A nice safe and quiet place to stay. Park right in front of your door. My dog loved the large grass area. The room was large and the beds very comfortable. The heat was on when we arrived which was great . It was cold and snowy that day. I loved having the self check-in and check out. We plan on going back the next time we are in the area.

1- door code didn’t work when we arrived. Needed to stand outside in the cold while we contacted the Red Lion front desk. Fortunately they reset it remotely.

2- my wife and I had a nice big bed but only . . . THREE (3) pillows? Is there a reason we couldn’t have 4 pillows? (2 each). This is what we’d get at any other motel in the US.

The curtains in the room were not wide enough for the window, and when they were fully closed there were two gaps over a foot long, not only did I awake at sunrise, but anyone who looked in the window could see me so I couldn’t change my clothes or get ready for bed. I had to go into the bathroom for everything. There is no management on site so no one to complain to. Checking in was awful. Locked and dark office at 4 pm. No signage at all, but I figured I better call the hotel number. That’s how you check in apparently but they made you figure it out yourself. Couldn’t be here be a s da ignition on the door telling you what to do. Too bad, the hotel could have been cute and perfect, but in my 73 years o have rarely had such a bad hotel experience

Run, don’t walk, away from this place, unless you don’t mind bedbugs, and body hair on your sheets. Also, there’s a bunch of kids, maybe 6, ranging in age from middle school to high school both male and female, all staying in one room, without any apparent adults. Although they were quiet, it was unsettling. We couldn’t stay there after discovering the bedbugs and called the “contact number” to request a refund. So far, it’s not been refunded.

IFirst of all, the key PIN number to my room didn’t work and there was no one available on-site. When I called the contact number, there was no answer so I had to leave a message and didn’t hear back from anyone for over an hour. The rooms are very dated, and there’s no coffee maker in the rooms. It is hard to believe the Red Lion Inn, a supposedly upstanding hotel, who consider this motel and offshoot of their larger hotel, would allow their name to be associated with this trashy place. As soon as we arrived, a school bus dropped off two young middle-school aged children who proceeded to enter one of the rooms and they were later joined by 4 other high-school aged looking kids, male and female, with 6 of them sharimg one room. I never saw any adults. While they were quiet, it was unsettling. My friend and I finally got into our adjacent rooms, and went out for dinner. Upon return, my friend’s room had several bugs in her bed and let’s just say south of the border body hairs! We called the number again, and this time someone did answer—we told them we were uncomfortable staying there and wanted to leave. After waiting while she contacted her “manager”, they did agree to refund us our money. We then packed up and left, around 10 pm for a two hour drive home. I am hoping they honor their agreement to refund us our money. At $175.00 a night for one room, this place was an utter disappointment.

This property was very disappointing. When I entered my room I was hit with the overwhelming smell of mildew. There was a large piece of tape covering a major crack in the wall of the room, and two additional cracks running the length of the wall. The shower head was caked in calcium and spewed water in all directions except where you were standing. Shabby and in need of repair. At $235/night this really was a ripoff. Don't waste your money staying here.

There was a water issue but mgmt kept us in touch with repairs.
Overall, I brought my own Bodum press for coffee and the refrigerator was awesome! I brought my own food so the retro fridge was way awesome and it had a freezer so i could keep my ice packs cold, plus it had an ice tray in case i did need it. nice touch.
The space looks like it is slowly getting a remodel but the room clean and quiet - i will stay again on my next trip.

There are better choices elsewhere

What a dump. Old, worn down and noisy rooms. Dirty floors and cobwebs from the bathroom ceilings. No coffee on site unless you bring your own machine (like we did). Room smelled funky and musty. Why the group that has the Red Lion and Porches would want this property in their portfolio is beyond my understanding. I'd never stay at either one now.

This place is kinda nice... design is nice. Room is comfy. But it strikes me as a a bit overpriced considering no one is ever on site. No front desk, no cleaning staff. If you need something, you need to drive to the Red Lion Inn about 10 minutes away.

Also, sounds travel in this hotel. This usually dies down around 11... but until then, you hear everything next door.

This part of MA seems to be littered with former (or actual) motels. Others have invested in refurbishing them into chic "boutique" hotels (Berkshires Untold in Pittsfield is an excellent example of this and somewhere I'd gladly stay again). Knowing how popular the Red Lion Inn is (Lenox) - although never having stayed there myself - I assumed their purchase of what was the Briarcliff would result in some refurbishment. It very clearly didn't.
Yes, they are dog-friendly, but that's the only good thing about this place.
It's falling to pieces. Water stains all over the bathroom walls, shower out of the '50s, the door refused to open numerous times, the bathroom blind fell on the floor because I dared to try to open it, sheets won't stay on beds, and everything is decrepit and filthy.
I'm horrified that ANYBODY has anything good to say about this place. And it was a total rip-off; they charged me over $300 per night.
So hell no to this place and since the Red Lion Inn appears to have no regard for the quality of their establishments, it's a hell no to their main hotel as well.

