Exceptional experience, as always! We have been to this hotel 5 times because every time they prove their 5* rating is not just about their amazing hotel, but their staff is outstanding.
From arriva to departure, we feel wecomed, and cared for. Have never been in a hotel that does everything so well.
AND every year they seem to make the hotel better!
This year they opened an expanded spa: 4 types of saunas, indoor pool, hydrotherapy pool, pool-side bar/restaurant, beautiful indoor & outoor lounging areas.
This on top of the infinity pool that first seduced us to book here: hanging out over the med looking down the Portofino Peninsula in a warm pool in winter? OMG! Paradise.
Breakfast is the best. Smoked salmon, fresh fruit, great assortment of cheeses, wonderful baked goods, eggs cooked to order (as well as chafing dishes of fried eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage) prosecco, juices, coffee made to order. All overlooking the Med and the harbor of Rapallo.
The desk staff, bell hops, house keeping, dining staff, spa staff - every single person seems happy in their work and makes you feel welcomed, pampered.
We have raved about this hotel for years: and we are already thinking about when we will go back.
We spend 50-75 nights a year in hotels of many types in many parts of the world: this is our favorite. Don't hesitate!

Attentive staff and well appointed rooms with many amenities on site for relaxation. Views are incredible. Best gym, sauna and pool we saw while in Italy. Go into town for food though; it very very pricey at the hotel compared to local restaurants. Ride up the coast to Recco for uncrowded beaches and the best street food and gelato. Be prepared to walk as in any place in Italy, but especially at the coast it is not flat!

From start to finish our stay at the Excelsior Palace was incredible. The property is beautiful. The staff is friendly, helpful and welcoming, and all the amenities are incredible. The breakfast was wonderful and every detail of our stay was perfect. Would absolutely recommend this to anyone I know and hope that we are lucky enough to come back one day.

So rarely do you actually get a 5 start hotel that actually lives up to that accolade, but this one does. Room and property was beautiful, breakfast and bar lovely but the staff throughout excelled and actually made the 5 star service you would expect. From check in, to bar staff, restaurant and room maids everyone made you feel welcomed with so many little extras to spoil you and make your stay that little bit more special. Truly an excellent stay. Thank you so much.

Very hard to get to the city from and to the hotel as we have to walk up and down a lot. No shuttle service for the hotel gate to the reception.
Breakfast bar is poor for a 5 hotel start and to the cost.
Cheap Nescafé in the room not even a proper coffee maker.
Lights in the balcony turn off at 2:30am which is too late.
No proper noise policy for guests to respect.

Only criticism was the lack of a shuttle service to the centre of town which, given the position of the hotel on top of a hill, the high cost of local taxis and the high temperatures, made it difficult for older customers or those with mobility difficulties.

Very Disappointed!

Hotel was in a great location, but upon entering our junior suite room for a \"5\" star hotel we were extremely disappointed! The room had a horrible perfume smell, was very dated, and felt more like a 2 star hotel. Maybe it was a 5 star hotel 50 years ago, but i wouldnt consider it one now. After reaching out to management about the smell, they looked at us like we were crazy and said there is nothing sprayed in the room. The hotel sent up housekeeping to check the room, and they confirmend that they indeed do spray a perfume in the room daily!!! For the amount we spent on this 5 star hotel room we much rather have stayed somewhere else for cheaper. Save your money and stay somewhere else! Id rate this hotel a 3 star Max!

We really enjoyed our stay at the excelsior palace. Beautiful hotel. Staff were so friendly and helpful and always on hand.

We arrived and were showed to our rooms with a gift waiting for us on arrival. Breakfast was great aswell.

I wouldn’t say the rooms were soundproof. We could hear our neighbour on the phone and the people above but thankfully I already were ear plugs at night.

The only thing I would suggest changing would be the paper cups in the room with the kettle. For a 5 star hotel I would really expect ceramic mugs.

we would definitely reccomend staying here and would stay again.

Honesty I think this property deserves 3 stars maximum, every single thing is super dated , we booked 2 rooms and requested one with twin beds , it didn’t happen , the whole place stunk like moth balls and humidity , in our room the smell was so bad it gave me an asthma attack, my daughters sheets had a hair on them ….
The breakfast buffet was sub par and not to mention the bathroom amenities..
they do have a beautiful view and nice staff

This place is great. The facility and the staff are wonderful. The only complaint I have is that they allow dogs and I stepped in dog poop on their elevator! Feb 2023, 2024, 2025 we stayed for a couple nights at the Excelsior Palace and every time has been a great experience. Rooms are lovely, very comfortable, great amenities (we've been in 3 classifications: all were great).
The breakfast buffet is wonderful: lots of choice including made to order items. The view from the dining room is gorgeous.
The location is spectacular with views over the Med, infinity pools that hang out over the sea are wonderful - warm & there are both pool-side and indoor showers, changing rooms, a gym, etc..

The most amazing and charming hotel we stayed in Italy! It is called a Palace for a reason. The staff was amazing, Angello was, as his name, an angel! He helped us plan our stay and recommended restaurants!

If you like to swim, use this hotel's access! Yes, there is no beach but between the infinity pools and the water access, it is an absolute pleasure!

TERRIBLE experience!! This hotel is NOT at all a five star property!! It hasn't been redecorated, renovated or updated in any way since the early 80's. There was rarely hot water, the hallways smelled musty and old, and the food was TERRIBLE and ridiculously over priced. The front desk staff was incredibly unfriendly and had no interest in helping us in any way. We've traveled to Italy multiple times over the last 20 years and this was the worst experience I've ever had! I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone!

This was one of the best hotels I have ever experienced. There are two pools, both kids friendly which I really liked, and an access to the sea water which was just perfectly shallow and calm. Staffs were extremely courteous and responsive. Thank you.

La Malandrina is on the corner between Via I Dionisio and via Salita Castelmola, close to the Roman boundary wall and about 100 metres away from Corso Umberto I and the gate of Porta Catania. The ancient Norman palace, known as Badia Vecchia is also very close.

Such a strategic position thus allows our guests to enjoy a complete holiday, sharing their time between the seaside, shopping , restaurants, excursions, night-life, exhibitions, concerts, opera and ballet performances which take place in the ancient Greek Amphitheatre between June and September. The building, constructed about 45 years ago, came into existence, because of a romance, a promise of marriage and the beginning of a lovely family.

He came from a far distant town, whereas she was from Taormina. After some time and after many love-filled visits, they decided to get married and start a family together.

Thirty years later, the family decided to transform the place into a holiday residence, so over 10 months' restructuring took place– the walls, the windows and terraces, all the electric and water plants , all the window and door frames were overhauled, the finest, oak patterned flooring laid, the walls re-decorated and high-quality fittings provided for all the bathrooms. All the work was carried out by dedicated local craftsmen.

The result is a series of apartments and suites. The interiors and the decorative elements are all strictly Italian, including the fabrics, the workmen, the furniture, the curtain-makers, the lamp-producers, the people who made the sofas, armchairs, chairs, cupboards carried out their work with loving attention to the smallest detail, so that a guest can feel as comfortable and at home as possible, surrounded by beautiful interiors.

Taormina is at the centre of a historic and highly picturesque area which captures the admiration of visitors from Italy and from all over the world, increasing the number of people who crowd the narrow streets of the ancient town every year.
