Hotel Palazzo Grillo is an incredibly well appointed property with very well thought out facilities and amenities. However, what sets it apart as the premier hotel not only in Genoa but arguably in a global context is the genuine albeit without obsequious hospitality from the staff across the board. Greta in particular stands out as a true exemplar of Genovese charm, kindness and genuine friendliness. Counting the days already until my next reservation at Hotel Palazzo Grillo

Everything was great. The only issue was that we tried to order two glasses of wine from the bar next door and they said we could carry them to our room but then they wanted to charge us the room service price. Carrying drinks from the bar to our room was not actually room service so I feel like they were trying to get more money out of us unnecessarily. So we purchased wine at a store elsewhere. Otherwise everything was great.

Nice hotel, clean, great location and friendly staff. We stayed in a dulux suite with a ‘city view’ which was a bit cheeky as the ‘view’ was basically a wall with a dead pigeon on it! The location though was impeccable - you can walk anywhere in under 20 mins

The lobby is beautiful with old fresco. Everything is organized and well taken care of. The breakfast is good. The room itself was average but had all the amenities needed. The location is conveniently located in the old town close to most of the attractions. All the stores are shut down after 7 pm except the restaurants so the streets in the area look abandoned. It's easy to get lost in the narrow streets which can be dark at night. I was a little nervous going out at night having to navigate the abandoned narrow alleys.

Staff were friendly and very helpful particularly all the girls at reception. Hotel is ideally placed in the centre of the old town with the only drawback that taxis can only get to the Piazza Competto which is 50 meters away so you have to wheel your luggage that 50m.

One recommendation is once you’re in a taxi to the hotel; call the hotel to coordinate drop off location. Hotel is in a historic area with limited taxi access but the staff will help to secure your arrival.

We loved the Palazzo Grillo. Yes, it is a registered UNESCO World Heritage site and a wonderfully restored hotel that seamlessly blends a palazzo built in 1545 with 21st-century conveniences. A superb breakfast on the top floor, a beautiful relaxation library on the second floor, and nicely placed in the old quarter of Genova, at the Piazza delle Vigne.

Palazzo Grillo is located in the pedestrian zone of the town center, making access by car impossible. We enjoy walking, so the 5-minute walk with our luggage from the closest parking garage (Marina Porto Antico) to the town center was no problem. Be sure to follow the directions from the hotel. Certain taxis can take you close to the hotel, resulting in a shorter walk. The labyrinth of alleys in the old part of town is worth your trip--a cultural wonder.

Expect excellent service from the staff.

Beautifully restored palazzo in the center of old town. From the lobby to the room to the other common areas, the feel, decor and design was stunning. Service was generally excellent as well. Great location from which to explore all the Old Town sites and get lost in the maze of alleys. Gran Ristoro, a phenomenal, tiny sandwich shop is a three-minute walk away and a must visit for foodies. There isn’t any parking in the Old Town, but there is convenient self-parking a few minutes walk away at the port. We would definitely choose Palazzo Grillo again if we return to Genoa.

We have booked the standard room but uplon arrival we realized that it was very basic on a level that needs more love to make it welcoming. We paid an additional 50 euros directly to the hotel for an upgrade for the Junior room which was nice. The breakfast is good and includes a wide selection of products.

Amazing property, fabulous location, excellent staff. Sadly, my (single) room was not much bigger and lighter than a broom closet. The biggest problem was the lack of any working desk and no electric outlet near the bed. However, i can imagine that if I was visiting for holidays, this wouldn’t be so much of an issue.

First Class Hotel

The Palazzo Grillo is a beautiful hotel with first class service and accommodations.

Our train to Ventimiglia was canceled due to a strike, but the person at the front desk was able to recommend some options and later arranged for a taxi to take us there. We very much appreciated their help.

The property was really nice. It is very convenient because while it is in the downtown of Genoa it is away from the noise. The restaurant in front of the hotel is really good. The staff is helpful and very sweet. Over all I will not be returning to Genoa, yet I am glad I visited and experienced it. But Genoa is just not a place to go back, at least for me.

Lovely hotel

The hotel is gorgeous and steeped in history. The staff were exceptionally accomodating. Lastly the breakfast starting each morning with a glass fresh squeezed blood orange juice was was a perfect start to each day of my trip. Highly recommend this place!

