Excellent place to lay down and relax. It is quiet, mainly for honeymooners and adults. The place is clean and comfortable.
Food is excellent and the staffs are very friendly.
The pool-bartenders are great.
I highly recommend this hotel.

my overall experience was good, the room was really nice, and clean, the ac was ok not great it took a whole day to drop the temperature to only 71, the restaurants and bars were good to, but i have to said we enjoy more the service and the food at the Catalonia bayahibe the family side of the hotel, you could have better attention from the staff, but that does not mean that at royal the service were bad absolutely no.
in general i have a really good time, i would go again

Wonderful beach. Staff were friendly. Food was good but often overcooked. Room was clean. Hotel website lacked information when we were booked (i.e. early check-in, room amenities, entertainment)and messages to hotel were not answered. Once there and logged on their site, it showed closed restaurants and didn't show room service menu.

The property is beautiful, very well maintained. The landscape is amazing. It is a pleasure to walk around and see the variety of plants and vegetation.
The only disappointment is the quality of the food. While it was ok in the buffets, jusk ok - the \"specialty\" restaurant were extremely mediocre. A great place like this should be proud of their food and restaurants. We spoke to other guests and they all agreed the food and quality in the restaurants could be much better to make this an unbelievable resort

I would rate this resort with the following stars:

5 star for personel service and kudos to Angel the golf cart Driver, David the time share Promoter, Bartenders Jessica, Gabriel and the Best one not sure of her name at the main adults only pool Mariolis? the bartender.

5 Facilities where really nice and manicured

3 stars for food in general, breakfast was the best, we tried some of the a la carte restaurants like Bloved and Toscana, in one of them they offered grouper and gave us red snaper instead without telling us, The food in general was just like banquet hall food Very lame.

3 Star for The room. We purchased an upgrade to access to the pool directly from the room was a big plus. But we had to kill more them 8 little tiny cockroaches and the bed was too hard for comfort.

Beach- Best in the DR! We never had an issue finding a palapa after breakfast. The towel stand was beside the sushi bar that smelled like sewage.

Food- We thoroughly enjoyed the food at the adult buffet (Monday and Friday only for dinner; daily breakfast). The pastries were fresh. Lunch at La Isla-chicken burger and potato wedges were our favorite. Dinner at Tao Cat was the best. The sampler & pork with sweet and sour. Rodeo steakhouse was a total bust. Service was very slow & pork skewers were undercooked. Cheesecake was good.Reservations were usually required for the a la carte restaurants.

Drinks- Caipirinha with double Leyenda rum was our go to. Margarita & champagne were also good. Lobby bar closes at 1am!

Entertainment- there was usually live music or some type of show until 11pm. Kept us entertained from our balcony most nights while we smoked cigars.

Room- Very spacious and clean. Maid staff was sooo friendly. The shower is large enough for 4 people and has double shower sprayer and rain head showers. We didn't realize until the end that there are 2 maids (morning & nightly turndown) who serviced our room. We tipped both. They provide water soda, beer, peanuts, oreos. Hand soap vs bar soap.

Negatives - I wish there was a late night snack bar. They have pastries during the day at the lobby bar but not nightly. When you're drinking until 1am, you need fries, chicken tenders, pizza, etc to soak up the alcohol. Room service had next to nothing after 10pm.

The service was terrible and the food was mediocre. Furthermore, the attitude of the staff was atrocious and disrespectful. The cups, cutlery, and plates were dirty and smelled putrid from being either unwashed or poorly washed. Not to mention, the drinks were insulting while the only worthwhile enjoyment was the beach for how clean and clear it was. In conclusion, there are much better hotels in Dominican Republic compared to this one.

The staff is very rude and they take their time to wait on you. Unlike Punta Cana with the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The maintenance in the grounds are impeccable. My wife got food poisoning the last day. The biggest problem with this resort is the staff. Very unwelcoming and very unfriendly.

This resort has the most beautiful beach you could ever find. Unfortunately, this is the only reason the come here. The other amenities are good but are just like any other resort. The food is also just okay. In fact, during our stay we got very sick from the food for two days. Outside of the beach, swimming, sailing, scuba diving and snorkeling their is not more to do or see here.

The best by far was our cleaning lady, who was always happy to help us in any way she could. However, to have a rather \"standard\" service when you paid for a premium one, really does not go according to expectations (or even what was promised).
It was good, but we will not be back. There are better options for the same price, and even some cheaper alternatives too.

