The building itself is lovely the location is nice, the bar was nice good selection of drinks and food in the evening was good.staff were lovely we stayed for one night just as a treat for my partners birthday however for what i actually paid for the room it was a slight disappointment the bathroom looked very dated there was a rubber bath matt on the shower floor wrapped in a ribbon that when unrolled had black mold spots all over it fair to say we did not use it we were in a small low ground level room which had frosted windows so not much natural light coming through and no veiw of the lovely garden no mini fridge for water only one small bottle each was provided however the bed was comfortable and the shower gels ect were branded i wish we were offered a better room for the price as on the day of arrival when browsing Expedia other rooms were on offer at a lower price so clearly more rooms were avaliable we could not stay for the breakfast as had plans early on so cant comment on the "free" breakfast

We had a lovely spacious room. The car parking was tight and the car park is small but we got a space. To be fair , it wasn't helped by some poor parking by other cars. We didn't have an evening meal at the hotel but enjoyed a really good breakfast. The lady who served us was very knowledgeable as one of us is coeliac. Everything on the buffet was clearly marked for allergens. We will definitely return.
A nice welcome from the guy on Reception, a good night's sleep and a hearty delicious breakfast in a beautiful part of the Cotswolds.

The hotel was really lovely, but could have been even better if the tables in library room were cleared to allow guests to use them. We put cups etc from our table onto one which had not been cleared and despite staff bringing food and drinks, they ignored the mess for over an hour until another guest asked for the table to be cleared. Staff should never walk past dirty tables.

We were upgraded to the Cuckoo suite which was lovely overlooking the lit gardens. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The Close breakfast menu was also very good with lots of choice, we had Eggs Benedict and Eggs Florentine which were very nice.

Really friendly guy on reception who was great and helped us sort out parking etc. Room was lovely, well furnished and all felt high quality.

The only bit that slightly let things down was breakfast. Although the food was good (when it came), the service wasn’t. No-one gave us menus so we had to ask, then we had to ask to actually order, it was all a bit erratic and the server didn’t really seem to know what they were doing! Also, on a more minor point, the coffee was terrible!

Shame really as everything else about our stay was great!

The room was immaculate, cosy and well laid out- not an easy task as it was at the top of a turret! All the fabrics, cushions and blankets were of an excellent quality.
Staff were outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble. They were friendly without being intrusive and they created a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. They are a real asset. Breakfast was excellent - a wide selection at the well stocked buffet and an excellent cooked option too.

An enjoyable stay

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay at The Close. We had a lovely room and I don’t think we’ve ever slept in a more comfortable bed! Breakfast was great with lots of choice. The staff were generally good.
Food in the restaurant and drinks were pricey but the quality was good.

Excellent location right in the centre of Tetbury. Overall, very clean. Room was very spacious and huge bathroom, however, one of the toilet flushes didn't work and the seat was very wobbly. Very quiet. Beautiful garden with fountain and large outdoor terrace. Breakfast very good.

Overall a lovely quaint place to stay for your Cotswolds trip. Tetbury is a lovely sleepy town. The checkin gentleman at the reception was delightful entry to UK - he was charming, friendly and helpful with recommendations and generally great chat. The building is historic and comes with an older feel - which can be difficult as it’s all a bit older (eg shower was very low ceiling). But that’s part of the charm I suppose.

We were in The cloisters which had its own courtyard and access directly to gardens and carpark, all great to those dog moments!
Eat at the hotel both nights where service was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful.

The Close hotel is well situated, clean and of the highest standard. The room we stayed in was very well appointed with a lovely big king size bed and an excellent en suite. We had the breakfast which was delicious with plenty of options and the staff are very attentive without being imposing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend. Really excellent food and service. Some annoying things like the car park being used by contractors, so had to park outside on the road. Stiff lock on the bedroom door which made entry awkward every time. Very well appointed bathroom, however, the rainfall shower, which was fixed from a very high ceiling, made showering impossible for me without feeling drowned. I longed for a flexible hose.

A treat for my husband’s birthday. We live approximately 15 miles from Tetbury but our friends had stayed at The Close and had recommended it. We weren’t disappointed. On arrival our room wasn’t ready but we were early so weren’t expecting it to be. We happily went for an explore of the town and had a spot of lunch at a nearby eatery. I then received a phone call to say that our room was ready. Excellent customer service to say the least. Our room was spacious and very comfortable and looked out onto the beautiful garden at the back of the property. They had also provided a birthday card for the birthday boy. The facilities in the room were excellent with a generous tea tray with an array of teas coffees and flapjack and chocolates. The bathroom was full of molton brown toiletries and had plenty of fluffy towels and a free standing bath and shower with room for two. We had dinner in the grand restaurant which was wonderful. Only let down was that they forgot our order of new potatoes but this was rectified quickly and the waiter could not have been more apologetic. Breakfast was high quality with a good choice of things to keep you going until your a la carte choices arrive. We would love to go back and would recommend the hotel to anyone we know. Tetbury is also a wonderful location full of quirky shops to explore.

Really great stay at the Close Hotel. Large, comfy bed (we were in the Gallery room) and bath filled up really quickly. The hotel accommodated an early check in and late check out for us (£20 each). The garden at the rear of the hotel is really cute and doesn’t look as though it would be in the centre of room. Good food though service a little slow in the restaurant. Quite expensive restaurant bill.

