Definitely didn't feel safe there were only two cars in parking lot and nobody at front desk .We needed to go next store to their sister building to check in and check out. Room had old musty rugs and no air conditioner just a ceiling fan. The only good thing was their location close to Herst Castle.

This place is completely run down. The beds are the only thing that appear to be newer. Filthy carpet, chipped dirty tile and windows that are so fogged up you can't see out them. You have to check in at the neighboring hotel because they do not staff this one, The only plus is you can use the pools at the neighbor hotel.

There is really not a better hotel for the price in the Central Coast area. The staff is always exceptional, the property is beautiful (LOVE the fire pits!), and the restaurant is reasonable with a decent menu. Highly recommend!!

Love staying at the sands by the sea/cavilier...
Very clean...quite...polite and helpful staff....the restaurant has a great menu and very nice wait staff...pools and hot tubs are great...nice beach access...the weather was great....close by Cambria and Hearst Castle...the wildlife was wonderful this trip...the zebras were out and grazing. Hwy 1 is open and the scenery was wonderful.

Location is the main perk. No one was around at the check in desk - had to go to another part of the property area and check in at another hotel, it seemed like? Room was mostly clean but the desk chair had big pieces of the pleather coming off in chunks. Something in the walls or right outside the room made a clanging noise every 10-15 seconds all night - just loud enough to be annoying. But there was no one at the check in desk to report anything to.

Arrived on site and asked before check-in to be sure we had a room with the ocean view. I was upgraded for just a few more dollars. Arrived to the room and the one complaint is the air conditioning clearly does not work. Staff arrived shortly after to prep the fireplace. Another staff member checked in to see if we were good and gave us a fan. Later to my surprise, they came back to the room with a bucket of ice and champagne completely unexpected. The properties absolutely stunning!

The motel seems to have been purchased so the lobby is closed and you have to go to the neighboring property to check in. They do not service the room daily, (unless you request it every day)

Also, the shower is TINY. So if you bump the shower valve you can get either cold or scolding not water instantly.

You have to walk down a side street to get to the Jacuzzi, so wet use it.

The heat is a radiant strip along a wall so it took forever to heat the room.
Won't be back.

The room was clean and the staff are helpful. I love that there is a microwave and ref in the room. There are also multiple outlets to plug your devices and best of all, wifi is free!
We also love the hotel backyard with access to the beach and different games for family. Beautfiful spot to watch the sunset. We will definitely come back to this hotel!

This property is Amazing, especially if you have a pet, lots of space for a walk, baggies everywhere for the clean up. Try booking at the Cavalier the rooms are more up to date, at the Sands by the Sea is not well maintain:( the shower in room #233 was built for 5foot people my husband had a hard time showering, there was ZERO UPGRADES! As is a busy spring break week, so we managed and made the best of it. They have Fire pits to enjoy at night that is Super fun and warm. Make sure to eat before 9pm EVERYTHING CLOSES BY 9pm. Super close to the Hearts Castle.

Nice location, right for the price. Cleanliness was ok found a couple dead bugs on the bed. Looked like sheets hadnt been changed, desk chair was old and falling apart. They sent someone to change the sheets. Great outside amenities. The second night we could get into our room after walking back and forth 3 different changes of keys, finally almost 1hr going back n forth and needed to use the restroom they sent someone to fix it and get us in the room. Just real inconvenience having to walk back and forth to the office. Parking was good, enjoyed the bomb fire.

The inexpensive \"Sands\" section of the Cavalier Oceanfront Motel where we stayed was quite shabby; refrigerator didn't close, carpet was filthy, no AC. Fortunately, it shared all the amenities with the next door Cavalier with it's large oceanfront lawn, restaurant, and pools. Loved hearing the surf at night and watching the sunset from the lawns.

I had a wonderful experience from the moment I checked in to the moment I left. The ocean view was perfect. The room was clean and cozy. Pet-friendly, my grandkids enjoyed the pool. I already told my friends it's a nice place to stay, and I will definitely make future reservations.

