Gorgeous hotel with ample amounts of charm. The location is excellent for exploring Tuscany and Florence. It has every bit the look and feel of a five star hotel that costs hundreds of dollars more. That being said, it lacks the touches of a true luxury hotel. Bath amenities were scarce (no conditioner, bath wash, or wash cloths provided and the hair dryer was one you would find in a cheap motel) the lack of power outlets also made the room challenging. However, for the value you simply will not find a more authenticity Tuscan resort. I will happily return (a little better prepared) for our next Tuscan holiday.

Relais Della Rovere is a beautiful hotel, with comfortable, well appointed rooms and a lovely pool. The breakfast spread is really incredible, and having afternoon drinks around the pool was divine. Parking is easy, and it was a convenient location to the areas of Tuscany we were exploring. And the staff were helpful an very friendly!

The hotel is located next to a small village with a nice historic part of town which includes a number of great restaurants. Location is central only 20-30 minutes away from Florence and Siena. Hotel is super nice, fully up to date. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We loved our stay and would come again and recommend it to our friends.

Two days stop to enjoy hotel life before heading in to country resort. Very friendly staff, great food in the restaurant, clean rooms and beautiful building. In a walking distance from Colle Val Di d’Elsa center if you don’t mind the hills.

This place is quite nice, however, we booked a junior suite with a bathtub in the picture. Upon arrival, there was no bathtub, however the bathroom was brand new and gorgeous. The place is clean and organized. However in our room our AC didn’t properly function. In result we needed a way to cool the room and the front desk was kind enough to get us a fan. We paid a lot of money to stay in the junior suit. The AC has to work. The restaurant was amazing and breakfast was fantastic. They charged us an arm and a leg to do wash laundry. After staying 2 days in a room with no air conditioning, the least they could have done is given us the laundry service complementary. But nothing. Overall, friendly staff and kind people. This place was fine if it wasn’t for the damaged air conditioning.

Beautiful setting. Great service.

The service and the setting were excellent. The breakfasts were very satisfying. The buildings are charming. It's helpful to have a car as the town is a 15 minute walk. Unfortunately, the bathrooms (we moved once) need a good deep-cleaning in the corners and lighting needs to be improved. We thoroughly enjoyed the Chianti Wine tour that they arranged and they were extremely helpful in requesting taxis for us.

This place was a passage in time to life in the XI century but with \"modern\" bathrooms.It is a converted monestary with ties to Pope Julius II. While the bathrooms were fine, there was no stand up shower in our bathroom. Beautiful view to the courtyard and tree lined ancient buildings. Restaurant was fabulous and an entertaining menu of creative combinations run by the waiter and his wife the chef in the kitchen.

Lovely hotel with a great swimming pool and beautiful grounds. Service was brilliant. Breakfast was great - lots of choice each morning. Restaurant food was tasty but a little pricey. The restaurant across the road had fantastic food and was very affordable - worth a visit although they are very busy and so service was very slow.
Room was adequate if a little dated. Bathroom needs an upgrade. The walls were paper thin so you could hear everything from the people next door. However the aircon kept the room cool and the bed and pillows were comfy. Would stay again!

Nice grounds but lacking some amenities

Place was interesting with nice character, however the a/c didn’t work and we asked the concierge to make a reservation at a resturaunt and upon arrival they were closed. We also were expecting laundry service but that is only available during the week. If that is the case it should be noted.

Convenient location for Tuscan hill towns. Atmospheric converted Tuscan building. Would benefit from better Maintenance. No standing shower in our bathroom and tub should be replaced.

Elegance and Comfort

This inn, located in a historic abbey, is the epitome of the beautiful and luxurious European vacation escape. The surroundings are graceful, calm, and cool (even in a heatwave). My family and I actually did stay there during the recent European heat wave, and the expansive pool, nestled in the trees and surrounded by comfy chaises, was a perfect antidote to the heat. The inn was large enough to provide space for privacy and contemplation.

The service was both gracious and efficient and the food, including a sumptuous buffet breakfast served in regal surroundings, was excellent.

Staff is very nice at this hotel. Grounds and pool are lovely. Rooms we older and beds not very comfortable (more like cots.) The setting for the hotel was not what we expected. Off a busy road across from a retail/restaurant complex. From the description I thought it was located in a more countryside setting.

Couldn't walk to the old town. Lift was broken and it would not be an easy walk.

A lovely location, just minutes away from a gorgeous historic town. Well looked after by all of the staff who were welcoming, friendly and extremely helpful.
Lovely room, excellent breakfast, superb restaurant on site, can't really fault the stay. Very impressive.
Nice pool area, always clean, attentive staff looking after your individual needs on a daily basis.

