Situated on the Pacific Ocean on top of a mountain, at a height 350 metres, guests can enjoy 360-degree panoramic views over the Gulf of Nicoya from the islands up to the Nicoya peninsula and to the beautiful beaches of Jaco and Herradura. The rainforest slopes stretch down to the hotel's private quiet sandy beach.
Guests will find links to the public transport network 8 km from the beach hotel, Carara National Park 11 km away and Manuel Antonio National Park 85 km away. This boutique hotel is inspired by tropical architecture with a touch of Victorian neo-classical influence.
The hotel shines among its competitors like a jewel, appreciated not only for its location, but also for its design, decoration and service. Guests are also attracted to the unique combination of a mountain and beach resort.

Pleasantly surprised given the negative reviews. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Great reception and concierge, very helpful. Despite what some people say the restaurant served high quality food for both breakfast and dinner. The service was quick and attentive without being too on your face. Every member of staff we met were friendly. Our room no 2 was well positioned for the pool, bar and restaurant. The icing on the cake are the views which are spectacular. Easily the best hotel of our Costa Rica tour.

Mixed feelings about the resort. We are in our mid-50’s and in normal shape. Our room was a villa, #27. It was the third from last furthest from pool/restaurant area, and it was 100% uphill climb when leaving our room / or downhill when going to the room. It was 50 stairs and 360 paces/strides, again uphill.
However, the walk was covered by a roof or vegetation most of the time if it would rain and the path. It was aggregate and stone and was beautiful.
There is one restaurant and impossible to get a reservation once we arrived, so make them weeks in advance of arriving! I think a lot of this is due to other people not staying at the resort that come for the sunset or view. For example, could not get a reservation till 8:30PM but since the sunset was bad that night no one showed up so we were able to get a table last minute. When there is a gorgeous sunset it took us 45 min to get a cocktail to see the sunset. Horrible for those of us staying there! We should have a priority over others. Food was great!
Saw some wildlife but was expecting more. Macaws would fly by but fairly far away. Monkey at pool tree twice at 2:00. Ask front desk to take you on a cart ride to see where Macaws nests are so you can walk there other days to see.

The restaurant is way too expensive, and I'm not saying this blindly, you can tell the food quality is below average. (We are locals, we know what you can buy and how much it costs).
We got bread during our lunch, they gave us toasts, and clearly from the day before or who knows when. We order a hamburger and a pita, the bread wasn't totally fresh. The oil used for the French fries was cheap smelly oil, a nightmare for the stomach. We got sick.
We order a couple of Aperol Spritz (priced at $24 each, not even in Europe), the proportions and the mix were totally wrong, it was almost all prosecco and was missing enough Aperol. I know this because I make my own drinks, and my best friend is freaking good at it, so we've been studying the recipe for over a year.
When I told the waiter about it, he asked me what's wrong, I tried to explain, and when I told him it wasn't properly mixed, he replied back, saying that was normal because of the liquor density... I came out rude saying I wasn't going to argue with him about how to do it, that we wanted a new drink. He insisted on knowing what was wrong or he was going to be charged for it.
So that tells me that restaurant is poorly managed, I told him if that was the case then I'll pay them, but he said it was fine, that he already talked to his boss.
The restaurant killed it for us, not planning on going back.

It's a beautiful hotel. Not a lot to do at the hotel. It was the slow season. Beautiful pool. The staff was very friendly and accommodating when we found a huge spider and some bugs in our first room. They upgraded us to a villa, no extra charge.

It is one of the most beautiful and romantic spots in Costa Rica. The stunning views are legendary. But there is a lot of stairs and incline, so be prepared. But don’t miss this beautiful place.

