On entering the ground floor corridor, there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke.
Our rooms were clean but the opposite of spacious, especially in the cramped toilet. It was like showering in a telephone kiosk.
The dinner service on the Saturday evening we were there was appalling, a very limited menu and very, very slow service.
Hotel residents were allowed to smoke on the steps outside the hotel entrance which was littered with cigarette butts, along with an overflowing litter bin.
A dreadfully unsatisfactory experience.

Room was cold and radiator did not worked. I told three to receiption girl but she did not care and did nothing. Very bad stuff. When I checkout the guy mistaken my invoice. To reach center is only bus line 74 with runs only from hour to hour. Breakfast was poor and fresh fruits were old fruits.

Easily the smallest hotel bed in the world. No comfortable seating, clock or teapot in the room. Microscopic bathroom, no washcloths, shower had nowhere to put even a bar of soap, so I had to step out to get shampoo, then step out for conditioner, then soap. Towels are very stiff and scratchy.

Service in dining room is terrible - it took 2 hours to be served a soup, salad and dessert, and I was one of 3 tables. The food on the dinner menu is inedible, heavily loaded with sage and all around poor quality ingredients. The second night I had bread and butter for dinner because the beef burgundy was too nasty to eat at all. Breakfast - normally a delight in Europe - at least has fresh croissants, but little else to recommend it.

This is no more a VIP access hotel than the moon is.

Best way to see Groningen on a low budget is stay at the Bastion at night, park car at IKEA during the day and walk into town.

Me and my father both were suppose to spend a week and 3 days in the bastion hotel, but due to unforeseen circumstances, we ended up stay a bit longer. At first we were on the first floor. The rooms from the first floor arent made for staying long periods of time especially if your not used to having a small bath room and bed, but non the less the place is quite comfortable, the staff ( who i will not mention there names for safety reason) are fantastic, they help you with what ever they can with little to as no problem, every morning they check each room and see if anyone needs anything or if the room needs clean, they is a dinner, a bar and breakfast although depending on what type of booking you have it might not be included(check expedia for those details). its easy to catch the bus 10 minutes after the hour from right across the hotel straight to the center of groningen which is a plus, especially since it is kind of a walk to reach to anything. after staying in the room, we had to upgrade due to huge amount of people booking rooms, and we were set on the fifth floor, the deluxe rooms. Now the deluxe room are more spacious especially the bathroom, with a higher sink and tub/shower. If i were to book again it would definitely be these rooms. I also forgot to mention that not everyone can walk into the hallways as well, you need a room key to get through to anything with a door in there, except the main door to the hotel and the gym door. I would stay here again

Enjoyed our stay in Bastion De-lux Room good Just while using the bath as a shower it would be a good idea to have non slip mat for the bath while having a shower to stop slipping in it. Breakfast very good maybe have a few more choices of cereals. Food in the restaurant good also and staff very friendly

I diid not feel very comfortable with my stay here. The rooms were average and the food was not really good. The hotel had a strange \"fire\" policy and did not let me open the windows in my room and it was very uncomfortable at night.

I also had a strange mail after my stay, telling me that I had left behind my jewellery(I had not) and would send it to my address, if I sent a payment, without mentioning any details. Sounded very curious.

Good value hotel.

This is a budget hotel, but doesn't feel like it. The bar and dining area feel much more upmarket, the room was very nice too. The location is far from central for Groningen, but it is an ideal hotel for drivers, being easily accessible from the nearby motorway, but far enough away from it so that you can't hear road noise. The breakfast is quite good, but perhaps a little too expensive for a budget hotel. I'd rather pay less for a more basic breakfast in a budget hotel.

Pleasant enough

It was a pleasant enough stay. Our room for the first 2 days was very cold as apparently there had been a fire in the hotel a few days prior and the heating had been lost in some rooms. Unfortunately our room was one of the affected ones, consequently for the first two days whilst in our room we either had our pullovers on or a jacket. We were told the hotel was full so we were unable to change rooms. The staff were friendly, polite and helpful and offered extra quilts. On the 3rd day the heating was fixed. Our stay was for 6 nights, if it had only been for 2 it would've been horrendous.

I requested a refund for the first 2 nights and was told that the manager would contact me in a few days. It has been over a week and l am still waiting.

The food was typical of a 3* hotel. I had chicken breasts which was slightly dry and my daughter had vegetable pasta which she enjoyed. The fries were lovely.

We had a comfortable stay apart from the first 2 days.

Freezing cold shower and very poor service

When we woke up in the morning, the room was cold, no hot water also. I tried to call the reception, but no one answered. After 15 minutes I went into the lobby, the receptionist apologized, said that they would fix it soon. After a bit, the heating went on again, but no hot water. I had to take a freezing cold shower. When we left, the receptionist apologized again and then asked for the 6 euros of local taxes.... Maybe we were just unlucky, but still...