A wonderful base for exploring Tuscany

This is a beautiful set of buildings - the main one being a former monastery and home to a Cardinal in past times. Take time to look at the architecture of the place. We were staying in the Farmhouse block - cleaning and grounds were so friendly and accommodating. Breakfast very good - the staff will even make you a coffee of your choice! Front desk very helpful when we wanted to book an evening of Opera very comfortable and cool. We can really recommend this hotel - front desk, breakfast waiting staff, Arias in Siena - they did it all for us. Grounds gorgeous, even a swimming pool, what more could you ask for? Great situation for exploring Tuscany, with many walled Medieval towns within easy reach.

Relais Della Rovere is a beautiful monastery from the 11th century that has been renovated and decorated to create an austere, tranquil, pleasant environment. The staff is wonderful and speak multiple languages. The grounds are beautifully kept with plenty of greenery and an inviting swimming pool.

This hotel was ideal for us driving through Tuscany, not much around though so when we realised the restaurant was shut on the night we were there it was a change of plan and we drove to Sienna for dinner. The hotel room was massive and had character and the place its self was very nice. I wish the weather was nicer to make use of the pool. The breakfast was also very nice.

What a fantastic place. The old medieval building is amazing. The staff were all very nice and Marco bent over backwards to ensure my stay was perfect. There is a lovely ristorante down in the cellars. A lovely pool outside and amazing views of the old city up on the hill. I will visit this hotel again

It's really a fabulous property. They say the restaurant is good but we weren't able to try is as it was completely booked. However, directly across the street is a great pizzeria that is much more than a pizzeria. Other than that though the pickings are slim and you will have to get in your car and drive to find food.

A beautiful authentic Tuscan hotel

We stayed for a week, but wished it could be longer, mainly due to the sincere and helpful nature of all the staff. Whatever we needed to know about the locations we were visiting they had extremely good advice, provided maps and gave useful tips about parking and areas of interest. One of our days was spent sitting by the pool side, which was extremely relaxing and the staff again, were extremely tentative making our whole holiday very pleasant and memorable. We particularly loved that the hotel has managed to retain an air of it's old ancient monastery roots whilst still attending to modern needs.

An 11th century monastery that is like a resort. Large comfortable rooms, nice staff. Loved relaxing by the pool and swimming after touring Siena, which is 15 minutes away. There are other walked hilltop towns nearby too. Then can walk to an eatery across the street or drive into town for a nice walk and evening.

Tranquil place to stay

A former monastery which provided a wonderful tranquil atmosphere. Comfortable good sized rooms. An excellent sized swimming pool. Good breakfast with a wide choice to eat. We had a lovely stay. Only downside was that it is 10 mins walk from the town although after a big meal it helped to walk off the excess. I would definitely use again if in the area. The staff were very helpful.

My husband and I stayed at hotel Relais Della Rovere for 5 marvelous days. Our room was big and spacious and clean, with comfortable bed. The foods in their restaurant are excellent. All the staffs there are very friendly and extremely helpful.
The hotel location is nearby to other wonderful Tuscany towns.

Splendid respite in a village off the beaten path

My wife and I were looking for a hotel with a rustic ambience somewhere in the Tuscany region. We booked on the fly while in a limited wifi zone from the office of our lodging in Riomaggiore. The hotel delivered in every way, with wifi in the very spacious room, a pool in which to relax and lounge next to, and a restaurant in the ancient basement, Il Cardinale, featuring the best of local Tuscan cuisine.

Overall, the hotel experience was most pleasing and good value for the price, especially considering the quality of the food in the included breakfast buffet.

I recommend anyone with a desire for a relaxing stay to visit this hotel; we will be back.

Not a Tuscon hotel, a stop over at best

We booked this hotel before setting off on a trip round the Rivierra, Tuscany, and the southern lakes. It was one of the few bookings we made in advance based on its description and photos - it looked idilic. When we arrived (having just had 2 nights in a fabulous hotel in Radda in Chianti) we realised within minutes we had made a big mistake.

Quite simply:- 1. it is in a very built up location (in contrast to the pictures and arial photos suggesting it in the countryside). 2. its facilities are poor and run down, the swimming pool in particular, which again bares no resemblance to the photos, has grass sods growing out of the concrete flags around it and has all the appeal of a jacquzi in a back garden of a council house in Wolverhampton. 3. The town and its surroundings are industrial and ugly in comparison to the beauty of the country less than 20 miles away. 4. The rooms again unfortunately bare little resemblance to the photos and are fitted with low quality furnishings. 5. The staff were polite but completely unable to deal with our dissapointment and the manager wasn't available to speak with us.

