Built of golden Bath stone in 1874 by the architect J. Elkinton Gill, the award-winning Ayrlington is a handsome, listed Victorian house with exceptional views of the city and its medieval abbey.

Bath's magnificent historic sites, specialty shops, and excellent restaurants are all just a 5–10-minute level stroll away. The Ayrlington received a Silver-Gilt certificate at the 2014 Bath in Bloom awards.

The elegant and tranquil interior is a graceful blend of English and Italian artwork, fine fabrics, and Egyptian cotton bed linens. All nineteen bedrooms have individual themes and are beautifully furnished; some have four-poster beds.

The Ayrlington also offers a residents' bar and secure private parking at an additional £10. 00 per day.

The hotel is entirely nonsmoking and does not accept children under five years of age.

The room was incredibly clean and well stocked with toiletries, tea and coffee, and we were also provided with a hairdryer, iron, and ironing board.
Our room had a lovely view of the pitch behind the hotel and the gardens.
Extremely comfortable stay in a convenient location (10 minute walk from the shops).
Staff were lovely and incredibly accommodating.
I’d recommend staying here any time you’re in Bath.

My one night stay at the Ayrlington was good. There were good elements, like the comfy bed and super shower & bathroom, and there were a few elements that were more disappointing . Navigating the stairs with two bags was a challenge, and lighting in the bedroom was not good. Breakfast was beautifully cooked with great views over the garden. A shame then that it was served all in a hurry, and the awkward silence of the breakfast room does not make for a comfortable breakfast experience..

There is a £10 ‘daily’ charge to use their car park but no matter what time you arrive you have to move your car by 12pm. The room was very old and run down. It was very clean and staff were very nice. Bed was really comfortable. Sadly no lift so where I had a big suitcase I had to carry this all the way to the top. It’s fine for a one night stay but nothing special for the price

The grand suite is absolutely beautiful. It was a shame we didn't have the time or weather to enjoy the beautiful garden! We also might have been up earlier, had we not been woken by what we assumed to be the breakfast service being set up before 6am. That was a great shame. I think another review noted that the french doors to the garden need some TLC. But otherwise the room is wonderful! I wish we could have stayed longer than one night. I was not expecting a TV opposite the bath, which was a wonderful surprise and I would have liked to make use of this, had we stayed longer. We couldn't get the fireplace to work, which was a shame, but it was only the start of September, so perhaps it is only on for certain seasons. Staff were very friendly and helpful when we arrived. There does seem to be parking, but I'm glad we took public transport, as he car park looked a little squashed. It is so well situated that we didn't mind the short walk to and from the centre.

The parking could be a problem. There was a limited area for parking and entering or leaving the parking was problematic at times. It took us almost 20 minutes to maneuver out of our spot on the departure day.


It was a minor inconvenience and overall the stay was very good.

We had a lovely 3 night stay. Our twin room was on the top level with four flights of stairs. It was ok once we got used to them, but was a little hard with luggage. But the views were great over towards Bath city. The location was great and was an easy walk into the main city area which we managed each day. Breakfast was a lovely start to each day.

The service at the Ayrlington was wonderful, the receptionists were super helpful and seemed genuinely happy to help. The room was large and the communal areas are well kept. We also particularly liked our bathroom.

I would say however that the hotel is not the usual 5*. This rating appears to be several years old. We were disappointed with a couple of decorative things, like bleach stains on the accent chairs and paint missing from the dressing table. We’d also recommend replacing the pillows, as they are incredibly flat.

All that said, this was still a comfortable stay and very good value for money in beautiful Bath.

Every thing about the hotel was okay except for the room and especially the bathroom. Unable to open the window in there as a notice on it said “Do not open, awaiting repair” but looking at the state of it it been awaiting some time. Also the sink plug did not hold any water and the tap was faulty to the point it was dangerousand even though we reported it nothing was done about it. Considering the price we paid it was not good value, but I guess that’s the Bath effect.

Pretty place that's a short, pleasant walk from the center of Bath. Large room and bathroom, big windows with nice gardens and view, although a little less 4 star than expected. Rooms could use some painting and upgrading; they are a little faded right now. Felt a little pricey for what it was.

Room at front very noisy with traffic. At back would probably be ok.

Few things that I felt didn’t live up to its 5* for example curtain hanging off rail, shower hose leaking too badly to use (rain did work), taps wrong way round (hot=cold etc) Minor points.

Really didn’t like being automatically charged on my card for breakfast before we had even left our room to go to breakfast room!! Should be charged after breakfast IMO as normal after any dining experience. I didn’t give permission to charge my card before an event! Improper use of my card

Comfortable and conveniently located hotel

We booked the Grand Suite which was beautiful and comfortable with our own access to a private garden. Bianca at the reception was most courteous, helpful and friendly - she even helped us carry our luggage from the car. The hotel is in a great location with walking distance to the city center. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciate Bianca’s hospitality. Will definitely recommend to friends visiting Bath.

The hostess at the hotel was very friendly and helpful and the room was spacious and clean. I did, however, book the room because it was meant to have a bath and it did not have one. Parking was a good price for bath city centre but the cleaner had blocked me in and seemed annoyed that she had to move her car for me to get out and leave.