Bastion hotels are usually reliable and this was no exception. Friendly staff, a welcome drink and good dinner service. Wifi worked perfectly. The area is not downtown but if you are simply in transit you have excellent access to motorway routes

We really enjoyed our stay here. The location was great- easy to get to, the reception area is clean and tidy, and the staff are fantastic. When we first arrived, Tim was looking after both the bar and the reception and was doing a fine job. He was very friendly and helpful, booking us a cab into town and ensuring we were comfortable. Nothing was too much effort. Although the bathroom was pretty small, it's perfect for a place to sleep. Would stay here again if we went back to Groningen.

I had so much dust in my room , on TV , furniture and seats, the air conditioning could not be stopped, it was set on 22 degrees with ventilation on , the radiator was on but because of de AC was still cold in the room , and the person ell was not so kind as it should. The online good thing was the free parking and smoking room if you are a smoker.

Strange location. But appealing entrance and great welcome - 15 minute discussion on how great Luis Suarez is - common ground for LFC fan in Groningen. No room service but allowed to take dinner into my room! Only downside woken up at 5am by loud party goers and reception ignored issue in the morning.

Very poor quality hotel. It is a 20min taxi ride from the railway station. There is a bus service which runs only once every hour but not between 8:00am and 10:00am(don't know why). There is lot building construction just outside the bedroom windows resulting in noise and pollution. The restaurant was ok but expensive and limited choice.

Das Personal war sehr nett. Die Zimmer waren sauber, jedoch sehr hellhörig. Dieses Mal waren die anderen Gäste etwas laut und das war störend. Leider wurden im Zimmer die Betten nicht gemacht, was ich irgendwie komisch fand. Aber im Großen und Ganzen war der Aufenthalt angenehm. Die Bushaltestelle ist direkt am Hotel und man ist schnell im Zentrum.

Unser Zimmer war direkt neben der Wäschekammer und es standen überall Container mit Schmutzwäsche herum. Das Hotel wirbt mit einer Entfernung von 1,8 km zum Zentrum, es sind aber 3,7 km - daher eine schlechte fußläufige Erreichbarkeit. Für 122,-€/Nacht ohne Frühstück hätten wir durchaus mehr erwartet.

Das Hotel ist sehr sauber, die Zimmer sind sehr schön eingerichtet. Die Lage ist im ersten Moment nicht so toll, denn das Hotel ist im Industriegebiet. Aber die Bushaltestelle ist in 1 Minute erreichbar und man ist in 20 Minuten im Stadtzentrum. Es ist sehr angenehm, da es sehr ruhig ist und Parkplätze direkt vor der Tür verfügbar sind. Daher kann ich das Hotel empfehlen. Frühstück war auch ausreichend und sehr gut.

Perfect hotel voor ons bezoekje aan ff Groningen. Makkelijk bereikbaar met de auto, kunt de auto ook laden op de parkeerplaats. Verder prima kamer, fijn bed. De badkamer was ietsje krap, maar voldeed ook prima. Het personeel was ook heel aardig, de kids kregen nog een puzzel mee naar huis!

Vreemde man op de kamer om 04.00 snachts

Om 04.00 wakker gemaakt, door een vreemde man die onze kamer (2 vrouwen die lagen te slapen) binnen kwam zetten. Waarschijnlijk een overactieve bewaker? Hele rest van de nacht bang geweest. Vriendinnenweekend verpest. Zijn we keer weg van de kinderen, dan krijgen we dit. Geen echte excuses van het hotel hierover gehad. Konden uiteindelijk na klacht bij uitchecken een drankje krijgen, maar dat heeft na het uitchecken weinig zin. Bijzonder hoe met gasten wordt omgegaan.

Værelset var koldt ved ankomst, da radiator var slukket. Vi tændte omgående radiator (som ikke kunne blive rigtig varm), men da vægge og gulve var kolde nåede det faktisk ikke at blive varmt inden vi forlod hotellet næste morgen. Rengøring var udført halvhjertet. Fjernsyn og lampe havde ikke set en klud længe.
Klagede i reception ved check-ud, men receptionist virkede ligeglad med vores dårlige oplevelse, og havde egentlig mest travlt med at komme videre med hvad end hun havde gang i på telefonen..

Morgenmaden var ikke pengene værd, men trods alt spiselig.

I liked the wurlitzer music box on the entrance.
Room temperature was a bit cold for me this could be because of long curtains blocking the radiator.
The night shift guy has some anger control problem.
I waited 5 minutes outside of the hotel on the first night and 15 minutes, on the last,as the gates were closed after midnight.

Leider war unser Zimmer dreckig, hatte sehr kleine Fenster, die nicht gut zu öffnen waren und die Lage mitten im Industriegebiet war auch nicht optimal. Nachts um 3 standen wir 15 Minuten vor der Tür, weil niemand von der Rezeption auf unser klingeln reagiert hat.

Vloer restaurant/ontbijt zaal plakte. Bij ontbijt ontbrak van alles. Was op! Bij diner kreeg mijn partner zijn eten en ongeveer een kwartier later ik. Er was iets misgegaan in de keuken. Bij uitche ken dit alles gemeld. Ter compensatie werd de fles wijn bij het diner niet in rekening gebracht.