I booked this room based on the amazing review but I overall had a mixed experience !
Positive- the good part of this property is the location, it’s very near Jaco beach and around bunch of restaurants . The views from the room and restaurant is amazing and you would really njoy the sunsets .
We also loved the architecture it was really nice, the lobby, room decor and the terrace. The room cleaning staff was meticulous and made nice cute design of towels each day for us.
Negative-
1. It seems we arrived during a wedding event . I would expect a 4 star hotel to plan accordingly . However we had to park quite far from the reception as the parking was full . Note we were not super late to check in we had arrived, around 4 pm. Secondly we were told they could sit us for dinner only after 8 pm due to the wedding . We had booked months in advance they should have planned better.
2. During dinner we were told that there is nothing vegetarian except 1 salad. In today’s date for a 4 star property not having any vegetarian option was really disappointing. The person who took the order also did not offer anything like a pasta with no meat or something. We are global travelers and in our experience, such restaurants ( where there is nothing vegetarian ) - generally they offer to cook the same dish but without meat, here they did nothing ! Very disappointing !
We ended up getting good food from Jaco which was cheaper :)

Place was very clean and nice, but that’s about it. Hot water didn’t work so we took cold showers. Asked one guy and told him what room we were in and he said he’d let them know. Never got fixed. Water for the toilet ran at all times. I tried to fix it because I was still waiting on them to fix the shower but that didn’t happen, so I gave up and just let it run. I’ve been going there for years to the pool and pool bar and never had an issue. I had read some reviews about bad service but I didn’t think it would be that bad. I was wrong, it was horrible. The dining was not good, food quality or service. I wasn’t even going to leave any kind of review until I finally had enough today. My wife went to the pool bar to order us some drinks and no staff was there. Waited 10 mins and still nothing, so she went upstairs to the bar by the restaurant. The bartender told her he’d be down there in a few. 22 minutes later, still no bartender. Went back upstairs to order drinks, and she finally came down with a beer that was barely chilled, was more warm than chilled. So I went upstairs and the other bartender was apologetic but at that point I wasn’t happy. It’s frustrating paying a premium at what seems like the nicest place in Jaco area and have that bad of food, service, etc. I will never again go there and I've been going there since 2017. Sad to see such a nice place be such a disappointment.

The Villa Caletes is one of my favorite places. The setting and views are amazing. The hotel is exquisite- with architecture matching some of the most luxury inns in the world. It does not disappoint in this regards. I was somewhat disappointed with the bed this time. I could feel and hear the springs. I will be back for the view but might stay elsewhere.

Very beautiful location. The views from this property are stunning. We had a private hot tub with our room and that was great to have. The restaurant was nice, a little pricey and they didn’t offer a free breakfast. Parking is also a little awkward and it’s not within walking distance to anything. We had a car and were able to come and go without a problem. But the property itself, gorgeous. The rooms were clean and beautiful and the staff were all very friendly! Would definitely recommend.

This was like visiting a hotel from the twilight zone. The grounds are well maintained and the views are beautiful but the rooms are in a terrible shape. The room we got smelled poorly, the furnitures were run down, hardware in the crowded bathroom were broken and rusty. The linens were thin from use, far from white crispy linens you would expect from a 5 stars hotel that charges $600 per night off season. The room decor was extremely distasteful in tacky red and black, so dated. The room is located where you cant access carts so getting to the room was steep and slippery, having to get to it in a really rainy weather, felt unsafe. The door keys didn’t work, power dropped, wifi reception is inconsistent. Staff at the front desk was standoffish, didn’t offer a different room despite asking a few times. It was so unpleasant we tried to avoid staying in the room except for sleep I was extremely uncomfortable there. Total waste of money. Service was inconsistent, restaurant was ok. If you want to see the views pay for a day pass. So disappointed. See pictures attached: the pics on the site are misleading.

The property itself is breathtaking. The staff is top notch! Unfortunately the original hiking trail was closed due to the country’s struggle to get back to normal after the pandemic.

