We had a good stay at formby hall and spa, we stayed for 3 nights in the superior room which was lovey on the round floor which i asked for so that was great. We had to pay £150 up front for the billing at the end of the stay and Another £100 for the spa treatments, golf and evening meal which that wasn't explained at the time of booking.
The room was lovey and clean,nice big bed comfortable enough, tea, coffee and milk , everything you need to have a comfortable stay, bathroom need some attention as in the grouting and the shelve needs repairing, nice fluffy towels .
Breakfast was nice, good choice of fryup or continental breakfast plenty to choose from but a bit on the cool side need a microwave, breakfast staff was very nice and helpful nothing was to much trouble.
Evening meal on our first dinner ordered a margarita pizza and got a pepperoni one and ordered a beef burger and got a cheese burger, asked for can of coke and got a glass of coke after i ask for a can then told they didn’t have any. Second night was a lot better i had steak it was delicious.
There was no entertainment of a evening so it was very quiet and the surrounding area not a lot to do unless to have a drive out.
Spa was great nice a clean and competitive pricing, staff was lovely very friendly. Over all had a lovely stay but wouldn't go back as it was too expensive and nothng to do at night.

The room was spacious, light and spotlessly clean. The bathroom sparkled and the Dove toiletries lovely. There was a coffee maker, kettle and decent hairdryer.

Staff and food great!
But the room should be warm when you arrive and I've stayed twice (and will return) and each time the room has been Baltic, colder than the corridor, and given the lovely proportions of the rooms, it's a good 2-3 before they warm up.
Like I said, I do really like the place and I will be back, just a couple of niggles preventing that 5* review - the other being that they are the only hotel in the world that doesn't accept Amex but that's only a minor inconvenience to me.

The Reception staff whilst cooperative were not exactly present, felt quite awkward upon arrival. Room was well maintained, but not spotless and the decor felt modern. We had a maid walk in on us but brushed that off as a they immediately apologised. The bathroom was very basic. The hotel restaurant was fantastic and the staff extremely pleasant and chatty. Breakfast was as good as you can get, the dinner food was pretty nice too. The Spa and Pool facilities looked a little tired and due an upgrade. I might sound picky here but I’m just being honest with what I saw and maybe I just expected a little more in terms of cleanliness and condition of the hotel, as it’s one of the better looking when advertised.

Rooms are lovely and although I wanted to use the leisure facilities I just felt too tired from my travels but they are great too.

Meals and breakfast are very nice.

Receptionist on check in was great but service can be slow and I had to chase people to get things done. Sort the service out and this would be excellent.

Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. There was water in the mini fridge and a Nespresso machine for coffee. I would highly recommend the Housekeeping Team, they do an amazing job.
We have been staying at Formby Hall for 20 years or so and the one thing that has let it down has been the food quality and breakfast service, so this stay we were very pleased to see the improvements made to the whole breakfast experience.
There was fresh fruit, excellent pastries, good quality bread for toasting. I didn't try the cooked option but we could see other guests enjoying it. The waiting staff were very polite and tried to provide quick service. This morning the hotel was full and breakfast crowded which meant we had to wait a long time for our pots of tea. However, this is a vast improvement on previous stays when you had to get your own tea /coffee from a very cheap machine.
All the staff were well dressed and all had a smile.
We are looking forward to our next stay.

Rooms were big and spacious clean just needed a bit of tlc we stayed in room 103 and the ceiling tile was in need of replacing as it had water damage and was exposed noticeably,the patio curtains was smeard with makeup? And the shower leaked water due to poor design fault. We went to the spa area and again this too could do with a refurb in the ceiling area as it was hanging down in certain places. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

A once amazing hotel is now tired and dated. (Regulars tell us it's because it changed hands). We loved the size of the Junior Suite, and the outside tables overlooking the Greens, but the lounge furniture was old and dirty. The bed was clean (No. 1 priority) but I literally sank into the gap in the middle. Bathroom was clean and had a walk-in shower. Loved the complimentary items in the fridge, but a small snack offering would be nice (just a couple of bags of crisps/nuts for example). We used the pool/sauna/whirlpool - and enjoyed it - but again, it's all a bit tired. Staff on reception and in Spa were all lovely. Breakfast was disappointing, no fried eggs, strange mushrooms, coffee machine not working, no English Breakfast tea, was really messy around the tea and coffee area. Just needed a wipe but everyone seemed oblivious. Would I go back? Probably not.

