There was a problem with the room. But they did move us. I don't think Pets should be allowed in a hotel like this, we were moved as the room next door had a barking dog.
Otherwise, beautiful grounds and rooms. Staff at breakfast very welcoming, good quality food. Spa was clean. And a good stay

Beautiful hotel with lovely grounds and an excellent spa area. The room was comfortable and fortunately the weather wasn't too warm, as the air conditioning wasn't working during our stay. There was also a persistent clicking noise from the air vent system near the room entrance, which was quite annoying, especially at night. Aside from those issues, we had a very pleasant stay and found the hotel to be well maintained and relaxing.

Absolutely great hotel. Highly recommend. Lovely gardens and peaceful setting. Close to town - a nice 15-20 min walk through the park straight into the centre of town. Room was big, clean and beds really comfy with soft feather pillows. Dog friendly too!
The spa area was excellent. Steam tools, saunas and an ice room. The best part was the outdoor thermal pool. Definitely would return.

A lovely hotel in a beautiful setting, the spa and pools were great to use after sightseeing. Bath town is only about a 15/20 minute walk with lots to see. If we come back to Bath we would definitely stay here again.
We only had one bar meal whilst staying but that was very nice too .

Initially some issues with the room where we raised it with the front desk and was moved promptly to another one. Spa and Pool in need of renovation, the outdoor is also in need of some love.

Bar staff extremely slow outside, to the point it was quicker to go inside and order rather than waiting. Really good location, and the hotel could do so much better with some a bit more care and attention to the property and service. Will be back and hopefully it'll be improved!

It was a girls trip and our first time staying at MacDonald Spa in Bath. It was a beautiful historical building, but unfortunately had things that were broken down. All that said, my friend and I went to the front desk and they immediately moved us to a different room, also providing some chocolates and prosecco. I believe we heard the hotel will be undergoing some renovations.

Loved every moment and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Beautiful setting within the grounds, and well maintained hotel.
The staff were extremely helpful, polite and professional.
I needed a few more Vegetarian options...not Vegan...on the menu, however, I was able to find something.
Nevertheless, I would go back to this lovely hotel, with a short drive into the City Centre.

Couple of small points that let the 5 star feel down - staff were incredible and lovely to interact with. Spa was nice - but few things broken over the 3 days was there.

Car parking was just about ok with a full hotel.

but overall - really nice stay - great place and location - would return if good offers to be had.

Grand building, but seems slightly dated and tired. The room was clean enough but had outdated furniture, TV etc.

The WiFi was too slow and unstable to be usable, which coupled with the lack of phone signal was quite annoying.

Breakfast was chaotic and not up to the standard we would've expected. Lots of guests waited for a long time for coffees, teas etc which didn't arrive. Most of the buffet was empty at middle of service.

The spa was quite nice and had a decent pool and sauna.

Overall not 5* quality.

We arrived and got put in a small room where the windows wouldn’t open and the camp bed for our daughter was broken, but after a disappointing start we were moved into a much nicer room with the staff being very lovely about it. The rest of the stay was wonderful, it’s a short stroll into Bath Centre, the spa whilst very busy and cramped at times was nicer when it was quieter, the breakfast room was quite special although the fruit selection could have been a bit broader the hot breakfast was delicious. The grounds are peaceful and beautiful, all in all we had a very nice stay and would definitely stay again.

Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The room (courtyard suite) was tired- chairs needed cleaning and foam in seats replacing, the wooden furniture was chipped. The spa was not good, staff were on phones and chatting at the reception area, meanwhile the changing rooms were full.if discarded slippers and towels and leaves from outside. The pool and decking area was also not kept clean and didn't look cared for (paper cups, weeds (nettles) and empty bin bags. There was a member of staff sweeping at the time we were in the pool but he wasn't doing it particularly thoroughly and swept around piles of seeds and leaves from the trees. The spa terrace and changing rooms were too small for the number of people using them so it didn't feel very relaxing. The hotel terrace was a nice, calm place to sit, as was the lounge and the staff were very friendly. The breakfast was disappointing. Continental was 20 and there was very limited choice of pastries, meats, cheese and bread. The cooked was £26 and didn't feel like much more than I would get at a premier inn breakfast, bacon was pale, packet hashbrown and watery scrambled egg.fab location for bath city centre and front gardens were relaxing and well maintained. Not good value for money and disappointing for a 5 star hotel.

