We had a fridge no microwave or stove also the it took us 4 days to figure out how the heating worked. Was told ocean view but looked over broken down houses at the back of the building you could see the ocean if you looked at the gap in the road

I booked a very basic room, I stayed from 29Jan to 1Feb 2026 (narrowly missing the storm that hit Malta the week before)
The automatic heating timer was no ideal, as it got very cold at night and the room was cold.
The breakfast was not worth it, would recommend to go to a local cafe that will be better and worth the price!
The location of the hotel is amazing, as soon as you leave you a greeted with an amazing view of the Mediterranean sea
Overall an Okay experience of the hotel, the staff were nice, (limited interactions with them)
I did not try the bar or other amenities of the hotel, (I want to go back to Malta again during May or September to truly experience the islands, I will book this hotel again (decent price) and review in the future

This was a 1 night stay only!

The rooms were very ‘tired’! In need of a full refurbishment!

Room we was offered was not what was shown on the website.

There was no plug sockets next to the bed, which I needed for my apnoea machine…All furnishings look years old (doors, baths, those with kitchenettes, balcony furniture etc)

We was moved to another room which did have sockets next to the bed (as shown on the website), the room looked like it had perhaps recently been poorly painted, but again all furnishings really do need replacing.

The bed was really firm, but for me that was comfortable, so I did have a good nights sleep.

Although we didn’t use it, the ‘nature reserve’ pool & bar area opposite for guest use did look very inviting.

There are no tea/coffee provisions, but the rooms do have a kettle & fridge.

Could not fault the staff and Joana on reception was extremely helpful, as was the morning reception staff.

Buffet breakfast was very basic, with only 2 cereal options, no alternative milk/bread options & a no frills hot option English style breakfast.

This hotel for me was In a great location, the price was excellent for a week’s stay. The pool and outdoor restaurant were really good. I did have breakfast once and it was 10 euro and it had a great selection of food and drinks. All the staff I met and interacted with were amazing. The only negative I’d have to say is the comfort of the beds, I even asked other guests to ensure it wasn’t just my room, but the mattress’s are horrible, I mean if your out all day and want a good nights sleep, you won’t get it. Luckily I had two beds in my room and being a solo traveler I took all the bedding plus my extra bathroom towels and put them down on top of the mattress to make it a little more bearable. Anyways besides the bad beds everything else was great here.

The staff were excellent, on our first night the TVs were not working properly and one member of staff came to our room and spent half an hour resetting the channels and even went and found extra remote controls as there was only 1 in the room for 3 TVs, this despite the fact he was actually heading home when I went to the front desk and asked for assistance. All of the staff were super helpful.

The rooms were very clean and we were able to choose when they were cleaned during the stay. We had a 2 bedroom apartment. The rooms were a good size, and it was great to have a kitchen area and a living room area, but although both rooms had small balconies, only one actually faced the outside of the hotel, the other facing into a wall which meant that the living area and one of the bedrooms were quite dark, even during the day. The patio area that did face the outside of the hotel was lovely though, it overlooked a busy little cafe and we enjoyed sitting and watching the world go by.

We had plenty of pillows and towels and the beds were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water for showers etc. Shower gel and hand wash were also provided.

Breakfast was a bit repetitive, but there was plenty and the hot drinks were very good! The pool area was great, with plenty of sunbeds and an attached restaurant for lunch/dinner and a great cocktail happy hour.

It’s a great budget hotel and the rooms have been renovated but don’t expect the ritz. We needed somewhere to base and get some sleep and it did the job well for us. The maids came in daily if required and the rooms were not dirty but they were also not spotless (there was a squashed mosquito on the wall when we arrived which was not removed). They did let us check in early though so this may have been due to rushing getting the room cleaned for us early.

The beds were comfy enough and there were extra pillows in the cupboard. The shower did the job but there was not much pressure.

We were on the top floor (6th) and this room had a large balcony which was nice to sit out on in the evening.

The drinks at the pool bar were a little expensive especially considering the cost of the hotel (they sold cans of Cisk for around €7 when at the bottom of the road there is a cafe that sells pints of draught Cisk for €4.50). The food at the pool was more reasonable and looked good. I had a pizza one day which was basic but did the job for €9

The staff were always friendly and said hello and goodbye with a smile.

The pool itself is a really good size and could (with some money put into it) be an amazing space, but it looks like it was built in the 80s and now looks dated and a little run down. Again it was nice for a dip and I wouldn’t call it dirty. It was very cold though but luckily the weather was warm so it was ok to cool down.

If you want something basic, this hotel is fine

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Dining was convenient and quantuty was good. Will say food was a little bland. My only real complaint was the hill that gad to be negotiated wgen heading for the bus and the distance to the beach. Pool was nice. A hot tub would be a giod addition. When construction is done it will be even better.

The breakfast food options were good, staff were friendly and kept filling in the empty trays, it would have been better with English sausages and mushrooms. Very pleased with the fresh jalapeños and olives. The bed was high and comfortable with extra cushions.

Great base for Family holiday, everything you need only a short bus ride away gorgeous setting of St. Paul’s bay and small pool and bar area If prefer staying by the pool Stayed in two bed apartment on 4th floor there is a small lift but the kids preferred the stairs, apartment had everything you needed for family and fresh towels and housing keeping daily staff were helpful and friendly would highly recommend

Extremely basic family accommodation, it was ok at best for a 3 star and way below what you’d expect from an 8/10 ‘exceptional’ hotels.com ranking was fine but dated and nothing left for us , no tea / Coffee etc . Breakfast was ok but served in a windowless room with zero decor . FOH we’re arguing when we arrived . We got a puncture outside the hotel as the roads are just full of debris . It’s 3 star so This is not an 8/10 exceptional hotel .

