Friendly welcome all staff helpful and good breakfast included in the overnight stay.
Our room needed a little bit of TLC as ceiling light broken and ceiling decor looked tired.
But the rooms were clean, bed was comfortable, fresh clean towels provided and tea /coffee facilities well stocked.
Overall a nice relaxing quiet stay and would be happy to use again

Rooms very small accessible room had doors not widened so only just got in. Says has good access ability but steps into pub area with two doors. Unable to use accessible toilet due to function in that area. All tables had reservations on them so unable to eat there on evening.

Air conditioning meant the windows remained closed and outside noise kept to a minimum, while keeping the air in the room fresh. Room was not on a main road, but next to a footpath.
Beds were comfortable. Room and ensuite were clean.
Wifi was poor, maybe due to old building having thick walls.
No parking, but parked on the street to unload and check in. Inexpensive car park nearby.
Great for one night's stay.

The staff are amazing and really made us feel welcome! The pub is great, with lots of history, good food and great service.
The room itself is a bit dated, but clean with a comfortable bed. Love the old town location and 16th century history.

Charming old coaching inn. I stay here regularly when visiting Hemel. The service and breakfast is always excellent. Room no 1 is one of the smallest and usually OK. On this occasion, there was a noisy fan outside the room which meant I didn’t get much sleep.

Needs some work but could be a nice place.

The staff was great and Polite. No parking available had to walk 5 mins to carpark that you could only pay till 6pm then it was free till 8am but had to go back to get another ticket if you was planing on not leaving till after 8am. The place need a bit of freshing up. Stairs to my room was very steep and narrow. The room was ok but needed some work. The shower only had one temperature and that was cold. But the bath water got hot so not end of the world. Heating in my room, was either to hot or cold. Bath room needs a clean and lick of paint.
Food,
The cooked breckfast was alright not amazing. Coffee was horrible. Creamy mushroom starter was nice but a bit oily, stake and chips main, chips not cooked enough was hard and not sure what they put on the stake to cook but it ruined the taste.

This was a 1-night stay for work. I was in room 3, which was at the rear of the pub. The room was small with not a lot of floor space (which was okay for 1 night). Heating was from an air conditioner in ceiling, so could not have on over night as it made a noise. Ensuite was cold (this was in December) and just about alright for size. Wifi was good. There was a green exit light above the door which meant the room was not dark when lights off.

Breakfast is included and starts at 7am, but on my stay I had to wait until 7:30 for my cooked breakfast and I was the only person waiting for breakfast

The room was fabulous, beams and full of character. The bec was very comfy, especially the woollen blanket!
There was a fair bit of dust around. The bath was grubby. The shower headwould not stay up.
The menu for me was limited as I am a lactose intolerant coeliac but the chef did manage to conjure up a gluten free pizza base with vegan cheese, so full marks for him for effort!

We had booked for two nights, but we only stayed for one. I booked a twin room, but got one with a double bed and a single bed. The single bed was really uncomfortable, just a thin mattress over lumpy springs, so we couldn’t use it. The double bed was fine but the pillows were hard. The bathroom looked as though it had been refurbished, but the sink had a crack and the plug hole was dirty. The worst thing was the shower door. The plastic edging was filthy with green mould around the bottom. The pub was in need of refurbishment, the window frames were rotten and the stone floor behind where I was sitting had crumbled. The food was fine and staff were lovely. I would not go back and we left afte4 one night because nothing felt very clean.

We had an amazing stay. My friend and i took my daughter to harry potter studios, which was just 15 minutes away. The room was comfortable and clean, maybe just needs redecorating.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the food was great.
The area around the hotel was beautiful, well looked after with a beautiful park and play area.

Quirky place. Lots more atmosphere than the usual chain hotels. Great breakfast and friendly staff. Usual creaky floorboards and dodgy plumbing you find in old buildings. Could use dimmer lights in the emergency “alway on” lights in the bedroom and double glazing to keep the town noise out.

