When l went to use a washer I noticed little black hairs on it and I was grossed out then went to put it aside to grab another and looked down and the sink had heaps of hairs in it that had fallen out of the washer. Makes me wonder if the washer was left from the previous occupant of the room as the shaving hairs were almost packaged up in it. See photos

I also had to ask for the kettle to be cleaned as it had a lot of build up of gunk in the spout. The receptionist had it put in my room while I was out walking and it looked like they got a knife and removed maybe 10% of the gunk but clearly didn’t care. See photos.

The location is convenient but the cleanliness is poor and the hotel was tired. The windows were also inoperable which I dislike.

I am unable to understand how Expedia provided a rating of "very good" for this hotel inspite of my experiences from 10 /5/2026 to 17/5/2026. My room was 1208.

1. Carpets outside the room - as soon as you come out of the lift the sight of the dirty carpets attracted my attention.

2. Carpets inside the room were just as bad leaving me to wonder when the carpets were either vacuumed or steam cleaned.

3. The wardrobe has dust on all the shelves.

4. The shower in the bathroom was ancient requiring a lot of ingenuity to arrive at a balance between hot and cold water to be able to have a comfortable shower.

5. The king size bed was not level, which I mean it was not flat but was convex in shape with the sides tapering, which made me almost slide off the bed if I slept to clase to the edges.

6. To top it all, were the pillows. The pillows were too big for the pillow cases and so they were stuffed in making them lumpy and uncomfortable to lay my head on.

All in all, it made a very uncomfortable 7 nights stay involving a lot of turning and twisting each night to arrive at a good location on the bed and pillow.

7, The hotel did not have a map of the city of Adelaide and I was told that as the hotel was closing in a month or so that they were not going to get any more brochures / maps etc.

8. The positive points were

a. The location was close to all rail, bus, train and shopping

b, The staff were good providing assistance as required

c. The breakfast was of a high quality.

For an IHG hotel, it is very disappointing. It looks nice from outside, but the more you look, the worse it got.

The one lasting impression from our 2 night stay is how dirty this room was - 100% not being cleaned or maintained properly.
Other than the amount of dust in the room and bathroom, the bathroom shower had lots of black mould in the white grout, hair on the floor and there was blood and crud on the shower head. Definitely not being cleaned properly each day/ after each guest.

The curtains didn’t block out all the light from outside, the ventilation/aircon didn’t work very well unless you dropped the temp heaps, and room was too small for everything in it - full table with chair, and a sitting chair.

We spoke to reception about the cleanliness and showed photos of the blood on the shower head. There were no apologies, shock or compensation - Didn’t really care; terrible service. They said housekeeping would sort it out (they only cleaned 3/4 of the room when we returned and that seemed adequate for them)

I’ve come home quite sick - can’t 100% say it was from the hotel, but can’t say that it’s not.

Only positive - soft comfy bed (but cleanliness questioned)

The Mayfair is a nice hotel right in the heart of Adelaide. It clean and a very pleasant and we'll maintained place to stay. Breakfast was excellent too and the bed comfortable. I highly recommend it.

On first sight, the room looked of 5 star quality, with good amenities in the room, bathroom and storage area.
However, the carpet is in very serious need of a good deep clean and was rather unsavoury to both look at and walk on.

We had a great stay - very comfortable bed and wonderful blackout curtains. We flew in very early in the morning and as it had been raining, we decided to try to drop off our luggage earlier than we were originally planning as there was a break in the rain. The staff were great and let us check in early (around 11am) as our room was ready which was much appreciated. Parking though not on site was very close by and convenient. Room and bathroom were very clean and fresh - not dated which for an old building i thought the photos might not be accurate but was very clean and modern / updated. The complimentry drink at the hennessy bar was a great surprise - we stayed a saturday night and was quite a vibe. We stayed here two nights, and then for another part of our trip we stayed at the avani residences but much preferred Mayfair. Would definitely stay here again!

Hotel was in a good location, parking was $65 per day which is expensive, but we used valet. I was so disappointed we couldn’t use the rooftop bar, which is why we booked 2 nights there. Being 8 of us we wanted to sit for a drink before going to dinner but it is only open Friday & Saturday night

Since Changing Hands Recently , I have noticed the following:

1.The Hennessy RooftopBar is no Longer open during the week , Not Good for Business Travellers.

2. I was given a voucher to be used there for a free welcome drink. However as I stayed on a Wednesday, it was closed. I could have used it in The Den downstairs they said, but that also closed at 9pm on a Wednesday Night. Again, this is not good enough for Business Travellers needs or just those in general that would like a night cap. 0pm is for nursing homes.

3. Breakfast is now only available from7am.Once again, this is not suited toBusiness Travellers who need to start at 6am as it used to, so they can get on with their day, or may have early flights to catch.

Its almost as though they offer theses inclusions so you return and book, but now fu=ind them hard to use.

