When I asked about late book out I was abruptly told if I wanted late I had to pay £20 when I asked if I could have lit book out with out pain I was told they don't do that after traveling around the world most hotels will give you an hour in my experience

We have stayed at the crown spa before and love the location. We had a sea view room which was a generous size with great view.
There were a few disappointments this time though.
The main one being that the bathroom had a smell to it (possibly coming from the drains) and if the door was left open the room its self smelt.
Also, on arrival there were a few bits of rubbish on the floor. A plastic rose petal and a chocolate wrapper. Other than this though the room was clean.
We informed reception about the smell in the bathroom on departure so hopefully this can be resolved for the next guests.
Although it was disappointing this time it would not put me off booking again.

Wouldn’t recommend this hotel nor visit again.
I suggest a spot visit by undercover compass decent person to realign your place. I’ll continue to email reviews until you call me back.

116room has lovely new decor but 114 looks tired with old traditional furniture in it which should be got rid of as it brings the whole feel of the room down and with the size of the room I think a bigger bed would make a good statement in there .. breakfast was ok but more seeds and fruit would be nice .

To whom this may concern,

I am writing to let you know of my experience whilst staying at your hotel and my concerns.

I booked a twin room and on entering the room the bed was a double which I had to go to reception and advise that this had not been done . The receptionist said she would get this sorted . Sometime later a young man came from the restaurant to make the bed up and he did say that the hotel is short staffed. This I thought was bad communication from the staff that the bed wasn't made up which I found it to be an inconvenience to myself and having to interrupt a member of staff in the restaurant.

The television was absolutely awful to watch as the signal was dreadful and I could see that people had been trying to move the aerial because of the marks on the wall .

Room service was absolutely terrible as I had to call down to get someone up to sort my room . The lady that arrived said she was running behind as she had 3 floors to do surely this is a staffing problem yet again .

Wanted to order cocktails on New Year's Eve however the girl behind the bar said the person that does them isn't in and she said that she didn't know how to do them nor the other people. It was New Year's Eve I couldn't believe that they were no staff member to attend to this . Yet again a staff problem.

The worst part of my stay was parking my car . I had paid for reserved parking. I had gone out on New Year's Eve and on my return to the car park all the spaces had been taken .

The hotel was nice, but needs improving in some areas. The room had nice fittings, but the bathroom window needed replacing.

The sauna and steam room area has a very \"seedy\" feeling, with almost no lighting meaning you risk sitting on someone. The sound of passionate kissing in the darkness when you're trying to relax is quite off-putting too! The pool was quite cold, and the hot-tub wasn't as hot as you'd expect.

The gym is very well equipped, although quite confusing due to how it's split across many rooms in the basement.

The shower needed urgent attention, going from freezing to burning your skin with a slight movement of the tap, it was impossible to get it to a comfortable temperature.

The buffet breakfast was well stocked, but a fairly poor quality.

As someone sensitive to caffeine, I get annoyed when I get directed to the cheap packets of instant next to the fancy bean to cup coffee machines in the breakfast area. I raised this feedback with reception who showed no interest whatsoever.

Room was very neglected, both room & bathroom windows wouldn't fully shut so constant noise & cold draughty room, bathroom door didn't fully close so not much privacy, we booked purely for the spa facilities as my partner is disabled so this would have been ideal but when we checked in we were told the spa facilities weren't available until the 2nd of Jan , we were very disappointed by this & weren't even in a position to cancel our stay because we would have lost our full payments, we did get complimentary breakfasts but the food was so greasy & bacon was so fatty , over cooked infact it was that bad its debatable if it was fit for human consumption, the prices they charged us i think it was a very poor situation, we complained on our way out to reception but weve not had any communication from the management, on a plus the staff tried their best.

