We stayed here while visiting for the Olympics and it just so happened to be the same hotel where the Men's and Women's Spanish National Soccer teams were staying! The hotel is beautiful and a close walk to the river trams, with plenty of dining/shopping options nearby.

This hotel was great, all staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was super clean and well maintained, and has a really nice aesthetic and design style. Great breakfast in the morning with tons of options. My only negative was the air conditioning in the room was a bit weak, even with the fan speed set on maximum, it didn’t cool the room quite to the level we would have wanted.

This property is somewhat on the outskirts of town where all of the action is. It is not too far of a walk to the rue of Notre Dame (10-15 minutes) but doesn’t feel the safest at night. The hotel appears to have spent all their money on making the lobby, bar and common areas look nice but the actual rooms are very old and have a strange smell. My room had no functioning air conditioning but since I got back late to my room, I did not have energy to pack up all my stuff and move to another room. This made the musky smell in the bathroom even worse. The water for showers is also not hot, it is lukewarm at best. The staff are not as helpful or friendly, but it could also be because I am a foreigner. For the price you pay for this hotel, it is not worth it. Even if it was discounted, I would not stay here. I would rather stay in a 3 star and below hotel with functioning air conditioners with modern thermostats (they have some kind of antiquated knob thing that makes no sense) and hot water (their sink water was hotter than shower water).

Great position to explore Bordeaux and the wine area.
Decent size room with very comfy bed. Good Wi-Fi.
Extensive range of food at breakfast.
Bottle of complimentary water in fridge had previously been open and drunk from but returned to fridge. Left bottle on side as obviously opened but returned to fridge by room attendant - disappointing.
Check in staff excellent check out staff spoke rapid French and no clue as to what was going on.
Bar ok but red wine served not great for such a prestigious wine region.
Would recommend - very quiet rooms.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights and were generally disappointed with our stay. The picture made it seem like a high quality l hotel, however upon closer inspection it was not up to our standards and was way overpriced. The bathroom was recently remodelled and incredibly spacious, however the design was awkward. The shower was so small that we couldn’t fit two people in it and I suspect anyone that is overweight would also struggle. The toilet was also at an odd height. I’m 5”6’ and my feet dangled, which was odd. Additionally, our A/C didn’t seem to work in our room meaning we had to open the windows to try and get some form of breeze. Unfortunately it also meant we woke up with a bunch of mosquito bites. On our last night We decided to stop by the bar on our last day to enjoy one last glass of wine before heading out. Sadly they only had enough for one glass so we ended up sharing.

On the other hand, we found the staff was incredibly nice and perfectly fluent in English. The bed was also quite comfy and everything was very clean. The hotel is about a 25 minutes walk from the city centre and close enough to the boardwalk that you can enjoy the sights on your way back. They also had a room to store luggage after check out which was a huge relief for us.

Overall the place has some real potential but needs a bit more love before it can be considered a four star.

The hotel is only a twenty minute walk to the main city and it was great to be away from the tourist hub, but still be within walking distance. The hotel staff that we encountered were all very helpful and attentive. The room was spacious and very clean, although a little dated. Given the price and the distance from the city, I would definitely recommend. Did not have breakfast at the hotel as we purchased outside whilst enjoying the city. Short distance to airport too!

The hotel is undergoing major renovation. I get that. However, I was not at all informed about it. I spent a few days in Bordeaux during a heatwave. Well, all three nights I had to use a ventilator; the AC was not working in the hotel. I mean....c’mon. All three nights? Seriously? The bathroom was recently remodeled and it looks great. However the rest of the room was not updated. Why?! Makes no sense. On checkout, I asked the hotel for a taxi. I was told that Bordeaux doesn’t have a substantial taxi fleet and one must be reserved. I mean really?! Bordeaux is not that small of a city! You’d think that the receptionist would call and attempt to help. No! Pas. Du.Tout. It’s going to be a long while before I return to France.

Room was freezing cold. No heater available or extra duvet. Not possible for the staff to turn off the AC and no rooms available where they were able to turn it off.
So I had to sleep with loads of clothes on, and still it was cold and drafty.

