Clean and spacious room with fabulous view from the balcony. Shower was tiny and very dated. Lots of plumbing noises through the night disturbed our sleep. Breakfast decent with lots of fresh cake but the scrambled egg was watery and unappealing and many basic items such as bread often ran low and we had to ask to be replenished. Juice was awful. Lovely pool area with amazing view. Castelmola is lovely and the bus to Taormina stops directly outside the hotel. Overall a good stay.

Hotel is amazing, so many antiques and curiosity’s to look at. Very much old fashioned style. Stunning views, quiet location. Book an Etna view room as away from the road. Lots of choice for breakfast and the hotel restaurant just up the road, La Caverna is wonderful. From the pool, reception and the restaurant staff I really can’t fault them. This really is a wonderful hotel. A short walk up a hill is Castelmola for beautiful shops bars and lovely for a drink in the evening. Bus stop outside hote 15 mins to Taormina. You can walk down if fit. Great location

We stayed for 5 nights but would have loved to have stayed longer.
Every member of staff at the hotel we met during our stay was helpful, especially David on reception who made us welcome as soon as we arrived. The whole hotel is kept extremely clean, and the team are visibility working hard throughout the day.
We had a Classic room which was large enough for our needs and had alot of storage.
There was never a problem with getting a sun bed around the pool and the views of Mt. Etna are breathtaking.
Breakfast is a buffet with a good hot and cold selection and there is a great restaurant next door called the Caverna in addition a short walk up into the main square there are plenty of good restaurants.

The hotel offers a free Shuttle bus into Taomina, can organise a number of trips, we had a day at a beach club, and a vineyard trip.

We had a great stay and hope to be back next year.

The only issue I had with this facility is the parking was a little bit difficult because of the nature of the area which was very hilly.

Pool area could be updated and they should have a waiter or waitress that goes around. They should have something to get rid of the bees! We couldn’t have breakfast outside in the morning because of all the bees! Breakfast was great but more hot options would have been better.

I cannot fault the hotel. It’s situated in a beautiful spot above Taormina called CastelMola. The hotel is stunningly rustic with jaw dropping views of Mount Etna and the surrounding mountains. The hotel staff were so helpful, kind and fun. The hotel has a great breakfast and is two mins walk from CastelMola village which has great shops and a few lovely restaurants. I am so glad we stayed here rather in the heart of Taormina. It was just perfect.

Situated in the beautiful village of Castlemola, this comfortable hotel offers unrivalled views of Mount Etna.
Well worth getting a room with a balcony and mountain view.
Breakfast was good and varied and the staff extremely accommodating.
A few of our evening meals were taken at the nearby Caverna restaurant which is also owned by the hotel (with discount available for guests).
A great walk down to Taormina was well worth the effort but keep an eye on the bus times as Taxis can be expensive.
All in all, an absolutely delightful stay.

Great, friendly staff who know how to properly treat their guests. Beautiful views from the restaurant, pool area and our room of Mount Etna. The full breakfast buffet was incredible. In the evenings/night it was absolutely quiet outside. We took the Interbus to/from Taormina bus station, for 1.90 euros. It stops right in front of Villa Sonia Hotel ! Castelmola is an interesting community with many shops and restaurants. We took the walking trail down to Taormina

The hotel is about 20 minutes up a very steep and winding road above Taorimina so it's not convenient to go back and forth. The decor is dated, but the hotel has an old world charm and the setting is beautiful. The back of the hotel looks at Mount Etna and the wonderful pool faces it too. The breakfast was nice and had typical
Sicilian pastries. They could update the decorations in the rooms and lobby.

A good spot above Taormina. Runs shuttle bus to the town. Rooms are OK. Our was a little run down with a loud grinding air conditioner, and a leaking faucet. The staff are very hard working both at the hotel and in the evening at the restaurant. Breakfasts are good, and the pool is very good. Good parking available across the street under ground. Easy access to Castelmolo by walking up some stairs.

