Amazing stay. Quaint. Breakfast included is amazing. Ordered the Americano. Charco Bistro is the best place to eat in town. I had the shrimp appetizer and the ribeye. House red tannat was lovely! All staff were exceptionally friendly! Turn air conditioning on in the room with a remote. Go to De los Suspiros for white wine and cheese in the afternoon. Incredible!

We had a wonderful stay at Charco Hotel… enjoying very much the restaurant and the spacious, beautiful room. We stayed in a Suite (Room 2) and the room was lovely. But the bathroom was tiny and it was directly on the street at the entrance (even before the reception área). Fortunately, the street was a quiet one, and noise was not a problem. I would highly Recommend the hotel and restaurant.

Very nice property. Quick ride from the ferry. In the middle of the old town so very walkable. The property and the are around it are beautiful. We tried both breakfast and dinner at the facility, both were good. The rooms were comfortable, spacious, quiet and well equipped. The only thing is the tiny bugs that filled the pillows and the bed covers but I guess nothing you can do about that.

A wonderful boutique hotel with only 7 rooms right on the Rio de Plata. Best room is room 7 with balcony on the river. Service was great. Restaurant was a wonderful setting on the river with a limited menu. But enough choice for anyone and really good quality food. One of the very best around.

This was an absolutely charming little hotel, with the stone wall in our room being the same stones you see on the outside. In the old, colonial section of town with cobblestone streets and remnants of the old city wall and draw-gate still in place. This hotel is right where you want to be in order to explore the historical area of the town. Only a $5 taxi ride from the ferry station, and no need for a rental car while here; you can walk everywhere. In the 5 countries we visited on this trip, this hotel was a highlight. And the Charco restaurant was also wonderful. Only complaint - the hotel was so quiet, we slept until 10:30 am. If you're from the U.S., do remember to bring your electrical converters. We had no USB plug-ins in our room (though the other couple we were with said there was one under their desk) and had to use a converter to plug in anything. Staff was also incredibly nice & helpful and spoke perfect English. What an amazingly quaint, beautiful place right on the river. I want to go back!

Nice hotel that could be better. The staff seem disinterested and aren’t particularly engaging. The room was nice with a very comfortable bed, however during our stay construction on the building next door starts at 8am so sleeping isn’t an option. However that shouldn’t be held against the hotel. The breakfast was perfect and the restaurant staff were very helpful and accommodating which was greatly appreciated. Room service was prompt and very nice as well. However I find it shocking for the price of the hotel that they charge 3usd for a coffee pod in your room or significant charges for bottled water. These seem like small amenities that could and should be included. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it but it could be so much better with very little effort.

On the other hand, I found the hotel very overpriced to what it actually offers, beware that constructions are on going at both ends of the hotel so spending the day at Charco can be a bit unpleasant due to all the noise.

The location was fantastic, the breakfasts perfect and every member of the staff was exceptionally helpful, friendly and genuinely interested in making sure that our stay with them and throughout the remainder of our journey was to our liking. The manager, William, and his 2 assistant managers freely offered us suggestions for local experiences that were unique to the dates when we were in Colonia as well as restaurant suggestions for other places that were on our itinerary. Modern yet full of history hotel w/great service

This place is a dream. The location is a short walk (10 mins) from the ferry stop and through a darling, historic neighborhood. The staff were amazing - ready to book us wine tours, make restaurant reservations, and attend to our every need. The cafe on the property has wonderful food and equally good service. The view from the hotel is terrific. We stayed in a small stone house across the cobblestone street from the main hotel property. The modern/uniquely Uruguayan decor was a delight and the beds were uber comfortable. By far the best hotel in Colonia!

I would go back in a heartbeat to this charming, romantic, and lovely hotel. The service was top notch! The restaurant was superb, and the food was truly inventive and excellent. The location was perfect for the small town of Colonia, right in the middle of the old section. Our room, Guest Room 1, was so large and yet very cozy. If the beauty outside was not so magnificent, we may not have left! My fiancé and I had a-recently-engaged weekend there, and the hotel was absolutely perfect! We will return, hopefully to celebrate an anniversary.