This is a five star hotel in my book. The property is beautiful, the staff are extremely helpful and friendly, the food and service at the restaurant are top notch. We celebrated our anniversary there and moved tables twice. Once we moved away from a table with small children that was noisy. Then we moved again to be inside. Once inside the temp was still warm so they turned on the AC for us. There only concern was our comfort and experience at their hotel. Hotels of comparable price, in the states would never do this. It was an amazing stay and we plan to return there for a longer stay for our 10th anniversary.

Hotel Villa Caletas is in an incredible location with amazing views. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We ended up shortening to 5 of originally booked 6 days because the hotel had some shortfalls: the overall look-and-feel is of a place that is decaying and requiring maintenance; not as many options for food; the location by the \"beach\" is beautiful but not properly a beach, and in urgent need of care; one night, there was no warm water (it seems it has a dependency on the air conditioner to stay on to warm up the water); the toilet has a water leak as well as the faucets; the small fridge was very noisy at night; despite staying in the top \"Superior Junior Suite\", we were not impressed.

Wow! This place is just beautiful. There are flowers everywhere. The views and grounds are stunning. The private beach is nice, but the hot tub wasn’t in operation there. The stonework on property with the rich landscaping sets it apart. There were only a few people here when we stayed so it was almost like having it as a private villa. The views from the villa were great, and even the jetted tub and bathroom had the same view.

The views were absolutely amazing! The staff was friendly and helpful. I’ve never seen someone deep clean a room daily, which included changing bed sheets daily too. I didn’t even have to ask for towels. I am definitely going to stay here again on my next visit to back.

Excellent! Second time I stayed here. The first time was at the castle and this time at the villas on the opposite side. Very peaceful. The fellows that work at the pool and restaurant are wonderful. Very friendly and being I am an amateur photographer, they were quick to get my attention as to the best spots to find beautiful birds and other creatures around the grounds. And yes, I will stay again!

Our stay at Villa Caletas was amazing! The entire time we were there we felt cared for and enjoyed the luxurious property. The rooms are spacious and amazing. We had a junior suite overlooking the ocean and it took our breath away. Every meal we had at the restaurant was delicious as well! It was about 1.25 hours from Manuel Antonio so that made for a fun day trip. We cannot wait to come back another Time.

Villa Caletas is a beautiful hotel. Their shared pool area is gorgeous, spa treatments were exquisite and the food was very good. There is only one restaurant on site and we were there for 6 nights, so ended up exploring Jaco and Playa Hermosa for dinner some nights. I definitely recommend getting to the Amphitheater around 5 pm for an early dinner and cocktail to watch the epic sunset. The staff around the grounds is very friendly and helpful. I would absolutely recommend anyone to stay here.

The views from the hotel are amazing! Truly breathtaking... However, the staff was VERY slow and not attentive. Also, the room had dust ,dead bugs and the hallways had broken picture frames. Not sure if it was because of Covid and reduced staff, but it really does it matter - the customers pays the same rate, so you do expect what you are promised.

Anyone who has anything negative to say about this place was hired by one of their competitors. I was there by myself and aside from being the only gringo and only traveler who wasn’t there with a wife or on a honeymoon the staff was very helpful and friendly. The most unique place I’ve ever stayed. Like a 5 star hotel in a jungle treehouse. I saw a few negative reviews on trip advisor about people who found a spider in their room or whatever and yeah it’s a jungle so if you’re dumb enough to leave your windows or doors open that could happen but it would be the guests fault. The other funny thing is that most of the people who left a bad review started off with “I stay at 5 star hotels all over the world”. No offense but people who really stay at 5 star hotels around the world are doing much better things than leaving bad reviews for great places. I’m exempt because this is a positive review , but I’ve stayed at castles in Ireland to presidential suites in Vegas and Dubai and Villas Caletas was easily one of the best for scenery, professional staff, and overall comfort. My Spanish is mediocre at best and it didn’t matter at all. Would recommend this place to anyone

We loved the infinity pool. Did not like the location of our rooms. The rooms had a lovely view but were very far away from pool and restaurant and the walk was uphill. Definitely not suited for anyone wiyh mobility issues.