We had booked 3 nights and left after the first night loosing our money but we felt it better to do that than stay somewhere that would spoil our trip.

Our advice to anyone traveling this region and looking for beautiful countryside and quality hotel locations is do your research and don't use this one.

We greatly enjoyed the stay at Relais Della Rovera and would like to point out the very friendly and helpful hotel personell. It seemed that everyone relished working in this well run hotel and thus the service was excellent. Besides, we loved the pool (including its bar service), the historic building, the location, the free internet-access and the hotel restaurant. When you don't mind that the very clean rooms have a basic furnishing, you will very likely enjoy this hotel.

We stayed at the hotel for 8 nights and had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday. The interior/exterior of the hotel are as they appear in its website photos; an old abbey, set in spacious, tranquil gardens, on the edge of town. The hotel has a calm, peaceful atmosphere throughout. The swimming pool has a lovely setting in the gardens and was a welcome facility after the heat and bustle of Florence and Sienna. Our bedroom was one of those shown in the photos; very clean, with interesting features - beamed ceiling, small external staircase, and invitingly cool in the summer heat. Our son's bedroom also had attractive features. All the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. The restaurant in the courtyard has a serene atmosphere. We ate there once; excellent food although we found it expensive. Across the road from the hotel is a restaurant/bar where the food is excellent; we had breakfast there and some evening meals. There is also a very useful and helpful supermarket hidden just around the corner. The location of the hotel couldn't be better, giving access by road or bus to Florence, Sienna, and the many hill top towns. As recommended by another reviewer, take the minor roads for spectacular views. The information centre in the main piazza is very helpful for bus times/tickets;these buses start at the bus terminal in town and then come up past the hotel where there is a stop. Buy your tickets at the information centre or pay when you get on; the latter is more expensive.

Relax and enjoy

On arriving at the hotel the staff were very polite and we instantly relaxed in the calm atmosphere. The hotel was quiet and relaxing with every thing catered for. The staff were pleasant but not intrusive. A great place to stay if visiting other areas of tuscany Sienna and Florence only an hour away and good access to the motorways.

This place was very difficult to find because the route from the Autostrada had been closed due to construction. It is located some 5 minutes' drive from the town, on a hill, providing us with a lovely view of the countryside and town. The place itself is charming in its design and the staff very courteous.

The restored abbey was everything the literature said it to be. Very modern, clean, and professionally run. The front office help was extremely helpful in giving us ideas for our visit and directions. A convenient strip mall across the street had a small market, coffee shop, and restaurant which was very convenient and appreciated.

Beautiful upscale hotel, top notch staff and 1st class restaurant. Lovely large air conditioned room with a true king bed that was very comfortable. Staff was most helpful with special requests and travel information. The buffet breakfast was absolutely the best we've eaten in Europe - probably because it's tied to the restaurant where we also dined in the evening at the end of our travels. We also appreciated the Internet access that let us further research the towns and keep in touch. Most convenient with lots of parking and close proximity to major roads.

Waste of time and money

This hotel is not some Tuscan villa in the middle of nowhere but rather a hotel on a truck route less than 1/2 kilometer from an industrial park in the suburbs of a small town. It is surrounded by houses, shopping malls, etc and in NO WAY resembles the setting presented in its advertising or on this site. The hotel may have been beautiful but I would not know having been placed in the worst room in the hotel just off the main office and comletely isolated from any of the amenities. Our room had its own private ground floor patio that was simultaneously the entrance via a door to the cleaning staffs supplies and on a route a group of patrons had to traverse to get anywhere in the hotel from their rooms. My complaints were met with an Italian shoulder shrug. The worst hotel experience in a month's travelling throughout Italy staying in 4 and 3 star hotels (many of which were way above this so-called four star in quality and service). Do NOT stay here. Be for-warned.

Beautiful setting with a lot of character!

We stayed at the Relais for 5 nights while we toured Tuscany. It is a beautiful hotel with a lot of history and character. The grounds are beautiful, the pool too. It was a little difficult to find the hotel the first time. Follow exact instructions. We were able to upgrade our room to one with a spectacular view of Colle Val D'Elsa (because they had vacancies). The hotel is very charming and quaint. We had the breakfast only once. It was nice, but we preferred to eat on the road. Our room and bathroom were very large. The bedroom had plenty of storage. The bathroom had 2 vanities and was also very spacious. The linen was very nice. It was very clean. The hotel is well located if you want to visit the Chianti region and San Gimignano / Volterra / Sienna. The staff was very pleasant. The pillows were not so great (flat, thin and hard) so after 5 nights my ears and neck were sore. It was a true king size bed (not 2 single put together) which was nice.

