I’ve held off writing this review for a while, but I feel the time has come to share my experience.
First impressions were very good — the hotel was welcoming, very clean, and in a great location. In fact, I can’t really fault the stay itself. However, there were a few issues that changed my overall view.
The front desk is not manned as it states on the website, which means it’s impossible to simply ask a question in person. That’s inconvenient enough, but the bigger problem came the day before we were due to leave. Our room had been cleaned, and I discovered that some of our clothes had been mistakenly discarded by the cleaner. I fully accept that accidents happen, but when I tried to contact the hotel immediately (via Hotels.com and text message), I received no response until two days later — after we had already left.
The hotel did eventually confirm that the cleaner hadn’t realised the bag with our washing wasn’t rubbish. While I appreciated the explanation, communication has since stalled, particularly after I requested reimbursement for one item of expensive clothing. This lack of response has been very disappointing.
So, would I recommend this hotel? The simple answer is: only for its location and cleanliness. It feels more like an Airbnb than a true hotel, and if service or support matters to you, this may not be the right choice.

We had a wonderful stay at Pension BUENPAS. The accommodation is situated in a very central location, just a 5-minute walk from La Concha, allowing us to explore all the key attractions on foot. The room and amenities are basic but perfectly suited for short stays. Both the room and shared spaces were immaculate. Jon was incredibly helpful and kind, going above and beyond to ensure we had an excellent experience. We will definitely choose to stay here again on future visits to San Sebastian.

Great stay in a nice and quiet area of the city only minutes away from the bustling town. The rooms are squeaky clean with all the amenties one needs. The host was also incredibly helpful by providing us with local tips - we tried some of the best places as a result and tried the local favourite pintxos.

We booked this place last minute and Jon was excellent at getting all the info we needed for parking and checkin quickly. We received a very detailed message about where to park and how it works as well as instructions on how to get in our room. We didn’t have any issues with either. The place was very nice and clean. We met Jon in the morning to get the discounted parking ticket and he was so friendly and showed us the map of the town and his favourite places to eat. Excellent service all around.

This is our 8th visit to San Sebastián and we have finally found the ideal place to stay with an ideal location for all amenities. The owner Jon and his wife are amazing and really looked after us. Very Clean, really comfortable, Netflix tv, coffee station in lobby , what more can you ask for. I would definitely recommend here and we will both be returning 🍺

Worst ‘hotel’ have ever been in. Room not big enough to swing a cat, despite being very expensive. Also very stuffy and extremely loud. Hotel is located on very busy street that is impacted by buses, partygoers, and rubbish trucks at all hours of the night. Despite requesting twin beds we had to settle for a small double. Avoid rooms 1 and 2 at all cost (not only are they located above the busy street but you have to share a bathroom with strangers!) Note also San Sebastián is cold and very rainy, even in summer, so don’t go expecting sun and beach.

The place was in a great location, simple flight of stairs to walk up to get into the place. We were able to walk everywhere by foot from here. The rooms were clean and facilities were all new. You can hear the noise from the corridor but this was not a big issue and we slept through. There is coffee and tea facilities provided with some lollies / biscuits which were a big hit for us.

Hotels.com didn’t have our reservation. Pension Buenpas put us up for 1 night then were full so put us in another said it was more expensive they paid but it was tiny. Poor communication as we left something behind and tried to get our new pension to ring them so we could collect it and they never got back to us. Disappointing for a great location

Great stay at Pension Buenpas! The room was small but convenient, the shared bathroom was very clean. Jon, the owner, and his staff were extremely helpful. They suggested a lot of nice restaurants and things to do in San Sebastián and also helped us make reservations (for those who do not speak Spanish). I strongly recommend this place!

Pensión Buenpas has a great location. It’s very close to the train stations, the beach, stores, restaurants and the Old Town. Jon was very helpful and nice, even before we arrived. He gave us very useful information about how to get there, places to eat and things to do in San Sebastián. We enjoyed his recommendations and had a great time. Super clean and cozy. We went to visit for a day, a Sunday. Almost everything in San Sebastian was closed, and it was raining. Our host saved the day and told us about local tapas spots, gave us an specific route, and pretty much planned our day. Very attentive. Lovely room, central to most sights and amenities (we walked with our luggage from the train station on arrival and to the bus terminal on departure) and a well stocked common area for tea and coffee making. The staff were friendly and the rooms were clean but it was really uncomfortable as there was no AC and it was a hot night. We needed to leave the window open because it was hot but then it is a very noisy street at night so we had a really bad nights sleep.

Excelente localização, perto de tudo, estacionamento pago muito próximo. O único porém foi a porta do banheiro que era de correr e não estava muito bem encaixada, caindo no pé da minha amiga. Na hora achamos que tinha quebrado dois dedos, mas por sorte só fez uma luxação. Proprietário foi muito atencioso. A rua está em obras, mas não atrapalhou em nada.

Es una pensión muy apañada muy cerca de todo. Cerca del centro, de la parte nueva y de la playa. Teníamos una habitación con baño privado, muy contentos, la verdad. Las camas muy cómodas y baño impecable. Jon (el dueño) super amable, te ayuda con todo, información de la ciudad, donde ir, donde comer, consejos, etc. además tiene un pequeño recibidor con máquina de café, hervidor de agua, infusiones... Respecto al coche: tienen un convenio con un parking cercano con lo cual sale bastante asequible (teniendo en cuenta los precios del resto de aparcamientos en San Sebastián.. ). En resumen: volveremos!!!