We had a lovely stay at Villa Sonia. Could not recommend this hotel enough. The hotel was spotless, very large room (we booked the double with Etna views) Breakfast and hotel bar service was fab. Amazing location for exploring Castelmola and Taormina. A handy bus service operates throughout the day, just outside the hotel €3 return to Taormina centre (10/15 min journey)

The hotel staff could not have been more friendly and really went out their way to make sure we had a good stay. Highly recommend the restaurant associated to the hotel a short walk up the road.

A fabulous hotel for exploring the nearby sights or for relaxing and soaking up the sun (the pool area always had loungers free to use and was super clean/ tidy)

Thanks for having us, we will most definitely be back! 😊

We stayed here for 2 nights and we wish we could have stayed longer. The view from our terrace was beautiful - it overlooked Mount Etna and the surrounding hills. Room was spacious and rustic, which made it feel authentic. All staff at the hotel were lovely and friendly. Breakfast was great and they had such a good choice of fresh food. The pool area was a nice touch - it was great getting in the pool after a long day in the sun. Would happily stay here again and would recommend this place to anyone!

Just a wonderful property. Great service from the staff. All very friendly and accommodating to your needs. Property is very clean. The breakfast was very good every day. It’s a short walk up to Castelmola which has some excellent restaurants and breathtaking landscape and shops.

Castelmola is on a steep hilltop so driving there is tricky due to very curvy roads. It is quite far from Taormina. The hotel provides limited shuttle service down to Taormina. Otherwise you can take a public bus that runs hourly. The little town of Castelmola is quite cute. The hotel is on the old side but they provide breakfast and the views of the mountains and Etna are excellent. Not the place to be if you are expecting the beach or Taormina.

The previous reviews and high ratings for this hotel are extremely misleading. This hotel is old and dirty -- our room was filled with ants and smelt like cigarettes. We checked in at 1am and literally checked out at 8am -- 4 days earlier than expected. Not to mention the staff at the front desk was rude and inconsiderate upon check out. It is also very far from the town of Taoromina and inconvenient to get back and forth. I would not recommend this hotel at all.

In a stunning location with far reaching views. Has a lovely ‘homely’ feel and staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The breakfast was fine but perhaps a little ‘samey’ and it’s a pity it didn’t serve lunch snacks ( ie sandwiches/salads etc) at the pool bar, but there are plenty of places just a 5-10 minute walk up the hill into Castelmona. Would thoroughly recommend.

The hotel has seen better days and the standard of the Superior room was not as expected, especially for a 4 star hotel (no tea making facilities, coffee machine etc.). However the staff was friendly (thank you to the helpful receptionist who organised a kettle for us and the lovely young man in the breakfast area). The mount etna views also made up for the rather basic room.

The free shuttle bus plus easy access to the service bus (with planning) results in easy and convenient commute. Davide even printed the days services for the guests.

We loved our stay at this property. We had a warm welcome, and a lovely room with a terrace overlooking Mount Etna. The hotel is situated up the hill from Taormina, close enough to go there for shopping or food but so peaceful. The pool area was nice, although I didn't see the pool bar open - perhaps it was too late in the year. The hotel restaurant, which is a 1 minute walk away is very nice too and we had several meals there.
The hotel is 'classic', so if you want ultra modern and digital everything it may not be for you. If you want to relax while looking at a volcano, it's perfect.

The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The views of Etna were breathtaking. The location in Castelmola was unexpectedly delightful, far from the crowds in Taormina, and peaceful after a hard day’s sightseeing and shopping. The journeys to and from the hotel were always exhilarating/terrifying in equal measure. You don’t need a car, but do need to be on top of timetables if you plan to rely on public transport.