Wonderful stay at the Ayrlington. Comfort and convenience in a place where you feel like you, as a guest, matter to them. From the friendly welcome, being shown to our room to the lovely little touches like the personalised welcome note. Everything you could possibly need for a relaxing stay is provided in the beautifully adorned and wonderfully scented rooms. The bed linen, the towels and robes were all fresh and of a high quality. The bed and pillows were also very good and we enjoyed a restful night's sleep. The heat was self controlled and a fan was also provided for warmer months. Easy parking is also available if needed at a good price of £10 per night. We are very happy to have found this beautiful place to stay and it will definitely be our first choice when we next visit the fabulous city of Bath.

The staff in reception and the restaurant are all excellent. Parking was good because we arrived at the 2pm check in time.
The 2 walking routes into the centre of Bath are easy and take only 10-15 minutes.
We had breakfast on 2 days and were delighted with the quality of the cooked meals.

What a delightful hotel! The front desk people were lovely and helpful. I was pleased with its location, the size of my double twin room was terrific. There were a few inconveniences - it was incredibly hot because I was on the top floor, so all the heat rose; and the floors creak awfully, which must be difficult for the people below me. But the room was well-appointed, the amenities excellent, and although I didn't eat in the breakfast room, it was being repainted when I arrived and it was beautiful. I would definitely recommend it.

Lovely B&B, great location about a 10 minute walk into the centre of Bath. We had to Orchid room which was in the basement so quite dark but big room, pretty clean. The first night we had an awful sleep because the bed was so creaky!! I pulled it away from the wall on the second night and it was slightly improved. Staff seemed friendly although we didn’t have much interaction with them apart from checking in/checking out. I would return despite a few little niggles

From the outside, looks a little tired, but once you are in the rooms are large, clean, and well-equipped. The staff were friendly and thoughtful. Little touches, like a handwritten personal card in the room, make you feel welcome.

My only extra two wishes would be for a little more illumination near the window for the evening (a reading lamp, for instance) and there were effectively two dressing tables but not a proper desk and chair - which makes it quite hard to do any work.

The location is excellent, and I shall definitely try to stay again when I next visit Bath.

Stunning and Charming , You must visit !

Just Wow ! We were in \"The Range\" Premier King Room. It was magnificent , The unique Range feature was amazing making the room unforgettable , with a huge stunning comfortable bed and beautiful furniture it felt more like being in a country manor. Very large double shower and the longest and deepest bath I have used, came with really nice toiletries, soft towels and bath robes. Considering the hotel is on a busy road the thick wooden shutters cut out all the noise. Breakfast was lovely , overlooking a pretty walled garden . Apologies for not remembering names but the lady we met on arrival was lovely , so welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble and we felt like we were being greated by a friend. Also the young lady that took over in the evening was lovely and bar prices were very reasonable. Breakfast waitress was very attentive. There is parking in front of the hotel and on road parking right outside if the car park is full , you just have to give your car registration which they pass on for the permit. We were visiting The Bath Forum and it was only a 10 minute walk. Considering this Hotel is in Bath and the standard of everything it is great value for money. We will be back to try the other rooms.

Not what I was hoping for! It is rated as a 5-star hotel, which is ridiculous. But now I notice it calls itself a Guest House, which explains why there is no restaurant for either lunch or dinner.
The parking arrangements were terrible, almost laughable, AND they charged me for it!

Our stay with the Ayrlington was good. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly, and the location was perfect - meaning we didnt have to drive anywhere.
There were a few issues with the room (named Bamboo) that I felt were not indicative of a 5-star hotel. Things like:
1. Plug socket next to bed faulty so I was unable to plug something in.
2. Misaligned wallpaper
3. Missing bulbs in light fittings
4. Mix of warm and cool white lights in chandelier
5. Cracked toilet seat
6. Shower going cold half-way through

Other than that, the bed was really comfortable, the breakfast was good, and the service was great. We would stay again, just maybe not the same room.

Unprofessional and overall bad experience.

I sent this email to the manager of the hotel and nobody even bothered to acknowledge it so I am posting it it on here. This goes to show you how unbothered and unprofessional they are for a 5 star hotel.

I hope this email finds you well. I recently stayed at your hotel on Thursday 13th December and wanted to provide feedback on my experience, as it did not meet the expectations I had for a 5-star establishment.

My wife and I had traveled for three hours from London to celebrate my wife’s birthday and were looking forward to a comfortable and restful stay. While I appreciated the thoughtful gesture of the card and balloons in the room, unfortunately, the overall experience left us with a sour taste.

Upon arrival at 9:30 pm, I discovered there was no available parking. While the receptionist kindly directed me to an awkward space in the car park that wasn’t a proper bay, I was still charged £10 for parking. Considering this was not a designated space and the late hour of our arrival, I found the charge disappointing. I understand that policies are in place, but surely an exception could have been made given that we checked in so late and checked out at 8:30 am the next morning.

Upon entering the room, I was disheartened to notice several issues. There was an infestation of ladybirds on the ceiling, the throw on the bed had a large white stain and the curtains were torn. While I understand that occasional issues can arise, these problems were far below the standard expecte

This hotel has beautiful decor and a cosy feel. We really enjoyed our stay. Bar is an added bonus, and the prices are not hiked.

The hotel has potential to be really lovely. Some areas are a little tired looking. Parking is tricky if you don’t arrive early. Tv doesn’t have a good signal so cuts out alot. No Xmas decorations up like all the other hotels sadly.
