The Black Fox was a great spot conveniently located near all of the attractions that Bath had to offer in walking distance. There was also an amazing bar restaurant in the lobby that made meals so easy. Loved it.

This is a pub, so reception is at the bar, we were able to drop our bags early and felt they were safe. On our return check in was quick, we received our key and instructions to find our room. We had paid for a 'King Room', it was on the 3rd floor, luckily we only had a small case. There was work being done so we looked out on scaffolding. The room was small, quirky and had a sloping floor which meant the bed also sloped and small, but everything was clean, the bathroom was good, lots of hot water. The main problem was a lot of noise outside all night, as the pub is on a corner of the main walkway between the restaurants/attractions and the bus and train station. It did not stop until about 3am. Breakfast was excellent

The hotel is in an excellent central location, just a short walk from some of the main sights you would want to see in the city. Getting around was very easy. The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming and genuinely lovely throughout my stay. I stayed on my own with my dog and we were given a very sweet room with a city view. The room was small but perfectly sufficient and comfortable for us. Breakfast was very good, with items selected from a menu and served quickly. The service was efficient and friendly, and the dishes were fresh and tasty. Overall, I was very happy with my stay and would happily choose this hotel again on my next visit.

Great breakfast! Our room was on the 4th floor with no lift. I’m 69 and struggled to get our bags to the room. Floor slanted at least 10 degrees. No hot water in the shower😳. Staff very nice - carried my bags down on departure and called cab to pick us up! Location outstanding - near train station and all attractions.

Good pub with rooms. Location was excellent. We had an attic room which meant the bathroom in particular had limited space for a wash basin and decent shower. It is a very old building and needs a freshening up. However it was perfectly OK

We stayed in the hotel during the heat wave, so without the AC the room was quite warm, however manageable. Please mind the old style stairs in the building, may be challenging with heavy luggage. Otherwise the place was excellent for us. The breakfast is the best!

Such a cute building in the heart of Bath, a quick walk to so many attractions such as the Roman Bath itself, coach station, and parks. Breakfast was so delicious and the staff were the friendliest people. The room itself was very cute and simple with an updated bathroom but it had little airflow and after 50 steps to the top floor in the middle of summer, it became very stuffy. The fan that was included in the room helped but our shower only seemed to give out hot water and was very confusing to use. I would absolutely love to stay again, probably not during the warmer months or at least try for a room on one of the other floors, but I did enjoy the stay here.
And again, the food was SO GOOD!

Average hotel.

The room was clean and tidy. Being an attic conversion the ceilings sloped but this was not a major issue. Also being 200 years old the floors were uneven. Third floor is not really suitable for older guests with knee or hip problems. There is no lift. Breakfast was average, the bacon was overcooked and dry, the mushrooms also over cooked and the tomatoes burnt.

Stayed here for 2 nights. The whole room had a lean, so everything tilted to the right. The window rattled all night so hubby had to put tissues in between sill and window to stop rattling. Staff were friendly enough. Didn’t try the breakfast as it started at 8 and was booked on early tours both mornings. Had I had known this I wouldnt have booked this room. I’ve never heard of breakfast starting at 8am anywhere, ever! If you want a basic room with a tiny shower that you cannot move in and miss out on breakfast supplied by hotel at a ridiculous time go ahead and book this hotel. I would not book this hotel again.

This is above a pub that provides breakfast the next morning. The location of this hotel is great and easy to get to. Can walk the town in the evening easily and safely. The room was very big with a sitting area and big clean bathroom. You can hear lots of noise from the street even 2 floors up. And lots of stairs to go up but would stay again for sure!

The Black Fox was one of my favorites. Spacious room, clean, good mattress and pillows, big bathroom, and great location right next to the Roman Baths. Short walk to the train station. Good breakfast included. Had fish and chips one night and it was very good as well.

The bath tub was amazing, I took the longest bath ever. Bed was comfortable and they had water/tea/coffee and a kettle. Room was larger then I expected. There were real plants in the bathroom and they put little touches around the room to make it unique. I enjoyed my stay.
It can be a bit noisy till 1 am from people down on the street however that is not the hotels fault. Our included breakfast was fantastic. I got the yogurt with granola and fruit with morning tea., my MIL got the bacon sandwich and coffee. We both enjoyed our breakfast. Loved the atmosphere and vibe of the place. Couldnt ask for a better location if you want to see the Roman baths ect.
You do have to climb stairs to get to your room so be advised it is not handicap accessible. Overall I would definitely stay here again!

Dinner at the pub was only ok we got the fish and Chips.

We booked a couple of nights as we were going to Bath Venue two nights running! Great location, wonderful staff and lovely food. Breakfast was plentiful and freshly prepared. Had one evening meal there which was lovely, no complaints.
It is situated in a busy are so noisy during the night but cant hold that against them.
Will certainly book again!

This place was fantastic, even though we had a minor issue checking in the girl working the bar was extremely friendly and helpful and everything was sorted out very quickly. When you walk in you walk into this cute and very amazing looking bar the drinks there were very good, they have a kitchen too but I never got the chance to try their food.

