The roof top pools were amazing. Booked a luxury suite which was spacious but the bathroom often smelled of sewage. Great value anyways. Quite far from Valletta by Uber but area has an enough restaurants nearby. Would still recommend.

Very nice hotel with great helpful staff!!
The hotel is kept clean and the buffet breakfast is fab with plenty of choices so if go make sure you book breakfast included as we saw a couple who was turned away from the restaurant

The position is good although there are road woes at the moment so bus stop was temp moved but still well positioned. A few ramp of stairs to get from the main road though so take it easy 😉

We tried Tosca the first night. Food was ok but we found it a bit pricey compared to the rest of Malta. Porthouse steak restaurant next door is amazing

The hotel was lovely, clean, well looked after. The staff were superb and extremely helpful and friendly, they made the stay for me.
The restaurants were good, not overly priced. The breakfast was ok, plenty of choice but I would prefer fresh juice and served tea/coffee to the table but that's a personal preference.
The spa treatment we had was amazing.

Firstly I must say the staff were always helpful and Oliver who worked at The Prickly Pear, lovely, always a smile on his face and made amazing mojitos!

The communal areas are very clean and modern, however my room was not exactly up to the same standard. Maybe I’ve just been lucky in other 4 star hotels I’ve stayed in, but normally I would expect shampoo at the very least, but that’s not so bad.

However being placed next to the games room, was awful, when people were in there at night it sounded like they were in the room with me, so loud! And the machines don’t get turned off until 11pm. The elevators are extremely near to this room as well and despite it being a fire door to my room and the games room, this was propped open majority of the time. This also meant I could hear guests coming and going at all hours of the morning from the elevators.

The air con would sometimes make quite loud noises for no apparent reason during the night, which was difficult to sleep through.

It’s a shame because the staff were nice enough and the area is lovely (minus all the road works currently)

Our room had AC system that leaked on to our bed. They changed the bed linen and added a towel to the duct to absorb the water until morning. Morning past, afternoon past and in the following evening we arrived back to our room to find the water was dripping on the bed and floor like a running tap. We got told they would put another towel in to absorb the water through the night again but complained as it was nearly midnight at this point.
We got moved to a temporary room to just sleep that night. It was awful. Noisy and smoke alarm kept flashing all night. The following mor I by the moved us to a “supreme” room. It was pretty standard room, luckily we did not have issues with the room going forward. The staff gave us a bottle of wine and some sweets to say sorry.
Overall Food was delicious, staff were polite. The heated Pools were lovely but busy as expected during colder season and spa treatments were very good.

Quick and pleasant check in. We'd booked an apartment, very happy with it, again pleasant cleaning staff. As people have mentioned, noise seems to travel, as everywhere has tiled floors. I had a massage which was very enjoyable. We had a meal in Tosca on our last night, again enjoyable meal, nice staff.

A hidden gem of hospitality. The staff is very friendly. On Mondays and Thursdays there was live music in the lobby: you can mingle and dance. The hotel is clean and the staff very responding to any issues. We found the indoor pool too busy, but the sauna was perfect. The spa is basic, but nice. I enjoyed a chocolate euphoria treatment. We spent 1 month at this hotel so we got to know not just the hotel staff but also the locals. We found a karaoke bar close by and enjoyed the locals' company every friday. After 4 weeks, we knew each other by name!! There are many restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance. We loved the location as we were able to hike and take the bus to Valletta or any other city. Overall, a great location for us, good food, good people, clean facities and easy access to larger cities. Gladly recommend the place.

Positives: loved the outdoor heated pool. The breakfast has a good range. Staff very nice and friendly. Upgraded room nice and had what needed.
Negatives: Bad drain smell as enter room. Reported and maintenance tried to help.
View: Not great. Very close to opposite apartments/room which look directly into your room.
Breakfast: no one clearing plates etc - very slow. Was told that hotel very short staffed.
Indoor pool: this was so dirty and cloudy you could not even see the steps to go in so got straight out.

The room was so spacious and clean. I didnt use it but the kitchenette was a very good addition. The whole hotel is well looked after and very comfortable. It must be amazing in summer with the rooftop pools. The spa was lovely and well maintained. The gym looked decent but i didn't use it. The breakfast was plentuful and well organised. Also i had the evening buffet once during my stay and it was lovely. I would love to stay at the Solano again in the future.

We booked an accommodation and specifically stated that we wanted 2 interconnecting rooms and a kitchenette. We even contacted the front desk and they confirmed this. Upon arrival we were told that the hotel did not have any interconnecting rooms. The room given to us also did not a kitchenette. We had young kids so we could not leave them alone in seperate rooms.Therefore we had to leave solana hotel. The hotel refused to issue our regund for a 9 days stay considering the circumstances. Their customer desk lied to us and they refused to take responsibility for the error by thr front desk representative.

