When we got there our room key would not unlock the door. They had to come and put a battery in to get auto lock to work with our card. The hotel staff was not all that helpful. The room had poor lighting and not enough towels. Our room was never cleaned and we were never given fresh towels. We had no hot water to speak of. It was like warm more on cold side. The pool was nice but the swim up bar was never open. They do not exchange currency so make sure you have colones. The restaurant was ok and food was decent but be prepared to wait. Overall very overpriced for what you get.

Bed and pillows were bad. The room is spacious but badly arrange. TV of like 29\" it was imposible to even read the subtitles and sound was the wors. It was not a luxury payment but it looks like a luxury hostel not an Hotel in a Premium club.

The hotel is next to a mini market and POPs ice cream store. It also walking distance from playas mantas. The pool is large and nice. The restaurant is mediocre at best. Unfortunately, there are no other options for food, other than the hotel restaurant and maybe one more place. We had to drive to the main road in order to get other restaurant choices.

THIS HOTEL IS SCAM ADVERTISING.! Do not fall for it Be aware. The hotel Does NOT have access to thewhite and most beautiful beach in the punta Leona property. We never stsyed at it as we were humiliated disrespect we by 2 of security guards on punta leona beach as we got there and were humiliated by not weAring Punta leona hotel bracelets thats the only has the access to this beach onnpunta leona property. We were with 2 kids 10 yo and the guard on punta leona beach harrased us for not having bracelets from punta leona hotel but having non acess allowed from.this hotel. They did not refubd us till then and we NEVER stayed at this hotel as per what happened on the beach that day, as I managed the same day to book punta leona hotel with its beach access. Do nNOT fall for this scam hotel advertising! Stay aware. The guard on punta leone beach offered us to walk 15 miles on the ocean back to thus hotel since he was humiliating us in front of our crying 2 kids and didnt allow us to even take thr bus back to this hotel....kids born in CR, spoke perfect Spanish and we did too. It never helped us to get a refund from this hotel as Expedia said the hotel never answered thrm what happened. Please DO NOT BOOK this place . Scam.

Many things wrongs. The layout sucks, broken elevator, poor directions inside the complex very easy to get lost. Not enough lights in the pool area once it gets dark…. Infestation of mosquitoes!!! Good resultant good prices, good food/breakfast, good staff. Nice pool. Bring mosquito repellent.

Hoye Arenas does not longer have an agreement with Punta Leona which means the only beach access is now Playa Mantas and you have to either pay the regular parking if you get any spot cause is pack during weekends or walk there from the hotel as is no longer offering transportation. Really Arenas just provides the pool and sells a closer location to the beach but no beach access at all. I’m not sure I’ll go back as least not during high season

Rented two rooms,one of them the air conditioner was not working,asked them to give us another room,they refused and said that we had to wait for someone to look at it,took them 4 hours. Also next day there were no water for 2 hours.

We have stayed at Punta Leona numerous times but now they have shut off access to playa blanco as well as to the pools and restaurants. The continental breakfast for Arenas is good but used to be a lot better. It cost us $100 extra per day to have access to the beach and lunch at the club. We also had open exposed wires under our sink in the bathroom which was a little worrisome especially for electrocution hazards.

The pool area was great, but you cannot access Playa Blanca, so its name is misleading, the beach is far away an you have to pay 7000 colones for parking, so this is a hotel to stay at the pool but a beach one

La atencion es buena. Pero me parece muy mal que pongan imagenes como si la playa estuviese frente al hotel y no es asi. Y si decides ir a la playa no tienen baños asi que tus unicas opciones son: Pagar parqueo e ir a playa Mantas o utilizar el parqueo gratis que ofrece el hotel pero luego montarte al carro con tu familia mojados y llenos de sal y arena. La Piscina muy bonita, PERO NO HABIA SALVAVIDAS.

Overall pretty good. Good service at the restaurant. At 9am on Saturday morning a guest was blasting terrible music at the pool for all to hear, really disturbing the peace. Alerted the reception workers, who said they would come talk to him, but never did. Disappointing.

Me gustó mucho la limpieza del hotel , lo amplio de la habitación , el restaurante físicamente y también la comida estuvo muy bien .
Los que se debe mejorar : en algunas partes de las paredes de la piscina vimos manchas negras (parece hongos) y en cuanto a la habitación tuvimos problemas con la temperatura del agua de la ducha , hay mucha variación de presión y eso hace que haya variaciones en la temperatura del agua.

It has the beach close but it does not have an easy access to Playa Blanca which is something really bad, so I’d say this place is just for 1 or 2 nights maximum.

Excellent location. It could be better if they have something that allow clients go to white beach (Playa Blanca) through the street. Sometimes the swell does not allow go there. The magic of white beach (Playa Blanca) will make you wish never leave.

