Check in process with staff was excellent and fast. We managed to check in an hour early. Room was elegant and clean. Bathroom was good (had shower in the middle between sink and toilet). Lots of stores and fast food near by.

We had an overall good stay at Generaator Sofia Hotel. It was exactly as advertised and sufficient for a couple nights stay. The beds were small but comfortable, and the shower door leaks into the room (be careful not to have your bags by the shower door) but we put towels down and there is a sign. Staff were friendly and the check in instructions in the evening were very easy to follow. Was a great trip in Sofia.

The front desk was nice. Bathroom was not ideal because shower made the toilet wet and it became slippery. Also a bit out dated. Thought it was nice for Bulgaria until I spent 3 nights at a hotel closer to city center for a cheaper price.

Works but would not stay again. Close to everything with a 20 minute walk to the main shopping street, and public transit stop right outside.

Just felt a little dirty and outdated. staff was very friendly though, but not 24 hour staff on duty.

they also came to clean the room when I did not request it and wish I knew because i left valuables out. They were still there when I got back but still I didnt like it because it didnt need to be cleaned.

Quiet yet close to most of the attractions. Also easy access to bus central station to Plovdiv and central train station to catch a night train from Sofia to Istanbul. Across the road there is a local supermarket to buy budget hot meal and fresh food. Just perfect for all my needs.

You get what you pay for. Super central, has everything in it but it’s a rundown hotel. I stayed for 2 nights and while it wasn’t too bad, it wasn’t great either. The reception and the hotel were very communicative and responsive. The walls were so thin that one night I was trying to snooze, I could hear the people talking outside, it’s as if we were in the same room. I didn’t like that the bathroom was motion-sensored - how many times the lights have turned off just because I wasn’t doing anything apart from relieving myself (pardon me). All in all, an okay stay. As I’ve said, you get what you pay for.

For the price I expect basic.
I did not expect a foul smell on the bathroom, and no staff to notify given reception hours are only 10-6. I did not expect no shower gel. Oddly a kettle was provided and mugs but no spoons.

Considerations:
no shower gel, no tea and coffee.
Loud street noise and my room also backed onto a courtyard which has loud noise from people and also the way the rain hit the surfaces was very loud so that woke me up too.

I needed to make a reservation for one night at very short notice and ended up staying at the Generaator. It turned out to be a lucky find. The immediate surroundings of the hotel were not great, but once inside everything was fresh and bright.The room was very clean and seemed to have been redecorated fairly recently.

One of the other things I appreciated was the shower having a proper little wall at the base to prevent water from filling the rest of the bathroom. I found the bed comfortable as I prefer a firm matress. It was also great to have a smart TV that allowed me to watch one of the 24 hour news channels on YouTube.

I would also like to thank the very helpful and welcoming member of staff who dealt with me and allowed me to check in earlier and helped me with a note to explain I needed to change a ticket.

Personally I think this would be a particularly good place to stay if you had a flight, train or bus the next day. It is close enough to the main station and central bus station and right next to a convenient metro stop. Equally, it would also provide a convenient base in the centre of Sofia for a longer visit.

Wrong images of the room, spiders, stains on bed

There were so many problems with this room.

1. First of all, the bed sheet was not clean, there were some stains.

2. There were spiders in the room

3. The window blind was on the floor.

4. During the stay, there were no people at the desk, so we couldn't even complain.

5. During checkout, there was a woman, who barely spoke English, so she didn't answer our questions.

6. Photos of the room are done for another room. For example, there was no window at all in our bedroom, even though there is a window in the bedroom on the photos.

7. There is an unfair price for a late (after 00:00) check-in. I mean, we paid for the whole night, but then were asked to pay 20BGN (~10 euro) on top of it. There was nobody to help us checking during the night, it was a key box, so I don't understand why there is such a fee.