Wonderful buffet breakfast, live music in lobby when we arrived, wonderful rooftop pool and rooftop bar. Heated outdoor and indoor at ground level, lovely sauna and small gym. Did not try the Spa but heard it was excellent. Lots of excellent restaurants very close by. The walk down to the beach is an excellent workout especially the uphill hike back (or grab a frequent bus or the Bolt rideshare which are abundant and inexpensive). Loved this hotel, our room was great, balcony was big and staff were amazing. Highly recommend.

However our morning coffee mugs in our room was not washed and every day on our return to the room we had to wash them ourselves. Also on two occasions we had to asked for toilet paper as the cleaner did not restock with a spare apart from the one that was already being used.

Room was spacious and comfortable except for the patio which directly looks into the adjacent rooms. Had a peak a view of the water. Level 4. Paid for “panoramic” view - not the case. The property was 5 min walk to the main church and across was a bus stop. Convenient. My room key failed 4 times. And staff was busy with check ins so I couldn’t get into my room for half an hour. Frustrating. Heated indoor pool and sauna was nice as it was too cold to enjoy the many rooftop outdoor pools. Views from rooftop was lovely.

I can see why most guests leave an excellent review for this hotel: it’s all about the free drinks included in the buffet price or the free buffet included in the room rate.
The quality of the food corresponded to the price. Scrambled eggs with no taste whatsoever (probably from a Tetra Pak), bacon not crispy at all, no fresh fruit juices …
Cleanliness could have been better, the maid didn’t even remove the used dishes we put on the balcony. The bathroom wasn’t cleaned thoroughly, either.
The huge air condition units are placed in the inner court of the hotel, so that you can hear a constant roar day and night, even with the window closed. You don’t want to sit on the balcony with that noise.
Each balcony is illuminated with a bright light that can’t be switched off, so no one ever uses the balcony at night.
We were issued a voucher for a hydro massage in the spa area, however, it could only be redeemed between 11.00 and 16.30h, when you’re out and about.
The parking garage is well hidden in a different building, with no sign pointing to it. It’s very narrow and you have to give your car keys to the staff, so that they park the car for you.

Great hotel and amazing service! Kis, reception manager, with wonderful gift of hospitality, made sure we were satisfied at every opportunity. When we arrived, we got the most amazing room with wide open view of the sea, but it was next to the air conditioning facility and quite loud, so we complained, They couldn't possibly find us a better room, but they gave us a bottle of Maltese wine and spa towels and robes. It was a kind and generous gesture. Roof-top pool is with incredible view. Breakfast food and especially Steaks and Chocolates buffet dinner were fantastic. Amazing experience overall. Would come back in a heart beat.

Nice hotel in Mellieha. Rooms were clean and comfortable. We were given the room under the pool area which meant that we could hear the chairs being moved in the morning.

The rooftop pools were nice with a reasonably priced bar, especially during happy hour.

The gym was a reasonable size with most of the equipment that you would need.

Parking is available for 10 euros a night. You can risk to park on the street but the hotel is on a very busy road.

After spending a lot of time researching hotels in Malta, we chose the Solana Hotel based on its location, facilities, price, and room photos. Check-in was smooth, and we were quickly given directions to our room.

Unfortunately, the room we were assigned was on level -3 and had no window. The Expedia website described the room as “Internal/no balcony”, but it did not mention that there was no window at all. Since I am claustrophobic, I couldn’t stay in a room without one. I went back to the reception desk to see what could be done, but the only option was to pay an additional €160 to upgrade. After a long negotiation (and with no help from Expedia because it was high season), I managed to get the price down to €100.

Putting that initial issue aside, the hotel itself was incredible. Our new room was spacious and clean, with an extremely comfortable bed and a wonderful shower. The hotel feels new and has excellent facilities, including a gym, a sauna, and multiple swimming pools—the rooftop one was a highlight. The included breakfast was also fantastic, with a wide variety of options. The staff were very helpful throughout our stay.

I would absolutely recommend staying here.

The property is ok, it’s clean and the rooftop pool area is a nice place to hang out. The room was clean but the furniture was most uncomfortable. The sofa/bed in particular was awful. In the main the staff were courteous and polite, but the women in the rooftop bar were rude and brusque without any need to be as they were hardly hard pushed.
My wife was disappointed with the standard of the Spa and would not book it for a second treatment.
On one night guests were running about the hotel like idiots slamming doors until about 5AM during which I wasn’t able to get any meaningful sleep. There are no soft close mechanisms on the doors to the stairs and corridors so they bang shut very loudly.
Will not be back to this hotel.

Had a rather mixed stay at Solana. The room was a good size and comfortable. The rooftop pool is definitely the star feature of the hotel, plenty of shade and perfect water temperature with great view. There's a bar you can get drinks and good food too.
We only had breakfast but there was plenty of choice.

We had a strange experience with house keeping placing a do not disturb sign on our door, then posting a \"we noted the sign and didn't clean\" leaflet under the door. Unfortunately it took 3 days for them to confirm this which meant we didn't have peace of mind whilst there and no explanation as to why this would happen. There also is no shampoo or conditioner so come prepared!

Despite this we did manage to have a lovely stay with easy walking distance to lovely restaurants.