We enjoyed our 5- night stay at this hotel. Our duplex room with private pool had everything we wished for and even more ! The maid provided the necessary services. We spend time on the beach with white sand and turquoise water .. had diving and snorkelling tours .. had fine dining in the hotel’s restaurants .
Minor inconvenience were loud evening shows. Although some guests enjoyed entertainment, we would prefer this activity would not be next to the private guest rooms.

A good beach and excellent swimming. Lots of trees and well-kept vegetation, lots of birds. Good selection of alcohol. Quick response from the front desk to requests or complaints.

Cons
Almost complete lack of knowledge of English, poor training of employees, familiarity, instead of service constant loud conversations with each other, over the heads of guests. So-called music thundered from everywhere, literally killing guests privacy. The quality of food is below average, we had to change dishes several times. Once in a restaurant, appetizers and main courses were served to us at the same time. There is no knowledge and professionalism in making cocktails.
Monstrous taste in interior designs and furniture.

I stayed at Adult only side. Property was well maintained,clean in every area. Staffs were very polite,warm & accommodating in every section. Food was excellent at the buffet as well as a la carte restaurants, specially at Beloved restaurant, superb dishes & service. Beach was kept clean daily by ground staffs & multiple staffs from cafes on the beach delivered drinks,water to guests with amazing manner.
I've been going to this area for over a decade in different hotels but Catalonia Royal is by far better than any others, even better than much higher cost place like Hilton La romana. Looking forward to going back soon.

Long review but I hope someone finds it helpful.
The Room: we had a swim up suite. The room was well kept and clean. There was no hair dryer but you can request one. The \"mini bar\" consisted of sprite coke and 2 very small beers. The \"snacks\" consisted of 2 small packs of peanuts and one pack of oreos. They replaced the peanuts but not the oreos. The shower had wonderful water pressure. They have shower gel and conditioning shampoo - no actual conditioner. The AC worked really well. The bed was extremely hard so not what I prefer but if you like feeling like you're sleeping on a sheet of plywood this is the bed for you. Our room was right next to the Plaza which meant we got to listen to the thumping music all night. Not a huge deal except on the nights we had to be up early the next day for excursions. The pool was smaller than I'd of expected but still okay. Note they do not have any complimentary floaties so bring your own pool loungers.

The Food: the food was about 50/50. Some was very tasty and great. Some was just horrible, I even had to send some back and order something else which is extremely rare for me. For my personal preference, there were not enough options for food and the hours kind of suck. Dinner requires a reservation which also in my opinion, sucks. 1 because I'm on vacation I don't want to plan every moment of my day and 2 if we had food that was gross it's not like you can just hope over to a different restaurant to eat something different. Beautiful Beach, Ocean, & Property...A lot left to be desired.

The beach and the ocean were amazing, truly world class white sand and water with amazing sunsets. You had to get a chair early to ensure you had a space to enjoy for the day, but we always managed. The beach bars were relatively easy to navigate and occasionally had serves taking orders. We didn't spend much time in the pools, but there was plenty of seating and seemed peaceful.

Rooms: We paid for the 2-floor suite with a plunge pool. The rooms are well appointed and modern and really quite enjoyable. The real downside is that the hotel holds their evening entertainment in the common area below these specific rooms (only on one block of rooms had these type of rooms on the property) and if you wanted to go to bed before 11 it was nearly impossible. Just be warned if you do book these rooms that it will likely be very loud. The rooms were clean and in spite of some mixups with no soap left or toilet paper in a bathroom (just once) the cleaning service was commendable.

Food: In general, it was not good. You never go to an all-inclusive thinking the food will be great, but this was particularly unappetizing. The Royal Catalonia specific restaurants for lunch were better than the other spots for lunch & dinner, but don't expect much.

Staff: Some of the bar staff had moments of friendliness, but in general there were a number of forgotten requests or long delays in service when seated for a meal.

I was in the adults only hotel and everything is perfect except i wish they would put at least a low volume music at the bar cause after 9:30pm there’s nothing to do but go to your room. The bar is silent and you have no desire to have a drink. Feels like a funeral. They could put a very low music so the guests can enjoy while sitting by the bar and unwind.

