Faded grandeur. Beautiful entrance and lobby and public areas. Rooms very dated and basic. Mould in shower, small room, poor and limited dated furniture. Nice staff. Probably value for what I paid. Only great issue… noise from plumbing. If rooms use their radiators and turn them up knocking sound reverberates around rooms, disturbing sleep. Mentioned to reception, not really interested. A lovely faded gem, and a place I’ve wanted to stay in for a while. So enjoyed experiencing a journey back to perhaps a different time.
Did note however check in chaos when it was busy… queue round the lobby at one point, so best advice check in handy otherwise you are in for a long wait.

Nice room but must have had smokers in it previously before us because it stunk of smoke 🚬 which was a shame because the room was nice! But the smokey smell was very unpleasant. Apart from that no other problems at all. Me and my husband are none smokers so this was an issue for us unfortunately.
Staff at reception absolutely lovely and welcoming can’t fault the staff.
Location was superb close to everything we needed.

The hotel looked lovely, on arrival the gentleman was very welcoming, friendly and helpful, he upgraded our room. We were on the 5th floor with a beautiful sea view however the lights on the side of the hotel shined through the top and sides of the window so the room wasn't completely dark and we had difficulty sleeping. The bed was comfortable and the room was nice, the doorframe had a few broken bits on it but the room locked and it didnt bother us. A coffee pod machine was provided however we couldn't get it to work and the shower temperature control was very stiff, I couldn't turn it and had to yell for my husband to help when the shower went cold, he found it difficult to turn but managed to do it. The flush button was loose and the panel feel off the wall, my hubby managed to put it back on. The hotel it's self was beautiful and we would definitely stay again despite our bad night sleep and a few teething problems, if we had been staying longer then we would of spoken to reception but for one night it was okay.

The lovely lady on reception when we checked in (17/2/26 around 1615) was friendly and welcoming and kindly upgraded our room for us, giving us a lovely sea view!
Room was great. Only negative feedback was found the bed quite firm and my back hurt a bit next day! There was also a noisy dog staying in a room down the same corridor- maybe just have the dog friendly rooms nowhere near others. Apart from that, great spot and stay!

Very very dirty, toilet seat was full of blood and faeces, carpet was filthy and full of rubbish, stopped before and that was the same but thought we'd give it one more chance, not again, it doesn't hurt to clean up and wash the toilet seat which by the way didn't even fit. Room 239 is just disgusting.

We stayed at The Grand Hotel over Valentine’s weekend. The building itself is beautiful and full of character. Some areas appear to have been renovated to a good standard, but unfortunately other parts are in serious need of attention.
We were allocated a basement room with no natural light whatsoever. The room felt dark, dated, and poorly maintained. It was not particularly clean, and the overall condition was very tired. The mattresses were old and uncomfortable, which made for a disappointing night’s sleep.
It was also freezing, with noticeable drafts throughout the room and corridors. As soon as you entered the corridor, there was a strong, unpleasant smell that immediately set a poor impression.
We asked if we could move rooms and were even willing to pay extra, but despite being told someone would call us back, we never heard anything further. We also requested an additional pillow — a very basic request — and were met with laughter at reception and the comment, “Do you realise how busy we are?” This response felt dismissive and unprofessional.
Overall, while the building has great potential and some charming features, the room quality and customer service significantly detracted from what should have been a special Valentine’s stay.

Although the rooms are slightly dated, I would still rate my overall experience very highly because the customer service truly stood out. From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive. They went out of their way to ensure I was comfortable and had everything I needed throughout my stay.

While the décor and furnishings could benefit from a refresh, the rooms were clean and well-maintained, which made for a comfortable visit. What really makes this hotel special is the team — their friendliness, professionalism, and willingness to help easily deserve a 5-star rating.

There was only one double socket in the room my partner has sleep apnoea so uses a breathing machine the single bed was closest to the socket then a double bed. You couldn't walk straight in the room you had to turn sideways to get anywhere

Checking in was a nightmare - no sign postage to say one of the queues was for coach check ins only, 45 minutes we were waiting. We were then given what they described as a premier room, only to find stains on the mattress, dried blood on the sheets and other stains on the mattress protector, there was also marks on the radiator and what looked like vomit on the lamp base, mould on the windows, mould round the shower and the room smelt awful. We went and complained and they \"upgraded\" us to a room on the floor above, however the experience wasnt much better, we found hair in the bath tub, damp on the cieling and mould again on the window. The entire hotel smelt awful, dust was on every surface in bith rooms. We wont be returning.

