A good budget hotel choice

We stayed in this apart-hotel three night in September. Location was great ( tram B connected you with the most interesting parts of the city); laundry and groceries store are 5 minutes walk. Front desk staff at the hotel were fantastic , helpful and polite. The only thing I wish that mattress and pillow would be not so firm. I will recommend this hotel for people who want to stay in relatively good area but not to spend much money for accommodation..

My room here is modern, small but efficient well-designed. There’s a place for everything without it being in your way. The bed is comfortable and the tub deep enough to soak in. The windows are tall enough that I can have the drapes open, but i’m not visible from the neck down. Actually, my windows aren’t visible to anyone at all. It looks and feels well maintained not patched and caulked together to hide stuff that’s falling apart. The front desk staff are very friendly and speak English well. this hotel Is within easy walking distance of mini cafés, restaurants, and basic shops and amenities that travelers Usually want access to.

It was a good location. Tram is very close and it connects with all main sightseeing in Bordeaux. It was easy to change the tram B to another tram A (stop at Hotel de Ville ) and get to the airport directly.

Clean enough. Pretty basic however you don't need much more if you're out and about most of the time and it was much cheaper than other places in the area. Beds were fine, however the sofa bed was very squeaky and not the most comfortable. Staff were really nice and very accommodating. We had an issue with our room that they couldn't fix quickly so they moved us to another room which was good. Great area, only 5 minute walk from the river front with lots of shopping and restaurants. 5 minute walk from Rue Notre Dame with lots of shopping, cafes, restaurants, etc. 5 minute walk from a couple of tram stops. I would recommend getting a tram pass. We got a 3 day tram pass for 12 Euros and definitely got our moneys worth. All in all we had a lovely 3 night stay. Lots of things to do and see in Bordeaux. We will return!

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights while in Bordeaux, The room had a bed, well equipped kitchenette, and desk and two chairs, as well as a bathroom with bath and shower. It was clean however slightly run down. Perhaps was a student hostel at some point? An armchair would have been nice. The view was fine out into an internal courtyard with nice trees. The heater was good too. Overall it was a cheaper place to stay than many in Bordeaux but pretty basic. There was free street parking in the area or you could pay to park in the building.

While the unit was clean in the bedroom, washroom and sitting area, there is much room for improvement. It is really outdated and the bed had a plastic sheet under the cotton sheet which made it really hot. And to add to it they suggest you don’t open the window in the bedroom for security reasons. Reception folks were very helpful. It’s a block away from the waterfront so it’s perfect if your River cruising. Considering how small this unit and the cost I wouldn’t likely stay there again.

Very functional set up both inside and outside the room. Positives - Member of staff who checked us in was really friendly and helpful, the bed was really comfortable and there was a lot of space upstairs in the bedroom ( we were in a family apartment with a sofa bed). Location is also good, about a 13
Minute walk to the centre. Negatives - the rooms have certainly been well used since decorated, access to the room is via outdoor corridor and parking in the car park is an additional 12 Euro

Good hotel for a last minute booking

We booked this hotel last minute because it was over 100 degrees in Bordeaux and the airbnb we were staying in didn’t have air conditioning. The hotel and room were well worn and could use some freshening up, but the staff was very friendly and helpful and the bed was comfortable- and the air conditioning was amazing.

Close to the banks of the Dordogne with its promenade (Markets, skate board park, jogging, river cruises etc. etc.), and handy for a tour of the old town. Take a bendy tram or bus to the City centre for magnificent old buildings.
The suites in the property are equipped with microwave, cutlery, crockery - everything for a short stay, including masses of free parking space - well worth leaving the car and using public transport.

Whilst a little out of the town centre it was only a few minutes walk to the tram and buses and close to,some bars and cafes and a few minutes walk from the river. The staff were very helpful and welcoming and the room was quite spacious with a useful kitchenette area. The room was clean and the shower was quite powerful. Considering the pirice I paid it was very good value for money and I would certainly stay there again.

There are many nice restaurants in the neighbourhood.
The neighbourhood is nice and quiet. There is a school close to the apartment but I didn’t hear any noise as long as windows are shut.

Do not arrive after 21:00.

The hotel was fine once we were able to check in. The problem was when we arrived there was no-one on reception and the email we were supposed to receive telling us how to check in had not arrived. The help number on the front door connected us to someone in Strasbourg who gave us a number of codes for the front door and the safe none of which worked. He was then not able to contact anyone local so his only advice was to book in to another hotel and come back the next day. Not what you want to hear at midnight in a city you don't know very well in an area not generously endowed with hotels... The next day there were apologies and admissions of responsibility but no refund or help toward the cost of our night at another hotel. Indeed all we were offered was a breakfast each the next day, a total of 15 euros. which considering we were lucky to find a hotel for 55 euros was hardly generous. Once we checked in everything was as expected but for obvious reasons we will not be back at the city residence and would not recommend it to anyone else.