Lovely hotel, Some staff very welcoming - the bar man and the waiter at breakfast went above and beyond. The room however was very warm and we could not get the air conditioning to work - even with the window open it was unbearable. The bathroom sink was a bit limescaley for my liking in what is classed as a high quality hotel.

Property is a little tired and could do with some decorating. Careful when purchasing drinks from the bar as some bar staff will charge for service ( I’d understand more if they bought the drink to me in the lounge), only noticed when the same round of drinks were different prices. It’s a nice place in a good location, taxi into Bath is around £10. Staff are friendly enough.

The room was not clean when we entered. There were dead bugs in the tub and some unknown substance near the sink.

The white towels had brown / red stains. We asked for a change of the towels and those also had brown / red stains.

Hotel is pretty old - paint is flaking off everywhere.

No slippers in the room (had to ask for it). No tooth brush / tooth paste.

Calls to conceirge were not answered.

In terms of staff, I expected them to move my bags into my room given I'd dropped off my bags with them prior to my check in and then went outside for lunch / to explore the city.

Spa wise - pretty well equipped with 2 saunas, 1 steam room, 1 salt room and 1 ice room.

Gorgeous building, room and well maintained gardens, however for a 5* hotel the service was poor, the staff seemed less than enthusiastic towards guests and there was no feeling of warmth or welcome from them. Possibly because they where so few in number. The hotel seriously lacks enough staff to provide much of a service. They hardly provide you with any extras in the room with only 2 coffee pods provided each day with nothing other than coffee top ups provided beyond the first day. The spa area was fantastic, 10 years ago but now its very worn and showing its age.I couldnt believe that for this level of hotel how dirty and unclean it was. Brown tide marks around the pool, black mould on the shower heads in the thermal area and the ice room smelt mouldy and was covered in black mould especially around the tube where the ice came out, the shower head and the cubicle. All the fancy showers in the thermal area didnt work as they should or didnt work at all. Most of the thermal pool jets didnt work apart from the odd few, tiles were missing, dirty windows and unclean floors. This hotel whilst lovely needs to seriously look at the service it is providing especially to guests who stay beyond a couple of days and invest maintenance and a deep clean of its spa area. Sadly this was far from a five star experience.

Tired hotel in need of some TLC. Tired room, no net curtain so everyone walking past could see straight in ... Bathroom extremely tired and dated. Not many staff but those that were around were helpful. Breakfast not worth the cost... Under 15 mins walk to town. The location, free parking and spa are good .. although spa again is tired. Impossible to get treatment so book this ahead if you can.

Definately NOT a 5 star hotel. Rooms in massive need of updating, and the spa also. The Spa when we went was very messy, paper cups and peoples slippers/robes on floor scattered about. Looks like in need to some TLC. Visited Bath many a time and far nicer places to stay in my opinion, especially for the price. Building is beautiful, breakfast was as expected, check in fine, staff lovely, location ok 10 min walk into centre - just desperately needs some updating.

Took 4 attempts to get non feather pillows then breakfast the next morning took 25 minutes to get pot of tea and was even asked after 20 minutes what coffee had we wanted. I had to go and ask staff after 10 minutes of sitting at the table to order our breakfast which then took another 10 minutes for someone to take our order. Then breakfast came out after 1/2 hour but was missing items. Then when checking out reception staff person was extremely rude when my wife put card in the glass bowl which was whipped out and we were told that was the apple bowl. Bathroom in room was very worn and tired. While the location was great and room spacious and comfortable beds we felt that the very poor service let the whole break away down especially with the cost of the 2 night stay was over priced and disproportionate for the quality of the hotel.
Will definitely not be staying again after such a disappointing stay.

We visit annually McDonalds Spa in Bath for a 3-4 day stay for the past 5 years and has always been amazing. This time was very different, my daughter went for a shower at 10 pm but there was no hot water, no phone in the room, so used mobile to call reception, tried 3 times no answer. Hot water was fixed next day. Both twin beds needed to be remade due to the insert being only a single in a double cover and was all on one side that was tucked under the bed, again tried to call reception no answer. Housekeeping was lacking due bed issue and non replacement of tea & sugar and not taking away dirty dishes of general wiping done of areas. There seemed less staff and spa staff are contracted rather than employed by the hotel. Spa experience was no as special as usual. My daughter had reaction on her skin after advising that she has sensitive skin, but uses the Rose Elemis products these were not used.