Been using this pub/hotel since it was first opened by the mother and son combo, stepping over off cuts of carpet and other things on the snagging list to get the place up and running. Have been back many times to visit my daughter who lives just up the road but this visit was a disappointment. The place needs a refurb, doors don't close, furniture damaged and things like the wrong light bulbs used in some areas. All top off by a 45 minute wait for breakfast, shame really.

Full of character and well worth a visit.

Lovely hotel and full of character. Makes a great change to the usual corporate clone hotels. Really friendly people and freshly cooked quality breakfast. It would be great if the fans in adjacent rooms could be replaced. They sound pretty ancient and are really noisy. As a light sleeper this makes it difficult to get a good night’s sleep.

We was greeted by a guy behind the bar. Saying we had a booking, he put a little sign out saying he would be back soon. He then took us to our room. My wife has walking disability. But, he just took his time and waited. Shame the weekend breakfast time was not before 8.30 am. But, the stay was still very good. even with window open, didnt hear much noise at all.

Lovely little place.

Recently stayed for a weekend with my wife. Stayed in room 4, which although it was compact it had everything you could need. Shower was amazing, bed was comfy and the air con/heating was perfect. The room was slightly dusty but not dirty, we wernt bothered by the dust, its an old building so expected it. Towels supplied along with teas, coffees, sugar and milk. Staff accomodated with everything we could need, english breakfast was lovely! Off the menu i cant recommend the steak sandwich enough!! Seperate entrance to the accommodation to come and go as we pleased which was nice. Could hear some noise from outside but i wouldnt say it was excessive and can hear other people walking around goin to their room but that is to be expected, nothing that would put us off staying again. Overall a great hotel to stay in, with lovely food & staff. Thanks for a great weekend.

Lovely hotel and staff, but in need of carpet wash

Lovely pub and hotel. The staff were very helpful and cooked breakfast and juices were good, although some plant-based milk would have been nice for cereals or coffee.

Room was well prepared and mostly clean, but let down by the carpet - it was in dire need of a wash. Unfortunately I didnt have time to highlight to the staff directly during checkout. However I'd still recommend based on the character of the place and the excellent staff.

Pay parking is nearby and gives you a break between 6pm and 9 am.

Lovely quirky hotel in the centre of the old town. Great Thai and Indian restaurants only a short walk away. Friendly staff and good breakfast. It’s a bit noisy and the emergency lights in the room never switch off. Overpowering air freshener had to be unplugged and out in a drawer.

Old Town pub with rooms - highly recommended.

This is a great pub with rooms. I used it a lot before the pandemic and starting to use it again now. It's a great place to stay when in Hemel Hempstead. Reasonably priced. Friendly staff. Cracking breakfast (served by the wonderful Michelle). I definitely recommend it.

Paid parking was very close by, but free from 6pm, & only 50p/hour, so no biggie.
Room was a little tired, but had aircon so a plus for summer use.
Rooms are directly opposite a nightclub & there are alot of very active bars in this highstreet.
There was noise for several hours ~1am - 3am, but yo be fair not the hotels fault & didnt really bother us, we were awake anyway.
This is actually a great spot for a night out, we had a great time within 100 yards on either direction, really enjoyed it.
Breakfast was good and overall price was very competitive.
Dint let the noise put you off, embrace it & nake some of your own.

Definitely not good value for money. Incredibly noisy; both inside and outside the pub with drunks wandering past shouting until well after 3:00a.m. The room was tiny without even a bottle of water on offer, although there were tea and coffee making facilities, and the tap water was lukewarm. Whilst not remotely the hotel's fault Expedia really let me down as I had searched for hotels in Berkhamstead and only found that I had managed to book a room in Hemel Hempstead for the night on finishing dinner in Berkhamstead. After a pretty much entirely sleepless night I gave up and set off for home at 6:00a.m. I will not use either Expedia or The Olde King's Arms again.

It’s right on the high street with lots of other pubs nearby so it was a bit noisy on the street outside til late, but expected somewhat if you’re staying at a pub that’s serving to midnight anyway. Wi fi down the entire time. Booked table for dinner and we were warned there was a private function setting up round us and that we needed to be gone by 6. At 5.15 were asked to finish up so felt a little uncomfortable. No Pizzas available on the menu and the platter for £17 wasnt worth the money. Breakfast was lovely and bed comfy.

