Unfortunately, the Terrace Room did not match the impression given by the website photos and did not meet expectations for the $239-per-night rate.
The room is on the ground floor with a private entrance (which was great!), but it is located directly beside the owner’s suite, with the terrace facing the entrance to the owner’s residence. As a solo traveler, this setup made me feel uncomfortable and I did not want to utilize the sitting area.
There were also cleanliness issues, including noticeable brown stains on the curtains, red stains on the carpet, and tears and hairs in the sheets.

3) On their website they emphasize that they are not only about the \"Bed\" but also about the \"Breakfast\". They don't mention anywhere on their website the times they serve breakfast so I assumed they were flexible. At check-in I was told that breakfast is served at 8:30 and 9:30. I had to be out the door at 7:30 so these times didn't work for me. Initially, I was told they will check to see if anything could be done about it. Once the innkeeper returned, he called me to confirm I couldn't make the breakfast times, didn't offer any alternatives and encouraged me to make coffee using the self-serve machines on my way out. Had I seen their set breakfast times anywhere on their website, I wouldn't have stayed there.

A must if if in the area or to visit on its own! I have never felt more comfortable and more at ease than with the Innkeeper, Joe, whose kind and thoughtful professionalism sets a standard others should follow. A beautiful, peaceful, and kind inn is always worth a visit!

My husband and I’s mini-honeymoon stay at the Wayside Inn was great! The room we had was clean, spacious, charming, and cozy all at once.
Mr. Joe the innkeeper was very friendly and was always there when we needed him for anything. He also cooks a mean breakfast and has a great knowledge of the unique history of the property.
Overall, it was a great place to get away from the bustle and noise of the city and just relax! Hopefully we will get to come back soon 😊

I really enjoyed my night here! The room had so much charm, and the jetted tub and waterfall shower were lovely! The bed was very comfy and we slept very well! Breakfast was prompt and delicious! Wayside Inn in Ellicott City, MD is a beautiful 18th century home. The owner / host is great. We stayed on the third floor. Even though it is very close to a freeway, we were not bothered by any noise. The food was delicious. Our group of three had a small separate dining room to ourselves. The home is charming and full of period pieces, but bathrooms have been modernized and the beds were very comfortable. This was much more fun than being in a hotel. Definitely worth checking out.

I had an overall good experience at the wayside Inn. I just felt like it was dated and sort of disjointed. For example, a massage chair In the living room seemed very out of place. There was also some Christmas decorations still up That just seem to be forgotten and it is September. However, it was the most comfortable bed. I have slept iin a very long time! Joe was very nice and the end was special. I just think it would take not a lot of effort to make it seem more charming. I would still say again!

Lovely historical home Joe our host is very attentive and clearly cares about his property and guests. We saw deer early in the morning in the peaceful garden. Our room was very spacious with a living area. The home is cozy but could use a deep clean as we noticed a bit of dust on the decorations in our room but overall the property is kept well. Joe made a point to keep guests segregated during breakfasts as it seems people in that area are still keeping the Covid era alive. Disappointing as one reason to stay at a B&B is to meet new friends when traveling. Overall a nice experience.

We enjoyed our brief 1-day stay at the Wayside Inn in Ellicott City, MD. Joe the Innkeeper was gracious, welcoming, and attentive and offered insights regarding the history of the B&B and prior owners who essentially established the inn. The features of the inn were consistent with many online reviews. Our room, the Pierpoint deluxe suite, was specious and comfortable. A really nice poster bed and great shower. The views were also nice. Wish it had been winter and we could have used the fireplace.
As noted in other reviews, the floors were extremely squeaky, though to be expected from a historic building. Staircase could be a little tricky for older guests, though we were fine. Breakfast was quite tasty and Joe was proud of his culinary skills. It would have been great if more tea choices were available, and other amenities like espresso. Entrance and front and backyards could benefit from maintenance to remove overgrown flora and enhance the beauty of the property. Lastly, wishing that the owner had more branded mugs in stock (like other B&Bs we have stayed at) so that we could have purchased as a keepsake and helped promote his brand…

Got in very late (1am) and Joe was super accommodating! We slept well in the comfortable bed on the 3rd Fl (Betty’s room). This B&B is so charming, I think it’s from 1790! The next day we explored Old Elicott Coty and went to a show at Post Merriweather Pavillion. The breakfast the next day was delicious and huge! Joe gave us some history and it was fun hearing his story! Would def stay again! No elevators for those who can’t do stairs just an FYI.

