The breakfast was not great all they have is the usual. The room didn’t have a refrigerator and we were in an area where they didn’t have parking for a long trailer on a truck. The lounge was closed have no idea what happened there.

The room and the area is very nice, but the beds were a bit uncomfortable. We expected a king or double queen (I can't remember). We fit in a queen together so I don't usually care. But the beds felt like they were full size. I don't know. Maybe I have grown bigger in my old age :) . We enjoyed our walk down Main Street and found a great restaurant called Macado's with fantastic sandwiches and very reasonable prices.

We were surprised when we could NOT CONTROL the temperature in our room. It is controlled by the hotel. They did provide us with a space heater and extra blanket. They list they have breakfast , but it was continental and not a hot breakfast. Otherwise the staff, room, location was excellent!

The bed was comfortable. The rugs are old and worn. There are many shelves that have not been cleaned in a long time. There was dust hanging off the top of the moulding above the bathroom door. I found nuts on the floor. The shower was good. The room badly needs a paint job. Person at the desk was pleasant and helpful.

There were several marks on the wall and the bathroom had lots of hair from the previous guests. I luckily brought cleaning products to clean the room myself. We only stayed 2 of the 3 nights due to the noise from elevator and other guests seemed like they were in the room with us. The staff was nice however we would not return due to the noise.

The Gin Hotel is a beautifully refurbished \"Grand\" Hotel in a small Virginia town. Located on Main Street in downtown Lexington, it is two blocks from Washington and Lee University and five blocks from the Virginia Military Institute. Lexington's Main Street has been reinventing itself each year over the fifty-five years since I graduated from W&L and it is now populated with unique shops, craft stores and restaurants. The hotel is quiet, clean and well maintained. Unlike when I was in Lexington in the late 1960s, the town is ringed with the usual collection of mid-level hotel chains. These are all fine hotels but ones like these can be found in virtually every town in the US. Staying in historic downtown Lexington (for the same price) is so much more fun!

Terrific stay at The Gin Hotel! Located in Lexington, VA, the hotel is close to both Washington & Lee and the Virginia Military Institute. The property is very charming with a lot of character. Staff was very welcoming, engaging and helpful. The room was clean and well tended. They offer a free continental breakfast, which is very basic, but was fine for our needs as we are not big breakfast eaters. The property is centrally located in the town and well situated for a walk about this historic town. I was particularly appreciative of the free parking, which was located directly behind the hotel and very convenient. All in all a brief, but great stay at The Gin!

We stayed at the Gin when we dropped our son off at W&L. The mattress was average and the electrical outlets are minimal, but the location, style, and hotel bar overlooking downtown more than made up for any deficiencies. We will be back for another bees knees soon.

Very cute boutique hotel. Small parking behind the hotel so you do have to walk around front, nice staff in the lobby. They offer a grab and go breakfast. Only thing is the outlets in our room at least were not near the bed to plug phones in we had them across the room. But we would stay again, close to shopping and nice restaurants.

Horrible sewer smell so strong in lobby and restaurant floor that it literally gagged me. No outlets near the bed, only one light switch so all lights are either on or off, not very clean, dead bugs behind the bed…I could go on and on…but the total deal breaker is the disgusting sewer smell. I think this place needs to be condemned. I cant believe the serve food in this place.

It WAS a neat old hotel
The hotel was nice and the front desk staff was pleasant (although a little jarring in her appearance). I was very disappointed that the new ownership has erased the Robert E. Lee name from the façade. The room was okay but the bed was rather hard, as were the pillows. The noise from the street wasn’t bad after midnight but at 5am the dumpster truck arrived in the alley and the noise from that interrupted my sleep (to be expected, I guess, when you stay in town). The included breakfast was, shall we say, minimal but not bad overall. I guess it was just a subpar experience for the price, but it is centrally located so the good thing is there’s lots else to do within walking distance of the hotel. Don’t miss Stonewall Jackson’s grave a few blocks away, as well as Robert E. Lee’s memorial at Washington & Lee chapel. Lexington is definitely a town suffering from hanging onto its roots.

Nice hotel but the Orbiz photos are wrong. Front of the hotel no longer has the words Robert E Lee painted on the front. The reason it was booked. Without the words it’s a regular old/charming hotel but missing it’s heritage.

Lacking a lot of things that would be needed for a good stay. No fridge, microwave, iron or ironing board. The bed was hard and not comfortable. The electrical outlets were loose and wouldn’t hold plugs. There was dust standing on the baseboards. There was no room service even though it was advertised. The one positive was the staff, they were very pleasant. It was way overpriced for the town and in comparison to others in the town.

It's old, which we expected. However, the condition is not a boutique hotel condition. Rather, it's like a motel in a historic building and the breakfast included is worse than what a two and half star hotel can offer. One elevator doesn't work. If your room is close to where the bar/restaurant is, good luck.

Beautiful town, comfortable bed (pillows suck) and the room is very clean. Awesome rain head shower with lots of hot water. Staff was super nice and check in went smoothly. Breakfast is the usual but they had fresh yogurt and fruit which was nice. It’s a little worn looking in spots and the walls are pretty thin but overall will stay again when traveling through.

I would have rated it a 5 except that you had no control of the temperature in the room. We had to call the front desk to get temperature adjustments and that’s just ridiculous in my opinion.

The Gin Hotel is a must stay again for me. The Gin is a unique hotel in a 100yr old building right in downtown Lexington. It was quiet, clean, safe and all of the staff were awesome. I grew up in the area but haven't returned in a couple of decades. Downtown Lexington has transformed into a great place to walk around, shop, eat and have a few drinks. The only negatives I would give is parking is tight for modern vehicles and the mattress was firmer than my taste... but that's personal preference.

this place was immaculate. the room was beautiful. we stayed on the 4th floor overlooking downtown. we woke to snow falling, you could see all around. the area was just wonderful. walking distance to many great eateries, hobby shops, and coffee. parking was tight but we found a spot. breakfast was minimal, but we enjoyed it. the hotel had a very classic feel with modern updates. bathroom was great. big shower. everything was clean. the staff were more than helpful. would definitely stay agian.

Charming, lovely. It was a wonderful experience and the staff was wonderful! Would definitely stay again. Our only complaint was that we could hear the adjacent rooms on both sides. Conversations were clearly heard and kept us awake. I was even awakened in the night by someone snoring in the otger room. I don't feel the neighbors were loud either. Just thin walls. I think it is just that it is an older building.

Great location but the hotel itself was a huge disappointment. It is very shabby with stained carpets, linens and chipped furniture. Lack of outlets near the bed for cpap machine and other device chargers was a challenge. Uncomfortable shower situation with just a small glass wall leaving you cold. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

Photos make it look better than it was but I would come back for the location and ease. Not great for small kids and walls not sound proof.

The room was clean but be prepared to be awaken each early morning with the trash truck emptying the dumpsters outside. The outlets are not situated by the bed so bring an extension cord to charge your phone. There is no mini fridge or microwave in the room. This is the former Robert E Lee hotel, which is what it still says above the door, making it a bit hard to find. The staff is friendly and the lobby is pretty. The rooms are a bit worse for wear — brown carpet on the floor and felt a bit in need to renovation. But the bathroom was redone very nicely and the room was clean. Very convenient to W&L and all the shops downtown.

Older hotel that recently went an ownership change. Kind of pricey for what one got- a room with a bed and bathroom but it is in a college town over a weekend. Convenient to everything in Lexington. Nice bar and restaurant that closed kind of early.
My only complaint is there was maybe 1-2 power outlets in the room, with none near the night stand to charge a phone. Hope they can remedy that with the renovations.