Sadly, after 5 years I will be considering other hotels from today forward for my next trip I think that offer Better amenity, and there are a myriad of new Players in the Adelaide market atm.

Hotel is very comfortable for families. Our twin room was fantastic very spacious. Wonderful amenities especially the Complimentary mini bar. Recommend a visit to the hotels Hennessey Roof top bar great vibe.
Location is fantastic right in the hustle and bustle of Adelaide. Rundal Mall at your doorstep for shopping. You can walk to Adelaide Oval to watch the footy with the Casino close by as well with restaurants and another roof top bar called Sol. Well done Mayfair Hotel we will definitely be back.

I often stay here for sorter work trips. Convenient central location. Prefer the rooms on higher floors and to the side or back away from King William Street. Comfortable bed. Tv is old and not inspiring to watch with movie all paid, but means I get out and about instead.

The rooms are not overly clean- lots of dust. The tv in the room is horrible. It would not respond to the remote easily - very delayed. Also you can’t connect your device to the tv like other hotels to stream. You have to pay for movies - old school and limited and faulty as wouldn’t always play the movie. Had to call reception to have Maintence come up. Even then it struggled to work. The Mayfair reception staff didn’t even know the in room iPad could book a taxi. As we booked one for advance and it hadn’t been actioned. The prices of the rooms is over priced in my view for the quality and amenities provided. The breakfast was average. Waffles were always out of stock at the buffet and not refilled.

Nice spot but as a regular returning customer, you don’t feel that. House Keeping was slack and rubbish, empty glasses from the previous night, were not cleared away every night for 3 nights. room service finished and we were unable to order drinks, which we used to be able to and they no longer do champagne by the glass. It’s the small things that matter and we won’t be returning.

This stay was a significant disappointment. The furniture, carpets, and bathroom walls were noticeably stained and unclean, and it was uncomfortable to sit at the end of the bed. The air conditioning failed to adequately cool the room, while the hallways and lobby were uncomfortably cold. We also experienced ongoing issues obtaining hot water in the shower.

I do not usually leave negative reviews; however, this property is marketed as a luxury accommodation and, at $350 per night, we expected a far higher standard. These concerns were raised with reception during our stay. This visit was intended to be a special occasion, which made the experience particularly disappointing. Even basic details, such as displaying the correct guest name on the television, were incorrect. Overall, the general upkeep and attention to detail were well below expectations.

Room was nice enough, but the hotel overall wasn't 5*. It felt like we were an inconvenience to all of the staff we encountered at the front desk. Breakfast was average, most items cold and dry. We had to ask for refills of coffee and milk if we needed it, this wasn't done as part of housekeeping. Staying here just felt more 'hard work' than it needed to.

Hotel is very nice and modern. Our room was very spacious and clean.
We were unsure about the parking situation on arrival (and could not park outside the hotel prior to check-in). We ended up parking in the nearby Wilson parking and then spoke to staff about that upon check-in. It ended up being a very easy process and staff validated our parking ticket for the duration of our stay - perhaps clear information about this can be provided to guests before arrival at the hotel.
The rooftop bar was very nice - but does require more formal clothes. Perhaps more casual clothing could be allowed between certain times (i.e. before 6pm).
Would stay here again.

There was a suspicious mark rubbed on a fixture above the toilet that i couldnt get over. Shower was clean but the hairs left over from someone else bugged me too. I paid around 500 for this room on nye. Definitely wasnt worth it.

Hotel is beautiful. Room was amazing, very spacious for a city hotel. Very clean and had everything we needed. Hotel had a modern feel but had character too.
Breakfast was hit and miss. Breads felt stale and so did the muffins and pastries, they were very dry. I did mention it to the waitress but she didnt bring any fresh ones out.
The cooked breakfast was plentiful and you can order other egg's and omlettes separately which was good.
Great location, close to everything so you can walk everywhere or get the free tram.
We'll definitely stay here again and recommend it.

Mismatched furniture, walls in the bathrooms dirty, pillows flat, the sofa was budget, chair dirty with gross stain, the bathrobes were so cheap and dirty I couldn’t touch them.
Staff not particularly friendly or helpful.
Would not recommend.

The hotel is in a perfect location for exploring Adelaide. It’s close to the museums, central market (15 mins walk), China Town and the main train station for trains to Port Adelaide.

The rooms are very comfortable and traditional in style with large beautifully done bathrooms. The room was also very quiet despite being near a lift.

A bonus was the complimentary drinks and snacks in the mini bar, which we only realised on the penultimate day of our stay!!

We had a wonderful stay at the Mayfair Hotel in Adelaide. Check-in was quick and efficient, and our room was clean, comfortable, and beautifully presented. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, and the rooftop bar was gorgeous — the perfect spot to unwind. The only hiccup was that our luggage was accidentally placed in another guest’s room, but staff resolved it quickly. Overall, a delightful experience and we’d happily stay again!
