My very large room was spotlessly clean and the carpet looked new. I had two good nights sleep. Window had opaque glass and when I opened it there was a small yard but I wasn't there for the view so it wasn't important. I was really pleased it was an 'accessible' room as I recently had a hip replacement so rhe wet room and rails were ideal for me. TV didnt work in room but a complimentary G&T instead was fine. Watched TV in lounge area instead. Staff couldn't be more helpful. especially James who was on reception. when I arrived

Stay was nice until my birthday. Booked on check in extending 1 day as the package with Universal Studios was restricted at the time. Front desk clerk put it in for Thur night instead of Wed. Causing me to have to check out amongst my birthday activities and spending hours to find an alternative. This resulted in my being late to activity bookings and pretty much ruined my birthday.
Also scheduled my package dinner for Wed night birthday and pre-paid and did not get refund even though their error.
Really disappointed as the stay started out well.
All because the front desk clerk clicked the wrong date. I even said no issue if they were sold out I had plenty of time at check in to find alternative. But 3 days later to find out he put wrong date and no rooms available.

Property is very outdated, certainly not a 4 star hotel. I would suggest it's a low 3 star at best. The whole property really needs a renovation. The building as you drive up to it looks lovely and I am sure it could be so nice if it were to be renovated.

Poor mobile phone and hotel WiFi coverage in rooms on edge of hotel. Receptionist overworked, not present enough at reception. Breakfast opens late at 07:00 midweek, should be 06:30 for business workers. Breakfast serving staff stroppy and demotivated.

We visited on New Year’s Eve and were disappointed to discover, upon arrival, that no food service was available that evening—something we should have been informed of in advance, given the lack of nearby restaurants. Additionally, a New Year’s event meant the bar was closed, and there was nowhere to sit and enjoy a drink, which was highly inconvenient. As a result, we had to leave the hotel to make alternative arrangements for the evening. The property is outdated and in need of refurbishment.

Hotel check in was average, staff all appeared to be very young and lacking general courtesy such as letting us know where the bar area was, what time breakfast was and anything about the facilities. All a bit hurried and keen to get rid of us to our room.

Our double room was two single beds pushed together with no mattress topper. It was the hardest and most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in - we could feel the springs. Furniture was extremely old with missing handles, marks on surfaces and a table that couldn’t be used as it wasn’t level. Room service said to call for food but there was no phone - just a cable coming out of the socket with nothing on the end. Poor heating - a plug in electric heater was available. Lighting was awful, and very dim. Extractor in the bathroom was pointless. Breakfast was average. We have stayed on a few other occasions for functions at the manor, and only stayed again for ease of location.

The hotel itself is stunning and feels like it's truly in the countryside despite being not too far a distance from Hemel Hempstead, St Albans, Aylesbury, etc. The manor room was beautiful and very spacious with a comfortable bed. The food at the restaurant was also extremely good - we ended up eating there each night because of how tasty everything was. My only complaint is the water in the room - it would only last for about 1-2 minutes before stopping completely for about 4 or 5 minutes (no matter whether it was the sink, bathtub or shower) which was really inconvenient and annoying. I'm not sure if this is a regular occurrence or if there was some type of issue. Regardless, everything else was nice and we enjoyed our stay here.

Should be a great hotel. The staff work hard but having a broken toilet in the bridal suite, is unacceptable. When reported on check out I was told they would look at it. Not a great customer experience. A lift out of order is another sign of what is happening at this hotel

I enjoyed my first visit here for a business trip and will probably book it again as I felt safe and the staff were great. The only downside for me was That the whole hotel felt like it needed some TLC. I didn’t spend much time in the room but it was nice and large but my windows were dirty. Clean place, decent average room, rude staff. Staff fairly hostile and unwelcoming, with a distinctive lack of hospitality. Room was up 3 flights of stairs with no lift or assistance with luggage. We booked breakfast and dinner there to simplify our trip. Honestly wish we hadn't- I'd have rather given my money to a more pleasant establishment. In the end I tried to minimise my contact with staff to avoid checking out early.

It was just a shame about the constant noise from other guests shouting down the corridor which was very echoey. Perfectly friendly staff on reception. Nice, but inexperienced, staff in the bar and restaurant. But, lift (permanently) out of order. No offer of help with luggage to my sister with walking difficulties getting up many flights of stairs to the second floor room.

Arrived after booking a superior room with view only to be given an attic room with skylights with no curtains. The room was also stifling hot due to a broken radiator outside the room. Was then moved to what should’ve been a better room but that was again far too hot for this time of year and the heating in the rooms is not adjustable and there was no fan in the room so had to get one sent to up. Around ten o’clock the internet dropped out so could not watch the telly as they run off the internet only with very limited channels. Decor is very tired with wall paper hanging off in places. Don’t be seduced by the exterior as this hotel is poor and is over priced. Will definitely not be returning.

Good option for a night away although the balance of a quiet setting is you are a taxi journey away from alternative food options. Always a good standard of cleaning with big rooms that can be cold so if you like it warm take an extra layer. No modern touches like USB sockets but the ancient ironing board near a mirror and socket does serve better than some hotels for putting your hair straighteners on!

We stayed at Christmas time in room 2 of the main manor house - the staff couldn’t have been nicer and more accommodating. The grounds are quite simply stunning - felt like a mini Downton Abbey. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee was piping hot. Water pressure in the shower was incredible. The property is a little tired, but that adds to its charm. For the price you can’t beat the experience in the area.

Having spent the day travelling we came down to breakfast at around 8:50. We got the impression that they were clearing away breakfast around us. There was no fruit salad although my wife was offered an apple instead. The juice machine is awful and despite the note regarding pushing water though the machine, the quality of the juice was almost undrinkeable. There was no decaff coffee option other than sachets of instant coffee. In this day and age it is amazing that no thought has been given to this. Even cheaper establishments that use similar coffee machines have a decaff option. I cannot believe that you cannot provide a cafetiere for customers who have to avoid caffiene. It all really detracted from what would have been a pleasant stay. Needless to say we had to make sure we were down early the next day to ensure we didn't feel rushed out.