Easy parking and short drive to town. Grounds are well cared for. Self check in was easy. Our bathroom light/vent sounded like a jet engine and the air conditioning unit was noisy. The door to our bathroom looked like it had been scratched by an unhappy dog. Perhaps because it is pet friendly, it’s difficult to keep the bathroom floors clean?

I miss the Briarcliff

The Little Lion used to be the Briarcliff Motel 2 years ago. We stayed there 2 years ago specifically because it was dog friendly and the price was affordable.

The Red Lion has taken over the property in the past 2 years and the place has changed. It's still largely the same but instead of dog-friendly or dog-welcoming, it's more like "you can bring your dog", which is fine.

The cool and funky breakfast and staff are gone, and instead, you can drive 3 miles to the Red Lion parent hotel and buy breakfast (a tasty one) there.

There is no coffee in the rooms at the Little Lion, so we had to drive to the Red Lion to get some in the morning. Having in-room coffee would have been a low cost way of making our stay better.

The Little Lion's prices have gone up -- which I understand is just the cost of doing business -- but the amenities are fewer. Our in-room microwave didn't work.

I would probably go back again with our dog or even without our dog, but the great vibe it used to have (firepit for example) is no longer.

It’s a FINE motel but that is just what it is..a MOTEL. No coffeemaker or breakfast offered. For the amount of money we paid there should be some services available! Self check in and you can use the main hotel amenities that is located three miles down the road. It’s fine but it’s too hefty of a price tag for a motel.

Hidden gem with a couple of major caveats

I was going to review this place enthusiastically, and there were many things to be enthusiastic about at the price point. (Note, this is the Berkshire price point, for a Saturday night stay, several minutes from the summer home of the BSO, Tanglewood) Cheapest or one of the cheapest properties in the area. Cheap, but tasteful and fun furnishing and decorations, every room distinctive. Comfortable beds. Set back from the road. Beautiful property. Recently renovated bathrooms. Allows dogs. Here are the caveats:

First -- there is daily cleaning, but no other service at the site. You let yourself into your room using a code that is texted to you during the day of your first night's stay. If you need anything, you call the "parent" hotel several miles down the road. They are pleasant and responsive, but I don't think they will bring anything to you.

Second -- I didn't care about this but thought I would mention it -- the smallest flatscreen TV I have ever seen.

Third -- and this was the big disappointment -- a member of my party in another room found black mold in her bathroom.

Perhaps the last caveat is one of the types of costs the management is paying for not having personnel on site. Otherwise, I was prepared to rave about the place. I guess check your room carefully when you arrive and let them know if there is an issue. (We did not until we left, because we only stayed one night.)

This is a charming older motel that is quiet with spacious grounds. There was no check in- they just gave me my room number and my code. I personally loved that. It was during a terrible heat wave and the small AC window unit struggled to cool the room, but eventually did. There didn’t seem to be coffee anywhere on the grounds so I would have loved a coffeemaker in my room.

We were not impressed with The Little Lion Inn. It was definitely lacking in amenities. There was no ice or vending machine with beverages for purchase. There was no coffee machine in the room and no morning coffee available on the premises. The pool is not on the premises, but is 3 miles down the road at a partner inn ( The Red Lion Inn).We were staying just one night and that was plenty. We have stayed at The Red Lion Inn and it was lovely. They really missed the mark on this facility.

The property did not communicate with me about the unit and entry code until 1:30 pm for a 3 pm check-in. The property was similar to a 1970's Motel 6 which may be the "norm" for this area. While adequate, it was far from impressive or even "reflective of the cost."

Little Lion Inn provides very basic services in very clean facilities with a welcome atmosphere at the Red Lion Inn. a few miles up the road. There is nothing very remarkable about the property — but the Berkshires provide plenty of opportunities for beauty, well designed gardens, places to walk and relax.

Jack and Jane Fitzpatrick would be very upset if they had to stay in room 8. The rug over the carpet was bunched ib the middle which was very dangerous. Shower faucet caused us to get very wet when we had to turn it on. The floor also got wet because of a half glass permanent shower door. No coffee pot in room or on premises. Tiny television.

Good value- some rooms better than others

Check in was easy- received a door code via text.