We had a very good experience. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The room was spotlessly clean, the pool was so nice and I loved that there were umbrellas for shade. The balcony was a great addition. The beds could have been more comfortable but not bad. The A/C in the room was excellent

We are regular guests at this hotel (previously known as Porto Azzurro aparthotel), however, on our most recent stay in July 2025, since the \"refurbishment\" in March, we can confirm that the place has deteriorated. It was never anything fancy, but it used to be a nice, quiet, relaxing place to stay. Not anymore! The only real improvement is the reception desk but that's the least important aspect of a stay. We were allocated room 410 with 'sea view'. It was well equipped with oven, microwave, fridge, balcony. The room itself is nothing special. The air conditioning is old and omits a foul smell, god knows what bacteria is lurking inside the unit. Regarding room cleaning, I'm not sure it was cleaned during the 8 nights we were there. The towels were changed daily, however, they are very small. The biggest disappointment is the pool area. From morning until night there is loud AI music blasting from the speakers around the pool. I don't know what kind of vibe they're trying to create but it's certainly not a good one. Also the sun loungers are uncomfortable and all cramped together under big umbrellas which means the whole area is shaded. That defeats the object of being on holiday in Malta when one comes for the sun. Our biggest gripe was when the pool / bar attendant asked everybody to move from the sunny side of the pool deck to the shady side when it got to 6pm so that they could set up tables and chairs for the evening diners. We are reluctant to return for these reasons

The location is great with the bus stops, view, convenient store, and quick food options like eeetwell!

The staff was kind & hotel was also fine. The room I had was okay, no view, but everything functioned.

I didn't check out the pool or their meal options, but basic English breakfast was offered for €10. They also allowed baggage storage.

It was good for my 1 night stay.

Relaxing One-Night Stay
We stayed at Xemxija Bay Hotel for one night and really enjoyed it. The room was clean, comfortable, and had a lovely pool view, which made it feel even more relaxing. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and everything went smoothly from check-in to check-out. The hotel is in a peaceful area but still close to local restaurants and scenic walks. A great spot for a short getaway—would happily return!

Unser Aufenthalt in diesem Hotel in Malta war insgesamt völlig inakzeptabel. Bereits beim Betreten des Zimmers war klar, dass die Unterkunft nicht einmal grundlegende Standards erfüllt.
Das Zimmer war stark verschmutzt: Der Kühlschrank war dreckig und vollständig funktionsuntüchtig, Wände und Tür wiesen sichtbare Flecken und schwarze Stellen auf, der Tisch war schmutzig und die Kissenbezüge waren fleckig. Dies zeigt einen klaren Mangel an elementarer Hygiene.
Die Klimaanlage funktionierte bei unserer Ankunft nicht. In der ersten Nacht war das Zimmer extrem kalt, was zu erheblichem Unbehagen und Schlafmangel führte.
Besonders gravierend waren die Sicherheitsmängel. In den Fluren hingen Rauchmelder lose mit herausstehenden Schrauben und Nägeln, offenbar nach unsachgemäßen Wartungsarbeiten. Infolge dieser Fahrlässigkeit stieß ich mit dem Kopf an die herausstehenden Befestigungen. Zusätzlich war im Zimmer ein Panel über dem Bett locker und stellte ein weiteres Sicherheitsrisiko dar.
Auch das Restaurant war in einem hygienisch unzumutbaren Zustand. Wände und Tische waren verschmutzt, und das Besteck wies sichtbare Flecken sowie Essensreste auf, was ernsthafte Bedenken hinsichtlich der Lebensmittelsicherheit aufwirft.
Der Kühlschrank im Zimmer war nicht nutzbar, wodurch gekaufte Lebensmittel (u. a. Eis) vollständig verdarben und zusätzliche Kosten entstanden.
Am schwerwiegendsten ist jedoch, dass das Zimmer in keiner Weise den auf der Expedia-Seite dargestellten Fotos und Beschreib

Ein ruhiges Hotel, das Zimmer war groß und sauber, hat einen Kühlschrank, einen Wasserkocher, Tassen, Gläser und Löffel, und Sitzgelegenheiten, das Bad ist geräumig, und die Terrasse vom Zimmer war riesig - alles super. Die Lage ist gut, um mit dem Bus überall auf der Insel hin zu fahren, und der kleine Wald auf dem Hügel hinter dem Hotel ist einfach fantastisch. Auch für Wanderungen im Norden von Malta ist das Hotel ein idealer Ausgangspunkt.

Das Hotel ist ziemlich in die Jahre gekommen. Das heißt, dass es schon etwas schäbig aussieht. Unser Zimmer lag zusätzlich im Keller, wo es ultrakalt war und nie ein einziger Sonnenstrahl zu sehen war. Wir nannten es stets liebevoll das Verließ. Außerdem ist in der Nähe wirklich gar nichts. Also das ist schon fast übertrieben. Das hauseigene Restaurant ist auch nicht wirklich zu empfehlen, da man fast nichts bestellen kann und außerdem werden viele Komponenten eines Gerichts einfach weggelassen. Das war nicht so toll. Also nochmal würden wir nicht wiederkommen. Aber zu deren Verteidigung: Immerhin war es günstig und der Reinigungsservice war ausgezeichnet.