We stayed in the Attic room and was woken up to seagulls squawkin and walking about on the roof, Unfortunately this was very loud and started about 5.10am as soon as daylight started and happened about every 20mins til we went to breakfast at 9am so couldn't get back to sleep.

Cleanliness was very poor. Dirty cups, dirty kettle with water in, water in irons, dirty toilet and vanity chair. There was something left under bed by a previous guest. Bed linen was torn and marked. The first room I was given was terrible and had lots of dead flies on the windowsill. The furniture looked like it needed to go in a skip. I was swapped to a different room but still lots of cleanliness issues. I asked if I cancelled can I get a refund but they said I would have to arrange with 3rd party provider (you) I was worried I would lose money so I very reluctantly stayed in a dirty room. Hairdryer didn’t work, some of the plug sockets didn’t work. Wardrobe door needed maintenance.

Really nice stay. Used the spa facilities for 2 hours. Very relaxing and clean.

Room was lovely - we upgraded to the loft rooms. Very spacious and had a separate bath and shower. Even a television in bathroom so could watch whilst having a bath.

Bed was very comfy.

Also went down to have dinner at the restaurant. Food was absolutely delicious. Had breakfast buffet in the morning which was nice as well. Overall a very relaxing stay and looking forward to staying again.

Lovely, relaxing stay! Lovely, large room, great to have a fridge & view of the golf course! Lounge & bar area lovely, really comfy seats and everywhere nice and clean! Enjoyed the afternoon tea & bar food in the evening - highly recommend the dirty bacon fries, they were divine!
Pool facilities great, well maintained! Steam room was best I've ever tried! Pool was too cold for us though! Movable shower head would be better but nice to have a bath & a separate shower though! Rooms have lots of nice touches like huge mirrors, a proper wardrobe & lots of storage space!
Very impressed!
Breakfast was perfectly adequate too, only complaint was lack of proper orange juice! It was watery and more like orange squash!

The room was very clean and spacious (304) and as I am disabled was within walking distance of the restaurants and bar. The bathroom was lovely, it even had a tv built in!

The people working there made our experience absolutely wonderful, especially, tall Phil, small Phiĺ, Chloe and Rachel who gave us lots to smile about with the warmest of welcomes, the staff were so friendly and accommodating, by far the best place we have ever stayed at in terms of staff. I understand the hotel has recently being taken over and look forward to visiting again to see the exciting improvements the new owners make. The only thing I hope they dont change too much are the people working there, from our experience, they are a credit to the company. We have stayed at lots of 4 and 5 star golf and spa hotels, yes I am a golf widow! This is definitely one to return to. The only suggestion would be to improve the changing area for the pool, being disabled, there was only one tiny general changing room which was constantly in use, there could be a designated disabled changing room for those of us who have extra support needs and have to take some time to change. Other than that, a great experience. Thank you x

We have stayed at Formby Hall for the last 15 years and have always been happy and left positive feedback. Unfortunately, our last 2 night stay was dreadful. The room was incredibly dark, it was impossible to read a book, it was difficult to get dressed, put on make up etc. I made reception aware of the problem and asked for an extra light. We also asked for a couple of clean glasses as the ones in the room were filthy and obviously had not been changed from the previous guests.
On returning from our day out nothing had been done and our room was a mess. A piece of paper had also been pushed partly under the door asking my husband and I not to smoke in the room. We have NEVER EVER smoked, and i found this highly insulting. We could not wait to leave. This is a disgusting way to treat long standing regular customers.

Big let down - but spa treatment pretty good

Booked a suite for my birthday and hoped for a great experience with the best room they had and was so let down! TV didnt work (bed view one), the light up “fireplace” didnt do anything at all, bed mattress kept sliding down bed making annoying sleep.

Hoped they’d redeem with the full day spa and afternoon tea - but stale dry sandwiches (expected some kind of effort for price). Have to say though the breakfast was pretty decent and the actual massages me and my girlfriend had very good - regret booking the room and should maybe have just got massage without all the bells and whistles because it wasn’t great. To consider driving home to sleep and go back next day for treatment after booking best room doesn’t set a good tome.

We always come to formby hall as a couple for that little break however this time we brought the kids along. We done the Halloween party and then some time in the pool followed by a nice chill in the room. The fairway grill were unable to give us a reservation on restaurant as it was fully booked so we opted for room service from the lounge and patio menu.
Shame about being unable to be seated in restaurant area other than that nice overall experience. Room was perfect too.