City break in a wonderful city.

The hotel was only a short 20 mins walk to the city and what a pleasant walk along the promenade. So much to see and worth the walk. The hotel is a little tired inside and the rooms although quite spacious need some modernisation. The Reception staff were just polite enough and we both separately commented on this.

Fair hotel. Not as incredible as previous Mercure stays (such as Ternes in Paris). A bit overpriced for the location (this is not particularly close to any tram station - 10 min walk at least). Room generally clean and roomy (for France). Wifi is horrible - outgoing data is basically nil, making it impossible to Skype/Facetime with loved ones at home, or even send emails with attachments greater than 500kb !!

First night at the hotel I was greeted with what was a horrible odor on the room. I thought it was sewer gas. It was not. I finally figured out that it was coming from the ventilation ducts. I shut the air conditioner off and slept with the windows open. I told the staff about this and it was fixed immediately. There was no smell after this. They did not seem to be a bit surprised about this smell coming from the vents, which means it is a common occurrence.
Every morning I was awakened by the city trash collection of the hotels garbage. It was extremely noisy, including the sounds of trash being dumped, hydraulic lifts operating, workmen yelling and screaming, etc.
I was staying in the old section, which is right above where the garbage is collected. This would explain the smell in the room, etc. I would recommend you ask not to stay in the old section/wing of this hotel.

Great hotel. wasn't extremely close to anything, but a little walk gets you to where you can get food, shopping, etc. Nice room, comfortable bed.

Exceptional hotel service. I had a packaged that was delivered a few days after my stay and the staff have taken care of getting it to me instead of refusing the package like many other hotels have.

only complaint is no 24hr restaurant.

Out dated, dirty and had bugs in the room

First, the good. The rooms were fairly large, the parking was easy and seemed very secure and the lobby is huge and interestingly decorated. The staff was very very helpful and friendly. The resteraunt was pretty good and certainly the best part of our stay.

The biggest problem was that out bed had bugs in it. I don't think they were bedbugs but it was gross anyway. We told the front desk and they promptly got us another room but we really couldn't get comfortable after that. we couldnt really sleep and ended up bolting out of there early am and driving to the b&b that were staying in. The room was very outdated, and didn't seem clean but that could have just been because the stuff was so old (carpet had stains and worn spots etc.) one last thing, the pillows were really crappy and thin.

We have stayed at Marcure hotels before and have not had any trouble. This was probably just an anomaly and they did respond quickly but we were too grossed out to sleep. I wil never stay there again and should have insisted on getting money back.

Our visit was to visit family. We were all booked into this hotel. Everything was lovely and clean, just one thing on the negative; when we arrived we were just given room keys and no instructions on where are room were or how to use the lift. The breakfast was over priced as well.

Our room was very nice: newly renovated and the bed was very comfortable. It is not in the centre of town but it is a very nice walk along the water to get to the centre. There is secure underground parking. There is a nice bakery a few minute's walk down the street.

Sorry we booked it as we had thought it closer to town. €17 taxi to town. Room was dated, no room at side of bed to get in and nowhere to relax. Breakfast ran out twice in 4 days and none of the cooked food was not.

Far away hotel, not 4 stars

This hotel was far from the center of Bordeaux, despite advertising otherwise. It was about 2 km from any areas of interest, and while the front of the hotel was decent looking, the rest of the neighborhood was not exciting, though didn't turn out to be unsafe. But getting to the center for all of the tourist activities was a hassle. This was also not a 4 star hotel, even with a stretch. The rooms were very outdated, with the bathroom being the most outdated, though clean and functioning. Overall, although the hotel wasn't terrible, it was not what we were expecting based on the category (4 star), advertisement (close to center, etc.), and I would not stay there again or recommend it to friends.

Overall hotel condition was disappointing. Dreary atmousphere. No towels in room and desk clerk (who was quite helpful) delivered them suggesting understaffing. Small room and small bath. Thin pillows. Food from hotel restauarnt is definitely to be missed. Two star hotel at best. Worst part of our Bordeaux visit.