Beautiful building in a beautiful small Cotswolds town .
We really enjoyed our stay here ! So don’t get me wrong .
Very central to Tetbury and with enough good shops , bars , restaurants and pubs nearby .
Lovely staff , gorgeous rear garden , big and well cleaned rooms and good breakfasts .
Free parking is also a big plus .
Great bar and front lounge area .
Only SMALL negatives were ;
No full length mirror in room .
No fridge in room .
Only a half length wardrobe.
No safe in room . ( unless we missed it ? )
Not an easy issue to deal with in an historic building but poor sound insulation between rooms , particularly a room above yours ( our room could easily have absorbed another four inches of sound insulation on the ceiling and another layer of carpet underlay in the room above would have helped . Toilet refilling noise also needs reducing .

I really do feel for the owners on all of these minor points being in such a stunning building as otherwise it is gorgeous , I only make comments in order to help make the small improvements that would make an establishment more exceptional but there was a slight and fluctuating odour of what I took as ‘ bins ‘ over our three day stay to the rear of the hotel .
It’s odd as when I went out to the bin shed I could not smell anything so , possibly from a neighbouring property ?but may be depending on the direction of the wind but did not disappear over three days so definitely needs experiencing and eradicating . Thank you

I always check the hygiene and condition of the duvet under its cover. Whilst it looked averagely clean it was in holes in places and the type of duvet you can buy very cheap via retailers. New duvets are not that expensive and for the room rate I would have expected better.
Also it was a winter weight duvet in June?! So I slept poorly and hot.
I also check the condition of the mattress. Even though there was a topper, the mattress below this had many stains and looked really old. Again a new mattress is not that expensive and if the exisiting one is aged and stained it should be replaced.
The sheets were clean though and I did not check the pillows!!
The TV had no picture on arrival but was resolved.
Based on this I would not stay again.
We were in the Tudor room.

Our second stay here…we chose a large deluxe room, that was huge, with a gorgeous bathroom. I love this hotel, its quirky layout, the history, location…and now, also its chef….food was to die for, quality ingredients, beautifully cooked and presented. Drinks are on the expensive side, but there is a store across the road that sells wine. Parking can be tight, but in our 4 night stay, we were always able to snag one.

Lovely 16th cent. building in Tetbury town centre

I had a room under the eaves which can be quite hazardous. Easy to bang one's head in the night. But managed to avoid that. Otherwise, this is a grand old lady of Tetbury which is beginning to show some imperfections here and there. Some stains on the carpet, some cracks in skirting board junctions.

The staff were excellent and the food was good if pricey.

Parking is challenging. Also hard to find unless you know what to look for. Have to drive some distance and then come in via a housing estate.

Welcome was disappointing. You’re expected to check in online, which is fine and saves time, but the reception staff did minimum. Took card. Showed us where room was. Nothing else. No I do about bar or restaurant. No checking if we had reservations. They just didn’t makes feel particularly welcome. Not great in the hospitality business.

The Close is an upmarket beautiful 16th century hotel, having staff who are all extremely friendly, helpful and courteous. We were upgraded on arrival to a superb larger room than we had booked. We stayed here with our friends on Saturday 21st as my husband and I are looking to potentially relocate around this area. The hotel situation amazing, the parking is a bit of an issue tho. The welcome and service throughout was perfunctory not necessarily overly friendly. We didn’t feel the love or passion from the seemingly stressed out staff. That said no-one was rude but neither did anyone really stand out. We dined in the restaurant in the evening and the food was exceptional, chateaubriand cooked to our exact preference - fillet steaks for our friends - all perfect. Breakfast was a great choice of options and very nice. On departure again all very perfunctory and cheerless and we weren’t even asked how our stay was. Bizarre

We stayed here on a Sunday night in a 'standard room'. The room was too noisy with the windows open and too hot and stuffy with them closed. the plug in fan left in the room made little difference. The room was wedged into the eves and the head of the bed was the other side of the wall from a fire door that closed with a thud every time someone passed through it. The sink did not drain properly and the shower was stuck on a mode that restricted the water flow so that it was like standing under a low powered tap. I did raise these issue to be told ' well you were in a standard room ' and ' we cannot do anything because we are a listed building '. I barley slept and would have paid more for a quiet room if I had realised that the standard rooms were in fact sub standard. I suggested that the fie door might be modified so that it shuts gently, that a ceiling fan (or indeed a Dyson fan or equivalent ) would be better in the room, and of course that the bathroom issues be fixed. We were very much looking forward to staying here but were extremely disappointed. The hotel seem to be trying to carry off a London style professional aloofness, they cam across as disdainful. The food was really excellent, just do not book a ' standard room '.

Satnav led us astray so we had a bit of trouble finding the place but fortunately found a friendly local who directed us.
It was pouring rain and their parking lot which is a bit of a challenge to find was full. We went in, and the extremely helpful young woman at the check in desk came out with us and moved her car so we could have her parking space!
The building itself is quite interesting, the room was comfortable and the food was good. Unfortunately, they couldn't fix the weather.

Gorgeous hotel

Gorgeous hotel with a lovely garden. What a joy to have breakfast or drinks there when the sun is out! Our twin room was great, nice view of the garden, very quiet and with a stunning bathroom!