We changed last minute. The place is great for an all inclusive & family trip especially with children. The staff is VERY friendly & food excellent ( and plenty of it)

We found this place as a same night booking (we checked in within one hour of booking it). Because of that the hotel was kinda unprepared for us. What made it harder was they didn't have a working internet connection. This made our check-in an hour+ process. But the staff was very patient and were genuinely trying to make it as quick as they could. They didn't hold us up for payment (because the lines were down) but let us in with 2 adjacent rooms overlooking the pool on one side and the trees + parking on the other.
The pool is the highlight of the place + the open bar. It's an all inclusive. Breakfast is typical rice beans , fruit, .. good coffee. Lunch and dinner have more variety but for vegetarians it's again the rice +beans. You do tend to want variety after eating that for a day.

It is what it is when you go to a place like this. I didnt expect much but i expected more food options and for an all inclusive if you want to eat after 10 your pretty limited to nothing.

The rooms were always clean and neat. The shower had very hot water. The staff did their best to make sure our stay was just what we wanted. Carlos and Jorge went above and beyond to set up tours, fishing and a private taxi for a day. Marciella was so much fun at the pool. Sensi and Perla were wonderful in the restaurant. When we brought our fresh tuna in from fishing the chef went out of his way to prepare our catch for us. This is a very family oriented hotel. The buffet even had a special section for Los Ninos. Most of the staff spoke English. They helped us with our Spanish pronunciations patiently and courteously. We loved it there!

When I read the reviews of this hotel I was honestly quite concerned, but my stay was non-refundable so my cousin and I headed there with the intention of maxing out the all-inclusive aspect and spending most of our time at the beach.
This is what I discovered: Hotel Arenas has no right to charge the amount of money they do for the overall quality of the hotel itself and the food. However, if they were to lower their prices a bit they would be much better value and I would happily stay there again.
The whole place is just a bit shabby, too shabby for the amount of money it charges. When I opened the mini-fridge in my room the liner fell off completely. The sheets and towels both had stains. The lighting is hideous. The lounge chairs all had cracks in the slats (the one I sat in on our final morning actually broke while I was sitting in it), the pool tiles have some green algae growing in them and the concrete ramp leading down the pool bar was slippery and dangerous. The food was geared mostly towards locals (and even that was somewhat overcooked) and the breakfast was definitely better than the dinner. For a hotel that opened in the last decade and charges upwards of $200 a night, NONE of this should be happening.
That being said, the staff were kind and helpful, the drinks were tasty, the pool was a very good temperature and the loud music stopped playing at a reasonable time for families to go to bed. The hotel is a decent walk from Playa Mantas, which is great.

Wireless was non-existent most of the time. It is kind of in the middle of nowhere so not a good place to not have service. It was crowded but it was new years eve so understandable, but i had almost no water pressure most of my stay I'm talking barely a trickle. The eating areas for the all inclusive were not air conditioned so sweating and eating is not cool. Food was good, the new years eve party was fun and food was very good. Beds were not great but i slept alright. Staff was very attentive.

if you want some musics and party, the hotel is great for you. but if you want some relexation, it's not for you. They put loud music and movie (in the night time) at the pool, and rooms are so close to pool. and I also expect some drinks or food in the room (because it's all inclusive), but only two bottles of water were there for our 2 night stay. We called 3 times to get more water, but ignored. so i ran down to the front desk to get water

Also, very close to the pol area, which can be very loud with kids and music. If you are looking to get some rest, this is not the place for you.

Simple hotel in a quiet location
I stayed at Hotel Arenas alone and found that it was very quiet during the week but much busier at weekends. I feel this hotel is best suited for shorter stays as the food available does not vary greatly so it can become a little boring. The staff are friendly and helpful, although few speak English so bear this in mind. The room was clean with a good working tv and fridge. I felt that the food could be of better quality and note that when the hotel is particularly quiet there is only an a la carte menu available, which is the same each day for both lunch and dinner. The pool is a good size with plenty of seating but this does fill up quickly at the weekend when busiest. There is not much to do in the area but I would definitely recommend a walk to Playa Mantas. Local shop is convenient and pizzeria is average quality but good service.

Am from Costa rica and eent to this hotel with my parents. Amazing service all the staff will be there to help you. Beautiful location very close to San Jose ( about an hour and a half). Clean and neat rooms.

I loved the nature around the hotel very much. Food is catered towards the local people, but there was always some food that I enjoyed. It was noisy so I had to use white noise to filter the noise. Wi-fi in my room was weak so I had to go to the lobby a lot to have a better speed. Staff were very warm and friendly. Overall I enjoyed my stay.