I enjoyed my stay here. Really, my only complaint is that the carpets were horribly stained (pet room). But no odor or anything. The shower door rubber gasket needs replacing. I stayed 2 nights here and will stay again. Beautiful environment, next door to Cavalier Hotel. And those staying at the Sands get to use the Cavalier's exterior space and restaurant. If you're on a budget, this is a great place. No pet fee! Staff is wonderful.

Our room was basic but quite adequate for our needs. You have to check in the hotel next door to check in. There were very few guests present on the night we were there. Unfortunately, we had a horrible night of sleep. We were in Room 130, which might be next to a utility room and an HVAC system for the next building. We listened to a fog horn like sound every 12 seconds and some hammer like banging at 6 am. After a not very restful night, our one night stay was over. Upon checking out, I did inform the gentleman at the front desk of the next door facility of our sleep interrupted night - mostly just to ask them to investigate these noises before the next guest stayed in that room. He apologized for our poor stay, did inform us that we should have contacted them to switch our room, and insisted on refunding us for our night's stay. I applaud the Sands by the Sea for their customer service for trying to make things right with us. I would certainly be willing to give their facility another try - so long as we are not at the very south end of the row by the utility room or whatever was next to us.

This was a great spot for my husband and I and our 2 dogs. Our room did not face the ocean, but it was a close walk and the trails around this area are great for walking the dogs. The room had a larger refrigerator than most hotels, which since we brought lots of food worked out perfectly. Would absolutely stay here again as for the price, it was awesome.

The room was pretty dirty and dusty. There was dust attacked to the ceiling and ceiling fan. We didn’t even use it because of that. The room was poorly unkept. I think wanted to leave but I figured I paid already. Nothing like the reviews I saw. Wouldn’t stay again. Just too dirty and stained everywhere it was uncomfortable because it felt gross.

The furniture in the room was in very bad condition. The drawers wouldn’t stay closed. The laminate on the dresser was peeled off along most of the bottom. The roller chair vinyl was almost completely peeled off. The room had a bit of a odor. I realize it’s a older hotel but it needs some updating.

The room was isolated from everything, no access to the ocean, yet the beach was in advertising. The hotel lobby was closed: directions left “go to hotel next door.” The Cavalier next door was ready to upgrade at a cost of $106 per night. But they said they were a separate entity from the Sands by the Sea. First lie, then they said the properties were co-owned, second lie. Three people perched in the lobby backing each other up. They gave us the option to leave, they said our payment had not been charged. We left, went home, 400 miles driven and a Christmas gift destroyed. Not only did they lie about charging, but the charge was $180 above the original agreed rate, another lie and a fraudulent over charge. This charge was reversed by a future conversation with Expedia. This experience left us with a costly experience. Our ride home was long and dark with distressing feelings. The treatment by hotel personal was with extreme disregard and disrespect. We felt setup by a predator oriented system. Our cost: hundreds, my cost: embarrassment, my Christmas gift to my wife was destroyed. Five months earlier we vacationed to Hawaii, excess of $6000, went well, flights arranged through Expedia.

This was a great stay for the money. I still cannot believe dogs stay free! Thank you SO much! The rooms are just fine, clean, in good repair. I stayed twice and the staff have always been great. The property is on the cliff overlooking the ocean. Sands is part of Cavalier Resort so can use all of the facilities. Restaurant on site. I would definitely stay a 3rd time if I were going to be in the area.

The staff checking in are great. Colleen and Roxy know how to make a guest feel welcome. The room is extremely outdated and needs to be upgraded badly. The curtains didn't close all the way, the window barely opened, the microwave the buttons all didn't work, the heater made a horrible sound that kept me up most of the night. I complained about these issues the next day was told they would see about changing my room and they would call me. Never got a call. Appears the staff does not communicate with each other and just will give lip service to a guest so they go away and become someone else's problem.