Exceptionally poor stay at a place we’d stayed at several times before. The room was tired to the point it shouldn’t even be given to guests in its current state. Upon attempting to check in there were two staff members talking amongst themselves meaning we were stood with heavy bags for several minutes until they wrapped up their conversation. When discussing parking the receptionist didn’t know whether there would be an attendant checking or not so I decided to be safe and immediately put the disc in the car. The parking disc used to be adequate but you now also need to pay £5 for two days parking however it didn’t even cover 48 hours. Got to the room and upon opening the drawers there was a half eaten pizza in one of them. I went down to reception to give them the food remnants and inform them of this and was told sorry housekeeping must have missed it. I was really surprised considering it was the same person we had just checked in with 5 minutes previously did not offer any kind of gesture of apology. There were brown stains on the ceiling from previous leakage, the wallpaper was peeling, the tv did not work on several channels and the room above us were talking at such a volume it was practically shouting until gone midnight. The extractor fan in the bathroom was thick with dust and when wiping up water from the bathroom floor the towel turned brown.

We had no heating for three hours, the fridge had not been emptied from previous guests, the kettle still had water in it. We booked this hotel for the pool it was closed because it was New Year’s Day . The hot chocolate was cold from the bar will not be staying again. We never even got a free drink for the pool closed. Management need a shake up !

Our room was very tired and shabby with efforts made to modernise but not done sympathetically with the beautiful building. The bed didn’t fit the space of the headboard and had a gap between it and the wall that the pillows drop down. Also 2 beds joined together which is uncomfortable with a ridge down the middle, a straight forward double bed would solve all of those issues.
Our room was directly above the lobby and unfortunately we were woken before 6am both mornings by the staff moving furniture and having loud conversations.
Breakfast was poor quality with cheap cash and carry eggs, bread, juice and sausage, we didn’t feel it was value for money.
The staff were very friendly and the spa made up for the overall tiredness of the decor but it would be nice to see a modern but traditional refurbishment of the hotel annd perhaps more local sourcing of produce and we would happily return.

Spa facilities were complimentary which was good and as it should be. Comprised two sauna. One steam room, one ice room, swimming pool, lots of gym kit.
Breakfast was buffet style with a good full English and other options.

Not as advertised 4 star hotel this is just scraping a 3 star. First night went for meal and cocktails. Filthy cutlery was first alert then when we asked for cocktails said they didn’t have any pineapple juice or many cocktail ingredients so we gave food a miss. Window locks missing. Curtains fell off. No little bottles of toiletries etc as advertised. Overall very disappointed.

The variety of food at breakfast was excellent but the temperatures of the buffet breakfast was not so good, cold eggs, mushrooms and hash browns. V.pleased with the room size/clean etc. The spa facilities were v.good although some areas are looking a little tired and in need of a spruce up. All the staff were v.nice and v.helpful. The toilets on the ground floor behind reception had dirty floors and dirty tiled walls.

The check-in was fine at first. Room was nice. The problems started in the morning waiting for the shower to warm up, finally gave up and settled for a cold shower. We went to reception to report the problem only to find out the newt there was a problem as the boiler for the 5th had broken down earlier in the week \" No mention of this at check-in \" We asked if it was being repaired and was told not, asked what the alternatives were and basically told that nothing could be done.

Lack of choice at the bar (2 white wines).
Beautiful room but no need for the multi coloured LED lighting, made it feel like an Indian restaurant.
External decoration needed.
Some staff attentive, others more interested in singing along to the loud rap music played in the lounge!

We had a lovely large room with a sea view. The location and views are wonderful. We have visted this hotel several times over many years and were sad to see the deterioration in the dining areas. We paid for breakfast for 2 days but cut our losses and went elsewhere the 2nd day. The breakfast area is like a service station cafe. This is not 4 star. Luke warm buffet food, tea in a mug from a machine and a horrible room. Dining in the evening we had a reasonable meal but no sauvignon blanc and we were told the only option had been chardonnay for some time due to supplier failure. Sad to see the decline in a wonderful hotel. We hope some investment and refurbishment is upcoming. On a positive the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful.

Efficient and friendly check in. Staff very courteous and helpful. Our room was a little tired and old fashioned but clean and comfortable. Bathroom facilities very good. Breakfast buffet food was not particularly hot. I suspect the food server heater was inadequate. Evening meal was excellent, again lovely staff and very reasonable prices. The pool and spa is really superb and well worth using. It's the biggest jacuzzi we've ever seen! Overall a very pleasurable stay.