Wonderful hotel to stay in north of the island. Was a bit sad initially to see it was quite far from the beach but the wonderful views from the terrace top very much make up for that and the local bus network is spot on so you can get most places like the beach quite quickly. It is also very handy for local shops and restaurants. The main hotel restaurant shuts quite early but then we were probably out of season. The top restaurant remains open quite late I think.

Any query I had was answered by the lovely and friendly staff. You are spoilt for choice with pools. The top pools are stunning and very refreshing. We backed onto the bottom garden heated pool which was lovely and quiet in the mornings. Was a shame we couldnt get direct access to it as they informed us our balcony gate stayed shut but otherise it was a bonus and local friendly cats that visit were also very sweet and a huge bonus- they only say hello if they know you're friendly! Lots of sweet little birds around too.

Can honestly say it is one of the best hotels I have stayed. I really hope to return one day and make proper use of the spa. Thanks to all who make it a lovely stay!

Great hotel for the Mallehia area. Lovely roofdeck and front desk was super helpful and friendly. Buying breakfast option is a great idea and buying 2-3 of the buffet dinners (more affordable and more food options) than local restaurants. The indoor pool wasn’t heated until we asked about it. The roofdeck pool that was supposed to be headed was out of service. Bring your own beach towel for hotel. They give you a beach towel but then it’s €5 to exchange them out. I get that some people abuse the system but €5 is almost equavalent to buying a new towel at the beach. Charging €1-2 makes more sense. Overall had a nice stay in Malta and would stay at the hotel again if I was in this area again.

Overall, pretty good. We had a superior room but I wasn’t sure what was superior about it. Bathroom was nice but the furniture was a bit dated. Tiny balcony with a table and chairs but you had to move them to get on to it. I would stay there again

Great place to stay! Food options are halal, themed buffet nights and a restaurant on site.
Very clean and the spa is lovely with lots of treatments to choose from. Had one of the best facials there!
Rooms were a little small considering we booked studio rooms. Rooms came with a spacious bathroom and a built in kitchen. Would have like more in room services such as water bottles and an iron.

I recently stayed at this hotel, drawn by its high ratings and promising amenities. Well located on a very quiet main road. Walking distance places to visit or with Bolt taxis. While there were aspects I appreciated, some experiences fell short of expectations.

Positives:

The hotel boasts a refreshed and welcoming ambiance, with modern decor that creates a pleasant atmosphere. Nice spa.
The staff at the front desk were courteous and helpful during check-in, the stay, questions and making the arrival process smooth. Great shower!

Areas for Improvement:

Despite booking a premium room, the view was underwhelming (inexistant!), overlooking a dark corner area where a workman was drilling next to the balcony. This resulted in dust accumulation, which remained uncleaned the following day.
The room felt cold (thin duvet), and adjusting the temperature controls didn't seem to make a difference, affecting overall comfort.
Breakfast was average; the food lacked flavor, either under or overcooked or oily. Additionally, a few morning staff members seemed disengaged, impacting the dining experience.
An unpleasant odor in the reception area, seemingly emanating from the pool and spa below, was noticeable and detracted from the otherwise inviting lobby.
I experienced an issue with the elevator, getting stuck and requiring assistance, which was inconvenient and concerning.

The area is nice for 2-3 days then you need to go further away to enjoy the island more. 3 out of 5 stars

Solana stay

The Solana is a good hotel, in a great location.Staff were amazing, very helpful , they went the extra mile!
On the downside, their AC only works at to a certain temperature depending on the time of year, not great as our room was warm. We also had to swap rooms after two days due to the noise from a large flume vent outside our bedroom window, the hotel were more than happy to accommodate with a new room.

A modern hotel very friendly staff on reception breakfast service cleaning staff all spoke i liked that a credit to hotel .my room was clean spacious a good shower bed comfy .i thought breakfast was excellent. Its on a bus linebus stop a few minutes away i very much enjoyed my stay thankyouas a sol traveller i was made to feel welcome.

A well maintained property with clean and comfortable room. Shoulder season and rooftop pools not heated.
Breakfast is above average although limited gluten free choices

I overpaid booking ahead. In spring one could get same room for almost half listed price last minute

Plenty of restaurants in area. Great bus service to airport, Gozo and Valetta by boat piers a 15 minute bus ride away

Lovely Hotel with great facilities and really really friendly and helpful staff. Great happy hour for cocktails, room cleaned daily. The only downside was perhaps the wet room style shower as the water goes everywhere.

Disappointing

On the hotel website it specifically states for a superior room that there is adjustable air conditioning and in the details it states there is individually controlled air conditioning. This is not the case and we were told by staff and maintenance that the hotel is on winter setting which meant the room would not go below 24 degrees. It is recommended that a room temperature is between 15.6-20 degrees Celsius for the most comfortable sleep, 24 was too hot. A portable fan and an AC unit was provided however both were too noisy and the AC unit blew out hot air at the back and needed the balcony door open to function. For security and noise we were not able to sleep with the balcony door open through the night. Really not good enough considering the wording on the room description on hotels.com and the hotel website.
