We stayed for a night at the Bel & Dragon in Wendover after a Chilterns walk along the Ridgeway from Princes Risborough. The pub was a lovely way to end the day - the room was very nice and we had a few drinks and great meal. It was the hottest day of the year, so understandably warm in the rooms, but there was a fan provided, which helped with the heat.

The only problem was that on the hottest weekend of the year the room did not have air conditioning. There was a Dyson fan which helped but it broke down on our second night but was replaced very quickly by a member of staff. The breakfast was excellent served by two young girls who couldn’t have been more helpful.

We stayed in Wendover in the Bel and the Dragon for 2 nights and it was wonderful. The building and the rooms are beautifully clean and well stocked. Staff were helpful, welcoming and funny. We stayed in a room that faced the road and it was noisy during the night and early morning. Toiletries made us feel like we were in a spa. We had scorching weather and were given a fan for the room to help, rooms are not air conditioned. Breakfast and food from the restaurant were really nice and reasonable.
Location is good, with little shops and some pubs, unfortunately some shut early so you need to make sure to order your food before 8pm otherwise you'll stay hungry.
Definitely recommending staying at the Bel and the Dragon, for us it was a wonderful experience.

My friend and I had a lovely 2 night stay. We loved the property, it had a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful.
Breakfast, which was included, was lovely. A nice buffet and a menu for cooked options. The food was fresh and of good quality. One evening we also enjoyed their dinner.
We have only to lesser points. In our room we found there was not much space for luggage, but it was ok for 2 nights. And we found the pillows uncomfortable. They might need replacing (or it's personal preference).
We had such a lovely stay, we definately come back!

Breakfast was lovely with a freshly cooked hot option plus a very tempting array of pastries, freshly prepared fruit, cereals and yoghurt with healthy toppings plus cheese and meats if you fancied. The food in the restaurant was also very tasty. Definitely worth a visit.

Shops outside in the high st (not many ),chinese takeaway not too far away ..small morrisons and a small tesco ...only 1atm in town as far as i know that is at the small tesco..clean rooms ,staff very polite and helpful 5☆ for them all. Nice staff, especially the young man that changed our room for one without stairs to climb. We have used this as a preferred location several times before. One big surprise this time was a glass of white wine and a half of Peroni was charged at £16.30!
That was something of a surprise and not typical of other pubs locally. If staying there consider drinking elsewhere.

The limited time we had at the hotel was great. We were helping on a scout hike and it was nice to have somewhere comfortable to return to. The accommodation was lovely and we are thankful for the little extra touches like biscuits (which were lovely when stuck in the middle of nowhere waiting for missing scouts) and the slow gin (which unfortunately we did not get to participate in). We were also grateful for the patience this morning when we had to nip off unexpectedly, having to cancel our breakfast order when one of our scouts was taken suddenly ill. We will hopefully get to return again and actually enjoy properly next time .

The staff is very friendly and always helpful. The rooms are clean, warm and comfortable. However, the Hotel is located on a busy road and I founded very noisy, even during the night. Probably due to the fact that the hotel is located in a heritage building with original single glazing windows with hardly any noise reduction.

Staff were lovely and the pub itself is nice. However, my bedroom was right next to the car park and if I kept the shutters open, everyone could see in, so I kept them shut. It was also noisy - I could clearly hear guests in adjacent rooms and was glad I'd packed ear plugs. The pub's outdoor seating areas are extremely close to guest rooms, so I think light sleepers would have problems staying here in summer.

I received a warm welcome upon arrival but, unfortunately that’s where the positives end. My room, whilst suitably furnished looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned in ages. The bathroom had long auburn hairs that obviously belonged to a previous guest.
Dinner was extremely mediocre and it wasn’t until I finished that anyone asked if everything was ok. The deep fried breaded farmed sea bass fillet was overcooked and dreadful. The menu described it as a schnitzel when it bore absolutely no resemblance to the classic dish that’s cooked in clarified butter.
Breakfast was good and served by charming staff.
Upon departure, I handed my key to a member of staff who was sitting by the bar doing some admin. Absolutely no interest, no pleasantries and no question as to whether I enjoyed my stay.
I would definitely not return.

We booked in and the woman who checked us in and bar staff were so friendly and welcoming. Room was good though a shower over a bath is difficult for my husband so will investigate that further on out next stay. All good, lunch was lovely and found Wendover to be a lovely town.

We booked a table for our evening meal and was a wee bit disappointed. The food could have been warmer. I had burger and hubby had rolled belly pork. The pork was a bit tuff... and it was a cheap meal. However, breakfast was best weve had in a very long time. Blackpudding was delicious, spicey with no big white fatty bits. Eggs perfectly good...yummy.

I would recommend the hotel and we will definately be back..with friends in Nov i am hoping!!!

This has been a staple of our visits to the area for many years so we were disappointed with how things have changed in such a short period.
On arrival we were told that the water would be off the following morning at 8am for planned plumbing works. No apology, no pre warning. In addition, the staff proved quite unfriendly - not just with us - with everyone who is not a regular. Not something we expected nor should expect of a hotel. Very disappointing over all and not an enjoyable experience.

Good place for stop over, staff attentive, food however I feel was overpriced , had a hummus starter to share very nice plenty of it with pitta bread for £12, thought that was good value..
My main dish was 2 large pieces of chicken and potatoes £23 very tasty but no vegetables or anything else with it, would rather have less meat and option for vegetables.
I know they source locally which I like and appreciate this costs more..
The room was more than adequate for one night , good choice of different teas and coffees.
Very hot night , fan provided, thank goodness as struggled to get any windows opened.
Blinds in windows gave good black out.
Bed very comfy.
Bathroom very clean, shower had 2 different types of heads, worked really well.
There was lots of different toiletries provided.
Room was across from bar so lots of noise until bar closed, but staff member did make us aware when showing us to our room and because it was a warm evening, everyone sat outside..
Would we come again , possibly to break our journey up but would ask for a quieter room and unless there food prices dropped , would go somewhere else for evening meal..

Can't wait to return!

After 5 weeks of travel, this gem was a memorable last night - one of our nicest stays. A charming old hotel, its many character features were seamlessly integrated into a very enjoyable stay. The bed was comfortable and large, the in-room amenities better than most, and the included breakfast went well beyond expectations. Being an older building there are stairs to the upper levels and no AC; some may also find the road-frontage rooms noisy with the windows open. For us these were minor, understandable considerations and wouldn't for a minute deter us from returning.

This is a lovely central place to stay. Rooms are very comfortable, clean and worth the price.
We had the breakfast option included. We were told the night before that breakfast was 8:30-10:30 as Good Friday. All well, however all rooms must have been booked out as we went to breakfast at 9am & the buffet section was devoid of fresh fruit, yoghurt Jams & juices. Asked for more fruit but alas told there was no more. We made do with toast &poached eggs but Dutch tourist were not impressed. Don’t get me wrong, lovely place to stay but they need to improve so all guests are getting what the6 paid for.

The only thing I would say is we stayed in the room near the car park and the noise from people drinking outside was quite loud, also the tv signal wasn’t that great. But I would stay there again .

Have stayed here many times, this time I had booked a classic room, but was put in the accessible room, which is normally an option when booking, I do not like this room, I have no need for an accessible room. The bathroom is a wet room and understandably pretty big, but the towel rail is not a heater and it was very cold, the room is large but doesn't feel cosy, lots of room for wheel chairs if you need it, so for an accessible room pretty good, but I don't need it, and other rooms are much more cosy. The hotel was full so no option but to take it. Shame as I deliberately did not book this room. will still stay here as long as it is one of the really cosy rooms elsewhere in the hotel.