Excellent property

The hotel is located in a historical property in the city center, with frescoed lobby and a beautifully restored library. Rooms are somewhat simply furnished, but the beds are incredibly comfortable, and the room offers all the necessary features. The wifi works smoothly. Perhaps the only downside is that the room was very warm (uncomfortably so), and the AC didn’t really help. The only way to bring the temperature down was by opening the window, but this option is not available on the weekend when the noise level is very high at night. The staff couldn’t be friendlier and more helpful. I’ll surely be back

This hotel is in such a cool part of Genoa. It is not accessible by car. You have to walk through many alleyways down a hill to get to it. It’s deeply embedded in one of the most beautiful parts of the city. This area had everything from pharmacies to five star restaurants. Our hotel had a beautiful view. The staff were kind and we had all the amenities that we needed. The staff was very helpful when we needed accommodations for our car. They were very knowledgeable about the area and spoke fantastic English.

We will definitely be returning to this property when we visit again, and we truly appreciated how we were treated. The rooms are beautiful. further, there is a beautiful rooftop with seating and meals offered. The cost of the meal is very low for the high quality of food that you got. They had omelettes, fruit, desserts, beverages, great coffee. The view is stellar and it’s a very comfortable and quiet place. The hotel overall feels brand new, despite being in what appears to be a very historic building. I can’t emphasize enough how valuable it was to be so central. This hotel is definitely a gem.

This may be an Expedia issue, but our room was not up to the standards of what is advertised. It faced two allies and was dark. I could hear the person above me walking around. My only complaint with this hotel was the location of the room compared to what I expected. Other than that, the staff was great, breakfast was great, the location was great, the lobby of the hotel and the 2nd floor was incredible. I was just not expecting a room that was clearly not one of their best locations. Again, this may be Expedia misreprenting the hotel rather than the hotel.

Amazing Palazzo stay

We had an amazing stay, the hotel's 16th century architecture is amazing! The retrofitting of modern amenities make the rooms very convenient. It's such an elegant place in the middle of the Genoa historical city center surrounded by shopping and restaurants.
I would recommend this hotel and would love to stay in again.

A lot of stairs to our room, awkward with luggage & if you had mobility issues. Small room for the $633 a night without taxes. The breakfast had few hot dishes, okay but coffee was never hot! Nice hotel but I'd choose to go someplace else in the future. Genoa is beautiful. The staff was very nice.

If you can find it, it's delightful!

This is a lovely property although almost impossible to locate. GPS does not work properly in the inner city maze where it is located in Genoa and this property is tucked on a walkable only street within a street within an alley. There is no street access.

Parking is very far away, expensive and hard to locate as there was no clear communication from the hotel prior to our arrival. We almost gave up finding the property and headed to Tuscany early.

Once inside, it is a beautiful, clean and an interesting experience. The front desk staff is all quite patient and wonderful. Their English in very good. The cleaning staff were over the top - in a great way! Beds were a little hard and Ikea-like yet bathrooms were divine and the common \"library\" where you can get coffee, see interesting art, and read cool books is extraordinary. Hearing the ancient bells from your room is a cool experience, too.

It's perfect for a romantic getaway if you are flying into Genoa and your cab / Uber driver knows where to find it.

Lots of great places to eat within a 5 minutes walk.

I was not familiar with what Genoa Centro Storico is like before I booked this hotel, so I was not prepared for how narrow and twisted those tiny streets are.
The hotel itself is super nice, but the area is a bit peculiar, especially at night.

The staff was friendly and the room was large and clean. The area around was nice and historical. The location however was hard to find and the parking is very far away and confusing to get to. There is a discount on parking however it is still 15 Euros per day. The staff said breakfast was available but did not inform us of the cost. Even the breakfast was very good we would have gone elsewhere for breakfast and on the road earlier. All in all a good stay.

This is a fabulous hotel in the middle of the walking area of old town, and close to everything in Genoa. Service was outstanding, room was ample, comfortable although somewhat plain; good bathroom. Building and rooms are very well maintained. They have a beautiful reading room, which we enjoyed one rainy afternoon. Nice breakfast, and coffee tea and cookies as well as naturally flavored water are available all day long. It’s a remodeled 1545 palace. Highly recommended

Sketchy area.

This hotel was clean and updated, that part was fine…but the beds were tiny and uncomfortable. Worst of all, it is in a sketchy part of town. It’s impossible for a cab to do a pick up in front, so we had to drag our bags across cobblestones to a piazza for a pick up. If that weren’t unpleasant enough, the people hanging around that you have to drag your bags past were as sketchy as the area of town. It was NOT a pleasant experience.
