The room was so small. As a muscular person with broad shoulders, I had a difficult time maneuvering inside the small bathroom. The sink area was so small I could not fit in the space. The place is located in a homeless area and it felt scary at times walking to and from and even during the night. There is not elevator in the building so front end staff had to help me carry my big luggage to my room on the 3rd floor. The mini AC unit in the room made so much noise during the night I found it difficult to fall and stay asleep.

Staff wasn’t very helpful when I brought to his attention that the bathroom was falling apart, molded wood, shower dangling, floor board detached, screws exposed… incomplete shower tiling and that’s just the bathroom…

Unfortunately the only positive was the check in staff was very friendly and assuring the area was safe and the bed was comfortable. We were grateful when we arrived as the walk there was very uncomfortable (drugs/homeless). The hotel and room is very old and run down, very minimal. Spend the extra couple hundred to be closer to the main DT attractions.

We took the suite which was a basement room below the level of the road. This did mean that the traffic noise was minimal. The beds were comfortable. There was a kitchen included which was not well maintained. No cups, no spoons, just a kettle, microwave, fridge and freezer and a stove. The bathroom was miniscule. No attention to maintenance (toilet seat not fixed, plug in basin not working). This hotel really is on one of the worst streets in the city - not a nice place to be or to wander round. For what we paid it was a let down. Would definitely not stay again.

The Dundas streetcar stops right at the Hotel. Clean, basic accommodation. Front desk staff were friendly and intended to be helpful. Towels were changed out each day.

The nights were unusually chilly for mid-May and I couldn't get the AC/heating unit to blow warm air; front desk provided a second duvet but room was cold in the morning.

The selection of cable TV channels (Bell) is unusual and of little value -- CBC local channels from across Canada but no CBS, NBC, ABC or CNN.

Traffic noise from Dundas (sirens) went on past midnight, but fortunately I was NOT woken up in the middle of the night.

Staff was very helpful upon arrival and showed us to our rooms. The place was clean and well maintained. Only complaint is the bathroom was way too small and water got everywhere on the floor from the sink for being so small. Otherwise, my stay was quite pleasant for 1 night.

Somewhat of a sketchy area of town during the day but at night, it’s fine, perfectly safe no noisy people or street people or anything.

Hotel is in an older building but rooms are very clean good linens nice beds clean hallways. It was released expensive place in town and was better than most motel sixes or whatever you’ll see in this price range usually

The staff was super cheerful and polite . Thought they were great. I didnt have a great budget and it was last minute. The room had ac tv and a good bed. Pcs of the mwf were coming up. The bathroom toilet was a super snug fit to the door. And while I am positive it was clean, the discoloured grout in the shower was offputting. In a pinch it was ok. The staff I were the best Ive met at hotels

Historic small hotel located in south Cabbagetown area. Room was adequate size and clean. My room was quiet. Window air conditioner worked staff were friendly and helpful. Not sure about parking but unlikely, the streetcar stop conveniently just by the front door.. basic nothing fancy. I had a good stay

Very very small room extremely crowded for 2 and there is no parking available unless you find a parking on the side street very noisy very old building so nothing for sound control. Could hear the vacuum in the middle of the night running constantly filling up the coffee machine, ice maker, doors opening and closing all night. Very very uncomfortable and unsettled sleep. Had a 2-hour doctor's appointment and was quite exhausted before having to travel 5 and 1/2 hours home. Not worth the price page. Should have booked something a little more expensive for a better quality and sleep.

Absolutely loved it here, the staff were amazing and always catered to my needs. Two gentleman called Shazeb and Nick made my stay much more joyful.

They are the most down to earth guys I have ever met and i loved having conversations with them every time they were in. (Apologies if i bored you 😂😂)

I would 100% stay here again longer so i have more time to explore toronto.

All things said and done, this is by far the best place I’ve stayed at. I’m not talking about the amenities and the type of rooms. My visit to this hotel has been memorable because of the service. I really love the way I was treated. Love, respect and hospitality. I must say, if there’s one thing the Royal Oak Inn does right it’s hospitality. The front desk agent, Shaz, really did a good job and made sure he never said no any of my requests. He really understands the meaning of going above and beyond and has always exceeded expectations. Hats off!!!

The rooms were clean and the staff very helpful, but for two nights we had people in the room next to us arguing and talking loudly from about 2am till 6am 1st night and second night 2am and still going when we checked out at 6am next morning. The walls are very thin and you could hear everything. Safe to stay in at night, but do not walk around the area as we were told by uber and taxi drivers.

Three things to consider about the Royal Oak...

The hotel indicates in the Orbitz website that it offers free brekfast and is NOT TRUE. They don't even have anything to offer \"just a water dispenser\".
That is a serios deception that Orbitz needs to take in consideration.

The second factor about the hotel, it doesn't have an elevator, so if you are staying in the third floor prepare yourself. The fornt desk lady try to help. But the narrow staircase make it very difficult.