This is a quaint pub, which is not contrived for tourists. People who are used to staying in old, quirky, one-off places will like this. Those used to slick, modern hotel rooms might struggle with some of the idiosyncrasies. Lots of little steps and stairs and low beams. Manager Brett was great.

Handy overnight stay

All other things being equal,I prefer to stay at smaller \"pubs with rooms\" types of places rather than pay \"The Corporate Dollar\" in a faceless bed factory. This place did not disappoint. A friendly welcome, a comfortable bed, a quiet night, a good night's sleep. No it's not The Ritz but it is good value, has character, with a personal touch and a superb, cooked-to-order breakfast. Expectations were met on the accommodation and exceeded on the food. I'd stay there again!

Lovely quaint period building, bed was amazing, shower nice and powerful, decor and fittings a little dated but adds to the character, breakfast was lovely, staff really friendly, they did not open until 4pm which was a bit frustrating but that was probably due to current restrictions. Beautiful part of the old town. I didn't eat there but the menu for the evening looked really nice, definitely recommended this hotel for a pleasurable stay.

Michelle - what a great host.

Upon arrival the team checking us in were helpful and professional, and showed us to our room. Upon entering the room there was an unusual smell and we asked if we could swap rooms, unfortunately for us the hotel was fully booked. As we only had one set of towels, when asked for an additional set the team also provided some air fresheners for the room. The pub is really quirky and a lovely building, but the cleanliness of the rooms needs some addressing and the room itself having some TLC put back into it. Unfortunately for the pub, the room backs onto a private carpark and someone in the flats needs to understand how to turn their car alarm off 2/3 nights it kept going off - so that along with a noisy revving motorbike meant we had very little sleep. The best part of the trip for us was being greeted by a very friendly, attentive and welcoming Michelle - she is a keeper! Breakfast was ok, but perhaps getting in some diary free butter was seal the deal for a cracking breakfast.

We stayed for One night before going to the Harry Potter experience.
Good points: it was clean, tidy and well maintained. Breakfast was nice with great coffee.

Bad points: the mattress was a little tired and I think the parking needs to be explained in more depth.
Parking is down the road in a pay& display. Its cheap as chips and If you really want they will reimburse you! But it’s not free.

We were supposedly ‘upgraded’ to a twin bed room that was for disabled people. Fortunately we do not require this but if we had it would have been virtually impossible to maneavor a wheelchairs inside the room due to lack of space. Sink was VERY low to accommodate a wheel chair but no hot water. Shower was good as was breakfast. However parking was a real issue and it’s not the easiest place to find!

Stopped for a few nights the staff and service were excerllent good location in the old town and easy to get to from the train station just a short taxi ride.

A comfortable and friendly stay

Our spacious room was excellent, The only difficulty are the narrow steep stairs in the very old building. This can be expected in a building with such history. The staff and the manager, Ben, were most accommodating, including allowing us to park in the hotels reserved space for the day after our one night stay there when we went into Central London by rail.

Overall not a bad place.
Room was fine but mattress topper was clearly needing cleaning as stain was visible through clean sheet. I mentioned this to the lady running the breakfast show, apparently they are getting new ones.

Breakfast menu stated cereals/fruit were available and to help ourselves, as well as the cooked breakfast menu.
There were no cereals /fruit available .....only cooked breakfast which was actually very nice.
Mixed feelings but wouldn’t totally rule it out if needing accommodation again. Staff were fine and helpful.

Lovely bed and breakfast on the High Street. Clean and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Less than minute's walk from a beautiful park. Excellent beer garden at the back. Good food and atmosphere

Our bedroom on the front of the hotel was warm, cozy and well laid out. The building itself was quirky and unusual in it’s historic layout.
Room very clean & bed super comfy. Decent breakfast.
The thing that really makes this hotel is the staff. They couldn’t do enough to make sure we were comfortable and looked after.