8. There is a bad smell when you go to your room.

9. The location of this place is really good, though there are some hostels around and the streets are dirty.

You get charged for checking-in after midnight - the first time I was charged of this ever! They made the check-in instruction seem complicated but it's straightforward. You get to hear your neighbours and even the steps from the next room. The toilet light do not have a very smart motion sensor as it keeps turning off when you're sitting or even bending. There was even spider in the room. They will not clean your room until you tell them to. Location is pretty good though. I have to say that this is one of the worst hotels I've stayed in Europe.

For a budget hotel I was very pleased with the Generaator. The rooms were very clean. The bed was quite comfortable. It was located about a 10 minute walk straight down the street to the main tourist area. It is very close to bus and metro stops. There were two grocery stores within a 5 minute walk. It’s very close to the Women’s Market (kind of a farmers market). My room was in the back building and it was very quiet. There is a money exchange right next door as well as a pizza shop. Probably the most surprising thing about the Generaator was how good the air conditioning was. It was perhaps the best AC I’ve ever experienced in a European hotel. When I was in Sofia the temps were in the low 90’s and you have no idea how nice it was to come back to a nice cool room.
Negatives- a lot of the lights on the property run on motion detectors, including the light in the bathroom. So when you are sitting on the toilet the light keeps turning off. Because there is a bus/train stop right in front of the hotel there are usually a number of people out in front of it. The main desk is only attended 10-7.
If I was coming back to Sofia, I would definitely consider staying at the Generaator again.

Neighborhood is not safe. There are drunk people sitting next to hotels entrance.
Bed is not comfortable at all! For some reason shower and the sink are together and it is impossible to take a shower. Hotel tried to charge us extra for late check-in even though no such fee on hotels policy.

Good value for what it is

Mixed feelings about this place, but overall it turned out better than expected.

The location is good, not too far of a walk to the main city centre.

The staff were helpful and friendly, but I would advise anyone arriving to check your room thoroughly before taking it. The room seemed to have a lot of dust on the floor but I assumed the light was just highlighting it. I had unpacked half our stuff before I checked the bathroom properly to find a dirty toilet, bottles under the bed and skirting board hanging off the wall in multiple places (one of which revealed a large dead cockroach when I tried to push it back on to the wall!

We were very lucky there was another room available that had been cleaned, as I don't think the cleaner is around much. We stayed for four nights and it was only on the very last night that we had our towels and bedsheets changed, which seemed a little pointless when we were leaving the next day. Maybe this would be better mid way through a stay? We also very nearly ran out of toilet paper, which is one thing I would expect a cleaner to quickly check on each day, and to empty the bins should they need it.

Overall I think the rooms are good value for money, but think the cleaning service just needs to be a little more efficient for the arriving guests!

Stayed here for two nights, either end of a trip round Bulgaria, arrived very late both times and this wasn't a problem. The man working on reception was really helpful and friendly and spoke great English. No problem to leave our luggage their. The hotel's in a great location, on a main road easy walk straight into the centre. There's a tram stop directly outside the front door and it's close to the train station and bus station - there's even a late night pizza shop a couple doors up where we got slices for 40p at 1am! The rooms are modern and clean and the WiFi is good! Bathrooms are wetrooms and our first room was pretty small with the shower over the sink, but it just added to the charm :) Would highly recommend for location, price, service and style/cleanliness of the rooms

I spent two weeks in this hotel. The staff is extremely nice and warm. You feel welcomed, and their care is sincere. What a wonderful introduction to Bulgaria. The place is clean and comfortable, hot water, AC, all new and perfct. The location is fantastic. Two mins walk from the supermarket, two big cafes nearby, and the main city center is literally within 10 mins walk. I strongly recommend this place!!

I absolutely loved my 11 day stay

I absolutely loved this place. I stayed for 11 nights as a solo female traveller. The place is very clean and safe. I had a complimentary upgrade to a Deluxe room with it’s own private garden which was lovely. The property is newly renovated and boasts 2 air conditioning units, a fridge and a very comfortable bed. The city centre is just a 10 min walk and there is a supermarket and a coffee shop around the corner. The hotel owner is very friendly and kind. Would definitely stay again if I returned to Sofia and highly recommend.