Joe seemed very demanding and lacked hospitality. His family paraded around in pajamas. He claimed to give me an upgrade but the room I did stay in had no amenities listed on Expedia. The shower wouldn't drain. Sadly, I was there for my Father's funeral but he was more worried about breakfast than he was empathetic about why we were there in the first place. Not to mention, he never accomodated our vegetarian diet needs instead he served grilled cheese and eggs for two days. Then, told me he had too much to do to get to the store to buy veggies. To top it all off he charged me for God knows what now I'm in the middle of a dispute. Stay anywhere else...this place is not worth the trouble.

This was our first time at a bed and breakfast. We've lived in an older home a few years ago and this definitely brought back the memories! We loved the quietness, the amenities, the comfortable bed and bedding! We even we're able to get chocolate covered strawberries to celebrate our anniversary!

The property was lovely with clean, well appointed rooms in a very special early American property. Joe, the proprietor, is an excellent cook! The breakfast was wonderful and the Inn is close to everything in Ellicott City area as well as Baltimore. Also, had time to play some golf while there. Several great courses nearby! A quick overnight stay that left me wanting more! Everything about the place is wonderful and exceeded my expectations. The new owners are ably carrying on a long tradition of gracious hospitality. The two-room, 3rd floor Margo's suite was quiet, full of light, with lots of attention to comfort and decor. The owner left fresh fruit salad with yogurt for me, since I had to depart before breakfast. The stairs in this historic c.1780 stone manor treasure were somewhat of a challenge for my old legs, but manageable.

I have stayed at a lot of bed and breakfasts in my time, and this one was absolutely one of the best! The host was professional and extremely personable and a stellar chef to boot. Breakfast was simply marvelous. Our suite was outfitted with a large jetted tub, cozy gas fireplace and comfy bed with a private entrance. This establishment is perfect for an overnight romantic getaway. Recommend spending some time in nearby Ellicott City: lots of trendy shops and great eateries!

We were here for a quick get away and it was Ellicott City that drew us here, but honestly we could have just stayed at The Wayside Inn the entire time and would have been just as nice. We were very comfortable staying here, although treated like guests we didn't feel like guests, we felt like we belonged there. The host was extremely welcoming and enjoyed our conversations with him. He directed us to great food in Ellicott City, which was about a mile or so away. The breakfast was amazing. We stayed until the minute we had to check out because we didn't want to leave. The rooms were very comfortable and has everything you'd need and more. If you are looking for a get away, like us, this place is it.

Our weekend started off a little awkward showing up to the Wayside Inn, unsure of what to expect we kept with the flow. We were welcomed upon arrival with a stare, and I had to ask if we were in the right place or if we should leave. It seems that only Susan was with us the two nights we were there. We conversated after a few minutes and discussed that for breakfast she would make either french toast or pancakes in the morning. We went to our room, which had other people's scratch paper notes laying around the room, but it was clean, and the shower was excellent. The ground was beautiful, but the food and the service were sub-par. After reading all the fantastic reviews, I thought we were in for a treat, and I was persuaded that the breakfast was generous, but my boyfriend left hungry every morning. We were there for his birthday weekend, and he didn't even receive a Happy Birthday. Bed and breakfasts have spoiled us in the past; this one needs a host who wants to be there. It seemed as if we were an inconvenience. We came down for breakfast seven minutes early to get some coffee and just sit outside of the room, and the hostess seemed very disconcerted about this, instead of saying Good Morning. So the next morning we made sure we waited up 0930 to even leave our room. It was not worth the price, and I cannot recommend this place.