If you decide to open window make sure to close it early evening or you will get eaten up by mosquitoes:( House keeping cleans after your stay. WiFi service is vey bad. Good budget apartment-hotel in Bordeaux

This was a good choice for me, easily reachable by tram (one change of line required) from Gare St Jean, plus a 10 minute walk from Chartrons tram stop (B line tram). Comfy living room, upstairs loft bedroom (extremely firm mattress however - the only drawback), kitchenette well equipped, decent bathroom, & good air-conditioning. My room at the furthest end of the 3rd floor hallway was very quiet at night too. Buffet breakfast was €7 extra, basic continental style offerings. Reception staff helpful, let me check in early once room available, & free wifi worked well in room as well as lobby.

I can't believe the reviews that this hotel had on trip advisor. This hotel is excellent.

Upon first arrival it is down a few narrow back streets but we never had a problem and rarely seen anybody(even late at night) Check in is 3-8pm we got there at 7pm and was checked in very quickly with no problems. The room was huge and perfect for what we wanted. The hotel offers parking for 8 euro per night but the system was down so we got that for free. The parking lot is secure and safe. The door on the hotel room is a bit rubbish but it's definitely locked aslong as you give it a good pull. Didn't hear any noise from any other guests the whole time in the hotel.

At first we was put off by the hotel reviews but honestly they must of been expecting 5 star service because it is fine. We stayed 2 nights and did not have one problem.

Fantastic Apartment

We had an apartment that had both a king bed & a sofa bed, so it was bigger than we needed but was just like being at home. The kitchenette had everything we needed to cook on the stove top. Bathroom had a bath :-) Room was clean in arrival but not cleaned during our stay but this was expected. Staff were friendly & had good English. Only down side was it is a bit of a walk into the city centre but the tram is very handy. Would be happy to stay here again.

I would avoid at all costs

I booked a room with sofa bed and my confirmation email said so. Upon arrival, I was only given a room with one bed and I had to share bed with my brother. Hotel staff said they have NO ROOMS with sofa bed. I was called a LIAR by a very unprofessional front desk woman. She spoke French insults in front of me and although I spoke English with her, I understand French and it was extremely unprofessional.I complained to the manager and ask him to have her write me an apology letter - in English or French. No action was taken. Hotel is dirty. Shouldn't have any stars in my opinion - many stains on the carpet and cigarette butts on the window. My room was non smoking but it smelled like cigarettes. All staff is not trained how to deal with customers, except for the manager, they are extremely rude.

Serviced apartments in a convenient part (for my trip) of a beautiful town. The room was large, the bed was very comfortable, and the kitchenette was functional. Only about 50% of the light bulbs were working though. The room was vented straight outside due to poor maintenance, but the reverse cycle air conditioning was more powerful than the draught, so the room was able to be made warm, despite the entirely avoidable waste of electricity.

Location is probably the best thing about this place. It's only 4 tram stops away from the main Quiconces and not too hard to find.
Just be aware that weekend services aren't the greatest. As it's more like a self-service apartment than a hotel there is no one at the front desk after 7pm on Saturday and noon on Sundays so you can't leave your luggage there for the day to pick up later if you're flying out that night.
Also the reception staff seem to have 2-3 hour lunch breaks so if you get in about 12-3, you may have to come back later to check in (but before they close for the day as per the above times).

This place somewhat resembles a student hall of residence. The rooms have an unusually good amount of desk/eating space, and the front desk staff were young. My room was spacious, bright, comfortable, quiet, and, apart from some mold in the shower and some poorly washed cooking utensils, clean. It's about a twenty-minute walk along the river to downtown or a few minutes' tram ride. Though I have rented a better apartment for less money in Bordeaux, it still represents pretty good value for money.

This was the worst \"hotel\" experience I've had in my life. Hostels are awesome because you stay for cheap and you get what you pay for. This isn't advertised as such but is comparative to the crappier ones I have stayed in. With taxes we paid $150 for this room. It was FREEZING, smelled of cigarette smoke, and hadn't been cleaned i.e.: full trash cans, trash in the sink, dirty towels. A nightmare to arrive here after a day of driving to find we were too late to change rooms. Also the wifi didn't work so we couldn't even book elsewhere with our US phones not working in France. Maybe if the room is clean you'll have better luck but I'm leaving this review so this residence tightens their game. The only plus was the sheets were clean and the bed made. Also, the young blonde girl working the office was next level rude. Get it together.

It's not dirty it's just old!