The room also was amazing had lots of character and was perfect for me and my partner. The bathroom is very clean and the beds are comfortable.

It's also in the perfect area super convenient and everything important is within walking distance and you're right around the corner from the Roman baths and right by a little city square that has lots of options for food.

This place was perfect and we will be back. I highly recommend.

Nice hotel , nice staff but didn't work for me.

Really nice place and i would recommend but i had a couple of issues, nothing serious though.

Firstly, it was a little noisy from traffic and people into the early hours, to be expected i suppose in a city centre hotel.

Secondly, although breakfast was included in my booking, unfortunately it wasn't served until 8am, this is ok for tourists but as i start lecturing at 8.30, i was unable to take advantage of the breakfast.

Please understand the Black Fox is good, it just didn't work for me.

Overall a good stay, the rooms are dated and there were large damp patches on the walls but the beds were comfortable and the bathroom is nicely done.

We stayed for one night in October. Right in town literally around the corner to the spa and historic roman bath ( two separate venues). A good pub with rooms above. I read the previous reviews and having no problem with access by stairs only to a quiet room booked a night. The problem is that the previous ' quiet room' review was wrong! Buses pass outside the bedroom windows all through the night, as do revellers and early/ late workers. Be forewarned: ear plugs are very much recommended. I would have had an easy night if I hadn't left my fitted ear plugs ( essential travellors equipment in my opinion) at an earlier stay! Very much worth the money otherwise.

The room was spotless but unfortunately it was very warm in there and the window wouldn’t stay open . There is a fan provided which I would imagine in the summer you would definitely need.
We also found that you could hear all the noise outside and it didn’t quieten down till around 3am but maybe this was because it was freshers week ?
We also didn’t like having to use a side entrance outside to get to our room and then again to go back to the pub .

A major problem for us was the lack of a lift as my husband struggled with the stairs to the second floor. If you are young and fit though this would not be an issue

Love the room! Clean and spacious. The reason I gave only 4 stars is the steps you have to climb to get to your room. In our case, we were given a room on the 4th (or was it 3rd) floor and it's a good thing we were only carrying an overnight bag and not a 50 lbs luggage.

Best part is the location, super close to the town center! Breakfasts were excellent. Everyone was friendly and helpful. My room was on the top floor. Old building, so the winding staircase and slanting floors were not a surprise. Didn’t like the odor in the room, and could not open the window or ventilate any other way. Poor water pressure, sometimes cold water not available. Nicely updated bathroom, comfy bed, well decorated, but carpet was shabby and should be replaced.

This property, a freehouse since the 18th century, is exactly what I expected. Close to all Bath city sights, rooms are efficient and have everything you need. The property has had recent painting to lighten and brighten the spaces and they are inviting in a relaxed manner you would expect of a freehouse, that is the charm of the place. There is a bit of street noise but nothing not expected from city living. I throughly enjoyed my stay.

It was a really nice walkable distance to a lot of the different parts of Bath - the museum and thermae spa and food options. It was a little cold and noisy though but I knew that ahead of time from other reviews and brought a jacket and ear plugs. The breakfast was a nice touch to the stay. I would definitely return in the future.

We had a great stay, coupled with delicious breakfast. The bed was extremely comfortable and the location is in a prime location, close to anything and everything. Be aware of no lift if you have a higher level room and parking is not available on-site, but very reasonable (£17 for the night). Would highly recommend this great stay.

Great pub. Behaigul breakfast. Very friendly staff. Some confusion over breakfast times as sheets in room say until 11 but staff say breakfast is until 10am. Rooms are in very good condition and clean but not built for those over 6ft (be aware). Also take earplugs if you are a light sleeper as you can hear the road and other guests.

A great find, right in the city centre. We had the spacious room with the bath. All perfect; comfy, clean, warm. Everything we needed. Used the toiletry products - just would have appreciated a conditioner to go with the shampoo, a minor thing.
Breakfast was great too, perfect poached eggs.
Being city centre, there is no on-site parking - but very near to car parks and train/bus stations. A great service to store our luggage before and after our stay. Thank you!

No disabled access, and we had 2 flights of stairs, and no help was offered to help us upstairs. Lovely old building, so very rickety and on a bit of a slope. Room very basic, but ok. Shower very small access, but actual shower was ok. Very old sash windows, and they rattled all night, so we didnt sleep well at all. Breakfast choice ok, but sticky a parsley leave on top of a gray narly poached egg doesnt make it delicious. Good service by pleasant lady. As I've said, the staff were nice, polite and helpful, but it just wasnt for us.

A very nice clean property in an easy distance from the train station and park and ride drop off. Very close to the Christmas market and Bath shops and sights. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. A good breakfast included in the price. Only slight negatives, we found the bathroom cold (it had no heating and the weather was particularly cold), and my daughter was woken up by traffic going past on the nearby road, said she would need to remember her ear plugs another time.