This former 11th century Abbey was a lovely find in the middle of Chianti region, close to Florence, Siena & several small medieval towns and many Chianti wineries! Would go back to this exact hotel next time.

Die Unterkunft selbst war schön, leider war das Personal nicht sehr freundlich und wirkte eher genervt bzw. gelangweilt. Die Frühstücksauswahl war definitiv vielseitig. Die Zimmer wurden nicht wirklich gereinigt. Die Bettwäsche wurde nicht gewechselt bei 3 Nächten, auch der Boden im Badezimmer wurde nicht gewischt. Es lagen viele Haare 3 Tage lang an der selben Stelle auf dem Boden. Echt schade, weil die Unterkunft schön ist.

Disappointed!

Very plain hotel. Nothing special for the price they charge. Feels like an old hospital. The rooms are dark without much light. It’s next to a road so do not expect beautiful countryside hotel. Pictures are very misleading.

The hotel itself was great. Charming building and rooms. Nice staff. Great bar in the lobby. What we couldn’t understand were the appraisals for the breakfast. Breakfast was more or less standard. Nothing special. No vegan alternatives on milk or yogurt which should be standard nowadays in my opinion. The coffee was terrible even the ordered one which is kind of a surprise in an Italian hotel.
But besides of the breakfast everything was great.

Ho soggiornato due notti presso Relais della Rovere, accompagnata dalle mie cugine e in mio cane.
Ho trovato la struttura impeccabile sia a livello di pulizia che di comfort. Mi è davvero piaciuto molto l'accoglienza per i cani, sono super dog Friendly, in camera abbiamo trovato ciotole e tappetini igienici. Grazie davvero per l'ospitalità

Super schöne Unterkunft mit grossem Pool und Liegewiese (mit Getränkeservice). Unser Superiorzimmer war geräumig und sauber. Das Personal sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Grosse Auswahl beim Frühstück. Sehr schöne Aussenlocation beim Abendessen. Essen war sehr lecker und schön angerichtet.

Var inte som på bilderna med rummet. Vi fick ett rum under jorden med små fönster så var instängt och mörkt tyvärr, trots att vi bad om ett fint rum innan. Vi fick sen byta och det blev då bättre.

Buona scelta vicino al bel parco dell'Elsa

Il Relais della Rovere e' un buon hotel con un ottimo rapporto qualita' prezzo.
Le cose positive:camera con arredi nuovissimi di gran gusto,la struttura che e' molto bella,la vicinanza con il parco del fiume Elsa che puo' essere tranquillamente raggiunto a piedi dall'hotel
La colazione non e' stata invece particolarmente piacevole in quanto dal buffet venivi servito da una signora con fare un po' sbrigativo e la scelta non era molto varia.
La zona piscina inoltre risulta un po' trascurata
Comunque complessivamente lo consiglio e ci ritornerei

Parfait pour visiter la Toscane

Hôtel très bien situé non loin de Florence, de Sienne et des villages à visiter. Parfait pour visiter en voiture la région d’autant que le parking de l’hôtel est vaste, gratuit et sécurisé. L’hôtel a été créé dans un ancien monastère restauré, les extérieurs sont magnifiques. Les chambres, bien qu’un peu vieillissantes surtout au niveau de la salle de bain, sont très calmes et grandes avec toutes les commodités et beaucoup de rangements pour ses vêtements.
Le petit déjeuner est très varié avec des produis frais mais attention plutôt compter une fermeture à 9h30 car à partir de cette heure peu de réassort, un peu tôt !
Les deux points noirs de ce lieu :
- la présence des moustiques trop importante surtout autour de la piscine qui devient vite un lieu où il est difficile de rester se reposer sans lotion. Il serait urgent de faire une démoustication régulière dans cet endroit pourtant magnifique avec une piscine très agréable. Nous y sommes juste allés pour se baigner car en même pas 1/4 h, 3 piqûres.
- la réactivité du personnel pas toujours à la hauteur car nous avons signalé une fuite d’eau importante de la baignoire dès le 3ème jour de notre séjour et rien n’a été fait. Peut être l’avant dernier jour où la fuite semblait moins importante mais quoiqu’il en soit aucune communication à ce sujet. Néanmoins le personnel est très gentil.
En conclusion : très bon hôtel bien placé dans un cadre magnifique qui vaut le coup en rapport qualité prix.