Pretty average place. Perhaps a little too expensive for what it was. Also the washing machine was broken so that really put a damper on things - I'm traveling for a while and like to stay at places like this for practical reasons such as washing etc. they could also make sure dishes are clean and that the utensils provided are actually there. Pretty tricky to cook with what was provided.

We(2 adults 2 children) spent three nights with one day towels and one roll of toilet paper.when we ask change of towel, they said under 7 nights we have to pay extra and asked toilet paper, we should buy it ourselves... what a wonderful system for hotel. The hotel is about 10 mins walk from Tram station which is very convenient for public transport to and from city center. The room is furnished with kitchen and there is a supper market nearby that we can buy foods and cook for ourselves. The room is clean, quiet and comfortable.

Clean, comfortable room. Good location, quiet neighbourhood, tram stop close by, only two stops from town centre. Walking distance to the quay with good choice of cafes and restaurants. No reception staff at nighThet and no information of a contact in case of emergency. My card for opening my room door refused to work in the early hours. I was lucky to find another guest who arrived after the hotel reception had closed and he had collected a letter with an emergency telephone number. The hotel payphone was out of order throughout our five day stay. I would suggest to the hotel management that is essential to display a contact telephone for emergencies and preferably have a working telephone with free of charge number.

I saw several reviews complaining about the neighborhood, but honestly the neighborhood was great. The hotel is also very convenient to the Quai, and the convention center. There are a a lot of great restaurants in the area. The room itself was clean, though the view was lousy. But, this really is an \"Apartment Hotel\", no maid service and limited front desk hours, so be forewarned.

Fairly central but no frills

As Bordeaux is small, you needn't be at the exact heart of the city to be able to walk around. This one's a 25-min walk from the city centre but neighborhood is safe to walk to/fro late at night, alone, female. As far as the room, as long as you aren't expecting a 4-star hotel, you'll be fine. Picture a studio flat (kitchen, silverware, plates, fridge). I would recommend to backpackers or travelers looking for cheap and cheerful. Clean as well. Great shower pressure.

City Résidence-Fair cost, great for sight-seeing

The City Residence was a mid-grade hotel. It was a fair cost for what was offered. It is very close to the city center, and maybe 5 minutes from the city tram. Therefore, I found this a good stay if you are sight-seeing Bordeaux on a budget. The surrounding neighborhood looks a little sketchy, but I had no problems. The breakfast is simple but good. The staff are helpful, though the lobby hours are a little odd. I did like the kitchenette, making it possible to go grocery shopping and come back to cook, they even provided a variety of dishes and cooking utensils (though you will need supplies to wash them). Overall, I would recommend this to anyone traveling on a budget, and I would stay there again.

City Résidence - urine smell on the streets

The hotel desk is not open 24 hours and there is no maid service. It is near a metro stop, which is nice. However, the streets you have to walk down to get to it are creepy and dirty. There were feces on the street and a nauseating smell. I would not stay in this part of town again. The downtown area near the Grand Theater was fairly clean and well kept.

City Residence Bordeaux: Really okay place to stay

The hotel was fine, the room was clean. The area is good to get to town and to the river side during the day, but not that comfortable by night.

Also: there is no one at the reception during the evening, so they make you call a number to check in: expensive with a foreign phone. We could also not get out in the evening and had to climb over the gate. We did get back in.

Bug Bites and No Air conditioning... bad place to stay

The hotel states it has air-conditioning.. but they should clarify that as air-conditon that doesn't work... right there with the claim that they have parking for your car.. but you can't use it. (The gate to the lot apparently doesn't work). If your looking for cheap and being in Bordeaux... look harder. I heard there were better places to stay.

I complained about the air conditioning and kept getting promises it would be taken care of, but it never came to pass. They couldn't move us to a different room. We checked out two days earlier.

I got a ton of bug bites. The air never worked, which meant an open window with no screens. I had well over 20 bites on just one arm.

The desk is only staffed during certain limited hours. If you need something beyond those hours.,.. to bad. They charge you if you call them after hours and it is not an emergency.

NO PARKING -

I would not stay here again. I recommend that if you keep looking.
It was clean.
You have to clean up after yourself or they charge you 70 Euros at departure. They do not provide soap to clean up with or even garbage bags. We had to purchase those at the store.
They only give you one towel a week per person. You have to wash it if you want clean towels after a few days. They charge 7.50 Euros to wash a load (over $10 US dollars).

It was cheap and clean... but the lackof service and the airconditioning/bugs made it not worth it.

City Residence Hostel in Bordeaux

The hostel/appartment was wonderful. Good size room, all the necessary utensils, clean linen, clean towels, spotless bathroom. Close to supermarket and tram line into the city. Helpful assistants at reception.