Basic hotel, clean rooms but smells like an aged care facility in the hallways. Front desk staff very helpful. Bar staff friendly. Restaurant staff good too but food nothing special. Great bread shop just down the corner. Easy access to trams but also walkable distance to town square. Parking on site.

terrible, horrible, no good, very bad smell

the hotel has a TERRIBLE odor on the entire second floor. after the first night i was moved to a seperate room and the smellwas jua as bad. the hallways smell disgusting and the rooms were only slightly better.

it seemed as though the staff knew aout the smell and when i demanded a refund on my stay the didnt argue much.

i would in no way recommend this hotel to anyone.

We arrived to check in and were told that due to renovations no rooms were available. The Mercure booked us at another hotel which was okay but not in a good location. They were very nice; paid for a drink and taxi to other hotel but we had already paid 51 euros for the taxi to get to the Mercure. After the plane trip from the US this was not a welcome development. We do not know why they did not notify Orbitz or us diectly.

I would not stay at this hotel again. The service was bad and so was the area of town. The room didn't even have a corkscrew in it (remember, it's in Bordeaux France!) and it took 3 times for them to provide me with a room that had a King Bed - which is what a booked. Also, every time you wanted to hook up to the wireless internet, you needed to provide your user name and password. My taxi to the airport cost me 55,00 Euros!

A bit out of the way location wise, but with large quiet rooms. Hotel staff were very friendly. Wifi was spotty at times, but overall worked fine. My room had a shower and bathtub, and hotpot with several tea choices- always nice to see. Would definitely recommend to others.

We were expecting something that was more like an actual Chateau - It was OK, but frankly, not what we expected from the name. It's also not a 4-5 star hotel, more like a 3-4. The brakfast was OK, but pricey.

Stayed at this hotel at the beginning of April. It's a fair walk to the city's main attractions, and because of construction near the hotel, and probably because of its location generally, the neighbourhood isn't great. Also, we found those at the desk willing to answer questions for us, but really less helpful than all of the other hotels we stayed at (a total of about 7) during our vacation. On the good side, breakfast was very good, as was the room and the hotel itself.

Good value, rooms are spacious but a big far from the center. Toilet has his and her basins and a large counter top to put things on. LCD TV in room and free Wifi.
Bed is comfortable and plenty of space in the room to put down luggage.
The only thing in the hotel is the elevators are a bit old but works fine.
If you walk it takes half an hour to the main city center. There is a tram available walking distance of about 10 minutes.

Great deal on weekend stay breakfast included.
Hotel is a good 15 min walk to centre of bordeaux but the scenic walk along the river side is worth the walk and if you're feeling lazy you can take the tram which comes every few minutes.
Ate in the restaurant one evening food was lovely and staff very helpful offering an english menu although i would have liked to try to read the french.
Would thouroughly recommend this hotel.

When you get out of the Airport take the 1 Bus, it will take you into the centre of Bordeaux. Then get a taxi, you can figure out the trams afterwards.

The hotel is a bit out but pretty good - staff are very helpful, friendly, speak English lots better than my ropey French and the food in the restaurant is good. The Formula is very good value for 3 courses but the mains only have 2 options neither of which appealed the two nights we eat in. Bottle of Bordeaux was very good value. Never had breakfast.

Tram is 10 mins walk from the hotel - head towards the river, the hotel has maps - and a couple/few stops to the centre. Depending on what you are doing, the one day, all day ticket is good value and the service is every 7/10 minutes.

Would stay there again. If you want to do any of the wine trips, book with Bordeaux Tourism in advance, we wanted to go but the trip(s) were booked up.

Simple straight forward Good Hotel.

The hotel was well located and was good value for money. Two tram stops from center. There is also a bike stand outside the front door which I highly recommend. Parking is not free but this can be negotiated!

The room was very small though and a bit tight for two people. There is nothing to do in the hotel once you are back say between exploring Bordeaux and heading out for dinner!

A hidden gem in Chartrons!