Lovely hotel in a lovely town

Firstly, Colonia is a wonderful little town. Not a lot going on, but it's very pretty, and just made for early evening strolls, making up for the fact that you didn't take many photos while in BA, sitting on the city walls watching the sunset over the Rio and then turning in for big dinner somewhere. This would make an ideal one or two night stay after a busy holiday in Buenos Aires.

The hotel is ideally situated: it's not on the main square but is only 15m away (Colonia is not a large town!). It's clean and very pretty. Our room was slightly on the smaller side, and also didn't feel the most private - we could overhear people coming in and out of reception. But the bed was enormous and extremely comfortable.

We ate in the restaurant both for an evening meal and for breakfast. Both were great. The place is open all day, which is fairly advantageous as we are still not used to the South American practice of eating at 10pm or later!

Overall, we wished we'd booked a flexible ferry back to Argentina, as we really wanted to stay a second night!

Absolute gem!

We stayed for three nights including New Years Eve. Prior to arriving we were emailed with the NYE menu and the opportunity to book so that we didn't miss out. We didn't book, but the thought was very much appreciated.
There were two things that detracted from our stay - firstly the bathroom was a little cramped and secondly we didn't get some of the items that we ordered from breakfast (when we asked about our items we were told that breakfast had finished and the language barrier meant that we were unable to explain that we'd ordered the items and had not received them). I would suggest that if an item is missing that you let them know quickly - as we waited for 30 mins while they served other people thinking that they were just busy.
But we would absolutely go back - in fact I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Colonia! The food at breakfast and lunch was exquisite and the bathroom was absolutely bearable!
Actually, one other thing - I thought that I'd prepaid our accommodation however when we went to checkout it would appear that we hadn't (only a pre-authorisation). The hotel staff were very accommodating and allowed me to use the hotel computer to check my bank records. Ensure you check this before you leave home!

Beautiful hotel, charming staff, great food

Charco is on perhaps the prettiest street in Colonia, right in the middle of the old town, and less than 10 minutes walk from the ferry. It's a lovely old building which has been very tastefully converted, the rooms are a generous size, white and airy with comfy beds, soft robes / towels and a big fridge to keep your drinks cold. The staff were lovely - they spoke great English and went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. The restaurant is a real gem with a lovely terrace overlooking the water - great food. Service is a little slow, but then so is everything in Colonia so just relax and look at the view. We spent our time reading in the pretty garden, exploring the town on the free hotel bikes and watching the sun set over the river from an array of yummy restaurants. We came for one night and stayed an extra 3, I've never felt so relaxed.

Insgesamt schönes Hotel mit gutem Restaurant und freundlichen Mitarbeitern. Es gibt nichts besonderes zu beanstanden außer die Preis-/Leistung. Für ein Hotel dieser Preisklasse (und wir waren in einer Suite) ist es deutlich zu laut. Man hört jeden Gast der ins Hotel rein- und rausgeht, da die Zimmer am Eingang sind und die Eingangstür unglaublich laut ist. Es fehlt an einer ordentlichen Begrüßung (etwas zu trinken oder ein warmes Tuch, stattdessen mussten wir 15min vor verschlossenen Türen warten). Die Zimmer sind schön und geräumig, die Betten bequem. Das Restaurant sehr gut! Auch beim Checkout hatten wir ein Taxi auf eine bestimmte Uhrzeit bestellt, was entweder vergessen wurde oder einfach deutlich zu spät kam… insgesamt ein schönes Hotel, wir würden wiederkommen aber nur zu anderen Preisen. Bei über 200€ pro Nacht sollte mehr drin sein und ich erwarte besseren Service. Das Frühstück war okay aber sehr Basic.
