However the shower was not good at all. 3 or 4 shower head holes worked, the remaining water was spouting from the screw on part of shower head and the door was falling apart with trim hanging off and the grout was black in lots of places, spray mould remover would easily rectify this? Was reported but was told no one had ever mentioned this? Bizarre!

A lovely hotel, slap bang in the middle of town, close to all pubs and restaurants and the Centenary theatre (20 minute walk) could do with a little touch up and repairs here and there. But excellent value for where it’s positioned and the staff are exceedingly welcoming and friendly. Lovely stay would book again definitely!

First impressions wasn't too bad. However, upon looking around the room, I soon noticed somethings. The floor was all stained and I didn't feel comfortable walking around in my socks let alone bare feet. The bed felt soft at first when I sat on it which I enjoy a soft bed, but laying on it you could feel the springs starting to come through. The bedroom area felt like it just needed some TLC, a newer TV wouldn't go a miss either. The beverage facilities wasn't bad though, although I had to go to reception to get a bottle of water, as the bottle in my room had been used! glad I noticed! The main thing for me though is the shower was *putting it politely* abysmal. The water temperature fluctuated every few seconds, the shower head was squirting out in every direction but where you wanted it to. Wasn't happy unfortunately.

Whilst a little dated, the bed in the economy double room was comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. The room itself was dark (not great lighting and one window looking over a small yard). The bathroom was OK. The shower was over a high sided bath and was a mixer rather than thermostatic. Plenty of hot water. Towels were fluffy and big! Tea and coffee in the room as well as water and biscuits and more on request at reception. Staff were fantastic. Really friendly, helpful and wanting to make your stay as comfortable as possible. This is room only. Breakfast was not available although there was an option for a discounted breakfast at another venue.

This is the second time the family has stayed here. In the 3-year period it has gone do n terribly. Mould in the shower. Leaking shower tray. Cracked plaster. Noisy a/c. Uncomfortable bed. Terrible pillows. Power in our room kept cutting out too. Needs a major renovation.

This hotel was in the perfect location while visiting my family in Berkhamsted. Right off the high street, large room, lots of storage space, water, tea and coffee, early check in, luggage storage. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Last minute booking, room was fine for a one night stay but even though it was cold outside the room was like an oven and due to its location on the walkway opening a window wasn't really an option, there was aircon but it's noisy and dries me out, other than that a very good room for a very reasonable price.

This might have been a great stay once. Had to change rooms as the shower did not work. New shower was no better. First night, fire alarm started. Stopped, started again. It turns out the front desk person just tried to shut it off the first two times it rang. That’s concerning. Glad there wasn’t a real emergency. The same front desk person would not allow a complete sentence spoken to her. Instead, she’d talk over you loudly and just insist on not letting a guest finish a sentence. Dirty broken parts of rooms, unvacuumed floors, etc. The room keys had to be reprogrammed after every use. Avoid this place

The bathroom was well designed and well featured, but sadly the maintenance was poor - the extractor fan was visually heavily clogged with fluff, and did not work at all. The bath plug, once under water, will not eject with the rotary knob, and renders it impossible to drain the bath. It appears the entire plug-ejection mechanism is missing!
All that said, it was a comfortable, quiet night.

Well located in central Berkhamsted - very walkable to centre of town, train station, and houses in the town. It was a small but fair sized room, with poor lighting and ventilation which affected the comfort of being in there. The room was one of the more budget ones at the property, and was located off a walkway that was used by others and produced some noise at night. It was all good for our purposes as we were not intending on spending a lot of time there outside of sleeping.

Arrived late at night and was greeted by a lone receptionist who checked me in and handed key card and explained how to enter code to room. What she didn’t say was that there are no light in the area that you have to enter a code to get through to the rooms, after dropping off bags the hotel is right on the high street , so great for dining options, I went to the Giggling Squid Thai. After a good nights sleep in a comfy bed it was time for a nice hot shower before leaving at 6am. However the shower was cold, and after running the water for 5 mins,still stayed cold. Not what you want in October.

Great service from reception staff to the hospitality staff and lovely and clean but the hotel in general is tired and scruffy. We stayed on 2 separate occasions and on the first stay had a room downstairs which is was noisy as its on a thoroughfare to the car park. The second stay was a room upstairs which was better but both rooms had broken toilet seats (one was repaired during our stay but broke again). The shower in the downstairs room was just a trickle. The mattresses are old and lumpy and need replacing.

Awful hotel. The very small and dark room was in an outdoor walkway from a restaurant and the high street to the car park so it was very noisy with people walking past and setting of a light which lit up the room.
The walls are thin and I could here the person in the room next door very clearly.

Great location, central to the town. First come , first served patking was convenient. The biggest problem was the noise levels as the hotel shares a courtyard to a busy restaurant and has an alleyway running past some rooms. I was kept awake by noisy patrons and people using the alleyway.

Property claim to have double booked despite us calling the week before. Left us with no bed for the night whilst still on the journey to them. After about 12 calls toatalling over 1hr from expedia and delaying my journey. I had to book alternate accomodation eventually arriving just after 1am.

We had a lovely room (one of the biggest we were told) although it had a slightly musty smell, possibly because it had been closed since lock down a was the first weekend re-opened. The bathroom was great but the shower head needs de-scaling as one bit squirts sideways . There is some paint/plaster missing from the wall by the window. The bedding and towels were fresh, white and soft.

Negatives - Very hard to find the car parking using postcode on SatNav! The hotel is not visible from the High Street (although actually just behind the Giggling Squid) and the hotel car park can only be reached via the Waitrose Car Park! Better instructions to guests at the time of booking would be preferable!

The hotel is not visible from the High Street (although actually just behind the Giggling Squid) and the hotel car park can only be reached via the Waitrose Car Park! Good stay - but not the wifi!
Checked in late but with no problems and welcomed really well. Breakfast (freshly and individually cooked) was delicious. Only problem was that I was completely unable to log on to the wifi. Never seen such a complicated log on procedure!

The bonus of the hotel is that it has its own parking which is why I went there. Although I had a number of bags, no offer was made at reception to help me up the stairs with my bags. The room looked out over the car park and had a ghastly carpet. The shower room was so small the toilet roll holder kept getting knocked over. The fan was so noisy that I had to ring reception for help as it was and a man came to disable the fan standing on a chair, using a coat hanger. I had phoned in advance to ask if I could have breakfast at the Kings Arms which is a much nicer sister hotel on the high street (no parking there but far nicer). I was told I would get a 20% discount at the Kings Arms but that it had a full menu whereas the Penny Farthing basically only offered a continental or full English breakfast on request. The next day I breakfasted at the Kings Arms where I was told my delicious breakfast was free as I was staying at the Penny Farthing. I decided that I would return to the Kings Arms next time. Nicer rooms, nicer ambience and well informed and charming staff. Sorry Penny Farthing - I won’t be coming back.