Loved our stay. Restaurant staff were lovely and so helpful with our elderly and disabled family members, nothing was too much trouble. Disabled room perfect, as was ours. I made use of the swimming pool which was great, spa pool not set to come on regularly though so never got the bubbles. All staff said hello when passing.

We booked 2 suites, based on the photos they provide, particularly the fire place in the bedroom and the views from the room. The rooms were in the attic and half the space was just crawl space. Our room had a tiny window and was completely dark There was no fire place in either suite. We tried to speak to the manager, but he never showed up after requesting to see him 3 times. There was someone else’s hair tie on the floor. The Receptionist advised that not all rooms they show pictures of on Expedia are the same as the one they post and that this was customary in the industry. In fact she stated that only Room 14 actually had a fire place and that it was not available and then she stated that it didn’t work anyway! We would not stay there again.

The room we had was large for two adults and two kids. It was well equipped.
It was to have the pool on site for the lords and it was nice and had a good set of facilities (spa, sauna, steam room).
Overall stay was very pleasant and enjoyable.
Lounge food menu was convenient but could be better.
Breakfast was excellent - lots of variety in the buffet to suit everyone.

Beautiful setting and location with an upgrade to a beautiful loft room after a bumpy check in (as couldn’t find my Expedia confirmation).
Staff were very friendly and efficient throughout and food and service in the restaurant was excellent.
Two prom events made for an unexpected noisy evening, but all finished by 11pm.
Gym and pool fabulous.
A few minor bits of maintenance needed in a few areas.
Overall, had a fantastic and restful one night break and would definitely visit again (but on a quieter night next time).

Great hotel with lovely room

The hotel was beautiful! Plus we got upgraded to a loft apartment which was absolutely out of this world! Huge! Very modern and made you feel very special. Even the bathroom had a tv by the bath! Reception staff were lovely.

Only downside to the hotel was the healthclub. Jacuzzi was out of service, sauna wasnt very hot and the showers were not very hot. But as its free with your room you cant really complain!

Breakfast was ok but felt quite limited food. We were not offered any veggie (but we also didnt ask) and just seemed not alot of option.

Bit all in all a very nice hotel, beautiful room and staff were very friendly!

My first stay here was very underwhelming.

For what should be an “on-point” destination hotel it was just disappointing.

Staff all the way from check-in through to checkout were just miserable and seemed to take no pleasure in doing anything.

Restaurant and bar staff alike, couldn’t even force a smile. Food was okay. Cleanliness of tables was poor and just like the management of the hotel - lacking.

This should be a great hotel but it’s just mediocre and that is down to one thing and one thing only. Poor management.

The terrace room was lovely, great views onto the golf course, lots of space and a very very comfortable bed.
Unfortunately, the corridor smelt of smoke and was very noisy at night with guests coming back at all times during the evening.
In the spa area - the pool was freezing and the steam room smelt terrible.
Breakfast was average.
But other than that it was nice.
The driving range was fun

Scuffed paintwork, evidence of where there had been water leaks not fixed and painted over very well. Chipped Furniture. The bed was not comfy and the pillows were very flat, could have done with a better pillow selection. One of the features of this room was a tv in the bath, however the remote was nowhere to be found, so we were unable to use this. Food was nice but overpriced for the evening meal. Buffet breakfast was ok, but not cooked to a very high standard. Spa was ok, but jacuzzi was not working.

Rooms very good, notice instant coffee as opposed to coffee bags last year, ate in bar and food very good. Only criticism is ful english could be better ingredients, sausages not great, it wont stop me staying next year but i will trya different breakfast!

What a gem!

What a gem!
We booked in for afternoon tea which was great and then had a drink in the bar. We also used the leisure facilities which were superb.
The room was absolutely huge and the bed was incredibly comfortable.
The breakfast was plentiful and fresh.
The staff really were the highlight of the visit, they were incredibly welcoming and genuinely couldn’t do enough for us.
Can’t wait to go back again!

Lovely place, but needs to be more organised.

Fab place to stay, beautiful surroundings, with lovely Leisure facilities.

The only issue I had with my stay is that when we arrived we was put into the wrong room, which was not the superior one I had booked. It was downgraded from that. however Luckily enough I had noticed and mentioned it to the staff on the desk..
once we was moved there was another issue which there was no bottle of fizz in the room, i mentioned this to reception, they said they would sort it, i was still waiting and after the 3rd time of asking it was then sorted as I had to keep asking! I shouldn’t of had to mentioned it several times for them to sort it. When you pay a price for something you expect everything to be correct.
