Room 209 Toilet lid was loose. Positioning of toilet roll holders bad. Need to be a contortionist to access. Shower gel recess 1M from shower in opposite wall!! No yogurt with breakfast fruit. No foot stool in shower recess for elderly people. TV turned itself on at 3AM. Need cushions on lounge to rest head against while watching TV. Spout on bathroom sink so long it is impossible to wash your face. Nowhere to put soap after getting it out of the box except on bench top making it all wet and slippery. Only one suitcase stand. We travel with two small suitcases.

We arrived late and the staff were a wonderful help. The hotel is very modern and clean and located along the harbour with a great boardwalk to stretch the legs after a long drive. The kids enjoyed Cold Rock ice cream a 5 min max stroll from the hotel. We grabbed some Thai takeaway too but could easily have opted for something on the room service menu. The pool has a great slide for the kids and a small playground. A short drive up the road/20 minute walk and you’re at Newcastle Beach with the amazing ocean baths. There is a beautiful scenic walk along the coast with a kiosk right on the beach selling food and coffee. Wish we had more time to explore but we were only stopping over for the night. Super comfy bed and pillows.

View from room was excellent. Spent some time in pool area which was strewn with wet towels everywhere left by lazy guests, but no staff collected for hours. QR code went down by pool so had to walk in to bar and proceeded to be chastised by bar manager for not having shoes on. When questioned on the no QR was told “ not my responsibility “. No apology and made to feel like I was committing a crime.

Sofa bed (for child) felt very old, mattress lumpy, not a good night sleep. Kitchen closed before 8pm (seems early to me for a hotel) and room service only had 1 food item available, not great when you not getting back to hotel until that time. Overall, expected more and a little bit disappointed with the stay overall, it’s not inexpensive. Think I would look for another option if staying in Newcastle again.

Why is the room very cold? It’s like staying in top of the snowy mountain. My allergies got worse here non-stop, couldn’t handle it nor sleep from constant car noise from city. Not sound proof. Felt gross seeing bugs, and they don’t have any vending machine so no ideal chips can be access. No water fountain or water bubble is accessible here either. I don’t like drinking Franklin water. I’d appreciate a refund.

The location was fantastic. Overall, the room was clean & presented well with everything you needed in it. We did, however, have to change rooms because our first room had an LED light in the bathroom that needed replacing as it was flickering constantly (Room 030). It was also disappointing that our bathroom did not have a walk in shower. When we inquired as to how many of the rooms had walk in showers, we were told that only 6 out of about 170 rooms had a walk in shower. We own a Central Coast coach company & were interested in bringing a group of up to 28 people up to Newcastle for a 2-3 night tour. However, as our clientele are Seniors, we would not be able to stay at Rydges Newcastle due to their bathrooms being dated & unsafe for our clientele. We are hoping that they spend the money to update their bathrooms so that they are more accessible for everyone in the near future.

I love the location. It's near the beautiful harbour, so we had breakfast overlooking it, and we are next to the Newcastle Museum. We went on a long Easter weekend, and it was rainy, but there were plenty of dining options, and it was easy to walk to the CBD. Our boys enjoyed the pool, and I also used their business centre to do some work.