No where to park. Even multi storey car park full. Couldn’t unload properly, no spaces. No towels in the room. The room had receipts on the floor from two days ago, it hadn’t been cleaned very well. The toilets down stairs were awful, smelly n cold. The staff are very friendly. Entertainment was very good. Good location. Was ok for the price .

We paid for a premium room, the one we got was very dated, run down, and not cleaned to a good standard at all. (Hairs in and on the bed and in and on the bathtuv) An opened coffee pod left on the side with the unused ones and an out of date apple crumble in the fridge! The room was also freezing cold but this was resolved by turning the radiator valve to fully on. We were very frustrated, especially after the images show the premium rooms have been updated, when we questioned this, we were told rooms are all different and \"quirky\" and room allocation was first come first served even though, we did online check in days earlier.

The door lock... Here's a fun one, the doors are using a really old latching lock which, due to how much the door could move when closed, could be opened using the do not disturb door handle cards from the outside. It was not possible to deadlock the door from the inside or double lock it when leaving. We paid extra for a new year's eve 3 course carvery meal and entertainment, we were served a very low quality buffet (slushy meatballs, chicken thighs, frozen battered fish slabs and a miserable salad bar) no drinks served with the meal.

We decided, enough was enough due to multiple failings and false advertisements and demanded a full refund. We are still waiting for the refund but it's only been a day.

I would not recommend this hotel. yes, it's a beautiful building but, it's clear that the management company are operating on a shoe string budget.

Not able to get a coffee on first day because there was only 14 of us in the hotel they didny open the bar , breakfast the next morning was cold and the bacon looked like it was saved from the day before and reheated . Reported our bathroom door was faulty took 4 days to get it sorted , No entertainment on the first night , just a film on , can watch a film in our room , was told we could get a coffed in our room , i said i dont want to be in my room 24/7. It was cold in the restaurant people were eating with their coats on , food still no warmer , paid for christmas lunch extra , we got turkey , frozen roast potatoes , stuffing , pigs in blankets , frozen parsnips , frozen russels and again it was cold , The complaints just fell o draf ears and then to top it all off they charged us twice for holiday . Definately wont be going back again , the grand hotel , they need to rename it .

We had two rooms - in one the hot tap was full on fast-running all night, steamy windows! The second had a very hot radiator that couldn't be turned down or off. The energy bills must be enormous - I had to sleep on top of the bed (windows don't open).
The bar was also too small and had a huge queue. And they overcharged me

Having an initial issue with our allocated room on arrival we were quickly moved to another without any fuss. All the staff were lovely and although there are some areas inside and outside the hotel in need of renovating/updating it did not bother us on a whole. But...Our major problem were the lifts, they were either out of order or took as long as almost 30mins for my partner to get in. We were on 5th floor and due to him having a history of heart attacks and COPD using the stairs was a definite no for him. One area that would benefit massively from updating

The room was so poor we had to leave. And did not even stay the night.
When walking into bathroom felt like we might fall through.
The walls were covered in stains and who knows what. The beds were shabby matress covers were scratched.
What appears to be a pet friendly hotel is that when they find out you have a pet they move you to these rooms.
When handing key back got no offer of a refund.
Also another couple with a pet also did same as us.

We were given the option on check in of a lower or higher floor room, we chose the higher floor & were pleasantly surprised to find out we were in one of the turret bedrooms which had a unique & gorgeous sea view.
However, we were slightly disappointed by the cleanliness & state of the room. Curtains were gaping making it look untidy & annoying when on our first 2 nights a flashing light on the roof was coming directly into our bedroom through the gaps in the curtain that woke me several times. Plug sockets were only on one side of the room leading to having to move the kettle & a bedside lamp so we were actually able to use them. Also, when the neighbouring room used their bathroom an horrendous would then come up through our plug holes, which also woke us. Overall, the room looked very tired, none of the furniture matched & all very old. This room has so much potential if cared for properly. Along with the view some other good points was a comfortable bed & well managed temperature.

Breakfast time was well managed, staff worked very hard to ensure a good turnover of guests arriving & leaving. Food was of average standard & choice but with good supply. However, suspect the apple juice is watered down.

We enjoyed the evening entertainment of bingo & show on the Saturday night. Staff running these evenings & the bar staff are all very professional & friendly.

Reception staff also professional & friendly. Just more local knowledge would be helpful for recommendations.