This is not actually a hotel. It’s a repurposed building where the spaces were sliced up into tiny individual rooms. The bathrooms in particular are completely horrendous. You turn on water in the sink and get the shower hose sprinkle you from the top.

Bathroom was spacious and clean (could do with a few more hooks/shelves. Hotel is well located. Although not in the city centre, it has a tram stop right outside as well as a metro on the corner. Central station is a 10minute walk, as well as access via tram or metro. Lots of cafes nearby (in particular Cafe 1920). WiFi in the room was excellent. Hotel location is a bit obscure, but put your trust in Google Maps to locate it. Overall we enjoyed our stay in Generaator Hotel. Would stay again and recommend to others.

Ideal short stay hotel

The Generaator Hotel is ideal for a short stay in Sofia. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and very quiet with blackout curtains. We didn't hear a sound from outside at night time, and the rainfall shower was smashing with very hot water. Ideally located rite next to the Metro (Levev Most) but its also just a pleasant 10-15 minute walk to the city centre. You will find everything you need close to The Generaator. I would recommend this hotel to my family and friends.

Incredible Hidden GEM-eraator !

The Generaator Sofia Hotel was an incredible find and I highly recommend the establishment. The hotel was conveniently located, safe, clean, and relaxing. The property is located at Lion's Bridge right next to all major public transportation. One would expect such an ideal transportation hub to be noisy but the hotel is nestled behind solid walls and offers a relaxing and tranquil setting in the courtyard and rooms. The rooms are spacious, clean, appropriately furnished and bathroom was clean with abundantly flowing water and drainage. The internet connection was exceptional and afforded the ability to conduct video (WEBEX) meetings, web browsing, and VOIP telephone calling. The staff was incredible as well; fluent in English, friendly, and attentive. This property is an incredible find and value for those visiting as tourist or traveling on business. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this establishment. Thank you for such a wonderful stay in Sofia and I look forward to returning again.

Very quiet, recently renovated. Room is a little tight for two people. Furniture is sparse and lighting is \"industrial\". The toilet and sink are in the shower stall. Remember to remove the toilet paper before taking a shower. Water supply is good and the shower is really nice. The door on the street is locked; you have to push the button that is covered in plastic to contact the staff who are busy working on renovation jobs.

프런트 직원이 너무 친절해서 편안한 마음으로 머물다 갑니다. 언어소통에 문제가 있음에도 열린 마음으로 다가와서 도움을 주었어요. 지하철역과 가깝고 길건너에 바로 편의점도 있고 숙소에 공용휴식 공간도 있고 여러가지로 마음에 들어요. 추천합니다.

Posizione dell'hotel vicino al centro, raggiungibile in 10 min a piedi o con i mezzi. Lo staff è educato, nulla da dire sulla pulizia della camera. Letto non particolarmente comodo e un po datato. Insonorizzazione della camera non perfetta. Per il prezzo delle due notti va più che bene.

The Hotel is nice, have also a internal patio where is possible enjoy and get relax quite silence. The area have cafe and grossery shops, the problem is the night that the area get full of unpleasant people, such as prostitute and more

Questo hotel sta invecchiando male.

È la seconda volta che soggiorno in questo hotel dopo un numero di anni. Sono ritornato grazie al soggiorno molto piacevole precedente. Questa volta invece le cose sono andate meno bene. La signora del check-in molto disponibile, ma il letto era un disastro. Erano due letti piccoli messi insieme con un topper che era più piccolo dei due letti, quindi si staccava in continuazione. C'erano bicchieri e bollitore ma null'altro... Peccato...

Rigtig fint hotel til prisen. I gåafstand fra togstationen, og cirka 20-25 minutters gang de fleste steder. Rigtig god service. Hotellet var meget fleksible i forhold til at få arrangeret en ekstra opredning. Hurtige til at svare på mails. Alt i alt en rigtig fin oplevelse :)