Absolutely loved this place and the owners and staff are amazing, it's a bit far out if you want to visit Taormina regularly and the last bus back is at 21.50 and if you miss that it's 20 to 25 euros for a taxi but it didn't bother us because we only stayed late in Taormina twice, the only other little gripe is that the hotel doesn't have a bar after 18.30 so you have to go to their restaurant up the street, that said i would definitely go back to this beautiful place. The intoxicating beauty of the view defines the elegant villa, with Mount Etna seen from some rooms, and from the breakfast room/terrace, where they serve a generous breakfast. We had a room with a spectacular vista and a terrace to savour the panorama, the only minor caveat being intermitent wifi.The lovely pool also boasts this panoramic scene. Staff are both obliging and friendly, with excellent language skills. Just up the road is the picturesque historic hillside citadel of Castelmola, which offers a superb variety of eateries. Down the road is the jewel of Sicily- Taormina- which never fails to charm. It was our fifth visit, this time just out of season, and so the numerous trips on offer to various parts of Sicily hadn't yet begun, but are worth doing. The bus service to Taormina is reliable, and preferable to mountain driving. It is truly a little piece of paradise.

A lovely hotel. The best thing is the location. Stunning views.

The hotel itself could do with a bit of updating. The bathroom in our room was old, grubby and needed a lick of paint.

Breakfast was basic but plenty of it. The staff are lovely, could’ve done with a corkscrew in the room as when I asked for a bottle to be opened the man at reception said no. A bit rude really.

Other than that, I loved it and would stay again.

World Class View of Etna - Great Room & Restaurant

What a find! Booked 24 hrs in advance and found a great discount on this site. Great room with a HUGE patio overlooking Etna. This \"old girl\" of a hotel is supremely located - Taormina prices would have been double of this lovely hotel. Valet parking. No worries a local bus will take you down to Taormina - you will not want to drive once you get up to Villa Sonia.
We had three excellent meals especially lunch overlooking Etna - truly memorable experience.

We were not sure what to expect based on the mixed reviews but our expectations were more than exceeded!! Our room was large and sparkling clean, the view from our private balcony was incredible, and the old-world charm of the whole property made us feel like we had stepped back in time. The drive up the mountain was narrow and winding, yes, but that's half of the fun of a vacation in Italy - enjoy it! It was just a short walk to the little town above with amazing food and panoramic views from the castle. Breakfast was wonderful and the front desk staff were so friendly and helpful. We wished for another day there so we could fully enjoy relaxing by the pool. Highly recommend a stay here.

Stunning views over Mt Etna from our imposing balcony . Spacious room with Queens bed. Loved the pool. Breakfast and supper was excellent too.
Make sure you use their own gated car park .€7 a night is well worth it and will give you peace of mind.
Finally the concierges at reception David & Felipe are extremely helpful and accommodating .
I would strongly recommend this hotel.

The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful. The property is beautiful and very easy to access from Taormina and Castelmola. The rooms are large, well appointed, and very clean although they could use a little update/refresh (but that's to be expected in Sicily). My only complaints are: the pillows were quite stiff, the shower was very small, and I would have appreciated more vegan friendly options at breakfast. Very small issues considering the affordability of the hotel, the great staff, and the incredible views!

Some simple steps in cleaning wouldn’t be difficult. Although not initially noticeable as you settle in it becomes obvious, I.e pool umbrellas are stained and mouldy with some broken.

The food was disappointing, maybe we are spoiled in the UK, but when you think of Sicily you think of the food. The Chef was unable to make a decent meal.

Having said that I found reception staff friendly and helpful and rooms cleaned well. Sufficient air con and provided what you expect.

Location is incredible so worth a visit for that reason alone

Old style hotel with antique furnishings. Very clean and wonderful view from room with balcony of Mt Etna. Generous continental breakfast on balcony, again with view of Etna. Staff and wifi very good. Thrilling drive from Taormina to Castelmola. Would stay again.

Could Have Been Perfect Pity

The daytime staff were polite and helpful. One late afternoon staff got angry because I told him my TV was not working, he shouted when there were other guests at the reception. This was sad because it spoiled what was a near perfect stay..
