Great location, walking distance to everything you would want to see/do, the room was much better than I expected, clean and cozy and warm. But overall the staff are what made it exceptional with great recommendations and awesome attitudes!

Friendly and helpful staff. Room was okay although tired. For example, some of the kitchen and bathroom cabinet frames were cracked. Tv worked only with apps. The entranceway was poorly lighted and precarious and icy. If you are budget oriented, the location is great. Lots of this place is great, but think of this as a budget option.

If staying here you would be advised to only use it as a place to sleep and not much else. Walkable down to the main areas of Tromso in 5/10 mins maximum. Having a fridge in the room was handy however, as we were staying for 3 days

I'll be honest about the good and the bad.

The good: nice staff, location, comfortable bed, netflix.

The bad: this hotel was cheaper in comparison to other hotels in Tromso, but by no means inexpensive. We still paid alot of money and the room we got was tiny, stuffy and claustrophobic, when I say tiny, I mean tiny, felt like we were in a closet. The bathroom was smaller than anything I've ever experienced, no counterspace and the tiny bowl sink was hard to use, water got everywhere when trying to wash my face. The shower consisted of two fold out doors in the corner of the tiny bathroom, there was barely space to move and take a normal shower, and water got all over the rest of the floor. You get what you pay for and in this case we realize we should have just paid a little bit more and stayed in a different property.

The room was basic, a tiny bit small for two people with two suitcases, but the beds were really comfortable, and we found the people who worked at the Viking very nice and helpful which made our stay a really pleasant one. Good value for money, and we would stay there again.

My daughter and I loved the charm and character of our room in the top floor under the eaves. The shower room was perfect and it was lovely to look out on the traditional property opposite as well as to glimpse the hills around us. The staff were amazing - friendly, cheerful, helpful at all times. I really appreciated being able to have the free coffee/cookies in the reception area at any time with the opportunity to chat to other guests there, hearing about their experiences/plans and also the brown cheese/waffles in the afternoon. This hotel was ideal for us and I would certainly return.

As a solo traveler I found the hotel was in an excellent location. The main town was a 10 minute walk away, also the meeting place for most tours was again only a 10 minute walk.
The room was spacious although there is limited space to put your belongings.
The bathroom was plenty big enough with a walk in shower.
The hotel offered unlimited tea and coffee although the water in the flasks was not always the hottest.
Between 5 and 7 there was free waffles available which were made fresh with a waffle machine.
I would recommend this hotel and if I returned to Tromso I would use this hotel again.

Good value for money, the rooms are nice enough but lack basic amenities such as kettle, coffee, tea, bar area, bathroom shaving plug. The fridge in the room is available to use but doesn't actually cool things down. Wi-Fi is free but really bad, barely usable. There is coffee and tea available in the reception, and breakfast only available if you request it. Staff doesn't inform you about any of this. The rooms are in general badly soundproof, with a lot of noise from the street and neighbouring rooms coming through

The bed was comfortable and the service at reception was great, but the air vents are all linked and cigarette smoke filled my room every morning at 7 am. As the smell of cigarette smoke actually makes me Want to throw up, it wasn’t the best start to each day.

This hotel is close to the centre of town. The bathroom was very small with no where to put anything. The shower folded in and out over the bathroom floor. The bathroom was in poor condition- towel rail broken, glass shelf was no longer there. No where to plug the hair dryer in front of a mirror.

This is a reasonably priced hotel which is well presented and clean, it also provides free tea/coffee and waffles for you to make after 6pm. Its in the centre of the city, in a quiet location. Reception staff are helpful and my family had a pleasant stay.

We were moved to another hotel within the same family. Instead of staying at the Viking Hotel which we booked, we were required to stay at the City Hotel, which is not as updated and clean. We paid for a family room of four twins but received a room with two doubles, leaving one of our teenage sons to sleep on the floor. Absolutely wouldn't book with this family of hotels again for fear of an unrequested move.

Close to city centre. Friendly and helpful staff. Remembering this is a budget hotel but the hotel could do with being updated. The corridors are looking tired and a bit dated, whereas the photos on the site don’t suggest this.

Sadly when we arrived in our room there were used tissues left on the widow ledge. That said, the room appeared to be suitably cleaned throughout our 3 night stay.

Great place for the basic needs

Whatever the purpose with the trip is, this hotel is a great pick. The location is central with walking distance to most venues of interest. The rooms have the right size unless you are going to host a group for a meeting. The staff is friendly and helpful. And as a waffle and coffee addict, my needs are taken care of in the reception area. The only disadvantage is that they don't serve breakfast, but that is not a problem when a solution is around the corner.

Real fast is mot available but there are several supermarket/convenience stores close by. Tea dna coffee freely available 24/7 and waffles between 6 and 8 pm.
Close to centre, harbour and churches. Easy to get to and from.
Taxi from airport ranges. Between 170 and 250kr for some reason. (Not heavy traffic in either direction, same route..)

Great landing place for coming into Oslo - right outside the central station on the main shopping avenue, with many restaurants and sights within easy walking distance. For anything further out, the train, bus, and light rail are all right there. Easy walking distance to Akerhus and the harbor, where the ferries are.

There was no hot water in the morning. The sink was blocked in the evening; the young guy at the front desk had no clue; my husband had to fix it to allow the family to brush the teeth. I do not recommend this hotel which is, by the way, very expensive, even for Norway.

Came here mainly for northern lights. Actually saw best one on walk up to lake from hotel. Partially cloudy. Klaus on night shift was very friendly and helpful in trying to get us to find the lights (with rental car). We came back at 2 or 3 in morning our last night & he had waffles out for us! He's so cool.
They have nice breakfast buffet.

4 Days In Tromso

Just back from 4 days in Tromso, we stayed at the Viking hotel which is a nice clean & simple hotel. The staff were all great, helping us with any inquiry and offering good advice. The hotel serves tea & coffee all day and night, we got in from our aura hunt at 1am and hot drinks were offered. Do make time for the waffles, served each day from 5pm.
The hotel is well placed near the Mack brewery & Polaria and is only 10 to 15 minute walk to the other end of town.

Comfortable Hotel close to all the amenities

We stayed at this hotel mid December,very friendly helpful staff,who made our stay very enjoyable advising us on, and recommending trips to go on .The room was comfortable and cosy and the hot drinks in the reception area were great after a day out in the snow.
If we go back we will certainly use The Viking Hotel again