Finding this place was a little dicey... maybe because we were challenged in French and we could have gotten better directions getting to this hotel. The location of this hotel is unassuming since it;s tucked deep into a residential area. We didn't really hang-out in the hotel as much since we were in Bordeaux to explore the wineries but the hotel was very clean and the room wa stayed was very comfortable. We didn't get a chance to eat at the restaurant downstairs but it looked like a lovely place to have a brunch. best hotel

I enjoyed our stay at this hotel the most. The beds were so comfortable, the bathroom huge, instant coffee and tea in the room. The hotel restaurant had some of the best food we enjoyed on our entire France trip. The hotel was a little trek from the city center but the walk to the tram was easy enough to get to and maneuver.

Mercure Chartrons - not bad

We stayed here for 4 nights, front desk staff spoke English and were helpful. Room size was bigger compared to European standards, King bed was 2 doubles put together and the one side was much harder than the other, room was fairly clean and nicely appointed. We had a non-smoking room but we could smell smoke as we walked down the hallway. The location was not the greatest, fairly far from the city center but you could walk it in about 20-30minutes. We had breakfast included and it was fine, internet was free you just had to ask for code from the font desk, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't! Not a bad place to stay for the price.

An excellent hotel, just a little out of the centre of Bordeaux

The location isn't as central as I thought it might be but a short walk and you can catch a very convenient tram. So all in, quite good. The food and service was excellent and the HUGE space of the foyer and even the rooms were excellent!
Very clean and curtious staff too.

Mercure Chateau Chartrons

The hotel is reasonably close to the tourist attractions in Bordeaux city, but not really close enough to walk instead of drive. The facilities and decor of the hotel are a little outdated- tons of gold accents, red velvet, mirrored glass, and dark wood. We parked in the underground parking garage beneath the hotel, and were surprised to find that there wasn't an elevator from the garage to the hotel (kind of a pain when you have luggage). The hotel comes with free wifi (ask for access code at front desk) and will lend you an adaptor if you forgot or if yours broke.

The hotel was located off the beaten path, but easily walkable to the city center or water. The hallways were musty and needed updating. The rooms were small, but clean; providing us with everything we needed while there. The biggest issue was being charged extra taxes upon departure when the beauty of booking on hotels.com is that all charges are paid prior to your arrival. The charges were nominal and hotels.com actually took care of it; however this is the first time I have ever had a hotel charge more.

Convenient for City Centre

The Mercure Chartron was conveniently located to the city centre wih easy access by bus & bike. The hotel offered good facilities and secure parking, and was very comfortable. Would recomemnd as a city break or as a base for touring the wine region.

A good value in Bordeaux,FR

The Photo representation is accurate.This is a very nice,clean,comfortable place to stay,especially if you have a car.There is secure parking and it is easy to drive out of the city to explore the Medoc and St.Emillion.It is somewhat far from the Historic Centre,but accessible by Tram-there is a stop 4 blocks away and it is in a safe neighborhood.The breakfast buffet is very good-lots of choices. We did not eat dinner there,but the menu looked good if you needed to stay at the hotel.The staff was very helpful-English well spoken.The room was large by foreign standards w/modern amenities and a comfortable bed.Seems popular w/tour groups,so beware if you are bothered by that sort of thing.

A fun trip to Bordeaux

The hotel was very nice, with clean, large rooms. The staff was very pleasant and most spoke very good English. The food was good and we had a pleasant time.

A nice hotel but be prepared for lots of walking!

Hotel was more than acceptable and the service from the staff was great - everyone spoke good English and they resolved a problem that we spotted with the toilet in our room within minutes. The location was a slight problem as we were at least 20 minutes walk away from the more popular areas that we found ourselves in most days and evenings (parlement place, comedie place etc). There were tram stops fairly nearby and the Chartrons quay area just around the corner had some nice cafes and restaurants.

Just out of town centre, but quiet as a result. Easy walk to excellent tram routes

Looking a bit tired, but clean and staff very helpful. Superb buffet breakfast in the garden. Ate out the rest of our meals, or with friends. Our bed was Gigantic, and very comfortable.