I was able to stay here for 2 nights. Situated near the heart of Bath, the buildings and grounds strike quite the majestic impression. Parking is relatively close to the reception area which provided a grand entrance. I was politely checked in to a decent sized room which was well decorated and included a fridge. The bathroom was especially impressive with a very good shower and bath. I also took advantage of the gym set up. It was well equipped with enough cardio machines as well as work stations, cables, benches and a good dumbell rack enough to allow for a comprehensive resistance training workout. The king sized bed allowed for a tremendous and well-needed sleep. The only blot on this accommodation landscape was the breakfast experience. The first morning was especially disappointing. I went for the full cooked breakfast. The ingredients did not seem of a good quality with some items overcooked and the bread quite stale. The worst was the apple juice which was diluted beyond recognition. The second morning I played it safe with a sandwich with natural yoghurt fruit and orange juice which was a lot better. If the breakfast was worked on then I would be quite confident in giving it a full 5 star rating.

The level of cleanliness was unfortunately really poor. The toilets (in room and in the communal areas) had not been cleaned properly, there was mould in the bathroom and hair on the bedroom floor. The ‘spa facilities’ are also not well maintained. Disappointing for what the hotel is marketing.

Got to reception at 3:15pm was told can’t check in until 3:30pm. Sat down and at 3:25pm there was a touch of queueing people who had obviously all been told the same thing. Waited 20mins in the queue to finally check in.

We booked this hotel for the spa experience. The outdoor heated pool and one of the sauna were both out of order. All the other facilities in the spa were extremely busy because everyone checked in at the same time. Spent 20mons in the spa before giving up.

An amazing hotel from start to finish. The staff cant be more friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and fresh looking with robes and slippers provided. A bottle of water is also provided on arrival alongside biscuits, teas and coffees. Lovely cooked breakfast in the morning.

Bath main town is a short walk away (15 / 20 mins) but be aware that there is a steep hill returning back to the hotel if walking that might be a challege for those less mobile.

Would highly recommend a stay here.

Expected more from a 5* hotel. Sofa bed wasn't made so we had to ring reception for spare pillows and duvet. It was quickly sorted but we felt like our son wasn't accounted for. The spare bed was very uncomfortable and you could feel every spring underneath. Aircon wasn't working so we weren't able to adjust the temperature, our bedroom was freezing in the morning!

Such a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location for visiting Bath. A hotel of that size and age is bound to have areas that look tired, but best not to dwell on them and enjoy an amazing building, attractive gardens and a spa with a good choice of saunas, an outdoor jacuzzi and a nice pool. We had a very tasty cream tea which was located in the restaurant due to a wedding, so a bit soulless as a venue and quite expensive - but scones were excellent! Bedroom was in the old part of the hotel with some lovely period features. Bathroom needs a refresh but the Elemis soaps were gorgeous.

I recently enjoyed a fantastic weekend at the Macdonald Bath Spa. The hotel’s elegant atmosphere, combined with impeccable service, made for a delightful stay. My room was spacious, clean, and had a lovely garden view. The spa facilities were outstanding, offering a rejuvenating full-body massage and relaxing pools. Dining was equally impressive with delicious, locally-sourced dishes. Its prime location made exploring Bath convenient. Overall, it was a luxurious escape, and I look forward to returning!

We were so excited about our stay considering how much it cist for 2 nights. Only to be disapointed with the the upkeep of the rooms and spa.
Our rooms were tired. Tried to close the window and caught my finger on the rotting frame. Had to move the cot out the way first, my child was 10 years old so no idea why we had a cot.
The other room we had the bath the enamel was chipped and sharp, had to take extra care when having a shower. The toilet did not flush properly and rattled when filling back up.
The paintwork was chipped and looked awful.
Food on first night made me ill.
There were losts of tiles missing in the spa. Take care when sitting in steam room.
To top it all when getting my car on leaving it was completley covered in poo.
So very disapointed in whole stay

Not overly impressed with this trip to the Bath Spa Hotel. The room we were given had a compressor for the ice machines outside the window. It was extremely noisy and we asked to change rooms. At the first time of asking we were refused being told the noise would stop at 2100. After 2100 it was still noisy so at 2300 we were changing rooms. Breakfast was not worth £16. Buffet was underwhelming and anything other than full English was charged as extra. Anna in the Spa was absolutely lovely. And the Spa area was very nice. We negotiated a late checkout as compensation but the desk staff initially was not particularly friendly. I haven’t stayed here for some as I didn’t appreciate having to pay to park. I see the parking is now included but I probably won’t come back for a while. Air bnb tends to be better value.