Okay stay. Property was clean and organized. The beach was fantastic! The workers were attentive and quick. We had a swim out room which I always try to do. Swim out pool was very dirty. The room fridge was barely stocked. Im mostly disappointed in dinner options. Everything is by reservation except for the buffet. We stood in front of the itailian restraunt barely anyone eating and were told they were fully booked. The only thing that saved our trip was the beach was beautiful. We have stayed in punta cana many times and and the beach did not compare to this one, we recommend Dominicus/Bayahibe/La Romana.

I enjoyed the cleanliness of the hotel; the staff was friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed the beach the most. The beach is the highlight of the entire Catalonia - La Romana - crystal clear water! The adults-only section is good, but once it's time for dinner/eating you will be merged with the family-friendly hotel. Personally, I didn't mind it at all though. The downside was the buffet breakfast, I would give the breakfast buffer a 6/10. The only time I'd rate the food 10/10 would be when we had dinner at Beloved.

Our stay at La Romana started with a room that was not cleaned properly and smelled stale. It was also not the picture of the room I booked. They moved us the next day. The second room, the air conditioning wouldn't shut off. We had to have blankets to sleep under. The maintenance person showed up, he turned the thermostat down. Oh, like we didn't think of that! It didn't work. The meals were decent, but their take on Asian was a joke. Waiters are busy talking to each other, for the most part, not engaging. Being badgered to join their travel club got old fast. And then having to watch a 50/60 year old drunk couple have sex in the pool was the disgusting end to our trip. Seeking out management, their reply was 'they could not control other guests actions'. The 'manager' also lied to Expedia and told them she had spoken to the couple. We were outside the entire time, she didn't. We thought we were picking an adult location to enjoy serenity. That was NOT serene. And the hotels stance was pathetic. Apparently, our comfort didn't matter? Not being able to swim in a pool after watching THAT? And I've emailed Catalonia. Two canned replies later, I'm done. There are too many other beautiful resorts in the Dominican that will maybe actually care about your experience! Steer clear of this one.

My wife and I decided to spend few days in LaRomana. Catalonia was one of the choices our friends recommended to us.
We loved the room, dual showers, dual sink, even two safes. Room view was amazing as well.
Beach area and sea were exceptional. No a single seaweed, beautiful clear water, soft sand...
then time came for dinner, and everything started. this is not my first all-inclusive hotel, but Catalonia need to change serving game a bit. to get a cup of coffee you wait 15 minutes, and when it arrives, it is already cold.
If you decide to order tea, i think they send a jet to India to get a tea bag. Not too many fruit or vegetable choices at the buffet. To get local fruit, i had to beg waitress.
But sea and weather were amazing and we enjoyed it as much as we could.

We had to wait well over an hour past check-in for our room to be ready.
Grounds were nice and rooms were clean.
Do not expect wash cloths. We had to ask for them daily.
Food was hit or miss. Breakfast buffet at Thalassa was ok / good depending on the day. Dinner at Thalassa was not for me... Siwichi, Tao-Cat and La Isla snack bar were really good. The best was the beach day BBQ they had on Wednesday.
Staff was friendly. Erizon and Mariolis at the pool bar were the best!

Second time at this resort staying at the Royal, last was May 2019. Overall the resort met our expectations except for the restaurants. The quality of the evening dining options has dropped significantly, where most dinners were hardly edible leaving us no option but to grab something at a buffet. We are not picky eaters but flavorless, poorly prepared meals just are not exceptable. This is a very nice resort but this may have been our last visit unfortunately.

Hotel service is first class. Staff were very attentive and always with a positive vibe. So mamy amazing food options. I Deffinitely recommend to make your reservations for restaurants uppon check in. The room i booked was the swim up bedroom right across the pool bar, perfect location. Bayahibe is the best beach i've seen in Dominican Republica.

I would have rated everything at 5, because most everything was excellent. However, the horrible experience at check-in and how rude and unhelpful the front desk staff was, ruined the first day of our trip. It really seemed like Hery and Luz were enjoying being nasty. The fact that Expedia messed up the reservation didn't help either, but they did not want to assist at all without a lot of extra prompting. It was a very stressful and upsetting start to what was supposed to be a wonderful, relaxing vacation.

The rest of the staff and service at the hotel, was all great, from room service to spa to all restaurant staff. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. They are all helping to make the rest of our trip amazing.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The staff was great and friendly. There's a variety of restaurants and activities. Facilities a little dated but well maintained. There was construction on new facilities behind our room during the day. Beach was nice except for vendors soliciting.....Other than that we recommend learning some Español, to include myself. No seed weed on the beach during our stay. Weather was nice also.