Third factor and the Hotel picures in Orbitz give you an impression that is not real about the location (too many homeless and drug addicts in the vicinity).

BEWARE: you have to walk through a CROWD of druggies acting like fools to get to the “hotel” - once inside the room smelled like fresh paint. In fact, the paint was so fresh my daughter got paint on her 😅 (what are they hiding?) - jump back before we got into the room, we couldn’t get checked in until MY 14 YEAR OLD daughter showed ID. What 14 year old has an ID? Terrible check in process. Thankfully we were only there to sleep & shower. Max 10 hours!! Will not be staying here again!

The description of the rooms were misleading. Our room did not have a refrigerator to start. Obtaining linen and towels seems to be a difficult task. All of our chargers were overheating immediately so that tells me something is wrong with the electrical. Our room did not actually lock, the door could have been easily pulled open if needed. I’ve never felt more dirty after leaving an establishment. There was a drain randomly in the middle of the bathroom floor where the cover kept coming off and me and my boyfriend almost sliced our feet a few times on it. There was mould in the washroom and an awful smell of must and bleach in the whole building. Would not recommend. Not to mention two people don’t have room to stand up in the room at the same time..

The staff and room was great especially for the cost vs the rest of the area- only word of caution is that you are about a city block to the East outside of the “nicer” area. Not a big deal- we walked west toward Jarvis/Yonge once and caught the bus the rest of the time. Even around midnight. I just wouldn’t bring my kids here to stay but for adults it works good!

No parking on site. You have to pay for off site. They had breakfast included when I reserved the room but have since cancelled it.
It’s a cheap room in the city that’s close to a lot of stuff.

I’ve stayed in worse…usually while camping
Sink had hair and clipped hair from (hopefully) the last person. Room wasn’t clean. No amenities - there was a bed a washroom and an ac unit. There was wifi. Bed was made. Sheets were gross. Stains all over them. Not saying I’m going to burn my clothes when I get home - not saying I’m not going to burn them. There is better out there (like a box, or pet carrier) and probably in a better part of town - unless you enjoy watching people on the street openly dealing and doing drugs.
The front counter staff were very polite.

Parking was very strange but since we were not driving in town it was adequate. The ventilation in the room was not good. The room was small and one would probably be comfortable if they were staying for a couple days as you adjust to the room size.
To be perfectly honest the neighborhood is very dicey and if that bothers one then you should not stay there.

I chose this hotel because it said parking was available. When we arrived to check in after 11pm we were told to go find parking somewhere in the neighbourhood. We had just driven through the neighbourhood and we would not have felt safe walking a couple of blocks with our luggage to get back to the hotel. We decided to just drive 3 hours to get back home. We were charged the security deposit but hoping to get that back.

Room is much smaller than pictures show. Not a very clean room, there were ants in the bathroom. Also not really their fault but it is quite noisy, so be aware of that. Also sketchy area and very limited parking which is not enclosed, it’s on the sidewalk. It’s an okay place for 1 night but wouldn’t really recommend

I booked the suite. I arrived at the hotel after dark and was told that the suite is not in the hotel itself, but is down the street at another building. I asked if I could switch for a room in the hotel they said they were full. The desk clerk helped me take my bags down the street and let me into a basement apartment of a row house.

It was clean but I didn't feel safe. The room door opened onto the street. There was another exterior door at the back of the unit with only a handle lock. There was another door that had a sign in it saying do not use this room, it is under maintenance. That felt sketchy.

I closed the bathroom door before going to bed and when I got up in the morning the bathroom door wouldn't open. The knob mechanism has fallen out while closed and made it stuck in the closed position. So I had to get fully dressed and walk up the street to use the bathroom at the main hotel.

As a woman traveling alone this whole situation made me uncomfortable. Had I known that I would be in the basement of a house and not in a staffed hotel I wouldn't have booked it. The staff were friendly and helpful but I was very uncomfortable all night and would not book here again.

Nice place, clean and tidy. Simple breakfast that I could take with me, coffee on the go, and everything I needed was there. The bed was comfortable, but the aircon was super noisy and aimed directly at the bed. There was screaming and fighting in the hallway outside my room, which scared me and kept me awake. Apparently this is not a good area of town, for those who dont know, pike me. But the tram does stop right in front of the door and I didnt feel unsafe necessarily.

Parking on a sidewalk was a challenge at first but I became a pro at the end of my stay. I didnt like the limited parking but I was guarantee a spot since I had already prepaid for my 6 days with the car there.
breakfast I dont eat but I didnt care for the limited options but I did not like how you had to place the order the night before. breakfast in general should be able to walk downstairs and grab it. but the hours were limited but again, I don't eat breakfast so I didnt care for it. the staff was nice, the room is fine, small issues here & there but the managers took best care of each situation I had with above and beyond attitude so I appreciate that.