I booked this hotel as it came up when I searched for hotels with pools in Scarborough. However this hotel does not have a pool much to our dismay… when we asked we were told we could walk up the road to their sister hotel and pay a surcharge to use their pool!! This was so disappointing as when I book a hotel with a pool it because I would like it to be in the same building, to use at my leisure and with no extra charges! So I had 2 very disappointed children.

The location was excellent however, right on the beach front with a path straight down from the hotel. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. The room was warm and comfortable and we were lucky enough to have an amazing sea view room!

The breakfast was average and slightly disappointing for such a grand hotel. The cold selection very limited and the cooked breakfast was very bland and tasteless.

Finally I booked a family room which was advertised on Hotels.com as having 4 beds but when we arrived there were only 3 plus a very small sofa which luckily my 7 year managed to squeeze on for the night!

Overall a pleasant but disappointing stay.

Beach view from room was stunning, but windows desperatley needed cleaning. Lots of tea and coffee which can easily be replenished at reception (staff were much better this time!) ; rooms aren't tidied unless you request it, which I really liked as you're not disturbed. Location is fantastic, over 100 steps down to the beach but there is a public lift for about £1:50 return, or a number 2 bus every hour which drops you outside the hotel from the sea-front. Lots of eating places plus banks/betting shops near by and a very, very good One Stop round the corner. Parking is a nightmare, beware that I saw a traffic warden handing out tickets early Saturday morning. Lift to lower floors (reception is floor 4) really poor/slow/only carries 3 people. Helps burn the calories though - over 80 steps to reception. Bathroom and shower were really good. Overall positives massively outweigh the negatives and love it here; come by train, burn those calories and enjoy the stunning views, beach/superb sea and the heart of Scarborough! Fantastic value in a place with real character thankyou!

Weather was okay however the hotel room needs revamping the ceiling was coming off and the windows were very dirty the bed was comfortable and the entertainment was good however the fire alarm went off at 3:30 in the morning for no apparent reason and then it went off again around 9:30am the staff were lovely and helpful but overall we spent as little time in our room as it was very small and didn’t live up to its pictures, the sights around Scarborough are lovely and fun though

Friendly staff greeting. We were upgraded and had an excellent sea view. Hotel is old and showing its age in places but for the money it was excellent value. Great location near to train station and local restaurants and pubs.

We couldn’t close the window in our room due to the handle being missing, but we had been given a sea view room when we’d ordered a standard double. The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable and the shower was great. Will definitely stay here again in the future

The hotel was clean. The beds were a bit soft, but that's always a personal preference. The hotel is definitely a grand old lady that despite being a bit \"tired\" is still quite regal. The restaurant on site was convenient and the view of the North Sea was fabulous. It is within walking distance of many sites on the Scarborough waterfront. I would definitely stay here again.

Not so Grand at The Grand

The millions spent on refurbishing definitely was not on the rooms, mine had several issues. No towel rail in the bathroom, missing handles on drawers, the Yale lock was loose and didn’t lock on inside, the TV had been moved and was positioned above the middle of the dresser and couldn’t fold back against the wall, so you hit your head on in when standing up, the room overall was all a bit sad.

We had a very good last minute weekend break, our room was clean and had everything we needed, Saturday morning we had breakfast that was OK but I didn’t like the atmosphere people having know manners at all, staff was friendly and couldn’t do enough for you so we was very happy with our weekend thank you

Great location on the cliff next to the Victorian tram. Check in took nearly 50 minutes. Not clear why, we were just queueing for a really long time. The hotel exterior looks fantastic, the lobby and most of the public areas are also really magnificent. This is the grandeur of the Victorian era. Sadly most of the rest of the hotel is stuck in the late 20th century. Lots of minor maintenance needed, and frankly a proper deep clean.
My room was quiet, comfortable, I loved the spa bath! I was less keen on the fact I could not lock the door from the inside (no deadbolt or chain, just a Yale lock with the locking lever removed...) There was plenty of hot water, my linen and towels were soft and clean. The whole room is very basic but for the price its perfect. My room was quiet, I slept great. my daughter was in a room at the other end of the corridor and commented on noise and not sleeping well.
There is no AC in the hotel, there is a electric fan in the room and the windows open a bit.
The staff in the hotel were all lovely. I think there are a lot of customers complaining a lot here and they do well to keep friendly and professional.
I would stay here again but my daughter said \"no way\"
