waiter on the first night was not the best we have had. Excellent stay in a very nice hotel. Lovely old building, great staff and very convenient for Cirencester and visiting other spots in the cotswolds.
Lovely breakfast, great bar staff, great parking and the spa facilities were very nice considering its size.
Rooms are a little small but overall a charming and beautiful spot. I would definitely visit again.

Nice hotel, but inedible food.

Beautiful hotel, but my only complaint was tho food. I ordered the vegan burger and it was terrible. The burger itself was dry and didn’t have a nice taste to it. There was a soggy green leaf of some kind underneath it and a few sliced of gherkin on top. There should have been a tomato, but I asked them not to put that on. It was just a bland dry vegetable burger and a few chips. There wasn’t any salad or relish on the side and It cost £16 which I found very expensive for the cheap ingredients that were used. Charging £16 they could have put more thought into what a vegan burger should be like. There are so many lovely ingredients out there. But they chose cheap and not very nice, then charged a fortune.I couldn’t eat it. I mentioned it to the lady who collected my plate and was told that there was nothing that could be done as I’d already paid for it. Appears they don’t refund. Very very disappointing as everyone else’s food looked ok. Wish I’d taken a photo to show you how bad it was.

July business stay at Stratton Hotel

It was a really nice place to stay. Also has a Spa attached to it if you wanted to have a pamper. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The only thing i wish it had was air conditioning in the rooms as it can get quite hot at night. Would definately go again and recomment it. Food was also fantastic although i only had breakfast there.

Floorboards noisy in rooms and corridors. Noise from other rooms affected sleep. Did not see any lifts so hand carried heavy cases to our room up two flights of steep narrow stairs

Over all the hotel was lovely and staff were really friendly. It was very warm and stuffy inside, despite it being breezy outside. The tv in my room didn’t work and they don’t turn the espresso machine on until 10am, so couldn’t get an espresso coffee at breakfast before leaving for the day. Would have loved to use the spa but it closed up early on a Sunday unfortunately.

This is not a hotel spa! Its a hotel with a separate spa which you have to pay extra for, which was not advertised on this site anywhere!! When I questioned this was told we had to pay £15 per hour per person to use a sauna and hot tub!!
The bathroom ceiling was peeling off in huge areas, the bed was so noisy everytime you moved at all it squeaked like mad!
At 7.15am we were woken to the glass bins being emptied and laundry cages being collected from outside our bedroom, people shouting and zero consideration for guests.
No air conditioning and windows restricted so very hot noisy night's sleep. This hotel was over priced, tired and a huge disappointment. Dont book if youre looking for a spa and relaxing stay. Plenty of other better options available.
My concerns and complaints about the charges for spa were completely ignored by spa and hotel staff, simply were not interested.

We had a fantastic time at Stratton House. The location was perfect for exploring the Cotswolds and there are lots of things to see and do around Cirencester.
Our room was very spacious and had a lovely traditional English feel. There was plenty of parking and the hotel bar was terrific. Jack, one of the barmen, was very attentive and friendly and really couldn’t have done a better job. The bar menu was great and we particularly enjoyed the local gin and beer options. We ate some beautiful meals there also - the leek and potato soup was the best I’ve ever eaten!

Would recommend local Indian Restaurant Rasoi for dinner.

Good Hotel - Misleading Advertisement

The hotel was nice overall, and the restaurant was superb. However, the customer service at the reception was not to our satisfaction at all.
We had booked a “Deluxe Double Room, 1 King Bed, Garden View”. If you see the room photos and description (as shown in photos below as well), they suggest that a shower/tub combination is available. However, when we got there, neither a tub in the room (for which we were very excited), nor even a tub in the bathroom was provided. When we took it to the reception, instead of trying to change our room or provide other means of compensation, he just simply said I cannot do anything for you and you must have called the hotel to confirm if the room you had booked was actually available, and not just trust the website!! This was indeed a misleading advertisement, followed by a poor customer service.
I have put actual photos of the room for evidence of the absence of what was advertised on the website.

Not a relaxing stay

The room was clean and comfortable enough but very basic, not sure if there was a faulty fire alarm but it went off at 10pm and 5am which ruined any chance of a relaxing sleep, so would not stay here again. When asked at checkout if the stay was okay I mentioned about the fire alarms and they brushed it off. Additionally we struggled to get a parking space at the hotel.

Stay at hotel great. Brilliant with dogs! Reception and staff generally extremely helpful. Sadly cannot say same for Hotels.com. Booked room with note I had two dogs. Contacted some time later bye Hotels.com to say I couldn't have dogs in that room and they apparently couldn't get Stratton House to agree to move me to a dog friendly room. ie I had to lose my deposit. Called Stratton House directly myself and they moved me with no issue at all and didn't charge me to move rooms. Would visit Stratton House again but never use Hotels. com again!

Delightful few days away, beautiful hotel with everything we needed. Breakfast was great, a wide range of choices. Great location to go out on walks and find nearby pubs. Only downside is there’s nothing to say the spa isn’t included in the price, and the spa doesn’t have a swimming pool. Otherwise it’s very nice!

We had a lovely experience at this hard-to-fault country house hotel. Noticeably, nothing looked, worn, old or tired. We slept in Room 10 which overlooks the garden and which, going by the fire safety plan on the back of the door, looks to be the largest room on the 1st floor and yes, it's big! Very comfortable 6-foot bed (proper ‘king size') and nice to have a central ceiling light as well as wall and side-table lamps. The bathroom was not huge but adequate, with a large walk-in shower cubicle, ample water pressure and good towels.

The public areas, especially the bar area, we found understated, so not especially welcoming, but this was more than offset by the high standard of service from the front of house staff. A special mention for Dan behind the bar who, whilst young, has the right attitude.

A good number of tables and chairs outside for al-fresco drinks and meals in the well-kept lawned garden.

We chose to eat a light meal in the bar and thought the food was well prepared and good value. Likewise breakfast. The Cotswold (full English) was perfectly cooked and nicely presented. The bacon in particular was thickly sliced and seemed not to have shrunk in cooking. The spread of self-service items was varied and well displayed on a huge table.

Altogether a lovely stay; we have every intention of going back