Overall good but one or two minor issues that the quality B&B's in Scarborough do better than this 4 star. Such as quality of breakfast service table service, not buffet and bottled sauces and not sachets difficult or impossible to open & biscuits in room. Rainfall shower with no separate hand shower over bath not suitable with inadequate water pressure to wash off soap. Window in room not able to fully close so wind noise substantial at times. The only 4-star thing about the hotel is the view, and that is spoiled by the dirty windows.
I had booked a sea view room which was marred by the dirty windows.
The tea/ coffee maker in each room is a kettle and packs of instant coffee and a few tea bags with the tiny biscuits. This all smacks of meanness rather than 4*. I remember when each room had a cafetiere and ground coffee packs and Yorkshire biscuits. You would get a better selection in a half decent B&B.
The room was clean and a reasonable size but a bit worn. It’s such a pity they don’t get the windows cleaned outside.
My bathroom bin wasn’t emptied after the first night.
My mugs were not cleaned properly, twice (I had complained at reception both times)
Biscuits weren’t replaced.
No proper chef on for my first night so it was just a bar menu. Water glasses were the school glasses type and black pepper was in a pot, and I don’t think they knew what a pepper grinder was (is this 4* dining???)
I was charged for a meal I hadn’t had at check out (it was sorted but not good enough).
I tried to run a bath one night and the water was luke-warm. I asked for it to be sorted and the shower was nearly scalding the next morning.
I was told at reception there was an option of a buffet breakfast – there wasn’t!
It’s a pity it is so corporate and nothing is included in the décor or amenities that are local.
The staff were a mix of absolutely lovely and helpful and completely useless.
All in all, a disappointment and not 4 star

The bedroom was poor. WIndows dirty pillow cases put on inside out mirror smeared toiletries cannister broken, bed had hole in it and looked as though a dog had pulled it, black marks all over the wall. We were only given one key for room despite
being 2 of us.. Eventually we got 2 keys but you would have thought we had asked for the earth.The hotel was not worth what we paid for it.and is probably 1 srar at most and not the advertised 4 stars

The Hotel decor is tired and most areas including the rooms could do with a deep clean.
The most disappointing part of our stay was the whole of the breakfast experience. The food when available was good and tasty however the self service area was constantly out of food and when we asked the staff we were told they were unable to restock due to inadequate supplies. Also the tables were not what we would have expected having paid a premium rate for B&B, they were all very sticky, when we pointed out this to the staff on duty, we were advised that they were waiting for the tables to be re surfaced! on two morning of our stay none of the used plates etc. were moved from the table. We also observed an obvious shortage of staff, who clearly could not cope under the pressure!

We had a 1 night stay at this hotel in August. We couldn't check in until 3pm and when we did come back, there was quite a wait to check in. This could be managed better. Reception did give us a scratchcard to put on the car for parking at the front, which costs £5 for 2 days. The hotel is a lovely building, but is quite dated and needs upgrading. Our room floor, dipped down towards the bathroom. The location is ok, but you will struggle to walk down and back up to the town due to the steep hill. The spa was available to use at anytime. They had a good range of facilities, but again are quite dated and need upgrading. If this was a cheap break, I would have scored it higher than ok, but have stayed in better hotels for the price we paid.

An average hotel needs a little bit of love

The reception area of the hotel is smart and a pleasure to lounge in. Our room felt quite basic and small. We’d paid for a sea view but you couldn’t see much of the sea as the window was so grubby.
The main light switch didn’t work, the card holder for the lights fell off, one curtain was almost hanging off, the toilet made an awful ear piercing sound after flushing and everything just felt a little tired and old.
However, the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was ok.
Staff were really friendly.
An average stay but we would have been better in a premier inn 😬

I booked a room with a balcony. When I checked in I was informed that I could not access the balcony due to health and safety. I couldn't even open the balcony door more than an inch as they had attached a safety latch. I asked for a partial refund which was not granted. I wrote to the GM of the hotel and never got a reply.
The hotel and spa facilities are tired and very old fashioned, and the breakfast is rather sad. The bar staff was very inefficient and the service in the restaurant very slow.
I would not recommend this hotel to anybody.