We got a room for the weekend to ski. Options to bring a dog are limited so we took a gamble here vs the main hotel Red Lion for half the price. We stayed in a two bed room double. It was.. ok. The room was cute and kitschy. There was a mini fridge and a mini vintage appearing microwave. The beds were actually comfortable and bedding was overall pretty clean. (Unfortunately, when the sheet pulled up it showed evidence of stains on the mattress cover but we didn’t notice it until we were checking out :-( )

There was still crumbs on the floor and bits of other dogs food there. The bathroom was small— shower was updated but the floor wasn’t. Floor was not clean and had not been vacuumed.

Overall, it was a good value for the price! It was very functional and met our needs for a ski weekend where we just needed somewhere to sleep.We had other friends that stayed in King beds and they were more updated and cleaner. All the rooms had different layouts. Some had a small dining area and others with two chairs and a coffee table. Some bathrooms were really big!

There appeared to be a common area but it was not open.

I’d definitely book again but get a King. Maybe the full sized rooms will get an update soon!

Based on the reviews I was looking forward to staying here but when I walked into my room it smelled like dirty poorly cleaned carpet. The shower curtain also smelled really bad and I had to push it out which resulted in water on the floor. The smell of the room was so bad I had to sleep with the window open and I made reservations to sleep at a different hotel for my second night.

It was so convenient to check in. They send a code for the door, so it was super helpful when I am checking in later in the evening. Parking right outside my door. The room was super cute and nicely warm on a very cold day. The one issue I had was the walls are very thin so I could hear every conversation in the room next door, and was woken up by screaming children.

We stayed at the Little Lion for one night, this past weekend. We actually stayed at this motel years ago, when it was under different ownership. The price was reasonable for the area, as it is in-between seasons. As the website states, this is a contact-free motel, so there is no staff on-site. While this did not bother us, it may be concerning/confusing to some. Email communication prior to our arrival was great. We were sent a text before the 3:00 check-in time, with a code to get into our room. The system seemed to work well, and we had no issues. Our room had a king sized bed, dresser, space to hang a few coats, two chairs to sit on, nightstands, clock, a retro-looking microwave and fridge. There was also a desk with a chair. The bathroom had plenty of towels for a few nights, and refillable soap dispensers on the sink (retro-pink!), and a refillable conditioning/shampoo bottle in the shower. I love this...no plastic waste! I think the 2nd bottle in the shower should have been filled with soap, but it seemed to be conditioner, as it was very oily and did not lather at all. The motel is set back far enough from busy Route 7, that we did not hear any traffic noise. We had quiet neighbors, although the walls are thin and you could hear talking/coughing, etc., from next door. The carpet could use some attention. It appeared dirty in the high traffic area around the bed. Other than that, the room was clean, comfortable, and in a GREAT location! Would recommend!

The retro decor was charming. Having our dog with us was wonderful. Negatives: website says "continental breakfast" - the lobby/office was not opened from when we arrived on Friday until we checked out on Sunday - no staff, no coffee and no coffee makers in the rooms. Also our microwave didn't work.

Use caution when booking

This was a "self service" property, i didn't know there was such a thing before this trip, so now I know! You get the door code via email or text shortly before the stay.
There is no one on the property for quick questions, help, etc. This motel is affiliated with another similar named property just up the road, so probably owned by them.
Anyway, besides the weird atmosphere of an unattended motel, the main issues we had were... the king bed had only 3 pillows, not enough, there was no extra blanket, nothing, and there was no coffee machine, which we've come to expect with the absolutely cheapest properties, especially with one like this that was out on the highway by itself, so nothing close by. We have definitely spent much less for much more in the past, and in fact, on this latest trip through New England, we got more for less.
However, I would recommend caution when you are booking... we had no indication that this property was not staffed. We stayed at one other "self service" motel also, but it was somewhat better (I still would not stay there again - paid too much for too little).

Quite honestly, I was quite disappointed with my stay. There was a fake fingernail on the bathroom floor & the shower was impossible to keep water from the surrounding bathroom floor. There were no staff anywhere on the premises but instead up the road at the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge & having anyone answer the phone was sketchy. I would have appreciated a way to make coffee in the room as it was a drive into town & nothing was open. I would not stay again & am disappointed at the Red Lion Inn.

We were just a few days before we arrived that the Briarcligf hotel was just taken over by the Red Lion Inn. The lobby was shuttered with no staff on site so we had to drive to the Inn for breakfast...parking there was a challenge. Room was clean but shower had minimal glass wall enclosure so many towels were needed to mop up the floor. Return to the motel from the town is a nerve-wracking left turn...a blinking light would surely help. The Little Lion is a work in progress.

Was like walking back in time. Peaceful .If you want coffee in the morning you will need to bring some instant and make in the microwave.

Self check in was a surprise but fine once we got email explaining it. Beds very comfortable; room clean and nice shower. Furnishings mixture of antique and modern.