A wonderful hotel, but far too hot!!

This is a wonderful hotel with fantastic rooms, excellent spa and restaurant facilities and lovely staff. However, our room, 501 was far too hot. Fans were provided but this didnt fully resolve the problem and we had a very uncomfortable night's sleep and tried to minimise the time we spent in the room. We reported this to reception and disappointingly, a lack of care was shown and no effort was made to compensate this.

Room was more dated than imagined, there is a sigh to say who cleaned your room - the cups were dirty on the service tray
I had a single room, the bed was big and comfy, the bath was huge and great to have ambient lighting
It was red hot but there wasn’t any AC or a fan available
The recieptionist who checked me if was exceptional (around 7pm on Saturday 9th August)
Disappointed that the swimming pool etc closed early on a Saturday, the only night I stayed

The hotel is in a wonderful location and has wonderful views. It’s very clean and all the staff are very friendly and professional.

Facilities were very tired, room was very warm, carpet needs to be replaced. Pool hours are limited for children. Arrived at 6pm and was told children hours were over. Not family friendly.

The Crown Hotel Scarborough - Superior Twin Room

This was easily one of the most disappointing hotel stays I’ve ever experienced — a far cry from the 4* experience advertised. The hotel is outdated and clearly hasn’t been renovated in years.

The online photos are incredibly misleading, showing fresh, modern rooms that look nothing like what we were given.

Our “superior” twin room looked tired and worn. It had food remnants by the bed, suggesting it hadn’t been properly cleaned, and it appeared someone had been sitting on the bed when we arrived. The room had been set up as a double despite us booking a twin — we had to request housekeeping to separate the beds after check-in.

The bathroom was just as poor: the shower controls were literally hanging off the wall, exposing internal piping, which felt unsafe and unkempt.

We also visited the on-site spa, which was advertised as a “serenity retreat.” In reality, it felt more like a dated community leisure centre.

The pool was cold, the hot tub barely warm, the steam room wasn’t steaming, and the sauna didn’t reach a proper temperature. Treatments were disappointing too.

Breakfast the next morning was frankly appalling. The hot food was rubbery & the “fresh” fruit clearly tinned.

We were originally going to dine in the hotel the night before — thank goodness we didn’t.
Even our taxi driver warned us not to eat there and confirmed the hotel has significantly declined since COVID.

Definitely wouldn’t stay here again or recommend. It might have been #1 before but not now!

Like so many hotels in British resorts, it suffers from having been there a long time. However the staff and location more than make up for that. From queries before check in and throughout our stay all the staff, whatever position they held, were exceptional.Beds were super comfortable. Always lot water. Food was fine. So easy to get down to the spa or into town

We have stayed here a few years ago, so booked a return visit with no doubts.
However, when checking in there was no record of us paying for breakfast, so had to prove what I booked our room with breakfast included.
The spa, was ok, but seems to have lost some of its appeal. ( conversation in sauna between 2 local members discussing manufacturing drugs etc)
Bar service was very slow and understaffed, we returned from an event which many other guests had been. ,but only 1 guy on the bar .
The breakfast experience was a big disappointment. No fresh coffee, only a machine.
The breakfast buffet arrived from kitchen on a trolley, but no food was covered.
We paid over £200 for our room and feel very let down, I will not return .

A tired hotel

Rooms available but we were not allowed access till 3 which was difficult because we had travelled a long journey and had to change to meet friends for lunch. Breakfast was not 4 star. Tinned fruit and plastic pots of jam are way below standard. Room was much too hot even with windows open. Choice of beer in bar poor

Very expensive fo a room for 3 adults which had a small extra bed in, not enough towels or hot drink facilities etc. for 3 adults.
Took a deposit from my account which I am still waiting to be refunded 5 days on. A dated hotel, not worth £200 (not including breakfast).
